So much for Gary Shaw being a douchebag for capitalizing off of a freakshow no-talent street fighter, eh Dana?
by Jason on Jun 22, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think Dana is promoting him as “an unbeatable street fighting sensation” and throwing him against badly overmatched geriatric cans. If Fergie wants to succeed in UFC he will have to actually beat legitimate HW fighters.

Sure they are. That’s what Kimbo’s known as. When else has Zuffa/Spike used a contestant to market the upcoming season of TUF?
It’s a win-win scenario too. If he washes out it’s “See, told ya so, he sucks” but if he’s successful it’s “Thanks to all the world-class training he got here at the UFC training center”. I can’t say I blame BLAF for having Kimbo on this season. It’ll be killer for ratings, and that show needs a serious shot in the arm. But using a contestant to market the season….just lame, imo.

this is by far going to be the most annoying season of tuf ever… between rampage’s goofball antics, rashads’ totally irritating personality and kimbo’s just general retardedness i predict the most obnoxious, drama filled soap opera that may even top the “real world” on mtv, i think i just threw up in my mouth!

This commercial, like a lot of others I’ve seen from Zuffa as of late, is cool as hell.

im thinking it was more spiketv’s idea to have kimbo in the commercial like that~
i heard that, while kimbo is getting paid the same as what all the tuf guys are getting paid, he is still making way more..
im hearing that along with his zuffa check, kimbo gets an X amount from spiketv..which isn’t hard too believe..
apparently spiketv is responsible for kimbo on the show too..they were the ones who made ‘first contact’ about the idea~
anyways~ just saying.. u know? the rumor mill~ always running~

Im already sick of talking about this up coming season of TUF. Im sick of talking about kimbo….This will be the last time I post anything on this subject.
Im done talking about this til September….check back with me then!

Dana is just taking an opportunity that basically fell into his lap. He can hardly keep a straight face when Kimbo’s name comes up. When Kimbo got wind that Dana made a half-assed jesture he’d put him on TUF, Kimbo jumped at it.
Dana, more or less, is just along for the ride on this one. Kimbo thinks he will prove Dana (and the world) wrong, and Dan gets huge publicity for next to nothing. I’m with Dana 100% on this.

fucking jacked for this season. my two favorites both coaching in a row. hendo, rampage hopefully marquardt is next. btw this commercial looks sick, especially when rampage looks back at the giant heavyweight. i cant wait to see how kimbo does in the end

Dana isn’t the one creating these promos…SPIKE is. And so what if Dana allowed Kimbo on the show, Kimbo still has to beat a bunch of heavyweights to get in the UFC (not likely).

And no one will give a crap about Kimbo either once this season is over with; it’s actually pretty damn genius, now a bunch of Kimbo nut huggers are actually going to tune in to watch him mix it up with a bunch of REAL fighters; Kimbo may yet again unwittingly bring even more casual fans into MMA. Who are you to say that some guy won’t tune in just to see Kimbo, watch the show and when it’s done be a Roy Nelson fan??

Is this woman aware of what a 10 point must system means? She says that she’s been covering mma for a while and she knows her stuff, yet she can’t score a round! I think Dana hit the nail on the head calling her a clueless bitch!

I have a question that i’m serious about…how do you score a round if by miracle the 2 guys did the exact same thing and you believe it’s a draw?
Can it be possible to have a 10-10?
Or you absolutely need to favor one of the fighters and give a 10-9?

alpha~ 10 point must system pretty much sums it up~
by stinky~fingers on Jun 23, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The biggest misconception associated with the 10 point must system, particularly amongst Mixed Martial Arts fans, is that you cannot have a 10:10 round. 10:10 rounds are infrequent within MMA but are allowed within the rules.
Reasons for this misconception stem largely from the phrasing of the brief rules description at the start of UFC broadcasts “The round winner gets 10 points, with his opponent receiving 9 or less”.
At no point does this description state that there must be a round winner, however this is often assumed by the viewer as there is no mention of 10:10 as an option.
Additionally, 10:10 rounds rarely dictate the outcome of a bout even when they do occur, as they are usually awarded by one judge at a time. One noteable exception where a 10:10 round did dictate the fight result is the 2003 bout between Ian Freeman and Vernon White. The fight was scored 30-27, 28-29, 29-29 with the final scorecard including a 10:10 round.

There is no way Kimbo will fight early on in the show unless they put him up against someone they know he will beat. I don’t get how they can promote him in the same fashion that they are promoting Rampage and Rashad.
by VNDK8 on Jun 22, 2009 5:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Um they’re not….Rampage and Rashad are contenders and coaches and Kimbo is a well known fighter trying to get on the show, I see nothing wrong with the promo, infact I think its designed to make Kimbo look like a fool when he gets knocked out in his first fight, good work Dana
by Robert(1) on Jun 22, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Who is “they”? The coaches pick the fights remember… and I dont think Rampage or Rashad care about giving Kimbo someone he can beat. They are gonna do what is best for the team. I bet Kimbo gets called out early though!

