Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson sued for death of fetus stemming from July 2008 car wreck

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is being sued by one of the victims that was involved in his bizarre motor vehicle incident following his unanimous decision loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86: "Jackson vs. Griffin" back in July 2008.

The Tennessee native -- who has a massive pick-up truck with his image plastered on various sides — fled the scene of an accident and then continued to weave in and out of traffic and allude police, causing at least one more collision before coming to a stop.

While Jackson was cleared of any criminal charges relating to the miscarriage suffered by one of the victims just days after everything went down, he is now being targeted by a civil suit seeking more than $25,000.

Here’s the skinny from TMZ.com:

"Holli Griggs filed a lawsuit against Rampage in Orange County, California -- claiming he repeatedly rammed into her car 'so he could escape and flee the scene (hit and run).' Griggs says 'the impact of her abdomen with the steering wheel caused her amniotic fluid membranes (bag of waters) to rupture, ultimately resulting in the stillbirth of her baby.'"

His bizarre behavior, which included another brush with authorities just days after the arrest, has been attributed to a bout of "delirium" caused by a lack of sleep and an overabundance of energy drinks.

Jackson also split from his long-time trainer, Juanito Ibarra, which may or may not have been a contributing factor behind the initial "rampage."

The Wolfslair product originally plead not guilty to the charges but reversed his plea as part of a plea bargain that would defer his sentencing to January 7, 2010. If Jackson meets the requirements of the plea bargain, the felony count will be dismissed and he will only be sentenced for the misdemeanor. If he fails to meet the requirements of his plea bargain, he will be charged and sentenced on both counts.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more on this developing story.

Case dismissed.

Why would you defend Rampage? He deserves to go to jail

by ---Caesar--- on Jun 25, 2009 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not defending him, just saying it is impossible to prove that was the cause.

She must of really been looking forward to that kid if she’s suing him for a whoppin’ 25K. Is that a joke? How about deal it down to some front row tickets and a big mac. Christ, lady.

If I thought it was the real reason of my child’s stillbirth, I would want very badly to kill him. If she’s unsure, so what….give her the money for the possibility that it’s your fault. Then apologize to her as sincerely as you can. Anyone who villainizes the mother doesn’t have kids.

Agree Ovaries, Rampage is extremely lucky he isn’t locked up with a homicidal bereaved parent waiting for him on the outside.
And since when is not getting enough sleep and drinking lots of red bull an excuse for ANYTHING!?!?

I somehow doubt Rampage bumping into this skank’s car a few times caused her to prematurely pop one weeks later. Good luck proving that shit you old bag. How’s a playa gonna spin new 26’s with hater-ass bitches like this all up in his shit?

A lot of people seem confused on this one. This is a law suit. It has nothing to do with jail, it is all about money. He may very well have to pay up, because in a law suit you do not have to be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, but instead it is decided by preponderance of the evidence.

by naturalshadow on Jun 26, 2009 3:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, and it’s for a measley 25K. That’s “throw me a bone and I’ll fuck the hell off” money.

The Orange County DA already clarified that this woman was examined by medical personnel and Rampage’s actions were determined NOT to be the reason for her miscarriage. She is sueing him for property damage, personal injury and emotional distress.

Jeremy Jackson, I’ve been reading posts on this site off and on for about a year now, and you seem to have one of the more knowledgeable MMA minds on here. But after reading what you had to say about the lady suing Quinton Jackson, you sir, have shown us all what a heartless, worthless piece of shit you truely are. And believe me when I tell you, I regret the fact that this is the only opportunity I have to inform you of this fact.

by The Judge on Jun 26, 2009 4:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow. Those are some harsh words. The sort of words that might make a fellow take stock of things and regret his hastily typed attempt at humor.

That is, of course, unless those words were uttered by a poster whose claim to excellence on this site thus far is a post reading “Open up, i’m gonna take a shit in your mouth” a few scrolls down this very page.

If you motherfuckers wanna take swings at the incomparable JJ™, ;-) do it with your regular handle so I can deal with your sorry asses accordingly. Posting lame insults with newly created handles will no longer elicit responses, you chickenshit pole-garglers.

Jeremy Jackson, I can safely say I just lost all respect for you as a human being! You should be embarrassed to write something like that and have that kind of BS be representative of what kind of person you are. Shameful!

WAR JJ!!!!! I will back you up hommie. medical examiners already ruled that Rampage had nOTHINg to do with this womans UNFORTUNATE Miscarriage…yet this typical gold digging woman is looking to cash in on a terribly unfortunate tragedy….fOCK THAT BITCH!!!!

I hate when a tragedy occurs and people try to cash in on it! THats just really low if you ask me. Putting monetary value on a human beings life is something that IRKS tHE FOCK out of me….

Her unborn child was only worth $25,000 to her, and I am supposed to BASH JJ for not feeling sorry for her? YOU wont hear me bashing him! If she HONESTLY felt that Rampage was the cause of her losing her unborn baby, she would be suing Rampage for at least 6 figures…but she is NOT, she is asking for a little over $25,000…That is such BS…YOu cant even buy a new car for $25,000. So I guess that child meant less to her then a car….White TRASH if you ask me!

