KJ Noons eyes MMA return with Strikeforce; Rematch against 'dumb ass' Nick Diaz

Kj Noons

Props: MMAWeekly.com

Quoteworthy:

"I'm for sure getting (an MMA) fight in before the year is out…. I'm in talks with Scott (Coker) at Strikeforce and we're just talking and just trying to see, and he's real flexible and he's willing to work with me…. I’ve been exploring [a rematch against Nick Diaz] with Scott from Strikeforce, to do a catchweight. I’ve never turned down the fight, it was just turning down getting paid three times less money than him. So if that’s something that people want to see, I’m just looking to fight good fights that people want to watch. That’s definitely one of the fights that’s out there for me … I never took anything away from him. I knew he was a good athlete going into it. I just can’t stand the guy personally; I think he’s a dumbass. But fighter-wise, he’s pretty good. I think that’s a great style for me."

The first and only Elite XC lightweight champion, KJ Noons, talks about his desire to return to mixed martial arts with the Strikeforce promotion before 2009 expires. Of course, a rematch with Nick Diaz -- who he defeated via technical knockout (cuts) back in 2007 -- is a fight that is currently under consideration. "King Karl" has not competed since a first round technical knockout win over Yves Edwards at Elite XC: "The Return of the King" in June 2008, opting to pursue his true passion, boxing, since that time.

all i think of when i see kj noons is when he got KO’d HARDCORE by crazy horse lol……maybe you shoulda had this attitude over a year ago and people would take u serious…..lol the thing i here more from kj noons then anyone “ill fight whoever the fans want me to fight”…when clearly that is not what you wanted

by JG on Jun 25, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

i didnt even read this before i wrote a comment and im not surprised to read this line " So if that’s something that people want to see, I’m just looking to fight good fights that people want to watch"……well kj we wanted to see that in elitexc you are just irrelevant now

by JG on Jun 25, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

OFF Topic: A bout between Roger Huerta and Gray Maynard is set for september and is awaiting signatures. I think Dana is trying to send Roger out of the UFC with a loss (like what he did to Machida). If Gray wins this I think he should be the top contender at 155. Give Frankie EDgar the winner of the Neer vs Pelligrino fight.

by DB on Jun 25, 2009 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry Tito, not Machida

by DB on Jun 25, 2009 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry Noons, but guess what? EliteXC was a bogus MMA organization that crumbled. Your belt means ZIP. Currently, Nick Diaz is being discussed as a Top 10 lb for lb fighter in the world. His career has since been on a meteoric rise and you, well, we all forgot about you and have been happier because of it. Stay in obscurity or follow the path of other equivalent EliteXC fighters. Try out for season 11 of TUF so I can watch some redneck jerk off on your food.

by ViolentMike on Jun 25, 2009 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions

VM- diaz top 10 p4p? how? I don’t remember him beating any top 10 in any weight class much less a p4p quality name on his resume. He beat up shammy and scott smith. Any top 15 WW or MW would have smashed both. As far as your hate on noons- by all means please continue.

by NameNotRequired on Jun 25, 2009 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions

VM watch what you say there, do you really want to watch a red neck jerk off?

by paniczoo on Jun 25, 2009 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Joe Rogan referenced Nick Diaz as being mentioned in top 10 p4p rankings at the most recent event, I believe during Nate’s fight. I’ll assume that’s where Mike is getting it from, but if he has another source, then that further supports that Nick is being DISCUSSED as a top 10, not saying he is top 10.

by YouveGotGold on Jun 25, 2009 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

VM i agree with most of the statments that i see you post but i havent heard any discussion about Diaz being top 10 nor do i think he is.

by belfort_fan on Jun 25, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

“Nick Diaz is being discussed as a Top 10 lb for lb fighter”

bullshit. Anyone who thinks Diaz is top 10 pound for pound is retarded. He’s never been top 10 in a single division at any point in his career.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 26, 2009 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Gold is right, Joe Rogan said that during Nate’s fight on the TUF finale. That being said, I don’t know of anyone outside of Joe Rogan that would put Nick Diaz in a top 10 p4p list.

by naturalshadow on Jun 26, 2009 2:39 AM EDT up reply actions

You’ve apparently never spoken with Kevin…

by Jeremyjackson on Jun 26, 2009 2:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Diaz by absolute destruction. That being said, Nick doesn’t need to do this fight. What’s in it for him? KJ is a “has- been” who failed in his “boxing” career and is clearly looking to get back in the spotlight.