Wow….what happened to Skala and Gary shaw being a bunch of idiots for over-hyping this “guy who fights in backyard barbeques”?
Anyone who was on Dana’s side about a year ago when he was badmouthing everyone who had anything to do with Kimbo, you should all be eating crow right now.
And don’t give me the whole “Dana isn’t hyping him up as anything other than a guy on TUF”, because I have NEVER seen a commercial focused solely on ANYONE else that has EVER been on TUF.
Dana White = Gary Shaw ….. without the douchebag kid.

So you’re comparing Kimbo Slice’s spot on TUF; a weekly show that airs free on spike TV, to an organization that used him as the face of their company, headlining their shows and fighting in their main event? TUF is a show for up and coming fighters; trying to prove themselves, they aren’t even technically in the UFC yet… But why bother with this one; intro, for w/e reason, likes to blindly hate on Dana White and the UFC; doesn’t matter what the facts might be.

You see that big black glove in the picture at the top of this page?
What’s it say on it?
Please, O’damn…..don’t tell me you are this fucking idiotic.
Funny you mention how it’s “free on tv”. I don’t remember paying a dime to watch Kimbo fight for Elite XC….about $49.95 less than Dana is planning on hosing you for after he babies Kimbo for a couple months to ensure that you will buy the PPV after the show is over.
Why do you call me “blind”? My friend, if you don’t see the writing on the wall with this UFC/Kimbo deal…..you are Helen fucking Keller with a Tapout t-shirt on.

In this case, Intro is right. Anyway you spin it, DW is a hypocrite. Period.
by OJR on Jun 22, 2009 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Even when Kimbo was with Elite XC and Dana was trash talking him he still said the only way he’d ever take the guy was if he did TUF; and thats what he’s doing. Now that he’s got a few secs on a 22 sec commercial for a weekly TV show that airs free on spike; Dana’s a hypocrite…
Not saying that he can’t be a hypocrite, but on this issue; I really don’t see it. Especially since even when Elite XC was in business and Kimbo was still their main guy; Dana said “The only way Kimbo gets into the UFC is to do TUF”. Isn’t that what he said, and isn’t that what he’s doing???? I’d just like to know how he’s a hypocrite.
Kimbo isn’t headlining UFC PPV’s or UFN’s, the guy isn’t even fighting on a UFC card yet; he’s not being marketed as the next HW contender for the title; the UFC’s success does not hinge on the success of Kimbo Slice. Where are you drawing your comparison of Kimbo in EXC to Kimbo on TUF and how is Dana White a hypocrit for saying that “Kimbo isn’t a real fighter, the only way we’d allow him in the UFC was if he won TUF”; and that damn near everything Elite XC was doing was a horrendous way to do business (add many [expletives] where needed)???
by O damn he got caught on Jun 22, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If nothing that DW does or says strikes you as hypocritical re : Kimbo then I sincerely doubt you have any objectivity.
BTW – I think DW is great for MMA but he does contradict himself alot.
by OJR on Jun 23, 2009 7:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not saying he isn’t hypocritical, I just don’t see it on this issue; he is doing what he said he would do; didn’t he say if Kimbo wins TUF then he can be in the UFC?? How is doing what you said you would be willing to do hypocritical??
by O damn he got caught on Jun 23, 2009 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If it was like “UFC 105: KIMBO TIME BITCH’S”; I’d see where you guys are coming from; but there’s no comparison between the way EXC handled Kimbo Slice and how the UFC is handling him.
by O damn he got caught on Jun 23, 2009 9:03 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Just the concept of trashing Kimbo overall and then turning around and including him on your show.
Hypocritical but a great business move.
by OJR on Jun 23, 2009 9:06 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
So if Kimbo had come to Dana and said, “Hey, I’ll take you up on your challenge, let me on TUF.” and DW had said “No screw off.” Wouldn’t you STILL be calling him a hypocrit for saying one thing and then backing out of it later??? I’m sure there’d be all kinds of “O, Dana’s scared he’ll win the show, he’s just covering his @ss”. It just seems like the guy can’t do anything right when it comes to some ppl lol. Completely unreasonable opinions w/ you guys imo.
by O damn he got caught on Jun 23, 2009 9:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
My opinion is very solid and based on reasoning because I am not a DW basher.
In regards to Kimbo, he is a hypocrite.
Not evil, not a scum bag or a jerk. Just a typical successful businessman who will say whatever needs to be said to make sure he cashes in. Nothing wrong with that, its what powers capitalism. I just call them as I see them.
I could turn around and rebut that people like yourself defend DW too much and that’s just as unreasonable, IMO.

