Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida bout from June 20 TUF Finale added to 'Ultimate 100' vote

With UFC 100 less than two weeks away, Spike TV is presenting a five-part special, highlighting the 100 greatest UFC fights in history, as voted on by the fans.

Voting is currently underway over at Spike.com (Ultimate100.spike.com) or by clicking here. Fans can choose their top 100 fights from an extensive list of bouts selected by the UFC and Spike TV.

The three round war between Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida from the June 20 Ultimate Fighter Finale has now been added to the ballots for consideration, and color me subjective but I have to believe a spot exists in the top 100 for that slugfest.

Each episode of "UFC’s Ultimate 100: Greatest Fights" will count down the top 100 with clips and highlights from each contest. The first one-hour installment (Part 1) will premiere Sunday, July 5 at 9:00pm ET.

The next four episodes will air:

Monday, July 6 at 9:00pm ET (Part 2)
Tuesday, July 7 at 9:00pm ET (Part 3)
Wednesday, July 8 at 9:00pm ET (Part 4)
Saturday, July 11 at 9:00pm ET (Part 5)

Saturday's final episode will serve as a lead-in to the UFC 100 pay-per-view event.

Star-divide

UFC 100 will feature Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar tangling with the division’s interim title keeper, Frank Mir, to determine once and for all an undisputed champion. In addition, UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre will once again defend his 170-pound strap against number one contender, Thiago Alves.

Rounding out the stacked card is a middleweight brawl between The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 coaches, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping, who will collide to determine who earns the right to challenge the reigning middleweight champion later in 2009.

hahaha…thats exactly the only thing I wanted to say about that but u beat me to it!

I will say, that I love this idea of this five part series, but 1 hour just isnt enough action. It doesnt do justice to this historic event, and a historic countdown of the best fights that took place in the famous Octagon…1 hour is nothing, combine that with commercials, and it just doesnt do the occasion JUSTICE if you ask me.

Dope fight… But I anticipate the BJ vs. Diego will be one for the ages. Yes, I believe Kenny will be totally dominated.

You’re not alone, but surprisingly, one of the few.

I dont think it will be close either. BJ is a hard man to damage. I really enjoy kenny’s fights, but I have a hard time envisioning him HURTING bj Penn, which is going to be a serious problem because BJ will INFLICT damage and no matter how good Kenny is on the ground, BJ Penn wont be getting outjitsed anytime soon, especially at lW. Kenny’s jits is top shelf though, and if he was a strong WW, with a big power advantage over BJ, he may be able to submit bj, because Kenny’s skills are that good. BUt I honestly believe that without having a serious power advantage, no one will submit BJ PENN. I just cant ever see that happening. I have a much easier time envisioning my beloved Fedor getting Ko’ed in the heavyweight division, then I do of seeing BJ getting submitted at LW.

Considering the fact that Kenny wont out jits BJ, and the fact that BJ will be able to take more of Kenny’s strikes then Kenny will be able to deal with BJ’s…so I have a hard time seeing how BJ could lose this fight. Especially when he proved the other day that he is in fabulous shape, already weighing 166 lbs with weeks to go.

I think once Diego gets the weight cut down, he will be more of a threat to BJ then Kenny will, but without a doubt, Kenny is a top 3 UFC lightweight for sure. UFC needs to do a better job of bringing in top LW’s to the lightweight division. NOt a lot of UFC nuthuggers realize that most of the top lightweights dont fight in the UFC. I have always been curious to see how the UFC’s lightweights match up with the top lightweights fighting over in Japan.

for example, I would love to see bJ, Kenny, and Florian fight:
Hellbow
Alvarez
aoki
GOmi
Kawajiri
Ishida
JZ

you can basically combine anyone on that list with BJ, Kenny or Diego and you get one helluva match up! i really hope to see Dana sign some of these top lightweights. IMO, the UFC lightweight division is too stacked with fighters with the same skill set (WRESTLING).. I mean, whats the difference between matching up Diego vs, guida, Maynard, Tyson, Pellegrino, Joe daddy? NOt really much. I want to see more of a variety (stylistically) of top lightweights in the UFC. Im not saying that I think Japan or the UFC’s lightweights are better then the other….Im just saying that I am interested and curious to see how they match up against each other.

GSP and Camp jackson showed it. You wanna damage BJ – go to the body and Kenny’s got some sick kicks. He can work from range and work him until he starts gassing then push the pace on him.

by NameNotRequired on Jun 29, 2009 6:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

agreed…insert Kenny’s name in there and you got yourself a trio of dudes that think they’re the best…tough to predict the outcome of any fight involving any combo of the forementioned

by McArthur on Jun 29, 2009 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

For some reason Huggie also thinks he’s the best LW going right now.

by PW on Jun 29, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

still?? One thing I’ll say is he doesn’t get finished…why Clay doesn’t consider a drop to 145 is beyond me…

by McArthur on Jun 29, 2009 2:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It’s the UFC, same reason Frank Edgar isn’t dropping, it’s a pay cut and a smaller show. They may as well ride the gravy train for as long as they can.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 29, 2009 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Money yes…..and it’s not like the top guys at 145 would be easy to beat.

by CL on Jun 29, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kenny basically got embarassed by Diego last time so it is just hard for me to imagine that he has improved that much.

by BNF on Jun 29, 2009 2:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

really? Kenny Florian and Diego were both out of thier element, both of them fighting at 185 pounds, Diego is still the stronger fighter, but Kenny has become more of a technician who is a lot more polished now than he was before.

