Chris Lytle 'wasn't that hurt' by Kevin Burns at TUF 9 Finale (Video)

It was odd to see the iron-chinned "Lights Out" dimmed last night, but he says it wasn't that serious:

Marcus Davis, the self proclaimed most exciting fighter, should take notes from Chris Lytle. If you promise the fans that you are going to stand toe to toe the entire time….Deliver!

everyone claims that they will stand toe to toe the entire time, yet the only fighters that truly do this are Lytle and Wanderlie….Happy to see that both those warrior keep collecting bOnus money for laying it al on the line for our entertainment!

man that over hand right that started the 3rd was so huge…..and all you see is a huge cut open at the same time it was awesome

John, I actually thought about your glowing tribute to Wannderlie on this site as I watched Lytle’s fight. While it’s true Lytle’s career pales in comparison to Wanderlie’s, they both are all about delivering for the fans. Gatekeeper is a term typically used as a put down for fighters, and Lytle can be legitimately called one, however in Lytle’s case it is a term he should be called with great respect attached. He fights an exciting, high risk style yet nobody finishes him. Factor in that he’s fought an impressive list of people and that he works a “regular job”, and it’s all damn impressive.

absolutely CL!!! Lytle is a gate keeper in a good way!!!!!! Stand up guy, very entertaining BANGER!

You have to love that kind of an attitude! It was fun watching the fight and if thats going to be his gameplan for future fights, win or lose it will end up being exciting, and thats what all fans want to see!

Lytle has awesome recovery. I thought he was goin out but I guess all those years in boxing has conditioned him to be able to come back like that. He was also way more technical in the later rounds than what I usually see out of him in the 3rd round.

i must be crazy but it looked like lights out taped in the first round to strikes

by wolfe on Jun 21, 2009 12:16 PM EDT reply actions

Now that you mention it… I thought the same thing. I actually stood up when it happened but when the fight wasn’t stopped I assumed I misread it.

by DJ on Jun 21, 2009 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Thought I saw that too, but also dismissed it when the fight kept going. But one thing I KNOW I saw was each and every one of Lylte’s punches coming from a mile away. How has that guy made it this far as a “stand and bang” striker when he has no technique whatsoever? Great chin, great heart, but WTF learn to box bro!

joe rogan said it best during the fight he draws fighters to fight his fight

by JG on Jun 21, 2009 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Wat do u mean learn to box the style that he has suits him very well. He broke Burns mentally by the 2nd round which is something that AJ couldn’t in their fights. If you’ve ever sparred you’d know that it’s actually very difficult/intimidating when somebody is trying to knock your head off with every single shot. It’s much easier to counter typical combinations because you deal with them all the time

by Jye on Jun 22, 2009 2:58 AM EDT up reply actions

He did tap i said the same thing.

curious to see how he would fair vs. Anthony Johnson

by wm133 on Jun 21, 2009 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

lytle would get destroyed against AJ. he’s a tough dude, but his punches aren’t nearly powerful enough to finish a guy like johnson. eventually, he would ‘get caught’ by one of johnson’s bombs, unless he could find a way to taking it to the ground.

by spitforce on Jun 21, 2009 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Johnson is an excellent wrestler as well as a dangerous striker. Lytle would never be able to take him down.

by PW on Jun 21, 2009 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

lytle would never even try to take him down so i dont see ur point

by JG on Jun 21, 2009 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Well if you read the entire thread and not just my comment you would see that right above my comment Spitforce said that Lytle’s only chance against Johnson would be to take him to the ground.

by PW on Jun 21, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I disagree; I give Lytle 50/50 in that fight; AJ is powerful and can KO someone, but so can Lytle; and as far as experience goes the edge is by far Lytle’s. I would definatley love to see a fight between the two though, if AJ beats Lytle then he needs a fight with Swick, Kos or Fitch next imo.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 22, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

lytle has 49 fights in mma and has never gotten ko’d or submitted, he only has 2 tko losses and they were both from cuts….I like AJ as much as the next person but chris lytle just beat the shit outta kevin burns and AJ never looked that great against him aside from a headkick. I was so damn pissed when aj got hurt and couldnt fight matt brown….it woulda been the 4th fight of the night last night lol

by JG on Jun 21, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

this is why chris lytle will always have a job in the UFC. those body shots made me wince everytime. full power in every punch.

by JB on Jun 21, 2009 10:46 PM EDT reply actions

Chris says he “wasn’t that hurt.” I would disagree. He was hurt, we all could see it, but being the seasoned fighter he is he knew how to weather the storm.

by DJ on Jun 22, 2009 6:30 AM EDT reply actions

Agreed. He even stumbled walking over to his corner after the round was over. You could tell he got his bell rung! Good for Chris for surviving the round and getting the victory.