KJ, Diaz has bigger fish to fry…

by OJR on Jun 25, 2009 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree. I dont even really want to waste Diaz’s prime with another fight against this tool! and YES he should be paid 3 times less then Diaz. NO one other than his white trash family wants to see him fight….DIAZ IS THE HEADLINER, thus gets paid like one!

The only ok part about seeing this match up is to watch KJ get utterly destroyed, which is exactly what will happen. If I were Diaz I would make him come up to about 173 lbs to take the fight…even better Diaz should just decline the fight all together, because without a fight against Diaz, KJ is a NOBODY!

Its so funny that RIGHT NOW, at this point in his career, he is in desperate need of Nick Diaz! hahahaha turn the fight down Nick!

by JOhn G on Jun 25, 2009 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree.

by Cut the Blue Wire on Jun 25, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I third that. Good call John, he is a nobody without Diaz!!!

by BOW on Jun 25, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

You guys might be shocked when i say – i completely disagree. Regardless of the hate, i’ve always said that KJ is a bad matchup for diaz. Even though i bag on him for all the contract bs, i still say he’s gonna rip him up again. His hands are quicker and cleaner than diaz’s. He’ll be able to land accurately despite the heavy volume from diaz that ends up deflecting a lot of guys strikes while landing. Add to that the weight cut and diaz’s horrible offensive wrestling- it’s gonna be another bloody fight.

by NameNotRequired on Jun 25, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

JOhn G, are you sure your mother isnt white trash

by itz on Jun 25, 2009 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s good for Diaz to beat the guy who beat him. That’s what Diaz can get out of it. But also, if he loses, this guy ill have beaten him twice, which would SUCK.

Diaz is on a tear at the moment so I’m all for this fight. The only thing it has to compete with is that Diaz is in the position to be fighting much higher ranked fighters than KJ Noons.

But the only thing going for Diaz/Noons is that it’s a good grudge match and it gives Diaz the chance to avenge his loss.

by Kobajack on Jun 25, 2009 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Funny how people are so set on how Diaz will crush Noons. Diaz offered him nothing last fight, and got his ass handed to him. Noons is a far better striker, and has enough takedown defense to avoid the ground game with Diaz’s wrestling. He is a bad matchup for him.

I’m sure people on this site will see me as a hater, but man do you people overrate Diaz. He is a talented fighter, but come on now. The guy was outstruck by Sean “t-rex arms” sherk. Lay off the koolaid and watch his fights against real competition. With the exception of a gassed Gomi, the track record isn’t too hot.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 26, 2009 1:03 AM EDT up reply actions

The only reason I would want to see this is to see KJ noons get smashed, but Nick has nothing to gain from this at all he should only fight people with name recognition or that are ranked, noons is just trying to gain a name for himself.

by Nor-Cal Mexican (formely phlicutioner) on Jun 25, 2009 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Can’t wait to see Nick knock this chump out. He won’t win by a cut again, Nick had his bones around his eyes shaved down to stop getting cut in every fight. I hope Nick knocks him out then slaps his fat ass washed up dad.

by XfistXflyingX on Jun 25, 2009 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

You guys are all up on Diaz nutz and i think you need to go and watch that fight again. your boy had no answer but to scoot his punk ass across the matt like a poodle trying to relieve a dingle-berry! f*ckin hate those punk ass nor cal bitches

by 619Gangster on Jun 25, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

nah kj for the win…those lil pitty patty punches nick throws arent gonna work…it will be just like their first fight…noons will stuff all of his takedowns and pick his face apart

by HellaHectic on Jun 25, 2009 12:09 PM EDT reply actions

Exact, KJ will take it by TKO… Nick wont last long in this one.

