Wandy could lose 10 fights in a row as long as he keeps putting on the shows that he does. Dana will always have him back. He goes out and bangs for 3 rounds (except Jardine) and always gives 100%. Not one of my favorite fighters, but I respect the hell out of his style.

he gassed out pretty quick i think it’s because it would have been a better camp to train during germany time insted of USA time.. because you need your body to adjust to the time..
W.Silva will still headline against anyone-ANYTIME!!

this fight was really close…
when i first watched the fight i had franklin 29/28 for the win..
i have now watched the fight about 10 more times and everytime except the first time, i give the fight to wand 29/28 winning rounds 1 and 3…
all i know for sure is, i would love to see a rematch..if this fight was 5 rounds we would get a clear cut winner~..no doubt!!

superfights like that should always be 5 rounds!!
ie, wand/chuck~ franklin/hendo~

Your right stinky but unfortunately it can’t happen…unless we see change of regulations in a few years but I doubt it.
Awesome vids…Wands, will be with us for at least 5 more years.I am,so glad to hear him be,so dedicate to fighting and like he said recycling himself for the new MMA.
I will always be a fan till the end.
WAR WAND

Actually, this would be possible. They would only need to make the fight for a “superfight title” and it could be five rounds.

THere needs to be a freaking National Holiday dubbed, Wanderlei Silva Day! what a great person. I dont recall ever seeing a fighter make a video blog with the sole intention of thanking his bosses, trainers and especially his fans! This guy truly cares about our support…and he deserves every ounce of support that he gets! I am honestly speechless after watching that 1st video. I would honestly DONATE a kidney to wanderlei if he needed it…tHIs guy puts OUR enjoyment OVER EVERYTHING else, including winning, and I have to respect and thank him for all the memorable moments in his AMAZING career!
I honestly dont think he is even close to being done. LIke he said, he is presently evolving to become successful in the new era of mma….and I really think that he is going to put it all together VERY SOON and go on a tear at middleweight!
I hope to one day get the opportunity to see him fight live! He deserves to have me screaming for him at the top of my lungs from the time he is introduced til the time his fight ends! I really wish we could figure out a way to give back to wanderlei for litteraly shedding BLOOD for US!!! THis guy along with Nogueira are IMO the 2 greatest WARRIORS to have ever put on a pair of mma gloves. tHey might not go down in history as the very Best fighter, but they will be up there for sure, and NO one in the sport has shown more heart than those 2!
This site should figure out a way to give back to wanderlei and show him our appreciation! at the very least…Mania you should do anything in your power to get an interview with wanderlie, and tell him to sign onto this site 3 hours after his interview is posted so he could see the love and support that we feel for him…..THere isnt a fighter alive that deserves our support more, and there probably isnt a fighter alive that would appreciate it as much as Wanderlei!
Win or Lose, I will always dish out $45 to watch and support wanderlei Silva! Wandy, you are always in my heart and you will go down in history as a legend, and generations to come will all know of the legend of wanderlie!
MOthaFOCKING WAR Wanderlei!

yeah 5 rounders for superfights! It’s like playing 5-sets in the grand slams in tennis… they’re at the top of the sport and should be ready for that!
I would have loved if Tito fought Machida in a 5 rounder..

Great post John, and I like your idea of doing something for Wand to show our fan support. The guy really is in it for the fans; I don’t see how anyone could root against Wandi in a fight, he’s a true warrior and a great person in and outside of the cage. I love the fact that he wants to fight more often and I can’t wait for his MW debut. For all the Wandi fans out there like myself, there is still more to look forward to, Wandi is far from done!

thanks alpha and Odamn, and I completely agree O Damn!
I really believe that he is very close to going on a TEAR! Middleweights need to watch out! Very little doubt in my mind that wanderlei will be fighting for the middleweight title, by the end of 2010!
by JOhn G on Jun 18, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think wanderlie should start off with a top 11-20 middleweight, then fight a top 10-7 middleweight…assuming he wins those fights, then its time for the rubber match between Hendo and Wanderlie…if he beats Hendo…time for a title shot!

