Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida (155-pound limit)

Round one: Guida and Sanchez come out swinging like animals!!!! Sanchez lands an uppercut and Guida could be hurt, and now their throwing at an amazing pace!!! Sanchez with a big knee and another uppercut. These guys are insane. Guida ducks under and gets the take down and survives the initial onslaught from Sanchez. Sanchez did some serious damage and Guida was bleeding from his nose that was the most ridiculous exchange to start a fight ive ever seen in my life. Guida now in full guard controlling Sanchez on the mat. Diego is now bleeding from the nose. Sanchez is up and now their separated. Guida could have a broken nose its gushing blood. Sanchez with a HUGE head kcik and hes hurt bad but somehow hes back up. Flying knee from Sanchez and he is dominating the standup. Hes landing some vicious uppercuts now. Guida goes for a single. Their clinched up against the fence. Diego now gets a take down and is in half guard. Elbow from Sanchez. Guida back to his feet. Right from Diego and thats the bell, a SICK PACE AND SICK ACTION. Sanchez is dominating and doing serious serious damage with vicious striking but Guida has a granite chin I thought he was out about 4 different times already.

Round two: Head kick from Sanchez misses. Inside leg kick from Sanchez and Guida gets a single leg take down. Guida now on top in full guard. Hes needs to try and ride out the round here. Diego with some elbows from the bottom. High guard from Sanchez. Guida with a decent elbow. Sanchez looking for a kimura. Guida now raining down hammer fists. The crowd is chanting Guida and Guida tries to answer with some hammer fists. Elbow from Guida and now some hammer fists. Elbows from Diego from the bottom and they are landing with serious power. Rubber guard from Sanchez. Guida has Diego up against the cage. Sanchez with elbows and Guida is raining non stop hammer fists. Diego trying to climb up the cage but Guida is in control. Thats the bell, Guida wins that round by being on top the whole time but Sanchez still did serious damage with elbows from the bottom. This is an amazing amazing fight.

Round three: Great right left from Sanchez and Guida with a good counter right that stops diego in his tracks. Head kick from Sanchez. Nice right from Guida. Good left then uppercut from Sanchez and Guida goes for a leg but is shrugged off. 3 mins left. Nice right from Sanchez. HUGE right hook from Guida. Both guys exhnage rights. Big left from Diego and Guida with two bIG rights. Big left from Sanchez. Guida shoots and Diego gets his back briefly but Guida almost has it reversed. Guida is now on top and if he can ride it out for the round he has a shot to win. Guida now with some elbows and hammer fists. Sanchez going for a Kimura. Guida gushing blood. Guida escapes and is raining downs punches to finish the round. HOLY SHIT WHAT AN AMAZING FIGHT. Clay Guida somehow survived a 1st round where his face was almost obliterated. He was out on his feet about 4-5 times. Yet somehow he came back and won round two and could have very well won round 3 also. This should be an interesting decision, but I have to say this is one of the better fights ive seen in a very very very long time. The 1st two minutes of the 1st round alone was the best ive ever seen.

Final result: Diego Sanchez defeats Clay Guida via Split Decision

DeMarques Johnson vs. James Wilks (170-pound limit)

Round one: Johnson with a quick right. Wilks lands a big right left combo. Then he follows up with a good right and a knee to the chin. Both guys exchange jabs. Great left then right from Wilks and now hes landing big knees and right hook. Nice knee to the body from Johnson and now he goes for a take down but Wilks falls on top into full guard. Up kick from Johnson and now Wilks drops for a heel hook. Johnson now gets on top and is landing some big elbows and rights. Wilks again goes for a heel hook. Johnson is using hammer fists to try and get himself out. Johnson is out. Oma plata from Wilks but its loose and then a triangle and he has is almost locked in. Johnson slips out but hes still in a Oma Plata. Johnson slips out. Johnson to his feet now and Wilks has his back. Wilks trips him right back down to the mat. Wilks with one hook in now. Wilks now is going for a rear naked choke. Johnson is trying to keep his neck tucked. Wilks locks it in deep with only 10 seconds left!!! Johnson taps! WOW, with only 10 seconds left Johnson taps out instead of going to sleep. Wilks dominated.

