All is well on the Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping 'douche bag' front

"I don’t know. He likes to talk a lot. He is an alright guy a very good fighter and a tough person. I think it was a result of some of the things that happened on the show or just being together that long. I don’t dislike him at all. Calling him a douche bag doesn’t mean I hate him or anything approaching that."
-- The consummate professional, Dan Henderson, responds on today’s UFC media call to promote the The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 Finale, to why he called Michael Bisping a douche bag on last night’s episode of the Spike TV mixed martial arts reality series. Bisping didn't seem bothered by the remarks, saying, "I have always respected him as fighter and respected him as a person. That isn’t the first time someone has called me a douche bag and I doubt it’s going to be the last. I didn’t lose too much sleep over that." It seems as if the coaches are now playing nice with UFC 100 -- where "Hollywood" and "The Count" are booked to throwdown on July 11 -- less than four weeks away. Grudge match it isn't like seasons past. Will the pair do enough talking inside the Octagon on fight night or is this 185-pound contest destined to be a disappointment? I would like to see Dan win, but I have money on Bisping since his original odds were +300 which wasn’t giving him enough credit. I guess I either win money or get to see Bisping taken down a notch. I win either way I suppose.

12 months ago I would have said Dan would smash him but I think we are seeing an improved Bisping and a slightly older Hendo which I think has weighed the odds in Bispings favour.
It will be a good fight its just that they’re not people to trash thier opponent and prefer to talk in the cage.
Hendo needs to push the action if he wants to win and overwhelm him and make sure he is in great shape cos I don’t see Bisping getting tired very easily.
Bisping by UD.

wow a lot of people thinking bisping will win!!!
i’ll add to that and say bisping UD
this fight should be good dan will be head hunting in this fight and bisping will try and out box hendo
i think the only way hendo wins is if he gets the clinch on bisping and takes him down …. i dont think he is going to win with the big right hand he has i think bisping is good enough to avoid that just like he avoided leben’s big left hand

I’m not happy to say he will win. But I will give the douche his props. He has very fast hands and although I don’t see KO power, I see him taking the fight to Dan and Hendo will simply run out of steam.

I can defintiely see why people would throw some cash down on Bisping with those odds but I see Hendo outworking Bisping for 3 rounds and really frustrating the brit. I hate Bisping as a person…he’s worse than a douche bag…he’s an enema bag.

I really dont get why people dislike Bisping as a person! I have always enjoyed his personality. I think he has one of the best personalities in the sport, and is by far one of the most under rated fighters out there!
Buster: Imo, I think Bisping is going to be the one to outwork his opponent en route to a Unanimous Decision win!
Bisping gets better and better each day, Henderson gets older and declines each day…U dudes need to get used to seeing Bisping fighting against top MIddleweights because he is turning into a helluva fighter!

It’s pretty hard to deny that Michael “the Cunt” Bisping is a grade-A douchebag. But at least his face doesn’t look like it was flattened with a shovel. Henderson’s head seriously looks like an anvil from the side.

Sarah, this fight isn’t part of the Finale, it’s scheduled for UFC 100 on the July 11th. Totally agree though, Bisping standing and Dan on the ground. :-)
by Jeremyjackson on Jun 18, 2009 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Bisping’s arrogance occasionally grates, but his high level motivation and overall confidence/arrogance is what has got him to this levelof success. Henderson has been a warrior his whole career, but I’m not sure he has enough left to overcome what Bisping will bring. Bisping will fight tactically and stay away from Henderson’s right hand. I expect Henderson to look to close the distance, dirty box and go for takedowns, but I’ve been impressed over time with Bisping’s ability to scramble, avoid damage and out-stamina his opponents. I’m pulling for Henderson, and don’t find Bisping’s style exciting to watch really, but my gut tells me Bisping will eek out a decision. Hope I’m wrong. Lately I’ve had decent success picking the quicker, more athletic fighter to win, and in this fight I believe that will be Bisping.

Bisping is gonna get pinned to the cage and smashed with right hands. You guys saw the way hendo controlled rampage on the wires. Then clinch TD for some LNP with occasional bombs to cruise into a workmanlike UD.