For those claiming that Rampage should be in jail…GIve me a FOCKING Break. He isnt pacman jones, who gets arrested every other week. This was an isolated incident, that resulted from a mental lapse….and you guys say he should be in jail? FOCK OFF!

JOhn, in one sentence you say that putting a price on a human life irks the fock out of you, then not 8 seconds later, you say she should ask for atleast 6 figures! hahahaha, you kinda lose credibility when you contradict yourself that blatently!!!

Caesar try not to argue with these morons ..thats what they want. They are sitting in their parents basement typing these comments and sipping their Keystone lights, hoping they get heated responses from people

by robbyc on Jun 26, 2009 9:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No MENTAL Lapses dont ever put you in jail! When you are found to have caused a crime because of mental problems… you get put in a mental hospital.there is a huge difference between a mental hospital were you get treatment, and PRISON.

Ceasar: Personally, I dont think anyone should be allowed to sue for the loss of a family member, and be awarded MONEY…THats just me….but If you are a person that thinks that you should be awarded money for a tragic loss of a child (not saying that you are Ceasar, just speaking in general), I would imagine that you would think your child is worth a whole lot more then $25,000.

Only asking for such a low amount, leads me to believe that SHE KNOWS that Rampage wasnt the cause of this tragedy, and she figures if she will ask for such a low amount, Rampage would just pay the small, slap on the wrist and move on instead of letting it drag out in court.

I will say that there are special circumstances in which a family member should be able to sue for money…but the only time that should be allowed is if the family member is the monetary PROVIDER for the family members that are suing.

For example: Say a a rich CEO, was driving drunk, caused an accident that resulted in the death of a HUSBAND, of a HOUSE wife, and father of 2 young children. Those family members should be able to sue for money, because that death leaves them in financial shambles, all directrly caused by the criminally negligent actions of the drunk driver being sued.

I dont mean to be cruel…but losing an unborn child doesnt have ANYTHING to do with MONEY. Its a Tragedy! In a case like that I either feel that the defendant should either go to jail, or be free…..depending on what the investigation believes actually caused the tragedy. If the accused caused the death of the unborn baby…send him to jail.NO MONEY should change hands!

But in this case the medical examiner alreday ruled that Rampage had NOTHING to do with the death, so she should stop being white trash, and looking to make a buck out of a tragedy!

THats just my ideology. Not trying to be harsh or offend anyone, but I really hate how our culture has just turned into…Money seeking lawsuits every time a tragedy occurs. Tragedy’s are the worst things that can happen in life…I dont know how anyone can think about money at a time like that. It truly sickens and saddens me!

by JOhn G on Jun 26, 2009 9:56 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Robbcy: I wasnt trying to offend anyone, or get a heated reaction out of anyone…so I dont know who the FOCK you think you are talking to? I am a MAN, who has worked extremely hard to get everything that he has in life. I tragically lost my father a year ago, and was advised to sue for monetary damages, and NOT ONCE could even THINK about putting a price tag on the tragic loss of my father. I was 25 when my father died (still a broke college student at the time), and he left behind my, and my 2 young siblings and a housewife….THe tragedy crippled my family financially, and WE NEVER even once considered to make a buck out of it! We Manned the Fock up, didnt ask for any hand outs, made sacrifices to survive and til this day we are still trying to pick up the pieces of our life

So I have every FOCKING right to speak my mind on this subject you FOCKING KLOWN!!!!! If my family went through financial hell because it lost its financial provider tragically and NEVER ONCE CONSIDERED SUING FOR MONEY THAT WE WOULD HAVE EASILY WON, then this FOCKING gold digger, should be THROWN in jail for trying to collect money from the loss of an unborn child.

Forget the FACT that Rampage was cleared of being responsible for this tragedy…..WHAT THE FOCK DOES MONEY have to do with her Loss?

Wow…. alot of craziness happended since I last posted.

If the suit isn’t about the death of the fetus, the title of this article is very misleding.

I remember the something about the medical examiners being unable to conclude that the accident caused the miscarriage. That doesn’t mean the crash had nothing to do with it. Caesar nailed you on contradicting yourself. And it’s silly to call her a gold digger then make fun of how little gold she’s going after. It doesn’t add up and simply don’t know whay she’s suing for so little.

She may be asking for a reasonable amount of money because that’s her co-pay on her medical bills or something. There are less cynical and more logical explanations than she values her unborn child at a market value of $25K.

One mental lapse is all it takes for some people to go to jail for life so that makes no sense JohnG. You are responsible for all your action all the time.

JJ, I think you were making a joke. I didn’t care for it because I have a little girl and my second will be here in a couple months. The thought of losing our baby takes away my usual sense of humor. And I normally enjoy a tasteless or offensive joke or two.

Ultimately, my point, is if your rampage, you give her the money if you think you had a 1% chance of contributing. You should be ashamed and willing to do whatever it takes.

