Even if he prepares just 14%, Alves is gonna get finished, especially in the championship rounds, unless he clips GSP.

Greg Jackson is an amazing dude. So humble and it’s genuine. He gives himself too little credit.
“find their comfort zone. then avoid it, nullify it, or destroy it” that’s brilliant. I know it sounds simple but most great things are.
Anyway, I’m now part owner in a movie production company here in Albuquerque and I want to join that and my love for MMA in some way. I don’t know if a documentary on one of the fighters would be best or what, but I need to do something that will actually make money for my partner. I pretty much bought in to help him take advantage of some untapped commercial real esate that the company owns so I know nothing about the actual movie production side of the business. Ideas?

The only documentaries I’ve seen on fighters are pre fight documentaries and I’m sure UFC/Spike have that all worked out. I wonder who I cold market a GSP documentary to. I spoke to my partner and he said we’d want to have a customer lined up with a negotiated price prior to filming.
If I do a GSP documentary, I suppose I shouldn’t confess my undying love for him until the end, right?

For GSP- You’d make an absolute killing on it in Canada. No question. I’d do pre-fight, fight and post fight storyline if possible. I think that would be the most marketable. Stateside- you may wanna think about doing a multi-fighter doc. May several fighters from the same camp fighting for the same event or around the same time.

yeah, I wasn’t thinking about the Candadian market, but he’s big enough up there that people might actually buy a DVD if it had the right content.

I live in Canada and am waiting for this now. I think you could sell a butt load of them here. Especially in Quebec.

I suppose a lot of it has been done already. Before the BJ fight, you saw GSP with his family and they were commenting on his progression as a fighter. I just wonder if the documentary style would offer enough additonal content that people would really want to see. I’m going to talk over options with my partner.

It would be pretty funny to que up the drmatic music for some of our intense arguments.
Maybe a scene where John’s fingers cramp and someone has to give him a moving speech that encourages him to keep typing. Then “You’re the best around” karte kid music starts and John types out a 20,000 word rant that makes us all believe that Forrest Sucks and Shogun is the best.
It could work, lol

Hey Punch
The number one rule is, don’t use your own money. Like that one guy said, you have a detailed idea and you pitch it. Get your funding and its game time. In terms of MMA Docs, it’s an untapped market that is ready to pop. Just in case you haven’t heard, there is a Jon Fitch documentary coming out later this year called “Such Great Heights”. It follows Fitch and some of the AKA boys leading up to his fight against GSP at UFC 87. Apart form that I haven’t heard of any other docs in the works.
I’ve pitched a few doc ideas to a few production companies up here in Toronto, but no luck so far, but I’ve thought about doing something with mma.
Anyway, good luck man.

GSP is the epitomy of an MMA fighter.
Off all the MMA fighters i think most people would want to be like him!

Can’t wait for this fight! I’ll make the same call that I did with GSP vs BJ; GSP by TKO in the 4th. I hope it goes this way and I think it will unless Alves gets a KO.
by SilasM on Jun 29, 2009 8:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree Silas. GSP like alway will keep pushing the fight and forcing action making Alves work for everything soon as GSP feels Alves is getting a little bit slower(round four prediction) he will push even harder causing Alves to make critical mistake that he will take advantage of. I think Alves only chance is taking out GSP in round three or earlier I can’t see GSP losing rounds three to five once he get’s a feel for his opponent.

i made the same call in the GSP vs BJ fight n bet on it. thought i lost it until BJ quit in between rounds. i see it the same way in this fight. GSP via tko in the 4th(but he might be able to pull off a sub earlier in the fight, 2nd round i’m thinkin)

One question Greg, how important is it to practice guard passing while greased up? or posturing out of a rubber guard while greased up? or greasing your legs to stuff takedowns? Do you always have your guys bath in oil the night before of fight? Ok more than one question…LOL!!!!

Geeeezzzzzz!!! Don’t get personal and take it so hard guys. It must be hard to hear the truth huh? How come you bone heads always have to take talk about NUTS or the private parts of a male. Is it that sore to know that the camp thats been on top is about to start slipping LOL! Don’t be so hurt when the jackson camp ends up like MFS. GSP loses and the jackson camp loses GSP mark my words.

UFC 100 is gonna be AWESONE!! I love watching GSP fight. How can you not he’s a beast . Alves is gonna get worked.

Alves is going to shock all of you. It’s going to be a dark time for Jackson’s camp.
by izx on Jun 29, 2009 11:29 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Who knows izx, maybe you are right, but I doubt it. Alves is a monster, but will need the KO to win. If he doesn’t get it in rds 1,2 or 3 it’s going to be a long night for your boy.
by SilasM on Jun 30, 2009 9:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
IF Alves makes weight. Remember he can’t even weigh 171 in a title fight. It wouldn’t really shock anyone. I think it is a 70% chance that GSP wins, so I wouldn’t be shocked if the other 30% came through on this one.
by jay on Jun 30, 2009 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’ve been saying that for a while. I think the last time he made 170 was his first fight in the UFC. I wonder if that’s why UFC 100 is a triple header (Other than them wanting to do it up for UFC 100). If Alves doesn’t make weight…Do they cancel the fight? At least it isn’t like last time with Hughes where they were the only main event.
by Shadyone33 on Jun 30, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
“If” GSP takes this fight, it’s going to be huge. It will be pretty damn close to Anderson Silva status. Who else is he going to fight?
Alves is about brute strength and lacks dimension. I bet GSP is going to stay outside and be selective about his attack and how he attacks. GSP has the stamina and the planning to pull this off. Going into the late rounds, Alves will probably tire and slow.
by DubNub on Jun 30, 2009 12:22 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Can’t wait for this fight!! Alves is a beast and if Georges can win, it will just add to his legacy. Should be one of the best fights of the year. Sounds like Jackson and Company have a game plan. Up to Georges to execute.

Thiago is going to be on his back early and often. It should shape up as another guard passing and G n P clinic.

Georges’ right elbow looks swollen although he didn’t seem to be favoring it.

the only way for alves to win is pulling a Serra on him..
by MMA040 on Jun 30, 2009 9:57 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
greg is hands down the top trainer in the world. the guy is humble and is great at executing game plans. alves will have to be careful throwing leg kicks in this fight…gsp will take him down at will. the only way i see alves winning is on the feet. gsp by tko.
by lefthook187 on Jun 30, 2009 10:15 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think GSP should bum rush Alves right at the bell. Alves always takes a while to warm up and get in the groove. Why wait till his game is on and he’s comfortable and dangerous?
by Mad A on Jun 30, 2009 1:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
alves has very visious knees, as greg did point out so they are aware. i think he may be looking for a knee when gsp tries to shoot so i see gsp maybe looking for the takedown in the clinch but thiago is badass in the clinch also so i dunno, i can see george being quick enough and smart enough to be able to shoot, i dunno what do yall think
