LOL.
You know, just watching some of the Franklin highlights tonight reaffirmed for me that, contrary to popular opinion on this board, Rich is NOT that technical of a striker. He throws wide and from the hip pretty often, although his footwork is nice.
by Jeremyjackson on Jun 10, 2009 12:17 AM EDT up reply actions
Franklin is definitely unorthodox. I believe he is falsely percieved as a technical striker primarily because of his intelligent approach. The combination of being both intelligent and unorthodox combines as Frankin’s best asset. As for overall skills, Frankin is at least OK in all areas, but not exceptional, and I’m a Franklin fan.
As an aside, I am looking forward to this event. I am impressed with the fight card as a whole, and see 7-8 very intriguing fights.

I fell alseep studying last night n missed the countdown. Anyone got a link where I can watch it?
by john on Jun 10, 2009 8:46 AM EDT up reply actions
He is basically seen as a technical striker because Joe Rogan says so, lol.. I was shocked when they went on about how phenomenal of a striker he was before one fight..
by RoB on Jun 10, 2009 9:10 AM EDT up reply actions
It is technical, just not classically technical. The angles he generates are odd, but intentional. But your right, his technicality is more about the foot work.

Bad news for all UK fans! Looks like Setanta are going into administration and the channels could potentially go down before Saturday. No UFC99 maybe. F**kin’ sucks. Lets hope BSkyB buy them out before 100.
by RobH86 on Jun 10, 2009 12:13 AM EDT reply actions
I’m pretty sure they will still be airing 99, at least that’s what I read.
by Tom on Jun 10, 2009 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions
Let’s hope so. Not looking good for 100 though. :(
by RobH86 on Jun 10, 2009 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions
It’s about time you deadbeat Brits ponied up and started buying PPVs like the rest of suckers!
;-)

You Mean canada and usa are paying 50 bucks for each ufc card AND the UK get them free ??? I hope thats not the case here. PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME do uk get ufc for free ?? … they better not!
by WutangSwordsman on Jun 10, 2009 2:09 AM EDT up reply actions
Hey we have to pay £14 a month for the channel, so its just like PPV. I been worrying bout this too actually anyone got any info on what will happen if they go bust?
by Eagzy on Jun 10, 2009 5:33 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah blank screens will replace programmes and the auditors will beg sky to pay them stupid amounts of money for their football deal so they can pay the SPL and the premier league what they’re owed.
Not looking good for a UFC deal I don’t reckon. Think sky will be reluctant to get involved again and could bravo or anyother minor channel afford it??
by attakdog on Jun 10, 2009 5:46 AM EDT up reply actions
Thats pretty sh!tty like, i hear today that there website is down for " routine maintenance ".
Surely Dana will be making sure there is some sort of TV deal in the UK its huge over here now.
by Eagzy on Jun 10, 2009 7:38 AM EDT up reply actions
According to the old current bun, ESPN are favourites to pick up Setanta’s football rights. Don’t know if they can do a deal for the UFC too? Could it be viable, they’re both American companies??
by attakdog on Jun 10, 2009 8:07 AM EDT up reply actions
In response to wutang, we dont get PPV’s for free anymore, we used to up until early last year with a 24 hour delay. You guys pay roughly £30 to £35 for a PPV which is expensive to what we pay now, but there’s no way we can be charged that much coz the sport aint as big over here and because of the big time delay. Nobody would pay that much to watch at 3 o’clock in the morning.
by attakdog on Jun 10, 2009 8:21 AM EDT up reply actions
PPV’s should still be for free over here in sweden i hope.. there’s noway i would pay to watch the UFC in the middle of the night, i’d stream it or download it then..
most important thing for me after all is that i can watch football, Tennis and the big sports..
by RoB on Jun 10, 2009 9:19 AM EDT up reply actions
You swedes still like tennis? You haven’t had a decent player since stefan edberg.
by attakdog on Jun 10, 2009 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions
well, Robin Söderling just played in the final of the french open and is ranked 12 in the world.. I also don’t give a damn about swedes or not, If that was the case then Detroit Red Wings would be my fav team in the NHL, and i hate them!..
by RoB on Jun 10, 2009 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions
I was just pullin your chain, sorry mate. I thought you could have at least mentioned Magnus Norman or Thomas Johannson ahead of Soderling though.
by attakdog on Jun 10, 2009 9:42 AM EDT up reply actions
Can anyone provide a link to were i can watch the UFC 99 countdown show?
by john on Jun 10, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions
yeah i could have taken the time to do that, my personal fav would have to be Mats Wilander though..
by RoB on Jun 10, 2009 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions
wtf was up with wany’s left eye. It looked all bloodshot and shit. Im surprised they didnt even do a 5 minute piece on hardy v. davis. Granted hardy isn’t a household name, but its goona be a good fight nonetheless. This is one of the best card in a while that hasn’t happened the end of the year.
by charr552 on Jun 10, 2009 12:14 AM EDT reply actions
Ya I was pretty pissed they didnt give ANYTHING to Hardy and Davis. I understand where they are coming from though, the HW division sucks (compared to all the other weight classes) so this is a big fight. And also they have put WAY more stock into Cain then Hardy as up and comers – I dont consider either Kongo or Davis in this category.
Dont think any of the fights are phenomenal, but a solid main card IMO.
charr, I noticed that too. When I met Forrest a few days ago at his book signing he was going on about how hard Wandi spars at practice, so someone was probably just going toe to toe with him.