i dont think dana was the one to contact kimbo..

i have a post above that explains the rumor~
by stinky~fingers on Jun 23, 2009 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess where I’m confused with you guys is, how are you calling the man a hypocrit when he’s doing exactly what he said he would do??? So he bad mouthed Kimbo Slice (and he was right); but during all that bad mouthing did he not say “If Kimbo wants into the UFC he has to do TUF”. ? Did he not say “I might even be willing to make an entire HW season if Kimbo agrees to do TUF.” ? It would be hypocritical NOT to let him do TUF; then he would actually be in a position where he’s saying one thing and doing another.
Like I said above, I’m not saying the guys an angel, or that he can’t be a hypocrit, but when it comes to Kimbo Slice, he’s doing exactly what he said he would do, which is not hypocritical at all.

O dam, I agree 100%
Intro, The Shaws would say “from the street, to elite” and after he KO’d Tank “Kimbo is for real, he has silenced all his critics”
Dana has said nothing like that. Truth is that if Kimbo would have taken the TUF route in the begining, he would have gotten more respect. Kimbo = ratings yes, but what does that have to do with making it to the UFC? If Dana had brought him directly to the UFC then yes, I would agree with you. If anything Dana made a mountain for Kimbo to climb by letting Nelson on the show.
by JV on Jun 22, 2009 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
ODYGC – You are right on point man. I remember Dana saying that and while Dana is a guy that people love to hate he’s one of the smartest people in MMA. He knows what he’s doing. Gary Shaw did not, and EliteXC crumbled because of it. There is NO comparison between the two.

I’m not eating crow… I hated Shaw for putting Kimbo as a main event on every card! He isn’t good enough to be a main event fighter, not even close! The UFC won’t do that, even if he wins the show!! He will bring in ratings, there is nothing wrong with promoting him, just dont put him in your main event as if he is a superstar!

You guys are more blind than any other Dana lovers I’ve ever seen.
6 months from now you will be dishing out $49.95 to watch Kimbo in a “co-main attraction”, and you’ll be asking yourselves “why was I so harsh on Elite XC again?” …“oh ya, that’s right, because they had Kimbo on as the main event on free television.”
Just wow.

Dude, Elite XC marketed Kimbo Slice as their premiere fighter; he was their front runner. That whole company based their success on him. There is NO comparison between what Elite XC did and what Dana White and the UFC is doing. Wether Kimbo Slice makes it or not, it doesn’t matter; that will not make or break the UFC. The guys on a show with a bunch of lesser skilled fighters like himself (Aside from Nelson); to fight his way into the UFC. What are you making such a big deal out of?? I don’t even know what your point is; that Dana’s a hypocrit? Woopity doo; he’s a millionaire dealing in big business; that doesn’t mean I’m gonna quit watching the UFC because of it. My prediction…..
- Kimbo get 90% of the tv time.
- Kimbo is the last guy to fight his first fight. (just in case)
- Dana says “this is the best season EVER!!!!” about 8,000 times.
- Rampage and Kimbo get a feud going with each other.
- Dana says “this is the rowdiest bunch of fighters we’ve EVER had” about 8,000 times.
- Kimbo wins his first fight.
- Dana says “this is the best fight we’ve EVER had”, about Kimbo’s fight….8,000 times.
- Kimbo loses his second fight.
- Dana signs him to a deal anyway and he’ll be a UFC “rags to riches” poster buy.
- Dana says “it’s not like I fucked his career up like those other idiots”, about 8,000 times.

I never said I wouldn’t watch it….I haven’t watched it since the Tito/Shamrock season, but I will tune in to this one to see how much of a 180 Dana White does with Kimbo. I can hear it now….“this guy was fighting in parking lots, but now that he’s trained with Rampage and Rashad for two weeks…he’s an up-and-comer that’s going to turn the MMA world on it’s head….just like Brock Lesnar….”
You guys got your heads so far up Dana’s ass you need to come out for air. The guy is a lying, hypocritical douchebag. Do I think it’s a good business move…hell ya. Do I think it makes Dana look like an even bigger scumbag…..hell ya. He’s a snake-oil salesman.
Not sure why you guys call me a Dana hater. The fucking guy could run over 12 kids at a cross-walk in his Ferrari and you guys would say "ya, but at least he didn’t mince words in his blog when he was talking about how he tried not to run too many over, and he helped MMA get mainstream attention….so it’s all good.
On the other hand, I don’t have to reach very far to hate on the guy…..he makes it pretty fucking easy.