Round two:
Round three:

Final result: James Wilks defeats Demarcus Johnson via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Round 1

-end-

Ross Pearson vs. Andre Winner (155-pound limit)

Round one: Pearson steps in with a weak combo but mostly just feeling for distance. Winner with a leg kick. Winner with a quick right. Pearson counters with a left. Leg kick from Pearson. Now their clinched against the fence and Winner with some knees to the thigh. Pearson with wrist control and now pushes Winner's back to the cage. Their still against the fence both seem to be canceling each other out due to similar styles. Good knees from Winner and then a nice elbow. Pearson briefly looks for a single but can cash it in. Nice elbow from Winner. Pearson with good knees to the body now. Pearson with a nice elbow. Pearson takes a knee to the balls and hes taking a moment. Winner with a good left and Pearson with a great combo and Winner with a double uppercut that lands flush. Winner with a knee from the clinch. Nice uppercut from Pearson. Nice body shot combo from Winner and then a good knee from Winner to finish the round. Extremely close but id give it to Winner for his last second flurry but it could go either way.

Round two: Leg kick from Pearson. Inside leg kick from Pearson, and then Pearson with a great right left combo. Pearson with a good knee from the clinch. Body shot from Pearson in the body clinch up against the cage. Knee to the body and now a single leg attempt from Pearson. Winner shrugs him off and lands an uppercut in the process. Knee tot he thigh from Winner. Nice elbow from Winner. Nice knee then uppercut from Pearson and Winner with an elbow over the top. Nice elbow from Winner again and they apart finally. Pearson with a weak knee attempt and nice leg kick from Pearson. Nice right from Pearson and then another right and knee to the body and Pearson again goes for the single leg take down but Winner stuffs it again. Their clinched up against a fence. Nice big elbow over the top from Pearson. Winner with a good combo and left to the body to end the round. Again its razor close, id give it to Pearson this time but Winner had the Octagon control for the majority of the round.

Round three: Final round and both guys knee to leave it all out there. Nice right hook from Pearson and Winner with a nice left hook. Pearson body clinches and their up against the cage again. Nice uppercut from Pearson. Another uppercut from Pearson. Again Pearson with the dirty boxing uppercut. Pearson with a knee and overhand elbow. Both guys exchange good right. Pearson with a good right then left and Winner lands a counter left. Winner now attempting a single leg take down. Pearson with a good uppercut and body shot. Knee from Pearson. Great leg kick form Pearson and Winner with a counter right. Knee to thigh and uppercut from Pearson. Pearson sucks in a single leg and briefly gets Winner down but hes right back to his feet. Left from Winner and Pearson lands a stinging left jab that hurts Winner. Winner tries to answer with a solid combo. Knee from Pearson from the body clinch and then an uppercut and big knee from Pearson and big uppercut from Pearson as the bell rings and Winner is hurt!!! Wow Pearson really turned it up and won that last round and did some damage in the process but the question is will the judges give him one of the 1st two rounds when Andre Winner had Pearsons back to the cage for almost the entire round which falls under the great grey area of judging we know as Octagon control.

Final result: Ross Pearson defeats Andre Winner via Unanimous Decision

-end-

Burns with a big uppercut and Lytle is hurt and Burns jumps all over it and is trying to finish but Lytle is hanging on to a single leg and trying to get his witts back about him. Great elbow from Burns and now Burns lands a big uppercut and another HUGE uppercut and Lytle is hurt and then he lands a big flying knee!!!! WOW great end to the round, Burns was loosing but stole it in the last minute with a barrage of powerful damaging shots.

Round two: Lytle with a BIG right hand to open it up and Burns is hurt!!!!! Lytle with another shot and Burns is hurt bad. Now Burns answers with an uppercut!! He seems to have his bearings back. Both guys are throwing bombs to close it out, and thats the bell. Great fight awesome stand up brawl, but Lytles rib shots proved to be the difference maker as Burns just had no gas left at the end on top of the huge gash Lytle opened up on his left eye.

Final result: Chris Lytle defeats Kevin Burns via Unanimous Decision

-end-

Joe Stevenson vs. Nate Diaz (155-pound limit)

john is right tibau’s take downs are super fast and explosive so guillard doesnt stand a chance once they are on the ground

if rich clementi can get guillard down and sub him then someone as fast and strong as tibau will have no problem

hahahahaa you guys overrate tibau, my boy guillard took it

by Jared on Jun 20, 2009 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe I over rate Tibau a little but probably more of a case of underestimating Melvin. Tibau isnt over rated, he is just young, but no doubt he will eventually become a contender

by Syn on Jun 18, 2009 12:29 AM EDT reply actions

My boy Guida takes it by UD!

enough with “huggie-bear” shit. The vast majority of his fights are fast pace, intense, exciting, and FOTN!

by SoCalStunNa on Jun 18, 2009 12:29 AM EDT reply actions

He only won FotN against exciting fighters. Tyson, Huerta, and Nate are all exciting fighters in their own right. THEY make the fight exciting.

by Syn on Jun 18, 2009 1:18 AM EDT up reply actions

So your saying one exciting fighter will make it FOTN??

