UFC vet Jason Day gets back on the winning track at 'Rumble in the Cage 35'

Canadian Middleweight Jason Day -- a recent causality of the UFC roster cuts -- returned to action outside the Octagon this past weekend (June 5), taking on Trevor Stewardson at "Rumble in the Cage 35" from the South Pavilion Exhibition Park in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
"Dooms" was able to notch a second round submission victory over the former Olympic boxer with a snazzy "twister." It snapped a two-fight losing skid for the Canadian and got him one step closer to earning a spot back in the big show.
Day started his UFC career with a bang, thrashing Alan Belcher via technical knockout (strikes) at UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre 2" back in April 2008. Unfortunately, Day was unable to continue that success. He would end up dropping back-to-back bouts to Michal Bisping at UFC 85: "Bedlam" and more recently to Kendall Grove at UFC 96: "Jackson vs. Jardine," both by first round technical knockouts.
It's likely that a couple of impressive wins over a handful of tough veterans could earn him another opportunity to compete under the UFC banner, especially if the promotion follows through on its plans to storm other parts of Canada.

What is a “two-win” losing skid? Day looked like garbage against Bisping and Grove…it would likely take more than a few wins to get back in the UFC…unless they are headed back to Canada.

This is going to be just like THE CROW situation. UFC will bring Day back for Cqanadian cards, and then dump him again….I couldnt care less either way.
This guy has dissapointed me. He kind of became a cult favorite…everyone hyped him up after the Belcher fight as if he was the next big thing. I remember half of the bloggers on this site were picking him against Bisping…hahah what a joke that was!

I wanna see him against the Athlete and Kalib. MFC make it happen so he can make his way back to the UFC. Can’t believe he lost to Grove though sigh.

So… what the hell is a twister? Forgive my ignorance.

Twister is a rare submission move. GO back and watch Meyhem vs. the Japanese dude who’s name I forgot. It happened about 2 years ago in the WEC and Mayhem was attempting all kinds of rare submission holds like “Twister” and “Splits”….I may be wrong, but I think Twister is similar to the “Excorsist” submission hold that Bas Rutten demonstrated in a video that mania posted about a year ago…I could be wrong, but I know its a high level submission hold for sure!

is it an arm or leg lock? doesn’t sound like a choke…
by Synyster on Jun 9, 2009 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions
If its the same as the excorsist, its basically holding a fighters body still, and trying to spin his head around so that his head is on backwards. I doubt its the same, because that move would snap someone’s neck, and surely result in DEATH…so I actually cant really remember what it was….From what I remember its basically twisting a body part in a direction that its not supposed to go………Def not a choke, and probably not a leg lock.
I got Jits class later, I will find out for you for sure!

Google Eddie Bravo..he has a whole book called “Twister”. I think he made the move sort of famous. The twister is a lock that mainly puts your body going in two diff. directions and i am pretty sure the pressure is on the spine/neck region of the body.

That cant be true. That move would be deadly and I have seen it attempted in a WEC fight. Mayhem tried it against that Japanese dude. whats his name? Miura maybe? No way that a deadly submission hold is legal in mma. The submission you are describing is the Excorcist and twister is probably similar…but for sure it works by twisting the body in 2 different directions, I just dont think its the neck.

the twister is like the exorcist. eddie bravo popularized ‘the twister’ in bjj.
There are some good links to video/pictoral tutorials online.
You stabilize the body with your legs/hips and then try to twist their head around. It provides torque on their spine. I think it is a form of a neck crank maybe…

thats what I thought, but wouldnt that result in snapping your opponents neck and DEATH? what if the opponent doesnt tap? HE DIES!!! It cant be the same as the excorsist!

I guess we know how it ends when a guy says “I’ll never tap!!”
