Official JJ™ FIGHT ANNOUNCEMENT***

Huerta vs. Maynard at Fight Night 19 on September 16th.

VERY OFF TOPIC: Michael Jackson just died… weird guy, but I loved his old school stuff!

by ---Caesar--- on Jun 25, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I just heard about that; heart attack at 50 yrs old, crazy.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 25, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

It actually wasn’t a heart attack, it was a sudden cardiac arrest, which is a common result of drug overdose. But that’s just a hunch to what may have caused the cardiac arrest.

out of respect i’ll wait maybe an hour before cracking crude and tasteless jokes.

Gutted about this news, he was supposed to do a residency at the O2 next month so this is a massive shock. RIP Michael Jackson the King of Pop.

OFF Topic: A bout between Roger Huerta and Gray Maynard is set for september and is awaiting signatures. I think Dana is trying to send Roger out of the UFC with a loss (like what he did to Machida). If Gray wins this I think he should be the top contender at 155. Give Frankie EDgar the winner of the Neer vs Pelligrino fight.”

He got it down in the KJ noons vs Nick Diaz thread.

O sh!t son you got owned JJ, the JJ news train just got derailed! What now?!?! WHAT!!?

j/k, yea I’m really bored, I got nothin better to do than give you crap :)

“Is it time to look at the 10 point must system?”

That time was a long time ago, but it’s better late than never.

I don’t even know what else they could do, the half point idea sounds kinda dumb to me. I think the Pride style judging was the best; the fight was scored as a whole instead of rd by rd. Damage and effort to finish definatley need to be key criteria; imo more so than octagon control and TD’s. A fighter going for sub attempts off his back should get more points then a guy who’s just smothering him from top position.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 25, 2009 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions

a close round should be 10/9, a clear cut round 10/8 a domination round 10/7. problem solved.

by shamo84 on Jun 25, 2009 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions

also a more frequent 10/10 would help

by shamo84 on Jun 25, 2009 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions

most fights are only 3 rds, you give a guy a 10/7 and there’s no winning the fight anymore.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 25, 2009 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions

They just need to get away from that point system all together, you can’t score MMA like you score boxing; it’s just not the same, these guys only have 15 mins to make an impression on the judges; and 3 rds, I mean you drop 1 rd in an MMA fight and you’re in serious trouble. In boxing you can drop 3-4 rds and still be ok, 10 point system works fine in boxing. They need to get away from the point system, it’s not fair to score a 3 rd fight by rds, I think they need to go Pride style, make some adjustments to that style of judging, but at least keep the idea, that the fight is judged as a whole instead of rd by rd.

“most fights are only 3 rds, you give a guy a 10/7 and there’s no winning the fight anymore.”

Sure there is. Just come back with a 10-7 round of your own or two 10-8 rounds. Just playing devil’s advocate here.

by prokstar on Jun 25, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Dana or somebody needs to have a come-to-Jesus meeting with the judges. If dry humping lay n pray guys weren’t rewarded with wins for top position and control then we would stop seeing it very quickly. Diego should have won the second round against Huggie because Diego spent the whole time working for subs and throwing damaging elbows. Huggie hugged and threw hammer fists with less force than a hooker giving a hand job. And despite this Huggie got the round by being on top, and nearly stole the third the same way.

by PW on Jun 25, 2009 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Lay and Pray should start costing you points….for every minute you hug your opponent you lose a point.

by Jimbob on Jun 25, 2009 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

Well the Ref’s should be ready to stand them up sooner, it’s only a five minute rd, if you let a guy lay there for 2:30-3 mins and do nothing but maintain top position you just gave him the round for doing nothing. I think after 1 min of either not improving position or landing any significant strikes the fighters should be stood up. If transitions or sweeps are happening then thats fine let them have at it, but the lay n pray strategy needs to be ousted from MMA.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 25, 2009 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Clay Guida would be out of a job

by ---Caesar--- on Jun 25, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions

i do like how strikeforce is way more aggressive at forcing the fighters to remain active and not just letting them lay there and dry hump…how they give you 2 warnings if it appears you’re stalling and after the second warning they have the clock that counts down from 10 and if you havent improved your position they stand you up…

it stops that dry humping shit
