UFC Quick Quote: Wanderlei Silva wants to punch people in the face, not become a real estate investor

"I love to fight.... I don't know what's going to happen after I stop because -- you imagine you don't go into work tomorrow? You're going to stay at home, it's finished, Where are you going? Because I've had this job my whole life.... If I wanted to have money, I'd buy apartments, now they're so cheap. But I'm a fighter, not a Realtor(R)..... I really really like to fight. The emotion, every time I go into the Octagon and the crowd (goes) 'aaah.' This is priceless. This is unbelievable. Sometimes you hit the guy or the guy hits you and the public goes 'wow.' I love this. I don't like the bad fights where they boo.... Sometimes I put my heart in front of my technique. Now my coach talks to me: 'Easy, easy, easy' ... this time I need to fight for a win. I need this, I really need this. But it's possible I'm going to give a show too."

-- Former Pride FC Middleweight Champion Wanderlei Silva talks about the possibility of retirement if things don't go his way against in Rich Franklin in the main event at UFC 99: "The Comeback" at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, this Saturday, June 13. He tells the Canadian Press that he's not really interested in a professional life outside the cozy confines of the Octagon. "The Axe Murderer" -- who turns 33 years old next month -- has lost four of his last five fights, dating back to 2006. He hasn't been fighting creampuffs; however, a lopsided loss to "Ace" would likely be a huge blow to his fighting future. On the other hand, a win could catapult him into the 185-pound contender mix -- his recent public feud with former training partner, old friend and current division champion, Anderson Silva, has got company officials seeing dollar signs. That's a big money match. So will Silva pull off a win and put himself on a collision course with "The Spider" or will he be flipping foreclosures in the Nevada desert sooner rather than later?

Not to be too much of a dick, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know you need to plan for your future! I’m not saying rental properties is or isn’t the way to go, but Wand is on the back end of his career! I truly hope he has a plan!

Lakers won!! Woot woot!!

Now goin’ back to the thread, I would like to punch people in the face and still be a real estate investor, but I think there’s somethin’ wrong with that.

Me: Ok, so it’s a deal?!

Client: Let me think about it…

Me: WTF?!?[punches client in the face]

For anyone who hasn’t seen it and would like to see what wandy is and always has been all about check Wanderlei Silva: Fighting for Pride.

No MMA fan after watching that can ever say they will never be on the Wandy wagon for good….win, lose or draw he comes to fight!

WAR THE WANDINATOR!

NEWS: According to ESPN the Gina – Cyborg fight will be 5 × 5 min rounds!!

Good news for the ladies if this is the new rules.

That should definately be good motivation for them both to come in shape or we could be seeing them getting tired real quick.

THE WANDINATOR!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

Kevin: relax the guy just opened up a school, he has a big clothing company….Wandy n his family wont be starving anytime soon!

Im having a hard time seeing how Franklin will be giving up speed n power to wanderlei (in their hands) and find a way to win the fight.

Most of the time, you can overcome power with speed of technique…and you can overcome speed with Power and technique….I dont think Techniques is enough to overcome both speed and power!

Wanderlei will win this fight! He will Rock rich, Rich will cover up (standing), and Wandy will slap on the muy tai plumb, and knee away til franklin has had enough!

Wandi needs to get the W here, I don’t care if it’s not fight of the night; I would rather see him win. IMO if Wandi goes in there to fight intelligently like he did in his first fight against Cro Cop, his fight against Mark Hunt, then he’ll not only get the win but it will also be an exciting fight. He’s givin us so many wars/ko’s and great performances that the guy deserves a break.

by O damn he got caught on Jun 12, 2009 7:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think he the Wand that fought Hunt is there anymore, but i don’t think he needs to be that good to beat Rich..
He needs to use more brain than heart in this fight, not just go in there and swing wildly without making sure that he won’t get hit..

by RoB on Jun 12, 2009 8:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And for guys like Wandi and Chuck there really is nothing after fighting. Guys like that are natural born fighters, it’s what they love to do and I can’t see either one being happy without it. I think Chuck is going to go through some rough years trying to accept the fact that he can’t compete anymore. Wandi has that same road ahead of him as well but I really hope to see him stick around for 3-4 more years and go on one more tear. I don’t know what it is with Wand but I just don’t think he’s done; I just have this feeling that there’s one more KO spree win streak left in him and I can only hope that that’s the case.

WAR WANDERLEI!

by O damn he got caught on Jun 12, 2009 8:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think wandy has a lot left in the tank…and once he gets adjusted at middleweight he will go on a tear.

Like u said, if he fights like he did against Hunt n Cro Cop…its his fight!

by john on Jun 12, 2009 8:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hell yea John! It sounds like Wandi feels he’s been backed into a corner in this one; I don’t see how anyone could bet against him with his carreer on the line like this; fighting is what Wand loves to do, I don’t think he knows any other way to live at this point; I feel sorry for anyone that tries to take that away from him! No Chuck Liddell comparisons please, there’s a 7 yr age diff; it was Chuck’s time to hang it up, Wand still has 3-4 more years left in the fight game!

by O damn he got caught on Jun 12, 2009 9:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have a better job for Wandy. He should be appointed to Presidential Liaison to Wall Street. See how long it takes to straghten out the financial cluster-fuck once Wandy starts cracking skulls…

“The Dow Jones closed on a high note, with a one day record 989 points… in related news, 13 Wall street brokers were hospitalized following an early day point drop of -3 points.”

by Cole on Jun 12, 2009 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If he thinks buying apartments cheap and renting them is the way to make a living, he may be in for a rude surprise. If he does retire, he might want to stick with something he knows, like opening a gym and teaching MMA.

by DrPepper on Jun 11, 2009 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve done it, and as long as you do background checks and 90% of your tenants work out, you basically let them pay your mortgage, taxes and insurance! It is a risk though, but in this economy, real estate is cheap and lots of people are renting!