It takes 2, brotha, and Guida always puts on a hell of a show. The tyson fight was about as close as it can be without going the other way and he was schooling Huerta before the knee.

Knock out power could go to Carwin.

best boxer. def not bj or rampage. bj out boxed sean sherk but so did franky edgar. rampage is flat footed with no head movement. i would say anderson silva is the best boxer based on footwork head movement a good jab and the ability to not get hit much. agree with most of the other picks except boring fighter grey maynard? come on man! right on with maia alves and gsp. #6 would have to be fedor

jajaja is very funny how people think that mma is just wrestling, judo, muai thai, boxing and bjj… thats why machida will win the next 8-10 fights, cause people think that if you learn those techniques you are a complete mix martial artist jajaja

by Ryosuke on Jun 20, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

ahahahahahahah its funny how people think that machida uses nothing but karate to win his fights when almost none of his moves are taught in karate. The reason hes gonna win is because hes good in wrestling, judo, muay thai, boxing and bjj… he uses it all just with a karate approach kid.And thats why hes the only mma fighter who does karate that wins

Can Joe Stevenson deal with Nate’s size and reach?

by jorgen on Jun 20, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

I believe that Nate Diaz’s reach will be what decides this fight. Stevenson can put on a fight and hang with the best, we’ve seen him fight the best in LW, but I think this will be his end. His backs against the wall and he’s facing a massive (and ripped might I add) Nate Diaz. Diaz will be at the top of his game and you can expect him to utilize those long limbs of his to secure a triangle or rear naked choke for the W at some point tonight.

as for my choices I went 10-2 at 99 so I’m hoping for a good night tonight as well, I’ve only scuffed 2 Main Event fights this year so it will be interesting to see if i’m right.

How are Joe Daddy & Diaz not seperated once during the fight? Guess the game plan is to hump Diaz to a decision win. Lame.

by JTD on Jun 20, 2009 9:35 PM EDT reply actions

Stevenson looked pretty good, very dominating over Diaz. 29-28 unanimous would be my guess.

by Scuds on Jun 20, 2009 9:35 PM EDT reply actions

Oh shit. Joe just used huggy’s blueprint to a tee.

Very frustrating to watch. But I guess its what he had to do to neutralise Nate’s reach and stay close to to avoid the subs.

Everyone is gonna wanna do that now when they fight Nate. He’s gotta get himself some better TD defense or get very agressive with his subs.

by Ca$z on Jun 20, 2009 9:39 PM EDT reply actions

I’m with Ca$z here. Nate really needs to work on his TD defense. IMO Joe didn’t look that good he just stole the same gameplan that huggy used. Man I wish Nick would come to the UFC.

by rydinlow on Jun 20, 2009 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed. It would be good to see Nick back in the UFC but I think he likes to be able to fight a lot and wherever he can so he prefers being a free agent.

I think one day he will come back though. Especially if he keeps on winning as the best opponents for him are definately in the UFC.

by Ca$z on Jun 20, 2009 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

He was nothing like huggie bear. Guida is one of the inactive people on the ground ever. Joe was extremely active and was always going for something or trying to make something happen. Just because it’s not the on the feet doesn’t mean there isn’t some quality shit happening.

guyverbob said it perfectly. This site is infested with tuf noobs who know dick about grappling. You’d think after all this time people would actually have a clue about the ground game. Most of the people here need to stop watching mma and discover k1. To simplify things, it is like the ufc without the ground game. So… why don’t these tards watch k1? Seriously, “hugging” isn’t allowed.

Okay if you enjoy watching UFC and MMA and are not up on all the moves and so forth where can someone read/learn about all the different moves because it is almost like a second language understanding MMA and the strategies, moves, counters etc. I enjoy just reading all the posts but many times am just lost because I enjoy the fights as a spectator but would like to know what the language is. Any suggestions where to start? I just think MMA is the nuts and 10X more exciting than boxing which I watched for years. BTW keep up the great blog, its great to see/read all the posts!

