UFC Quick Quote: Dan Hardy not quite ready for Mike Swick

"I think (Mike Swick) is a little ahead of me. He’s 9-1 in The UFC, I’m 3-0. He really needs to get a big fight like he’s been asking for. I got chance to spend time with Mike during the Fight for the Troops week, he’s a great guy and I wish him all the best. If our paths cross in the future it would be an awesome fight, but as it is right now, he needs a bigger fight than me."

UFC welterweight Dan Hardy, fresh off his slugfest with Marcus Davis at UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany, tells Setanta.com that he's ready for the next step in his career -- just as long as it isn't against Mike Swick. "Quick" was also a winner on June 13 with a dominating TKO win over Ben Saunders in the second round and is likely inching closer to a fight for title contention. If Swick is out, then who is in for "The Outlaw?"

Davis is in, that’s who. Marcus won that fight and both are agreeing to a rematch. Hopefully, it is signed and scheduled in the near future.

Here an interview about it…

Dan Hardy ok with rematch with Marcus Davis

http://www.fiveknuckles.com/mma-exclusive/Dan-Hardy-open-to-rematch-with-Davis-in-Boston-or-Ireland.html

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 17, 2009 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I really hate immediate rematches. I thought the fight was close and all and I had a hard time calling a winner. I initially gave it to Davis but re-watching the fight…it’s a real tough one to call. Hardy beating Davis again really does nothing to furhter him ahead in the division…he already has the W…beating him again won’t put him in any better position than he is now. Plus if Davis wins…we will probably end up seeing a rubber match and that’s just going to be a waste of time for both of them in terms of advancing their careers…not that as a fan I mind seeing a grudge match keep going.

Marcus lost that fight. And would lose a rematch. Marcus sucks but I guess his fans are a little slow on the uptake.

Agreed.

Yeah he has a warriors’ attitude but the fact is, he doesn’t have that great of a skill set and seems to be a little small for ww, wonder if he could make the cut to lw?

I remmember the days when so many were swinging from his nut sack and taliking about him getting a title shot and thought the sun was shined from his backside, then he lost to Swick, and the rats quite rapidly left the sinking ship.

by Ade on Jun 17, 2009 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I always hated him and said he was one-dimensional long before the Swick fight. Everyone was saying I was wrong and that he was one or two fights from a title shot. Now he is one or two fights from getting a pink slip and I LOVE IT.

I’ve never been a big fan of M Davis, but I really am starting to like this Hardy kid, cocky to get the fight hype and humble in victory. Smart Kid.

i dont know who hardy should fight next

rumble johnson would be a good fight or maybe even hazelett or serra

by ufcaddict on Jun 17, 2009 10:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

hazeltt is too much IMO. I think Hazelett just might have the best MMA-Jitz in the divisiion. Give him another stand up war then a contender.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jun 17, 2009 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rumble Johnson would be a great fight. Make it happen!

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jun 17, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

hazelett might be to much but it would make him focus a lot on sub defence and even though he might get subbed at least he will of improved his all around game

if you look at his losses half of them have been by sub and he didnt look to clever in the davis match… he left his neck out there several times and almost got caught in an armbar it is definitely an area he needs to improve

by ufcaddict on Jun 17, 2009 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dana’ll feed him a diet of cans for the next year or so, try and build him up as the next British posterboy, just like he did with Bizzzzzbing. The same thing’ll happen though, as soon as he fights anyone top 10 he’ll lose! He just aint good enough!

by attakdog on Jun 17, 2009 12:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You want Hardy to fight Serra? Seriously? Serra would beat Hardy ANYWHERE HE WANTS! Standing up, Serra knocks him out. On the ground, Serra submits him. Hardy doesn’t have close to a complete enough game to fight Serra.

by YouveGotGold on Jun 17, 2009 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Lytle (if he beats Burns) would be interesting. Condit or Johnson would be too much for him in my opinion. The Barn Cat is booked already, but that would have been an interesting matchup due to their different styles. My guess though is that it will be someone making their UFC debut so that Hardy will be 4-0 in the UFC after the fight and they can continue to build him up and hype him to the Euro fans.