He’s talking Brazil. That’s what Shogun does and he seems to be pretty successful at it.

On a lighter note, having Wanderlei as your landlord would be horrifying. If you miss a month, then you’ll end up missing teeth!

by Jono on Jun 11, 2009 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

imagine asking for repairs or your deposit back. when he starts doing that psycho hand rolling technique that he does, it would probably be a good time to say nevermind and walk away.

by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Jun 12, 2009 1:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sounds like Wand is going to be a little more careful this fight to get the W. Good to hear, the win is what’s most important right now.

by Jeremyjackson on Jun 11, 2009 11:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

exactly and that is great to hear his legacy is already secure fans everywhere love him. So the kncok out or be knocked out attitude doesnt have to apply for every fight

there are so many aspects of his game he still hasnt implemented in the cage I want to see those knees and some GnP

what would make my saturday night is to see w silva pull of a submission win or tko stoppage

by dia mette on Jun 11, 2009 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Totally agree,it’s good to hear this.Even if he go for a technical battle…I doubt that will be a boring fight like a certain Brazilian that i know(and i’m not talking about Leites)!

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 12, 2009 12:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, Wanderlei doesn’t know how to have a boring fight. He just needs to exercise a little more caution in the pocket and he’ll be fine.

by Jeremyjackson on Jun 12, 2009 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, but win or lose, he is so damn exciting!

by kevin on Jun 12, 2009 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And by that I mean keep his hands up, move his head and feet a little more, and try not to throw more than three or four bombs at a time before he resets.

by Jeremyjackson on Jun 12, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol, I know what you mean JJ, but that makes too much sense…it won’t happen!

by kevin on Jun 12, 2009 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even there,I don’t see him be in danger with the supposedly KO power of Ace.

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 12, 2009 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK this make more sense!…Agree

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 12, 2009 12:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

listen KO power or not if Wand walks right into one of Franklin’s harder punches then it’s over…

by RoB on Jun 12, 2009 8:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i’m pretty sure wandy doesn’t even plan for the second round, i doubt he’s planning for the future…

Probably written down in a “My little pony” journal book, I’d think it looks pink; with some fake little roses on it and perfume scented pages more than likely.

seemingly good news for uk fans, as the bbc have stated, "Setanta, the Irish sports pay channel, is in talks with a new investor which could prevent the company going into administration, the BBC understands.

The board of Setanta will meet on Friday and a deal could be finalised in the next 72 hours, says BBC Sports Editor Mihir Bose." Lets hope this goes through, I dont want to go back to the bravo days!!!

Got to love wandi!! I hope he doesnt get cut if he loses his next 5 fights, the guy just loves to fight and loves to put on a show for the fans. Hes the perfect model professional if you ask me. Ofcourse if health becomes an issue then its time to stop fighting but thats not the case!!!

by mo on Jun 11, 2009 11:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Man this fight is so hard to pick, i like both guys, they are both awesome fighters, they both need the win. Double KO in the third round please.

by PanicZoo on Jun 11, 2009 11:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

in a way it sucks that two of my fav fighters have to fight each other cause it means i have to see one of them lose…but at the same time if i have to see one of them lose id rather see it against someone i love than someone i hate…

you cant help but love wandy…his accomplishments speak for themself, one of the most dominate and respected fighters ever…great personality…and has incredible respect for the sport itself….but a lot of what has made wandy what he is is his intimidation…hes won a lot of fights before he even steps into the ring…his pace just overwhelms his opponents and in his pride days few could answer it…

but i just think rich is just too well rounded and a better overall fighter..dude has had close to 30 fights and hes only been stopped by 2 people…who else can say that in 30 fights??

i think wandy is just going to run at him full speed with everything he has and rich is going to counter him and pick him apart and eventually take him down…wandy has the power and explosiveness but i just think rich is too smart….

besides, after facing anderson twice what the fuck can wandy show u that you havent already seen from not only fighting anderson but training with him..

but like i said, i really hate to see either one of these guys lose, im such a fan of both of them…im saying rich by tko in the 3rd

i’d buy a house from wanderlei. i probably wouldn’t low ball him though on the price.

by chris on Jun 12, 2009 3:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well even though he definitely wouldn’t make as much earnings in his new gym as he did in his fights,he can still depend on it to support his family.I personally think that opening a gym was the best decision Wanderlei did for when that day of retirement comes.

by Myles on Jul 4, 2009 11:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Opening a gym was the best decision Wanderlei made. It’s the perfet fall back for him and his family for when his day of retirement comes. It probably won’t make him as much earnings as his fights did but they’ll definitely manage. So you can X out the 9-5 routine.