Stevenson only won because he was hugging Nate Like Guida did. I am sick and tired of all these fighters that just win to score points instead of finishing a fight. Joe tap in the fight but no one is going to say shit about.

by The_Outlaw on Jun 20, 2009 11:41 PM EDT reply actions

Diaz brothers fans are the most hilarious to watch complain in mma. They are so hardcore and so ghetto, and if anyone beats them it’s by being “cheap”. Neither is top 10, and neither has ever been at any point in their career. Face the facts.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 21, 2009 12:05 AM EDT up reply actions

I am a fan of someone who fights to finish a fight and does not want to leave the fight to the judges hands. Diaz always has amazing fights maybe that is why he has had Fight of The Night honors in his last four fights. Is it so wrong to be from the ghetto just because I was not raise a silver spoon in my mouth like you. I have to earn everything and you just have to ask daddy for everything and not earn shit.

by The_Outlaw on Jun 21, 2009 2:28 AM EDT up reply actions

You really assumed a ton about me from that one post. Making fun of someone who thinks he is hardcore doesn’t mean I was born with a silver spoon. I’m not even sure what insult you are going for to be honest. That my parents weren’t uneducated failures who couldn’t provide for me? um… ok?

As far as the Stevenson/Diaz fight goes, it was a great display of technical grappling that Stevenson won. You believe Diaz won, because he’s “from the street” and you know dick about mma.

As far as having to earn everything goes, I spent 4 years in the military to earn my college education. I didn’t have shit handed to me. But I did something about it rather than get my ged and work as a roofer, all the while pissing and moaning while looking at the white collar workers who busted their ass getting where they are in life.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 21, 2009 2:38 AM EDT up reply actions

yohnstoppable, come on man. I didn’t see Joe tap so I can’t speak to that. Stevenson did employ the Guida strategy to beat Nate but he was desperate for a win so I can’t take it too seriously. Training at Jackson’s will be good for Joe however I worry that the “gameplan master” will make Joe fight like this too often. I thought Joe was more active than Guida was on top and def tried to GNP more. The real point here is that Nate has problems with wrestling. If he wants to stop losing fights like this then he needs to improve in that area.

Also, Nick is top 10 P4P in the world. He could come to the UFC and easily be top 5(probly top 3) at 170 lbs. Nick is the real deal. You say how you find Diaz fans funny, but you not giving a guy like him his due is just as entertaining to me. The guy is one of the best in the world on the ground and has very good boxing in an unconventional mma striking style. He doesn’t load up on every shot like most guys and that’s why he is so effective. He has been fighting for years and years and always comes to fight. If you don’t like his personality that is fine but he is an elite fighter in every sense of the word.

by Crowls on Jun 21, 2009 2:42 AM EDT up reply actions

“Nick is top 10 P4P in the world”

Wow… You know dick about mma. Diaz already fought in the ufc, and lost to the likes of Joe Riggs. He was also outstruck by Sean “t-rex arms” Sherk with his “very good boxing”. A good boxer does not get outboxed by sean sherk while having a HUGE reach advantage.

I still can’t get over top 10 p4p in the world. If you believe that, you need to find a new sport. Diaz is an extremely talented fighter, I’ll give you that. He is also an exciting fighter, so I’ll give you that one as well. but he is one of the worst gameplanners in mma. This is the same guy who was outstruck by Sherk and Riggs. He could have dominated both of those fights on the ground, but he thinks he’s Floyd Mayweather. He didn’t look like Mayweather when he got a gift vs Aina and an ass kicking at the hands of KJ Noons.

He wouldn’t in any stretch of the imagination be top 3 at 170 in the ufc. He couldn’t beat GSP, Alves, or Fitch in a million years.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 21, 2009 3:09 AM EDT up reply actions

He could beat Fitch….GSP and Alves, I’m not sure which is why I said top 3. Aside from the guys you named, name me someone else at 170 in the UFC who would beat him. Or at 170 in the world for that matter.

The ass kicking by noons???? He lost via a cut. and don’t give me the “noons was winning before the cut thing”. Nick has maybe the best chin in MMA and was going nowhere. He would have won that fight eventually if the cut didn’t stop it. That’s why Noons ducked the rematch.