by Sacto on Jun 17, 2009 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

okay i’ve just red the two comments above this 1

attackdog:
hardy has beaten gono and davis who are two very solid opponents although outside the top 10 why would they give him a backwards step?

and comparing his opponents to bispings is very unfair

in hardy’s first 3 fights in the ufc he has faced gono, markham and davis in bispings first 3 fights he faced haynes, schafer and sinosic

haynes is now a WW who is no where near the top 20

schafer is a can who hasnt won 1 good opponent and sinosic is the king of cans who’s only good win is against horn

there is a big difference between the way bisping was treated and the way hardy is treated now…. hardy has not been the favourite in his first 3 fights while bisping has been the heavy favourite in his first 3 fights

youvegotgold:

what are you talking about? hardy has better reach and boxing than serra and why would i not want these to fight??? it will be a great fight + now is the time to set it up because hardy couldnt get this fight if serra won his last fight but he might be able to get it now because serra is coming off a loss

by ufcaddict on Jun 17, 2009 12:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hardy may have better “pure” boxing than Serra and a longer reach, but just about everyone Serra fights will have longer reach, he’s 5’6" for Christs sake. Serra however has a major power advantage and would be able to take Hardy down at will. I mean, Davis was able to take Hardy down pretty easily and he doesn’t have near the grappling background of Serra; not to mention the fact that Serra was able to take down Hughes. If Hardy wants his first loss, sure, put him up against Serra, but I think he’s better suited to fight Saunders or Matt Brown.

by YouveGotGold on Jun 17, 2009 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good post gold! Dana aint gonna risk him against anyone close to top 10, he wants to hype him up so he can headline UK cards with him and avoid bringing over any of his big stars!

by attakdog on Jun 17, 2009 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Youvegotgold needs some common sense. Some of the crap I just read from you has given me a headache. Seriously really, really stupid stuff.

by jay on Jun 17, 2009 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

youvegotgold you have just said yourself hardy has better boxing than serra but in your previous post you stated serra could beat him anywhere i believe hardy would win on the feet he has quicker hands decent power a good thai clinch and good boxing skills

serra has better power and …. oh wait thats it for the standing game

by ufcaddict on Jun 17, 2009 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Serra needs to move down to 155. Ever see him in person? He is a little little man

by BOW on Jun 17, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jay: Defend your assertion that I need some common sense. What have I said that doesn’t show common sense? Get off Hardy’s nuts.

UFCaddict: Having better pure boxing does not equate to having better stand-up. Serra mixes his combinations up well and his power gives him a much a shot to knock out anyone in the WW division.

BOW: Serra would definitely be a force if he decided to drop to 155, but it would be a hard drop. You saw how he looked in his fight against Hughes at 170, he would have to lose muscle to fight at 155. If you look at who Serra has fought and how he’s performed, why does he “need to” move down?

by YouveGotGold on Jun 17, 2009 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just can’t see him making a run for the title @ 170, but @ 155 he would be top 5 in that class. I hear what your saying about having to lose muscle to drop, but that’s fine. He doesnt need as much stength anyway @ 155. He never even would have gotten a shot @ Gsp if it werent for winning tuf.

by BOW on Jun 17, 2009 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

OMG! STOP with this Matt Serra nonsense. Matt Serra has ZERO finishing abilities. Hardy would beat the snot out of Serra. “Serra has a power advantage”. How?? He has NEVER had a KO victory. Hardy would pwn him in the stand up. He might get Hardy to the mat, but he wouldn’t be able to hold him down. Serra is best off his back, and Hardy would know better than to stray into Serra’s guard.

Honestly, if they fought, I can see Hardy finishing Serra by strikes before the 3rd round.

I think Hardy will probably be given a new guy for his first fight, then possibly AJ (who I’d LOVE to see get beat) and maybe Kos or Fitch by then.