john there’s been fighters with as much heart as Wanderlei, fighting without defense is stupid and nothing to be seen as something good… I like and respect how you guys support him, but man he looked just the same in this fight as in all of his other fights, only reason he didn’t get knocked out is because Franklin didn’t dare to go for it and he didn’t have to anyways!
by RoB on Jun 18, 2009 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Rob your blind, you act like Rich dominated the fight and completely destroyed Wand; which is definatley not the case. Rich won a decision and a very close one at that; there’s no shame in losing to a guy thats only been beaten by A. Silva, Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson.
“he looked just the same in this fight as in all of his other fights”
Thats a pretty bad assessment of the fight;
There was definatley a difference in how he approached the fight, he came in patient, picking his shots, got a nice TD and tried to work some GnP from top position. He is definatley moving in the right direction and I liked what I saw out of him Saturday night. The only thing that he was lacking was maybe the cardio, and that could have been the over training or the weight cut, or maybe both. But thats nothing that can’t be fixed.
“fighting without defense is stupid and nothing to be seen as something good”
Horrid quote, you completely misunderstand the reason people love Wand. Its cause he gets after another fighter and tries to finish them. He genuinly does not want to settle for a decision win. He does not fight without defense, he fights aggressivly and it’s just common sense when you throw a punch wether it lands or not, there’s always an opening for your opponent to counter.
Don’t understand how you can knock this guy at all; he went up against a world class former champ and took him to very tough decision; rocking him and almost putting him away in the process. To say that he doesn’t have a future at MW or to imply that he’s “stupid” because of his style of fighting is pretty ignorant considering the guys resume. Only time will tell but my guess is by the end of ‘09 you’ll be eating crow.
by O damn he got caught on Jun 18, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I completely disagree, Rob. Wanderlei chose his spots to attack in this fight; he wasn’t as reckless as before. (Actually, in this fight, it may have helped him if he were more aggressive.)
Obviously he’s not suddenly going to be a completely different fighter. Like Wanderlei said in the video, he’s transitioning to a style that is better suited for MMA today. With his work ethic, I think we’ll see an improved Wanderlei make a run at the MW title.

Wanderlei cut 12 lbs the day before the fight or weighins? Something like that’, he gassed a little IMO because of it. I also think he’s going to have a tough time competing against Xtreme Couture’s Gym, he’s got a big leg up on Wanderlei’s Gym.
by DAVE A on Jun 18, 2009 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know why people love Wanderlei it’s because he’s a “killer” and I noticed that he was more patient this time but when he finally came in i saw his hands go down and the punches were wide left-right-left-rights, I mean atleast i would want to see some changes even if this was a step in the right direction by not getting ko’d and taking it to a decision..
he just reminds me of Chuck Liddell alot, but we’ll see maybe MW is the right weightclass for him..

Odamn and AT: those were two Fantastic and accurate posts!
rob: I love you buddy, but some times I am baffled by you. Sometimes you write some of the best posts and then other times you sound like that idiot JV lol!
yOU know why we love wanderlei…because he GENUINELY cares that we get our money’s worth when we all pay money to see him fight. He cares more about your entertainment then he does of winning. when he promises and exciting fight he DELIVERS IT!!!
YOU really confuse me at times. He love Tito, yet all he does is waste your money. he promises the most entertaining fights, and NEVER delivers half of the hype….Yet wand backs up everything he says, and thats not good enough for you?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But this isnt even a matter of opinion. Its a FACT that wanderlie is one of the most entertaining fighters to ever lace up a pair of gloves and the sport has NEVER seen more of a WARRIOR!!!!
by JOhn G on Jun 18, 2009 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hold up John! It’s more than good enough for me to get to see Wand perform, I’m only talking about what’s best for him and what he should do better..
Me personally care more about who the person is than what he does or how he fights, and that’s why i love Tito, Rampage, Diego and those kinda guys i like Wand too how could you not if ur a fan of the sport..
Alpha: I know you were joking Wand is clearly more dangerous than Tito is in the standup! but Tito does have pretty tight defense and that’s something that shouldn’t be overlooked when it comes to striking..
by RoB on Jun 18, 2009 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If i ever said that Wand was boring, I’d let you punch me in the face as hard as you could John..
by RoB on Jun 18, 2009 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
They should put him in with Leban just for the entertainment value of the fight. Wandi likes to go in there and just bang so does Leban, even though I did enjoy the Franklin fight, this would definately be more entertaining. Styles make fights, this would definately be a good one.

