Clay Guida: Farewell Diego, you're headed back to welterweight

Props: USA Today
Quoteworthy:
"I'm going to make him want to go back to welterweight once I'm done with him. It's that simple. There's not room for two of us in this weight class ... he's not going to be able to stop my takedowns. He's not going to be able to stop my striking ... I think I'm one of the only fighters that can contend with (BJ Penn)..."
A very confident Clay Guida plans to usurp the guaranteed 155-pound title shot from Diego Sanchez when they clash in the main event of tonight's Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 Finale on June 20. "The Carpenter" already has back-to-back wins over former TUF champions Nate Diaz and Mac Daniz, can he make it three straight with a victory over "Nightmare" a little later this evening?

He sounds less douchey than Diego who is already looking past him.
I can’t wait to see him smother Diego….

lol.
Fighters are so confident, maybe over confident. He thinks he is going to destroy Diego and he isn’t even close to being the favorite.
Just like Rashad Evans last time, people need some humbling before they start to respect all opponents in this sport.

That’s some of your best Photoshop work to date. And just who in the hell does Huggie think he is? A contender? No sir. You, Huggie, will continue to be the butt of all dry-humping man-love jokes. You are going to get clowned. And pwned. That would mean you will be clpwned, and there isn’t much worse than that, believe you me.

I just dont like this guy. Everything he says is just annoying. I dont just mean the standard pre fight talk. But stuff like “There’s not room for two of us in this weight class”…what does that even mean? Did you go to WWE school of pre fight banter?
You prat.

You’re right. It is MMA and anything can happen. And you’re right about all the Guida hate. People are just still butt hurt on his win over Diaz.

Sure Guida has a chance to win but there is almost no chance he will win in the dominating fashion he is speaking of. His stand up is limited and his huggy bear style leads to decisions.

THE problem for Guida is that he doesn’t possess a skill dangerous enough to put Diego in fight-ending danger. Guida clearly has a tredendous motor and is a top end grappler, but his striking will not put worry into Diego. This means for Guida to win vs the elite of the division, he must resort to, and execute perfectly a gameplan which most of us hate to watch.
While this is MMA and surprises happen, I expect a decision with Guida fighting gamely, but with Diego doing most of the damage and getting the W. Just my opinion, but if this is how it plays out, Diego needs another win vs a top 5 talent to deserve a title shot.

Oh man, 8pm cannot get here soon enough. Guida is going to go for a big ol hug and eat a knee.

Guida is on that bad dope.

They do drug test Guida don’t they? Because that BJ Penn statement is simply ludicrous. He’s got energy. He doesn’t quit. But he also when faced with a better fight doesn’t do anything but hang on for dear life.