I was really impressed with Dan on the show. He seems like a really good guy. I disagree that he’s dull. He’s being himself, not dull but just relaxed and cool. It’s better that he didn’t try to change who he was just to be appealing on the show.
I think he had good reason to call Bisping a douche bag because Bisping comes across as arrogant and is highly competitive and wouldn’t have wanted to be a pushover to anyone. His arrogance didn’t gel with Dan’s relaxed nature. So of course, from Dan’s perspective, like when they disputed who would get the early morning session, Dan was peaceful, letting Bisping know politely what he wanted, whereas Bisping was trying to tell Dan how it is because he didn’t want to be told what to do himself.
But he believes in himself and is open about it. Why is that such a bad thing? He’s never been really spiteful unless he’s felt provoked (excluding the post-fight interview after he fought Matt Hamill; he was a bit hard on him I admit).
I think Bisping is easy to hate because he’s a pom for one, but also because he’s highly competitive and is as arrogant as he seems, but not in a I’m-better-than-you, supercilious kind of way.
I think they’re both awesome fighters and good guys. I’ll be sad to see one of them lose.
by Johnny Farnham on Jun 19, 2009 4:07 AM EDT up reply actions
P. S. I thought I better let you know that I have nothing against poms, I meant that it seems to be that to a lot of Americans it’s one minor reason to dislike him due to the competitive nature of the show — US vs UK — and that typical, universal contention between opposing countries in sport.
by Johnny Farnham on Jun 19, 2009 4:11 AM EDT up reply actions
I remember someone posting something from Bisping about how they edeit the programme to basically show him as an @sshole and Dan as the good guy. He said there are quite a few things that they leave out and he did fill in the gaps. So when you think he is being arrogant as you put it or a douche bag, there is definately another side to the story.
by Ade on Jun 19, 2009 4:45 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, well, I think it’s a given that the show is drastically condensed. It has to be. But what I was saying is that his level of arrogance, to me, is perfectly acceptable. I’m not basing my opinion of him on the show alone either.
I like Bisping just as he is. I have no problem with him.
by Johnny Farnham on Jun 19, 2009 5:14 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeh Bisping said that they had a big argument over who wanted the early training slot at the start of the show, but this was not shown.
Bisping was willing to let Dan have that early slot but was then not happy to let Dan bend him over when Dan wanted to change.
Bisping stood up for himself and looked like the douche, I think Dan probably got the reaction he wanted from Bisping. Dan’s been in this game a long time and knows how to play the game before the fight starts without overstepping the line.
by MoonUK on Jun 19, 2009 5:36 AM EDT up reply actions
Mike annoyed me tremendously with his antics after the Hamill robbery. I can honestly say that he was the only fighter that I ever truly disliked (besides Lesnar maybe). But that’s in the past, and he really seems like a nice enough guy. I don’t believe he’s a douche.

On the other hand Hendo was way more stiff than I thought he should be and he have zero charisma.

Bisping has the speed, Hendo has the power. Bisping will outpoint Hendo in a striking match[‘cuz like Forrest, he can’t bussa’ grape, LOL], but if Bisping gets clipped, even just once, he’s gonna get rocked, and Hendo could either knock him out with his 1-punch power, or he could teke him down and pound him out. The funny thing is that DeMarques and Bisping have similar personalities.
Its interesting to see which one Maniacs “like as a person.”

Similar personalities? Hardly. Even if that were so, they’re still two different people.