The Sherk and Riggs fights were 3 years ago. Sherk has not progressed at all. I think Riggs is a better fighter now and would love to see that rematch, but Diaz is clearly better now in my estimation. I never called him Mayweather so I don’t know where you are getting that from. He’s got very good hands and uses his height/reach advantage well. Most MMA fighters load up on their punches and miss alot. He doesn’t throw everything with full power. He throws alot and lands alot and picks his spots to unload. That body shot that dropped shamrock comes to mind. You are out of your mind to think this kid isn’t the real deal. There’s a reason you only brought up GSP Alves and Fitch. You can’t with any confidence name me another welterweight in the world let alone the UFC that would beat him. There are guys that would give him a fight and for sure have a possiblity of winning a decision against him, but there is no way in hell anyone is submitting or KO’ing him. you say I need to find another sport. Get real brah, Diaz is legit.

by Crowls on Jun 21, 2009 3:39 AM EDT up reply actions

You said he was maybe top 3, so I picked 3 fighters who would beat him handily to show you are wrong. You are high as a kite if you think he has a chance in any of those fights.

Noons fight as a cut… um, no. It wasn’t “a” cut. He turned his face into hamburger meat. You can’t get dropped and pummeled to a bloody pulp then act like “it was only a cut”. Your face can take only so much punishment, and equating it to a lucky cut from an elbow (florian vs leben) is retarded. You can’t brush off that fight as just a cut, because Noons destroyed him. And that is what will always happen to Diaz when he faces someone with actual striking skill.

Diaz is clearly better based off what? His last 2 fights? He just fought an over the hill frank shamrock and a scott smith who couldn’t hang in the ufc. Neither fighter is even top 20.

As far as other fighters in the ufc 170 division who would beat him… Hughes, Koscheck, Hazelett, Kampman, Condit, Swick, Karo, Marcus Davis. As far as in the world goes, the ufc has a stranglehold on welterweights, but Mach Sakurai would have beaten him had that fight happened last year. If I’d list out where Diaz would stand, it would be somewhere around Lytle’s level. That said, Diaz never, ever lives up to his full potential. He lost 3 fights in a row to get booted from the ufc for a reason, and that is the overestimation of his boxing skills.

by yohnstoppable on Jun 21, 2009 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions

well, it looks like my reply never showed up. fighters in the ufc 170 division who would beat diaz…

hughes, karo, swick, condit, hazelett, kampman, davis. Not much to expand that to in the world, because the ufc has a stranglehold on welterweights, but mach sakurai would have beaten diaz easily had they fought last year.

Awesome fucking card. I had Diego 10-8 round 1, Diego 10-9 round 2 by doing more damage from the bottom, and Guida round 3 10-9 for a 29-27 diego decision. It was either that or a draw if you give Guida round 2.

that poor bastard got robbed imo. NO doubt round1 was 10-8. Round 2/3 aggression and oct. control kinda voided one another out. But guida stayed on top was throwing punches.. sanchez won that fight bc like rogan/goldie and others on here say. The judges see that blood pooring out and that is decisive in their minds. hopefully Ken flo will take out baby J and we will then see kenny pound on Diego.

They gave the split decision victory because there’s more money in protecting Sanchez than there is with Guida. Same exact thing happened with Parisyan over Stun Gun. Poor caveman got robbed.

by Balutvendor on Jun 21, 2009 12:11 AM EDT reply actions

How the hell did Caveman get robbed? Diego dominated rd 1. Round 2 even though Huggy was on top Diego did the most damage and round 3 was a draw till the end when Sanchez was on his back attempting submissions while Huggy was doing absolutely nothing. Score should of been 30-27 in favor of Diego.

by rydinlow on Jun 21, 2009 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Diego won by domination… HAHAHA! what are you even trying to say?
he still won the fight in round 2 too by throwing elbows from the bottom that hurt him more than Guida hurt Sanchez in the whole fight…

by RoB on Jun 21, 2009 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions

by badvibes on Jun 21, 2009 5:17 AM EDT up reply actions

How about when the guy on top is trying to hide and not inflicting any damage?

by PW on Jun 21, 2009 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions

“since wen does a guy win the round throwing elbows from the bottom… laughable.”

Since when does a guy win a round by taking someone down, only to show zero offence on the ground and then take so many brutal elbows that all he can do is cover up and try to back away? If anything is laughable, it’s people who think that just because a guy is on top, he’s automatically winning. Not all strikes from the bottom insignificant. Silva submitted Lutter with elbows from the bottom and Diego did more damage with those elbows than Guida did in the entire fight.

The scary thing is that even though most of us think that Guida winning that fight is ridiculous, it could have easily been scored that way. It’s fights like this that show why MMA needs either more 10-8 and 10-10 rounds or just a score for the fight as a whole.