I think Diego has better boxing, but Kenny has better kicks, Diego did maul Florian on the ground last time, but I think Diego has really abandonded his wrestling and focused more on his boxing.

Should be interesting.

Huerta/Guida was still better imo

No love for Shamrock/Severn II?

by Drake_Labatt on Jun 29, 2009 2:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Its funny to me that you think that Kenny will get totally dominated by BJ. BJ might win the fight but I dont think it will be as onesided as you might think. Kenny is a machine in there, he is elusive and can take alot of punishment, not to mention he can dish it out with the best of them. I also believe he has way more heart than BJ, remember “TO THE DEATH GEORGE” “TO THE DEATH”, goddam guy quit on his stool after being smashed round after round. I will be rooting for KENFLO and kinda hope he ends this fight with a nasty cut across the Cabbage Patch Kids forehead!!!!!! Regardless of what happens, if BJ loses he will whine, complain and give a bunch of excuses!!!!!

by Spyder on Jun 29, 2009 3:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m a Penn fan but your right he quit on the stool. I give Florian a better than 50% chance to beat BJ. Kenny is not going to quit and has the cardio to go five rounds. I have to question BJ’S cardio and heart.

BONNAR/GRIFFIN ONE!!!!!!

by Spyder on Jun 29, 2009 3:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The UFC Ultimate 100 poll is a joke.

Tito / F. Shamrock (classic)
Tito / K. Shamrock I (biggest fight in UFC history at the time)
Tito / Even Tanner (chamion absolutely destroyed)

UFC is so fucking self-serving it’s unreal.

I got $100.00 that says it’s all rigged, and Bonnar/Griffin takes the top spot, because Dana wants it to.

by introvert on Jun 29, 2009 3:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m with you I bet they don’t have any of Tito’s wins in there. Maybe they will put his fight with Randy or Chuck but they don’t want to give him any credit.

by Mike on Jun 29, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Only fights that tito lost were in the poll.

Big surprise.

by introvert on Jun 29, 2009 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you know what sucks, Griffin/Ortiz was a hell of a fight and should be in the 100.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 29, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even if Bonnar vs Forrest win, I think they deserve it.
Obviously you think it was an awesome fight too since you mentioned it. ;)

If you don’t like appreciate UFC, I suggest you stop watching it. :)

LOL…OK Mom.

by introvert on Jun 29, 2009 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I appreciate MMA…that doesn’t mean I have to drool over two C-Level fighters throwing sloppy punches for 15 minutes that wouldn’t KO a fly.

The only people who think that is the best fight in UFC history are people who starting watching the UFC during that season of TUF…..people like you. There is many, many fights before that one that are more indicitive of what MMA is all about than Griffin/Bonnar. Problem is this is going to be a poll on which fight was the best for the UFC business wise, and not which one was the actual best fight for fans.

by introvert on Jun 29, 2009 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It wasn’t the best fight, but it was the most important.

by PW on Jun 29, 2009 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was in the right place at the right time for sure; I think Wandi vs Guy Metzger was a better fight, and that was only 1 rd.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 29, 2009 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Or Newton vs Sakuraba, or Newton vs Renzo Gracie, or Ninja vs Mario Sperry, or Hendo vs Ninja, or Pele vs Matsui or; or etc..

by O damn he got caught on Jun 29, 2009 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If ppl thought Griffin vs Bonnar was amazing, they would have lost their minds watching Sperry vs Ninja

Diaz/Gomi are they considering pride fights seeing as they are the owners.

by Cut the Blue Wire on Jun 29, 2009 5:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I got Sanchez over BJ. It would be nice to see Nick Diaz in the mix but thats not gona happen. atleast not anytime soon. besides Diaz team has already announced that he would like to stay at 170 now

by Christafo on Jun 29, 2009 6:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I really hope Matt Grice vs. Jason Black from UFC 77 makes this list. That second round dignifies what MMA is all about. That still to date was the most crazy round I have witnessed.

Sanchez vs. Guida should be in the top 40. Bonnar/Griffin will be number 1 and there is no shock to that, and that is a shame. Yes, it was the most epic battle in UFC history because of what it did for the sport. I think Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg II needs to be in the top 5, because that has the coolest moment in the UFC ever.

If the UFC was smart they would release it on DVD later this year.

100 best fights = tons of $$$$ for the UFC

and potentially tons of new fans
