I saw a previous article on this site where it was a photo for the send off of either Rashad or Nate for a fight and I could swear that Nate looked bigger than Rashad. He’s a BIG MW.

I have pics from both of them way back at UFC 74 and Nate is for sure bigger at their walking around weight.

by Dayzah on Jun 16, 2009 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would definately say he is bigger than Evans. Dude is a fuckin monster!

His movie-esque finish of Goveia is one of the best highlight reel finish i’ve ever seen!

There’s my boi ! Mai has little to no chance in this fight, his ju jitsu isn’t gonna come into play with an animal like Marquardt

Nate’s my favorite fighter at 185. He may not be the best, but the dudes the total package. He’s got some real skills and I’d pay to see a rematch with Anderson.

No amount of muscle or wrestling can stop demian’s JJ. Nate’s goin to sleep in the 2nd. He’s gonna be defensive the whole fight you guys watch.

You know what CAN stop Maia’s jiu-jitsu? A couple hard punches in the face. Fights don’t start on the ground. Maia’s getting TKO’d.

by Jeremyjackson on Jun 16, 2009 11:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep Maia, will find what it is to face a top 10 MW the hard way!If it’s not a KO it will be by brutal TKO!

Also NNR for the Langhi’s vids I,will ask the owner of the site if he can find some.If so…I,will tell you then.

i seen this the other day and i was surprised to nate on the cover but he is a fuckin huge guy, glad to see one of my favorites getting spotlighted in a big name magazine.

NATE OVER MAIA BY TKO IN THE SECOND! he aint getting subbed

What is it they say? You puts a black belt jits artist in the face once and he becomes a purple belt, you punch him again and he becomes a brown belt?

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jun 17, 2009 7:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nate: follow your game plan and you’re straight. Don’t let him lure you to the ground even for a second.

by wAyNe on Jun 17, 2009 9:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do yo think the result would have been the same if Quarry had landed on top of Maia like he did with Jason McDonald instead of underneath the way he did, and started raining down those elbows. I know we will never know, but since McDonald gave Maia his best fight I can’t help but imagine that it would have been a different outcome with those elbows crashing down on his head.

by Ade on Jun 17, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ah yes nate the great. he let me down once but he is the guy who will beat silva. first he has to get by a dangerous maia. but he should have the belt by the end of the year

by day1er on Jun 16, 2009 7:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nate looks in great shape , I dont think Maia will have the sta too hang with Marquardt .. I think he will stuff his first few takedowns then Nate will put him away on his feet.

He looks like a completely different fighter then when he fought A. Silva on 7-7-07 , hope the winner of this gets the winner of Silva vs Hendo/Bisping … I was really thinking this was the #1 contender fight but White has already said the winner of TUF will get the shot..

God damn he’s jacked

Nate looks like a Heavyweight!

How can this guy make 185?

by Lyoto on Jun 16, 2009 7:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn’t be surprised if he walks arounf at 210-220. He is freakin huge!

by neeko on Jun 16, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nate is a great fighter but I think going to get subbed by Maia via triangle choke at UFC 102. Should be a great fight and Maia’s toughest fight to date but Maia reminds me a lot of Machida. Neither one of em ever take a lot of punishment and are very elusive fighters. I think Maia’s BJJ is top 5 in the world. He has choked out his opponent in 8 out of 10 fights and is 10-0. Maia 11-0 after UFC 102 and I think would be a great match for Anderson Silva at 185 if he does win!

Thoughts?

Just stating the fact that andy is a better fighter and can most certainly beat Nate again…

by Drew C on Jun 16, 2009 9:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree Drew, i would also like to state for the second time that nate will be sleeping at 102.

by NameNotRequired on Jun 16, 2009 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol i didn’t see any hate in that statement. just fact

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jun 17, 2009 7:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jesus are you kidding thakid86? Like we need to see another brutal fight like silva’s last one. I would love to see Nate beat the shit out of maia, stun him badly then sub him….would love that, then go on and kick the shit out of a silva, in a perfect world.

It helps that Marquardt got his size due to his steroid usage a few years back. This isn’t an opinion, he was actually suspended for using them, look it up.

Yes, he’s worked hard since, but anyone will tell you once you use steroids once and build your base, it’s just maintenance after that.

Marquardt’s strength should always be viewed with a grain of salt due to him cheating the system.

by Chargers on Jun 16, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah, but in fairness, all the cycles in the world dont mean anything with out hard work, and how u put it..Maintenance!

Not arguing with you cause I dont really care much for Marquardt! Bisping would Smash him!

by JOhn G on Jun 16, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bisping would get creamed in the GnP.

by Jeremyjackson on Jun 16, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

sorry but bisping cant “smash” anything. dance around and win decisions based on cat pawing opponents who come to fight? yes, smash? no

by day1er on Jun 16, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would love for Marquardt to fight Bisping… and knock his ass out

by bk on Jun 17, 2009 12:38 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

BS. Anyone won’t tell you that who knows anything about fitness/steroids/supplements. Base and then it’s just maintenance? Steroids arent magic. All most of them do is raise testosterone or enhance protein synthesis. Certain ones have specific benefits. Some make your muscles “harder”. Some enhance your healing ability which is a big part of why many fighters use them. They do not make you a better fighter. And they do not do anything that legal supplements cant do. They just do it better.

by wAyNe on Jun 17, 2009 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course Nate denied knowingly taking steroids, there is an article about it including this snippet: ‘According to a study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association and other reports, trace amounts in sufficient quantities to cause a drug test failure have been found in over the counter supplements in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy’

It would be pretty stupid to take one of the most easily detectable steroids going into a fight..

by Mad A on Jun 17, 2009 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

by any chance do u know the brand of supplements or a link to the article

by ruanfiy on Jun 17, 2009 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hah. Funny, people seem to think that cover photos only get airbrushed when they have women in them. :)

He’s a huge guy, but this was staged to make him look as big as possible, and touched up like any other cover.

by MattNY on Jun 16, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

maia has not fought anyone close to the skill level or size of nate marquardt. maia is about to be smoked big time. likely 1st round ko.

by JB on Jun 16, 2009 8:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nathan- I never said it would make for a exciting fight but lets face it Maia has the best BJJ in the UFC which says alot. He just needs to catch Nate once in the fight and its over…

I am really interested to see what the odds are on the fight Im sure Nate -200 Maia +140 or something around there.

What do you guys think the betting line will be on this fight?

by thakid86 on Jun 16, 2009 8:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I did the behind-the-scenes video on this shoot and can assure you Nate looks every bit as big in person. If you look at the video he’s just as big. Kinda hard to photoshop that. LOL

It’s funny whenever anyone looks good on a cover there is always some one saying it’s photoshopped. Of course the lighting makes him look bigger welcome to photography 101.

by Isaac Hinds on Jun 16, 2009 8:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It’s not just about lighting. A while back, Andy Roddick was on the cover of Muscle & Fitness and even he laughed at how doctored his photo looked. Roddick said they must have used Rafael Nadal’s arms on the cover.

Not saying that’s the case here, but there is definite cause for suspicion.

That was actually Men’s Fitness, not Muscle & Fitness.

by gflo on Jun 16, 2009 8:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nate was on the cover? I did not notice anything but the upper right corner. I’ll take your word for it…

He’s huge huh?

If you have to scroll up to see what I am talking about you are unhetero.

by brian on Jun 16, 2009 8:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I honestly have said for over the past year that if Nate ever gets another crack at Silva that he would be able to beat him. That’s my personal opinion. And seriously John G, Nate would dismantle bisping in the first round