by OJR on Jun 19, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions
I suppose so . . . if you only count two traits and disregard the other thousand (figuratively speaking).
by Johnny Farnham on Jun 19, 2009 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, literally speaking, due to the editing of the show the two constant variables present were the two aforementioned traits by said fighters.
Hence, even with the possibility of a thousand traits (figuratively speaking) most human beings play up one or two traits to convey a certain character when in front of a TV camera.
To further advance my theory I present the classic archtypes : easy going dude, nice guy, mental case, traitor guy, curmudgeon, happy guy, tough guy, no talent but all heart guy, cocky jerk, etc.
I humbly present the case that both DeMarques and Bisping are two of a kind despite the obviousd fact that both are two wholly separate individuals.
:)
by OJR on Jun 19, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, and supercalafragalisticexpielladocious. (Wow, look what I did?)
Well, according to your arbitrary and conveniently fabricated “constant variables,” Bisping must have a similar personality to Demarques and have a similar personality to Andre Winner and have a similar personality to David Faulkner and have a similar personality to Cameron Dollar and have a similar personality to Dana White because they all have evinced a semblance of a similar trait at one time or another.
Moreover, your classic archetypes could easily be attributed to almost anyone depending on how you spin it and define it. In that case you could easily attribute Hendo’s personality to being similar to Big Bird’s because he was friendly and supportive or to Eeyore’s because he was reticent and laid back.
To “convey a certain character when in front of a TV camera” doesn’t mean two wholly different people should be suddenly fused together or categorized as having a similar personality just because they’ve displayed a similar emotion or trait.
Finally, since we’re talking of variables, the whole fact of the matter is that it’s subjective opinion; some people hate Bisping because they think he’s a jerk and some like him because they can see there’s more to him than just a “certain character in front of a TV camera.”
by Johnny Farnham on Jun 19, 2009 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions
“Well, according to your arbitrary and conveniently fabricated "constant variables,"”
—- I didn’t fabricate this, the TV show did. Reality shows skew just as much as anything else.
“Moreover, your classic archetypes could easily be attributed to almost anyone depending on how you spin it and define it.”
No, that’s why they are classic archetypes. Watch generic action movies or badly written books. The idea will eventually dawn on you.“Finally, since we’re talking of variables, the whole fact of the matter is that it’s subjective opinion; some people hate Bisping because they think he’s a jerk and some like him because they can see there’s more to him than just a "certain character in front of a TV camera."”
An audience cannot possibly know anything OTHER than what’s presented in front of a camera. What was presented is/was the classic cocky guy for Bisping. Same thing with DeMarques. You chose to like Bisping and not DeMarques.
That’s your choice but don’t use the “nobody really knows him” argument for Bisping and conveniently drop it for DeMarques.
Its inconsistent.
BTW, this is how you deconstruct an argument.
Have a good day and stay in school.
by OJR on Jun 19, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions
LOL — I knew you would have to resort to the ol’ “stay in school you teenager” kind of remark. It’s the perennial contingency for those who have nothing of substance to submit.
“don’t use the "nobody really knows him" argument for Bisping and conveniently drop it for DeMarques.”
WTF? READ WITH YOUR EYES OPEN. I didn’t use the “nobody really knows him argument” (whatever that is). Again, another oversimplification by OJR.
You set the parameters, you molded the archetypes how you wanted and fused whichever ones seemed convenient to you. Which pretty much sums up the result of our entire discussion, and I’ll say it again: subjective-frickin-opinion — you infer based on what you saw that Bisping and Damarques have similar personalities because they are both loud-mouthed and arrogant; whereas I infer that this is too simple a foundation to warrant the conclusion that they have similar personalities because there are additional traits, actions and variables that make up their personas. Though they have expressed a similar mannerism at one time or another — they ARE both human beings after all — this is not enough to conclude that their whole personalities should be so recklessly defined and fused together as being similar and put into the same category to be labeled as having “similar personalities.”
To make it simple for you: I don’t think they have similar personalities; you do.
by Johnny Farnham on Jun 19, 2009 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions
MAn if Bisping wins we have to hear that annoyingly arrogant(with no credabilty to back it up) ass takl even more crap. Other then the speed I do not see Bispings advantage. He lacks KO power, he has only 1 fight against any kinda top tier fighter(I strongly believe that RAshad EVans now would eat Bisping for Breakfast) which he lost-though I will admit it could have gone either way, and he walks around talking like he already beat every top ten fighter out there and he has the belt. I understand being a fighter and needing that arrogance(I played sports and competed in Karate tournaments a good portion of my childhood and teen years) but you can be arrogant without being a prick. I love british humor even and his sense of talking smack just erks the crap out of me. Everytime he opens his mouth, I want to shove a tennis ball in his mouth and duct tape it shut…I like Hendo in this with a U/D, but there is nothing I would love more then to see that overhand connect, and turn the lights off in Britain.

dan has been my favorite fighter for a while now but i think he has lost a step like most of the pride fighters, sadly. i wish the ufc had acquired pride a few years ago because these so called “super fights” have lost some of their luster and would have been much bigger back then. i hope dan wins so he can shut bisping’s big mouth and get another shot at silva. then i hope he retires and solidifies his spot as one of mmas greatest.
and also dana stop being so greedy and let your fighters compete in other organizations before the fights we want to see happen vanish…you don’t need to become a monopoly!

ironic really, considering all the whining and crying from the US guys when the last fight was over.

Obviously he is a deuche bag if you watched the show its clear he says stupid stuff almost non stop and is very annoying.
Hes gotta be the king of dishing it out but cant take it.
But all that matters is what happens in the ring.
Knock his ass out please Dan.
