UFC Quick Pic: Joe Rogan will not deviate from his septum on July 11
Considering Rogan's on-air role and commentating duties it seems like a risky move to have septoplasty less than two weeks out from one of the biggest shows in UFC history...

Check out his Twitter page for more pics.

Good luck Joe.
I have a couple of friends who have had it done and it is not a nice procedure at all and I hope it all goes well for him. It can take ages to heal and is REALLY uncomfortable to say the least.

Ye I have had this done myself and it is really not nice. I had huge splints up my nose which completely blocked any air from going up there which meant a lot of sleepless nights for me. Good luck Joe.

nah… it’s not such a bad thing… I had it done in February and they let you get back to working out after a week (lifting and cardio). My doctor said I could start sparring again after two weeks, but my nose was still sensitive so I waited a month. The only thing that sucks is you can’t blow your nose for at least a week and you’ve got so much dried blood all up in there… it gets REALLY nasty.

Sounds like you had a dream op. Not everyone is as lucky though.

It’ll be a lot quicker to google it and spend 30 seconds reading it than waiting here for a response. Just a quick piece of advice.

Septoplasty is a corrective surgical procedure done to straighten the nasal septum, the partition between the two nasal cavities. Ideally, the septum should run down the center of the nose. When it deviates into one of the cavities, it narrows that cavity and impedes airflow. Often the inferior turbinate on the opposite side enlarges, which is termed compensatory hypertrophy. Nasal obstructions caused by serious deviations frequently lead to chronic sinus problems.
I’d never heard of it either.

Straightens the little divider that separates your nostrils.

Its from blowing too many random powders up your nose. Well, that’s not the only way, but……

With Rogan he was probably just shoving shrooms up there.

I broke my nose playing rugby and it the bone set crooked and I couldn’t breathe through one side so I had to have it straightened

Luckily for me I didn’t have to Google it, the response was there already. Phew, I saved 30 seconds of my time.

Geezus Adam T, have you seen the movie Wall-E where the humans dont talk but do everything through their little tv’s. Dont knock the man for asking a question here, at least we are kinda discussing between folk so a suggestion of almost STFU and google it are uncalled for.

Without all the Doctor speak, it is like fixing a broken nose (on a guy). But on a woman it’s a whole other thing. I knew this woman who had it done and said it was to help with her breathing because something was blocking her nasal passages (but after further review, it was actually a “nose job”. Just one way of getting your medical coverage to caover it by calling it a deviated septum.

yeah, i wasn’t allowed to resume training for 6 months. it’s brutal. mine was a long recovery.

Anyone know how he did it? Just rolling?
How does one even deviate a septum? Breaking your nose really bad? Not accusing anyone of doing anything but I heard this is a pretty common “injury” (not really sure what the appropriate word would be in this case) for coke-heads since they mess up their nasal passages really bad with the snorting and what not.
by WB on Jul 1, 2009 11:19 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
ya wb its definantly common in cokeheads and methheads who have broken down their nasal cavities over years and years and years of abuse…thats what this dude i know had his surgery for

personally i think when dan henderson retires he should take rogan’s place as commentator…when henderson talks its like charisma on meth…that dude is so hype and really gets the audience’s attention and brings them into the action and makes them feel as if they are actually in the cage with the fighters..
actually if rogan is struggling during 100 then dan could come to the announcers booth and relieve him after his bisping fight to call the 2 title fights…cause man…that dan would certianly be able to draw the fans into the brock/mir fight and give it the build up and in fight commentating that it deserves..
dan and robbie lawler together should start doing espn live

Coke doesn’t cause a deviated septum, instead it’ll cause a perforation (hole) in your septum.
I’d venture to guess its from rolling. An inadvertent knee, etc can easily cause the damage.
I had the same surgery back in Dec…took an inadvertent knee during a scramble that resulted in a slightly broken nose (read: still looks straight) but a severely deviated septum. My septum was 80% deviated which translates into me having 60% max breathing capacity through my nose (and that assuming no allergies, etc). So…after a year of dealing with breathing problems & sinus infections I had the surgery to correct the deviation this past Dec. I started lifting weights after a week, and went back to training 100% after a month, but my nose was still sensitive for at least 2 months.

I read this late, so perforation isn’t deviated??
I’m not sure
Would suck either way
by phenomenal angel on Jul 1, 2009 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yea I had that same surgery and it was one of the worst procedures of my life. A constant stuffy nose full of blood and mucus. I couldn’t smell or taste for nearly 3 weeks.

I like yayo from time to time, especially at clubs hypes me up and music just tingles, plus no shitty feeling next day, smells awesome true.
But what did joe do? Grappling
And yea coke can cause deviated septum but ur talking about taking in massive ammounts, and crappy coke cut down to chemicals almost only