Who’s the big guy standing behind Rampage and Rashad?
by Hooner on Jun 22, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
We know Dana’s a sellout. We also know that for the most part we are dumb effs because we’ve kept watching the show for the last few seasons. This same show filled with “real fighters” like Jesse Taylor, Junie Browning and his younger brother. I can say that this last USA vs. UK show has been immensely enjoyable because the stupid pissing and jizzing and house trashing was done away with. The ratings probably weren’t as huge because of this.
But… Dana knows what gets ratings and Kimbo is like Ratings Master. What’s worse: He knows that we’re stupid and will watch.
Don’t worry, “It’s ALL Good!”

they should maybe offer the pitbull a spot on here, hes got a chin similiar to that of kimbo, that would be a fun fight!! Pitbull by flying knee!!
Only kiddin i actually like the pitbull by the way, hes just lost his way….
Dana white has taken a step back in the chuck liddell retirement talk, looks like the iceman may fight if he wishes after all???? I hope if he does that he can get that 1 last ko and retire he deserves nothing less!!!!!!!
By the way does kimbo get ko’d in his first fight?? Or has the filming yet to start?
by mo on Jun 22, 2009 7:25 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wonder if ratings will tank seeing how he should be gone by the first week, i dont think anyone would choose to fight anyone else Kimbo is their easy road to victory and a nice $5000.
by Khaos_Warrior on Jun 22, 2009 7:42 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Thinkin the exact same thing.. unless theres like a “no picking Kimbo until 3-4 weeks is up” rule.

Don’t hate on Kimbo. If anyone has a chance to secure a payday, they should. Kimbo made some good money on his prior fights and could’ve made more, but decided to go on TUF. Kimbo is going to shock all the haters and win this $hit.

This is my prediction
Kimbo gets passed the 1rst round to some inexperienced fruit basket and advances into the house. Maybe he gets by on more guy but I don’t see him winning this competition especially if they have some division AA wrestlers or BJJ purple or brown belts.
Then Dana is going to say “I talk a lot of shit about this guy but after watching him fight I have to respect him for having balls to step up to the plate. At the end of the day we want to put on big fights and Kimbo is a big draw.” and then he gets to fight in the UFC like all the other fighters in the past seasons who did not win.
WIn or Lose Kimbo will be in the UFC and although I don’t think he will ever be champ. It would definitely be exciting just to watch him match up with Kongo, Gonzaga, Carwin, and Lesnar.
by skelow on Jun 22, 2009 8:08 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Kongo, Gonzaga, Carwin, and Lesnar? Any of those names you mentioned would destroy kimbo, with no problem. Topmson took him down, any of those guy would hurt him. Two of them could take him down with ease, and the other two could kncck his head five rows back. Not one of those guys would need more than about 2 mins to end it.
by lokie on Jun 23, 2009 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Are you serious skelow? Not even mentioning they dont have to fight to get into the house this season, which has been mentioned about one million times on this sight, but as lokie said any of those 4 would DESTROY Kimbo.
Why would any of them even take that fight? Those are 4 of the elite in the HW and Kimbo, as of now, is a contestant on TUF. You sir, are retarted – to put it mildly.

by mo on Jun 23, 2009 12:57 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Essentially Setanta is screwed, im hoping someone like Virgin will buy their UFC contract from them, not sure what will happen though.
They have already started selling off SPL matches and stuff, to espn i believe.

im not affraid to say it — I like kimbo and enjoy watching him fight.. ive been a fan for a while now.
Now i cringe when watching a street fights , its sooo brutally violent.I cant watch street fighting its just tooo much for me. BUTTtt Kimbo ( jorge masvidal even had 2 fights ) i could watch.. It wasnt all out, it was much like kick boxing rules . they even had a dude ref the fight and give standing 10 counts. They even give each other props afterwards. kimbo is Def not a bad person as alot of people do think.

Not really looking forward to this season, it will be more like an episode of The Hills than a MMA reality show. Rampage has allready been a coach, and I would rather listen to German talk radio than listen to Rashad.

Looks like they do intend to use him to attract viewers…

Just to let everyone know. Its been leaked out that kimbo has already made the final round in ultimate fighter 10.
He wont even fight in the first show, possibly the first 2.
They are using him to attract viewers obviously.
But to all you haters, HES IN THE FINAL ROUND ! ! ! ! !
The media is who brags kimbo up…not him…so blame the media.
his own words. " im just a small squirl in a big world trying to find a nut " . . . The media is who braggs him up. Hes humble.
I respect kimbo. He never had to fight again. He signed that million dollar deal with tapout…BUT STILL WANTS TO FIGHT..that just shows his love . . and thats why i respect him