He Ko’d GSP. Hello????

by Clay THE CAVEMAN Guida on Jun 17, 2009 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, he did not KO GSP. Did you even watch the fight? It was counted as a TKO, but GSP rolling into Big John and tapped to strikes.

by Syn on Jun 17, 2009 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think a rematch is pointless for everyone. The fight didn’t end on an eye poke KO or something. I am surprised he didn’t jump on the chance for Swick, but I respect what he’s saying.

by Arnold on Jun 17, 2009 10:25 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I dont think he was offered the Swick fight anyway…he is just saying tha Swick is above him…I like when fighters speak honestly instead of the Usual, I will destroy anyone in my path talk!

by JOhn G on Jun 17, 2009 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yea gotta respect that; at least the guys humble and honest; he has a good handle on his place in the UFC and his current standing in the WW division. I don’t see the need for a rematch with Davis either, aside from some lay n prey Marcus really didn’t do anything to win that fight. He got busted up in the striking; Hardy was definatley the fighter that was fighting to finish it. Davis was trying to go for a decision from the opening bell of rd 1

by O damn he got caught on Jun 17, 2009 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I totally agree! I like his humble and honest approach…it just shows that all the stuff he talks is just to hype up a fight.

I honestly dont get why any of you guys would event want to see a rematch. Like O Damn ointed out…Davis did nOTHING to win that fight! Hardy put it on him! Davis got beat up, Hardy got Layed on….no question who won that fight in my eyes!

by JOhn G on Jun 17, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Honesty comes with its problems tho. I like that he said Swick deserves a bigger fight however I don’t like how he doesn’t say he believes he could be Swick or that he’d like that fight. Its like he’s trying to avoid Swick and rub some cream on his balls or something, man up and tell the man you’d take that fight although i’d be a lose lose for Swick. Hardy won me over as a fan by beating Davis, but don’t stop the train now. I only want to see name brand opponents now that Hardy has passed the Davis welterweight gate.

oh yea. thats good stuff

by Cut the Blue Wire on Jun 17, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Swick vs Rumble? Rumble is on the same level as Saunders. That fight would not hlep Swick’s climb at all. Not to mention he would knock him out anyway.

If AJ ever feels like he has no fans, he should just come here. Nutthuggers-a-plenty here.

by Syn on Jun 17, 2009 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No doubt, I don’t se what all the hype is about. AJ knocked out a bunch of nobodys’ and all the sudden he a threat to GSP??? Pppppffffff please………..

by Dragon on Jun 17, 2009 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I never liked swick and he usually bores me, but I enjoyed his performance against my boy, Saunders.

I would like to see Swick face either Kampman or condit in his next fight!

If Swick wants a big opponent then get the hell out of AKA and fight Kos or Fitch and quit crying about not having any big opponents.

I’m really starting to like Dan Hardy.

by Big Daddio on Jun 17, 2009 10:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m actually starting to gain more respect for this kid. i thought he showed respect after the fight (always easier when you win!!), and he seems to be respectful to most other fighters. I was rooting for Davis, but the bottom line is that Hardy did exactly what he wanted to do. He got under the guys skin, and it probably did effect the way he fought and trained. I’d be cool with a rematch, it was a decent fight.

by kg on Jun 17, 2009 10:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

OMG Swick vs Rumble would be an awesome freakin fight

No, Rumble sucks.

by Green Inferno on Jun 17, 2009 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Davis and Hardy can have a re-match down the line, but it shouldn’t be right away. Here’s what I wanna see:

Swick vs. Kampmann
Hardy vs. Condit
Davis vs. Johnson

Swick vs. Johnson would be the most entertaining fight, but I don’t think Swick wants to fight another guy that’s below him in the rankings. I’m not saying he’ll easily beat Rumble, but Swick doesn’t have much to gain from that fight.

by Pat on Jun 17, 2009 11:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Swick vs Kampmann would be a solid fight. My problem is that I feel that everyone is just so far behind GSP that I dont even know who is next after Alves. Maybe Kampmann vs Kos?

by WB on Jun 17, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like the Kampman vs. Swick for a #1 contender spot. Makes alot more since than swick vs. AJ. Cause AJ is over rated.

by Dragon on Jun 17, 2009 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I prefeer Swick vs Dustin Hazelette

by serial killer on Jun 17, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Swick vs. Kampman would be a good fight……but definitely IS NOT a #1 contender type match up. Either of these guys would need to win this hypothethical matchup, and then would need another win vs a legit top 5 fighter in the division.

by CL on Jun 17, 2009 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Kos needs a top 10 win and then a top 5 win to get another shot, especially coming off a loss to Paulo Thiago.

