This fight cost me going 6/6 on my picks. When Rich was rocked in the 2nd I was literally screaming at my TV, but he just couldn’t connect and clip him one more time for the KO. Both fighters were close to getting shut off in that fight. It was entertaining but I found Wand’s sloppiness disappointing, if not surprising.
Cro-Cop is done. His strikes are predictable and weak now… he would have got wrecked again if he hadn’t run to Dream. He’d get killed in Affliction or Strikeforce as well… may as well go to the one org where you might still have what it takes to be a champ.
Oh, and LOL at Sylvia being obese and getting shut off by Mercer in ten seconds… way to represent, Tim. I have crossed the line from dislike to straight-up pity for you. Time to kill yourself.
All in all, a very good night of fights.

One guy no one is talking about is fn Terry Etim. I just saw his fight and man that was good. Kid’s got heart and definitely getting a slicker sub game. That darce he set up after defending the shot was picture perfect. I always figured he would be a regular on england cards simply coz he’s british but he’s impressed me a lot in his last three fights. I seriously can’t wait until he fights again. He still has that gangly and plodding footwork but it works i guess.

I’ve seen a few of that kid’s fights in the past, and he was definitely entertaining. Good subs like you said, and must be -5% body fat. Must hold a diet of lettuce and water to be that cut.

Etim is probably my favorite British fighter. The head kick ko he landed in his fight before now was wicked. I havent watch this fight, but I’m searching for it now!

That was a pretty good fight. I just watched it, and that could’ve been fight of the night.

i think all those Brits are pretty good. MOst of them are young and constantly improving. AT 1st, I just thought they were basically signed as undercard fighters for UK and now European events. I was wrong, these guys are becoming better and better. I say continue to let them beat up b and c level fighters for the rest of this year,…but in 2010, these guys should start being matched up against better fighters. As an American, I am a big fan, and would not be opposed to seeing them on American based UFC cards. These Brits can Bang. I want to start seeing them on UFN events and ppv’s that take place in America. These guys deserve a shot at an actual career instead of just being british buffers for the UK cards. Time to find out what they are made of…and they deserve a shot at upsetting bigger named fighters.
If I were Joe Silva I would book:
Terry Etim vs. Cole miller (Ufn, opening maincard fight)
Paul Kelly vs. Junie Browning (UFN)
Paul Taylor vs. Ben Saunders (opening fight of ppv main card)
JOn Hathaway vs. Luke Cummo

I think Cole Miller would be the perfect next TEST for Etim!
A battle between 2 of the boniest UFC fighters! lol

I think Terry Etim is going to be a serious threat in the 155 weight class. He is very technical and has a ever improving ground game (which was pretty damn good to begin with). I was dissapointed with Mirko Cro Cop’s TKO “victory” but I don’t think he is quit done yet. He quit the AT task force and his position in poarliment in Croatia to train full time. I think the best of Cro Cop has yet to come. As far as the rest of the fight card, all the fights were pretty good with the exception of Spencer Fisher vs. Caol Uno. It was as if Uno was to afraid to strike, but was unable to do anything from the ground. I was very impressed with Cain Velasquez’s ground game, but dissapointed with his ability to finish the fight from the groung. Also, Cheick Kongo’s ground game was very dissapointing. So who is stoked for UFC 100?

All in all, i thought it ended being a pretty good card. If i were to choose the one thing that sticks out in my mind more than anything, it would be the fact the Cain Velasquez is an absolute BEAST. This guy is gonna be a handful for anyone, including Lesnar and Carwin. He got nailed with some pretty good shots from Congo and he just bullied his way right through it. I was extremely impressed with this guy. Kongo is certainly a top 5 HW in my opinion, and Cain pretty much demoslished the guy. Lots of props to Congo for taking the fight on short notice, but even if he had a full camp for this fight, i don’t see the outcome being much different. Looking forward to the next fight for Cain.

if he takes a shot like the ones kongo delivered from carwin or lesnar im going to guestimate that hes not getting up
by Jared on Jun 14, 2009 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Good guess, but he did get up from those shots and really was never out!!!! He has a severe chin and is as tough as nails.
by Spyder on Jun 14, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
true that, hes as well rounded as they say he just has to keep evolving his striking becasue his ground game is amazing. p.s. he has some shiddy gnp

Cain showed some me a few new things, but he also left some questions in my mind. 1st, Kongo exposed his stand-up. He is really going to have to tighten that up. He showed a good chin, but what happens when he fights a decent striker who actually has some kind of take down defense? Next, Cain showed great control and positioning on the ground, however, he showed literally no jitz skills. Kongo should have been sub’d in the 1st. What happens when he fights a high level BJJ HW like Nog, Mir, or Gonzaga? Lastly, at this point I really don’t feel he could beat either Lesnar or Carwin. I would like to see him fight Dos Santos, Gonzaga, or the loser of Coture/Nog.

Kongo is a kickboxer. He is a nasty mofo on the feet. I think that Cain would get up from those shots inflicted by Lesnar/Carwin, but the X factor is he wont be able to take them down and lay for a minute to recover. They will dictate whether they want the fight on the ground or standing. My view on that fight was like Lesnar/Herring. Both of the losers were built to fight wrestlers. Didnt really have a gamplean for when they got on the ground. I’m a big lesnar fan just based off of his athletisism and stepped it up against Couture. I get sick of hearing that lesnar was just too big for couture and it wasn’t real competitive. Couture beat a 256 wooly mammoth in gonzaga and ktfo in ten seconds by ray mercer Tim Sylvia who cuts to make weight. I just don’t think Cain will last up top with Lesnar, Carwin, Mir, Nog, Dos Santos even. Speaking of which that is a fight I wouldnt mind seeing next, Dos Santos v. Cain

Kongo has much faster hands than Lesnar or Carwin… Cain would outstrike either of those guys.
by Jeremyjackson on Jun 14, 2009 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think cain would outstrike Lesnar. He’s definitely not going to lay on him for 3 rounds.
by Big Daddio on Jun 15, 2009 8:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Im definitely looking forward to seeing Lesnar, Carwin, and Cain go at each other. Interesting to see who is the best wrestler out of the 3.

UFC crew needs to learn how to remove static sound from the audio, can’t listen to this shit.

Agreed. The sound quality was terrible.

He caught the first boat to Ireland to drown his sorrows in a few pints of Guiness with his people.

Cain there is still alot of question under him. First he obviously has no jitsu skills which i dont blame him. But how would he react with a jitsu guy on top of him or on bottom. Second his striking is still a big question. I personally dont think he stand a chance against Carwin or Lesnar. First when u see two wrestlers go at it size usually matters. Like we seen with maynard vs edgar. And Carwin and Lesnar both have heavy hands. I think Carwin getting the next title shot. So I see cain Next opponet being Gonzaga or dos santos which would answer alot of question. Kongo ground game was so bad he didnt get to guard once. With gonzaga cain would have a disadvantage standing. And he would be dodging submission which would answer some question.