by JonnyBoy on Jun 26, 2009 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Diaz by TKO or KO. Hope he beats KJ’s ass.

by The5thBeatle on Jun 25, 2009 12:13 PM EDT reply actions

Now Nick Diaz is the dumbass ha Kj. This guy kj is a douche, his boxing career didn’t go as plan and now He wants to challenge Diaz. I say He doesnt deserve Diaz, Diaz moved on, He foght Frank, and Scott at 180. And now this punk ass want to get his name in the mix by fighting Nick. F U Kj go back to your boxing we don’t need pussys like u to mess up mma.

by dkortez on Jun 25, 2009 12:13 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t know if you noticed KJ, but Nick’s been beating the sh!t out of middle weights lately; making him cut to 155 would be better for Noons; Diaz might come in weak and unhealthy but a catch weight? Nick’s going to kill him this time.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 25, 2009 12:23 PM EDT reply actions

noons is broke and looking for a pay day… nick is a better boxer than the last “proffesional” boxer that kicked kj’s tail… I say nicks “patty” punches aggravate noons, noons takes it to the ground and gets tapped out

by mike on Jun 25, 2009 12:26 PM EDT reply actions

Totally agree with KJ here. Respect Diaz as a fighter – even though I think he should get back into the UFC and concentrate on 1 weight class and stop dicking around with an organization that has only a handfull of quality fighters, 1 of which he wont fight – but CANT STAND his attitude. Ya I know, he’s from Stockton. Whoopty shit, not an excuse – glad his brother is getting knocked down a couple of pegs.

by WB on Jun 25, 2009 12:26 PM EDT reply actions

At least the guy is real. That can’t be said for many other fighters……maybe Fedor and Wanderlei. Other than that, they are mostly phonies.

by introvert on Jun 25, 2009 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Being a d-bag does not neccesarily = being real in my book. I would consider Hendo real, I would consider Florian real.

And think I gave KJ too much credit in my first post, he needs to give the boxing career up if it is going to cause him to miss this much time in between fights.

by WB on Jun 25, 2009 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn’t say “every fighter is a phony.”

by introvert on Jun 25, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

If I were Nick I’d say “sure, but it’ll have to be at 170.”

Nick hasn’t been that good after cutting to ‘55. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he doesn’t look good that light, but looks great when fighting heavier. KJ got lucky in the last fight with Nick in the sense that he fought Nick at that lighter weight. I’m not taking away anything from his win (a win is a win), but I think Nick looks way too good at 170 and up for KJ to win again.

Fight him at 170, Nick!!!!!!

by introvert on Jun 25, 2009 12:36 PM EDT reply actions

I say stay at 180. Noons needs this fight for recognition and diaz looks unstoppable at 180. Make him come up.

by Dragon on Jun 25, 2009 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions

180 is fine for him, but the guy has to start staying at one weight class for a while IMO. Jumping around weights and entertaining us is cool and all, but at some point Nick has to run through a weight class to boost his value.

170 is perfect for him.

JMHO

by introvert on Jun 25, 2009 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree if you saw the rankings that where put out the other day diaz was ranked 18 at 170 and 17 at one 180. If he had been fighting at 170 the whole time he’d be in the top 5.

by amm on Jun 25, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Those rankings are sh*t. I scoured them quickly, saw matt hughes at #5 and no Diego or Bisping and stopped looking. Complete joke.

by Adam T. on Jun 25, 2009 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I see your point and if he ver wanted a belt he is gonna have to pick a class.

by Dragon on Jun 25, 2009 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Unstoppable against Frank Shamrock and Scott Smith. LOL!
I like Diaz but he needs to fight top level competition in the UFC.

by Adam T. on Jun 25, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Yawn.

Can’t people just enjoy what a fighter does without the old “UFC UFC UFC” chant?

by introvert on Jun 25, 2009 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s kind of important who the fighter “does” it to.

by Adam T. on Jun 25, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, who matters, but WHERE doesn’t. I believe that was the point…

by ViolentMike on Jun 25, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Absolutely WHERE doesn’t. But who does and who are Frank Shamrock and Scott Smith? Definitely not top level competition.

by Adam T. on Jun 25, 2009 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s Frank Fucking Shamrock!!!!!