You’re right, the WW could stagnate like it did when everyone was so far behind Hughes before GSP started peaking.

by Pat on Jun 17, 2009 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m w/ you on Kos. He just lost to a nobody IMO. He needs to climb the ladder again. I think Kampmann, and Fitch are probably the most deserving w/ Swick needing one more big win to get a shot. If/When GSP beats Alves, it’s going to be a while before anyone can give him a run for his money.

by LJ on Jun 17, 2009 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was actually thinking about those match ups before you posted that…lol you suck for beating me to it, but those are great matchups for all 6 fighters.

Swick/Kampmann for next in line IMO, Hardy/Condit winner vs. GSP/Alves loser, Davis/Johnson winner vs. Fitch/Thiago winner or loser…just off the top of my head.

by Jon on Jun 17, 2009 11:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Are you really promoting Hardy that quickly that if he beat Condit (I don’t think he would), that he should fight someone the caliber of GSP/Alves in only his then 5th fight? That doesn’t make much sense to me. I don’t think Hardy has a chance there at all. Are you factoring in Kos, Serra, or Hughes into this at all? How’s about Hardy vs. Matt Brown or Ben Saunders?

by YouveGotGold on Jun 17, 2009 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with you Pat.
Swick vs. Kampmann is the fight that I want to see.

And like the Rampage – Jardine fight, if Swick wins, he’s the new #1 contender, but if Kampmann wins, he fights Fitch or loser of GSP – Alves to become new #1 contender. I don’t know… something like that.

by Fugitive on Jun 17, 2009 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

good on paper, I think Swick would beat him handily.

by Big Daddio on Jun 17, 2009 11:35 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’d like to see GSP humble Swick. If Swick wants a big fight, let him have it, and let him get smashed.

As far as Hardy goes, I think it’s pretty weak that he is saying he’s not ready. A few months ago he was talking about how he and GSP had a moment of a Stare down. Swick isn’t that big of a jump from Davis IMO.

by LJ on Jun 17, 2009 12:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Matt Brown, maybe???

by Preezy on Jun 17, 2009 2:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’d be alright with Hardy/Condit. It is the perfect matchup from a business standpoint.

If Condit wins…it will be expected, yet it would give him a solid victory and move him up the ladder.

If Hardy wins, it will be a big upset and they can push him to the next echelon. A Condit loss won’t really hurt him because he has name value and that Kampmann fight was a razor thin decision.

by MMAMoneyLine on Jun 17, 2009 2:56 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Ben Saunders

I would like to see….

Swick vs. Hughes
Fitch vs. Kampmann
Hardy vs. Condit
Parysian vs. Koschek
Serra vs. Hazelett
Anthony Johnson vs. Marcus Davis

I think those would be great match ups and would tell us a lot about where everyone stands. What does everyone think about those match ups?

by KPC on Jun 17, 2009 3:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i like thos matchips except for hardy vs condit. hardy isnt ready for condit. and dana needs more uk starz.

davis vs koscheck
kampman vs swick
condit vs anthony johnson
hardy vs matt brown or serra
fitch vs hughes or serra
hazlett vs dong/grant

by COR on Jun 17, 2009 3:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Good point re: marketing of a UK star in Hardy. With Condit coming off of a loss (0-1 in the UFC), I figured he and Hardy would be a good match up. It would be a good fight but probably a no win situation for the UFC marketing machine.

I think your match ups are strong as well. I think both Swick and Fitch would beat Hughes. Hughes has obvious trouble on his feet (the fact that he has turned into a southpaw and all but given up on his feet proves that) and I don’t think Hughes would be able to take down (and more importantly hold down) Swick and Fitch for 3 rounds due to their size. Both guys are big welterweights.

I think it is odd that nobody has thrown Parysian’s name around for future match ups. I know he is serving a 9 month suspension but he is a top 10 ranked guy and will complete the suspension soon. I personally am not a fan of his and think there are at least 5 guys that would beat him handily in the division but he would be a good test for anyone.