I never used to be a fan of wandi because of the chuck build up, but now i respect the hell out of him!! He has won me over as a fan, and is without doubt the most exciting fighting currently in the ufc (assuming chuck is retiring).
Got to love his love for the fans and his work ethic, if he becomes a smarter fighter then he has a long future in the ufc ahead, i dont fancy many in the 185 div over wandi!!
Good luck wandi!!

stinky, we finally agree on something, wandy is the epitome of a warrior, if you dont respect the fuck out of this guy, you should become a fan of bowling or darts or kaleb starnes. as long as he can stand and bang, i dont give a shit if he wins or loses. keep the warriors in the game

I think Wanderlie should realize that his style of fighting is bad for his career and health. He sounds a little slow in speech already. He should think about slowing down during his fights and use some form of strategy to win the fights and not rely on his KO power. Im sorry to say this but Anderson Silva is not the same guy that Wandy used to spar with 6 years ago. Anderon has evolved into a very efficient striker. Wandy is going to get his ass handed to him By silva if he ever gets up there in the rankings.
by Danny_c on Jun 18, 2009 9:29 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah think he needs to retire before he ends up like ali. How many fights has he lost now? like 6 out of the last 7? Its time for dana, to put him and chuck out to pasture.
by dtoto on Jun 18, 2009 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I thought his takedown(s) were pretty slick. I think if he would have utilized his ground skills more he could have made this decision go his way. He seemed to own Franklin on the ground for the little time he had them there. I guess he’s weighing out the “entertainment” value vs the actual win at this point in his career, so mhe stands and trades. I suppose if he keeps everyone excited, so what if he wins.

What excuses did he make?? At least watch the video before you start harping on the guy. Wanderlei is a true fighter and an awesome person. He made no excuses, he thought he did well and made some improvements and is looking to improve his game further and do better the next fight. He said he wants to fight more often and he thanked all his fans, the fertita’s and the UFC and thats about it. All in all, great videos; and I can’t wait to see him back. He’ll go down a legend regardless anyway, the most viscious fighter to ever step into a ring/cage.

okay….so who’s next for wandi @ middleweight? it has to be a middle of the road guy, right? anything above that will prob be another loss. i’m also a little worried about the weight cut. he looked worn out @ 195
by E.Mac on Jun 18, 2009 10:10 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah. he did looked a bit gassed from the cut. though he wouldn’t admit it, i think he must have been worn down a fair bit from the cut. rogan was saying that he had to drop 12 pounds the day before weigh in. but he never stopped coming, which impressed me, so he didnt gas right out. i think if he gets his training regimen and weight cut down to a science you might not see that kind of exhaustion in later fights. maybe he needs to talk to frankin and get some tips from him about how he cut weight at 185. rich had it down and never gassed. and he is a much bigger man.
by Hardcase on Jun 18, 2009 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Everyone is saying his style doesn’t suit modern mma…I think his problem is he’s not using his style! If he’d kept the pressure on, used his thai clinch more, it seems like he’d have run through Ace. He seemed tentative against Liddel as well.
But I’m just a random jackass, I’m sure Wanderlei knows more then I do by far.
by Jon on Jun 18, 2009 10:20 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
he’s got a fair bit of gas left in the tank i’d say. and other than his losses to anderson and machida, franklin only dropped that one close decision to hendo, and he is claiming that he was hurt a bunch of times and that wand could sure as hell make some noise at 185 with his power and aggression. i think at this point anderson would pick him apart, but if he tightens up his game and does what he says in the vid, and acclimates to a more technical style for portions of the fight, he could definitely make some noise at 185 and surely has more than a few ridiculous battles waiting for him there.
and yes, i was outright a liddell fan over wand before. but he’s won me over big time since his UFC return. like chuck he’s a born fighter. but unlike chuck, he can still threaten some top contenders. as proven in the franklin fight.
by Hardcase on Jun 18, 2009 11:15 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I love the guy and don’t want to see him get hurt. I also don’t want him to become the next Mark Coleman or Ken Shamrock. The difference between him and these guys is his heart and dedication and that’s exactly what I’m afraid will make him keep fighting into a really old age, taking more punishment and losing more fights.
I pray this is not the case, but seeing how passionate he is about fighting, it’s pretty scary.

would like to think that Wand has had extensive medical screenings and has been cleared to keep fighting by doctors that really know what they are doing, because I really care about Wand’s health even more than my desire to see him fight more exciting epic wars.
He did lose a close fight with Liddell but you can you really call it a loss when it was the fight of the year.
Wand proved that he still has it against Franklin. I’m just not sold on the fact that he can cut the weight at 185. I think he would still do well at 205 except against Rampage (again) Lyoto, and possibly Evans may be too fast for him. I think Wand would destroy Vera, Hamill, Thiago Silva, and Sardine again.