So what if he didn’t look so hot or if he is passed his prime. Any UFC “top level” guy that you are talking about would fight Frank in a heartbeat.

by introvert on Jun 25, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions

KJ you had your chance to make some real money and you turned it down. I don’t even consider it a victory the doctor stopped it Nick didn’t get knocked out or tap, He was in a ton worse shape against Gomi and look what happen. Go back to your four round boxing matches I for one have no intrest in seeing you compete in MMA. EliteXC told Nick to go in the ring to stir up interest in the rematch. He did everyone wanted to see that fight happen again, people who have nevr heard of you before all of a sudden knew who KJ Noones was, it was because of Nick that you got all that publicity shame on you for not cashing in when you had the chance.

by Mike on Jun 25, 2009 1:04 PM EDT reply actions

I have a second thought give KJ the rematch for half of what he would have made if he would have done it right away.

by Mike on Jun 25, 2009 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe KJ could beat the ugly out of Diaz, no wait, that’s impossible. Diaz by TKO.

by The Buffalo on Jun 25, 2009 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

Kj by cut stoppage lmao

by phenomenal angel on Jun 25, 2009 1:39 PM EDT reply actions

did anyone watch the first fight? lol. diaz got tooled standing up. i’m not saying diaz has no chance in a rematch, but c’mon….go back and watch the fight again. diaz’s takedown attempts were terrible. i’ve been doing mma for 8 months and i have better wrestling than diaz.

by lefthook187 on Jun 25, 2009 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

lol at Noons trying to stay relevant. Have fun trying to get Diaz to cut down to 165 for a catchweight. Bulk up and meet the dude at 170. You’re the one who needs publicity, not Diaz.

by rockwell on Jun 25, 2009 1:45 PM EDT reply actions

Thats right KJ try and hype the fight now for more loot. No stand up this time, and we will see how long the fight lasts.

by Nick Diaz 209 on Jun 25, 2009 1:53 PM EDT reply actions

haha You guys crack me up sometimes. KJ was handily whooping Diazs ass when that fight was stopped. I dont see much happening different in this one. If Diaz can take it to the ground, then he can win. If he trades, hes done.

by enzo-enormous on Jun 25, 2009 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

Nick would never turn this fight down if it was presented to him, because of his utter hate for KJ I think Nick would move up to heavy weight just to get a chance to smash his face (which I hope he does)

by jet99 on Jun 25, 2009 2:30 PM EDT reply actions

Diaz looks like a caveman in the background of this pic.

by Big Daddio on Jun 25, 2009 2:46 PM EDT reply actions

The only reason anyone ever heard of KJ is because he fought Diaz!If there was no fight against Diaz, People would be saying KJ WHO ?

by dc on Jun 25, 2009 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

KJ by tko, probably by cuts again. The Diaz bros are trashy thugs and they suck against top competition. Happy that the younger thug douche lost to Joe daddy and Guida. Nick will lose when he finally starts fighting some tough fights again. KJ ‘s last win wasn’t lucky…he busted that face up.

by dude on Jun 25, 2009 3:05 PM EDT reply actions

I like the Diaz brothers but I completely agree with your tough fights comment. Props dude.

by Adam T. on Jun 25, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Im with you on this one…both of them are punks asses. I was glad when Joe Daddy won…Same with Nick UFC needs to sign him up and match him with Nate the great, Also Damian Maia So he can clown his Gracie JJ black belt. Maybe even Leites.

by Danny_c on Jun 25, 2009 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Diaz doesn’t deserve to get in the cage with Marquardt. Let him get his ass kicked by Marcus Davis, then watch his fans go apeshit.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 26, 2009 1:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Diaz may be a better, and more popular fighter but KJ wopped his ass in there last fight. Just youtube it.

by Bobby on Jun 25, 2009 3:07 PM EDT reply actions

You KJ lovers are morons!! Huuuge Morons! Nick is finally starting to come into his own as a complete fighter. I think its clear he belongs in the UFC, and before some MMA rookie comments next let me tell you that it was Nick that left the UFC not the other way around. Dana would take him back in a second and has said so in recent interviews. The Nick Diaz today compared to the one that fought KJ the first time are two totally different fighters.