I cant believe this news of setanta, this will be terrible if it goes through!!!!
I cant see sky buying the rights for the ufc, although i would love them to if setanta goes down. This shit better get sorted, I need my UFC in my life!!!!!!!!! Seriously!!!!!!!
I also cant believe that Kongo is the underdog, Il be backing him big time, plus there is value with other fighters also, such as wandi and dan hardy, and also ben saunders!!!!
Please get the setanta nonsense sorted!! Its all to do with money owed to football (soccer) leagues in britain, they are supposidly 500,000 viewers short on the 1.9million they need just to break even, and if the money isnt paid the administrators will come in…..Totally GUTTED!!! This was the best thing to happen to ufc/mma fans with setanta buying the rights for the ufc, now it leaves us all in the lurch!!!
by mo on Jun 10, 2009 1:15 AM EDT reply actions
Is That channel setanta the only way that You UK guys can watch UFC CARDS ??
by WutangSwordsman on Jun 10, 2009 2:07 AM EDT up reply actions
sorry to hear that guys. HOpefully this situation gets resolved and you guys dont have to miss to much UFC live!
by john on Jun 10, 2009 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions
I occasionally watch Setanta here for the rugby.
by PW on Jun 10, 2009 11:55 AM EDT up reply actions
I heard they were shutting down all channels within 72 hours, but this was denied on the bbc news this morning. This looks pretty terminal and I cant see Sky getting involved after the sh!t they had with cage rage. Hope they last till Sunday!
by attakdog on Jun 10, 2009 4:55 AM EDT up reply actions
what do you mean mate, I pay monthly for setanta just to watch the ufc, so even when there are no ufc events that month we still pay!!!!!!!!!
Plus ppv events havent hit off in britain, they tried it with soccer and it never took off. The only ppv events are on sky and its the big boxing cards with british fighters, ie, hatton, lennox lewis in the past etc!!!
by mo on Jun 10, 2009 2:03 AM EDT reply actions
There’s a UFC show every month mate, has been for years.
I agree that PPV hasn’t really taken off here and I certainly dont think there’s a market for UFC PPV’s here yet.
If they couldn’t sell live football here in prime slots there’s not much chance of making huge numbers on UFC PPV’s broadcast at 3 in the morning.
by attakdog on Jun 10, 2009 8:11 AM EDT up reply actions
It hasn’t taken off and never will because PPV s*ck!
It’d be a horrible idea if they ever started havin it in Europe..
by RoB on Jun 10, 2009 9:22 AM EDT up reply actions
OH shit i never heard this…but i dont think Dana would let the UFC just be cancelled in the whole of the UK just because of Setanta…wel atleast i hope not.
But i get a great deal with Setanta its 15 pound a month and sometimes there are 2 UFC event in the same month..
and aswel as this get to watch Gaelic Football, Australian Football and Soccer all for free!
This will seriously affect my life if Setanta dont sort this out!!!!!!

So while watching the Countdown they actually commented on Cains “Brown Pride” tattoo and said he got it because he appreciated his roots.
I too appreciate my roots and heritage, does that mean i can get a similiar tattoo and get into the UFC?
Or is there some kind of double standarrd going on here?

The guys down at AKA made Velasquez sound like the second coming of Christ. If they are that sure, I have no problem tossing down some serious money on him, even at +200