Finally, in the military, I have taken actions that lead directly to the death of over 300 terrorists. I am very comfortable with it. We all have our lines, that when crossed, take away our capacity for remorse. If my wife were in a car accident with someone in a police chase and some idiot crashed into her. I would already want to hurt the guy even if our unborn baby was unaffected. If we lost the baby, and it was unclear why, I would have homocidal urges. If he showed anything other than sympathy, I would load my gun. It would take very little else to make me use it no matter what the consiquences. I’m not saying that’s the case here b/c I don’t have all the facts, but I do know Rampage caused this situation and doesn’t deserve sympathy, even for his one mental lapse.

JohnG and JJ don’t have kids. See my prvious post. It will change you. You hear it until the point that it’s cliche, but it is absolutely unavoidable like gravity. I used to think it was weird how people would become devistated by losing a child prior to birth. I would think, “they didn’t have a chance to form a relationship.” But you don’t realize what parents do over those 9 months. You see the 4-D ultrsounds and you get a strong indication what he/she will look like. You imagine he/she with your other children or cousins of similar age. You have a name picked out and people give you gifts with his/her name on it. You prepare a room. I doubt I will make a dent on a young guy with not kids, but I thought I’d take a shot.

JohnG,

Sorry about your Dad. Really!

I think it would have been okay to sue for damages if someone else was negligent. I don’t see it as putting a price on your loss. I think people should be held responsible as much as possible when their behavior causes someone else a loss of any kind. My wife works as a victim advocate for the state. A lot of the people file claims after they lose someone to a violent crime. The state will cover the cost of couseling, some medical bills, etc. They will never get their loved one back, but it just seems unjust to have financial hardship piled on top of it when you’re trying to pull your life back together.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jun 26, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Punch-

I don’t have kids and I clearly understand your points.

Just to add :

Common sense should be applicable in any situation.

In this case, (even if Rampage wasn’t directly responsible for the death of the fetus) the injured parties can :

1) beat him up (not realistic)

2) shoot him (realistic but very difficult)

3) sue him (most realistic)

Guess which one the average person would take? Its a no-brainer…

I generally respect the opinions of most of the knowledgeable posters on here but some of these ideas reek of blind, delusional nutthuggery.

by OJR on Jun 26, 2009 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I argued in favour of Rampage in the Jon Jones thread already, so my only bone to pick here is with the tone of this article and the way it’s presented; if Mania is copying the article from TMZ, they should also copy the paragraph where they cite that investigators concluded Rampage was NOT the cause of the miscarriage and also that Griggs is proceeding with the law suit to sue for Property Damage, Physical injury and emotional distress; not the loss of her Child.

Also the line :

“miscarriage suffered by one of the victims just days after everything went down”

is inaccurate, the fetus didn’t pass away until 2 weeks after the incident. And there’s so many reasons for loss of amniotic fluid, there’s no way to tell if this was the cause.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 26, 2009 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

all it says is more than $25,000. that just means that the case is going to the supreme court and not to small claims court which will only hear claims to a max of $25,ooo. i’m sure she is going to sue for a lot more than 25K. just thought i should point that out since so many posters are talking shit about her “only suing for 25K and that all her child is worth”

DirtyML,
Just my understanding but, It’s a civil case, they only need to convince most of the jurors that it is more likely than not that it was the cause.
I honestly don’t know if it’s a legitmate claim or not but, I give the victim the benefit of the doubt on this one. It’s not like wer’e talking about a slip and fall. This happened and Page is responsible. Hopefully they can settle without it getting way out of hand.

i personally think women should be able to choose to have a child or not..in this day and age..but religion and opinionated people disagree..what if a person already has 3 kids and what if she did not know she was pregnant and was partying and drinking, who wants a fetal alcohol child..what if she was raped and does not want some assh*les kid..there are too many things to debate and too many people on this planet..i have never had an abortion but i think it is ridiculous that there is an issue..

Funny, he’s being sued for the "death of a fetus" yet abortion is legal in this country.
Interesting.

i just gave my opinion..and yes it had sweet f*ck all to do with mma (and usual i only comment on fighters and such)

They’ve already said he wasnt what killed the fetus. So this probably wont go far.

I rmember reading that somewhere. Something about the age of the woman. This lady isnt 25-30 anything could of cause this, not to mention she lost the baby a few weeks later. Im not defending Page, but its seriously a joke for some of the things you can sue for in this country.

You’re dead on, the fetus was lost 2 weeks after the incident; there was also an investigation in which they concluded that the miscarriage wasn’t related to the accident. As far as loss of amniotic fluid; it can be cause for a lot of different reasons. She’ll sue him for emotional distress and property damage.

Michael Jackson died of food poisoning after he ate some 12 year old meat.

In other news, this gal is clearly after the money. Look at how long it took her to come forward with this story, look at the piddly-dink sum of money she’s asking for. In a civil trial any jury is going to look at Rampage negatively and give the big $—$25k is clearly “Pay me to go away” type cash.

Oh shit, looks like its a curtian call on quinton the comedian between probably episodes 3 & 4 of season ten.

my opinion this lady deserves at least 25K wether the accident caused this or not she didnt ask to get rammed by a madman

these were some of the funniest comments I have read thanks for the laughs

Could Chuck Lidell And the Axe Murderer sue him for killing their hopes and dreams? Could I sue him if he loses to Evans?