Nicks stand up alone will beat KJ’s.. God forbid this fight goes to the ground its over within 30 seconds. A smart Nick Diaz takes the fight to the ground and ends it quickly, however having some much hate for this guy will end up in a KO for KJ!

by Nick Diaz 209 on Jun 25, 2009 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

Very good stuff

by Cut the Blue Wire on Jun 25, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Ya, I can see his standup has improved light years by fighting highly ranked almost top 50 fighters in scott smith and frank shamrock. And his 3 losses in a row in the ufc (one to joe riggs of all people) had nothing to do with leaving the ufc.

I think Diaz needs to do this fight, there is still questions.

This is the last guy who beat him, and let’s be honest even without the cut he was losing this fight in a serious way.

I for one would like to see it.

It’s not like there’s a huge amount of fights for Nick in Strikeforce, they have a very sparse roster.

by ShaiZ on Jun 25, 2009 4:05 PM EDT reply actions

He wasn’t losing that fight at all, it was only like a 3 min fight; you guys act like Noons was killing him on the feet; not even. Diaz was landing too; KJ just happened to cut him open in a bad spot. I just watched that fight like 2 hrs ago and Diaz was definatley not getting beat down. That fight still had another 12 mins or so to go; it wasn’t even 1/3rd of the way through; it got stopped way too early to be sitting here saying “Diaz was losing that fight in a serious way.”

by O damn he got caught on Jun 25, 2009 6:24 PM EDT up reply actions

by 619Gangster on Jun 25, 2009 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Lol, what a well thought out argument; I mean can that even be refuted?? “u r an idiot and need glasses”; you just back it up with all kinds of facts and logic it’s amazing how retarded you are. Good way to prove your point; if that point is that you’re a blithering idiot that brings absolutley NOTHING worthwhile to this thread. Give me some stats to back up how out of touch I am. What did strikes landed/thrown look like for both fighters? Do you even know dumb@ss??

by O damn he got caught on Jun 26, 2009 12:08 AM EDT up reply actions

That fight stopped with 2:22 left in the 1st rd, Noons landed like 15-16 strikes maybe??? If that.. anyone saying Noons was “dominating” Diaz in that fight, and that he was doomed to lose anyway, is a F*cking moron.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 26, 2009 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions

he wasn’t losing the fight? AHAHAHAH! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

He was only getting the ever loving SHIT kicked out of him. Wasn’t losing… Anyone who didn’t have that round scored 10-8 needs to find another sport to watch.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 26, 2009 1:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Exact, true that!

I heard even one of the commentators say something like “Now Diaz is pepepring him with shots again”… and not a single shot landed.

Diaz will be better second time around but so will KJ be, KJ is going to take this again… just as easy as the first fight.

yohnstoppable, JonnyBoy, 619gangster, you guys are retards if you think winning 1 rd in a fight is indicative of the rest of how the rest of that fight was going to go. ESPECIALLY with a fighter like Nick Diaz thats not going to be giving up or throwing in the towel if its up to him. Just dumbass comments on your part.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 26, 2009 7:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I was wrong about the stoppage time, the fight was stopped at 2:22 into the 1st rd to check the cut, then they stopped it in between rds, so I’ll conceded that my above post was incorrect on the stoppage time. So yea there I was wrong, I have no problems saying that.

But still; aside from the cut and 1 knock down, Noons wasn’t dominating, AND Diaz got 2 TD’s in that rd as well; you guys are overexaggerating worse than a celeb gossip tabloid.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 26, 2009 8:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Nick should have him come all they way up to 170 or 175 to fight since he was willing to fight all the way down around 155 the first time. Noons was such a drama queen about fighting him again after the cut stoppage due to Nicks previous scar tissue build-up. Now he needs to come up to 170 or 175 or forget it. He needs Diaz more than Diaz needs him.

by StompgrASS on Jun 25, 2009 6:42 PM EDT reply actions
