They really gotta up Urijah and Fabers pay role.

Urijah and Faber huh…

Ok some of these guys pullin in 2.9k for a fight are
WAY underpaid, these guys train for about 2 mnths for these fights; their purse is only pulling in about 1.5k a month, thats like 18k a year they’re on the poverty line if their sponsorships ain’t sh!t.

I think Obama should regulate this injustice…

by Arnold on Jun 8, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Or maybe they could just get a f*cking day job… No I think Obama is needed

by Arnold on Jun 8, 2009 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually the correct Obama way would be too just blame the previous owners of the WEC, and pretend its their fault the pay is the way it is.

Its about time the fighters get a federal bailout.

Urijah makes a lot more than this- a lot. Did everyone here do this back for WEC39 causing his manager to come out and say no, he’s making out just fine. As for everyone else though, yea they’re getting the shaft. I don’t even think Mike B got that great of deal. Without PPV it’s so hard coz they’re revenue source is really constricted- gate and adverstising.

I thought the same thing… who does he bring as a fan. I love the guy, but if he is gonna get paid that, many others should get paid a lot more.

I’m sure they make it worth Faber’s time, he’s had WEC on his back for a while now. Just cause that’s what they say his salary is doesn’t mean that’s all he gets paid. I’m sure his contract includes some nice payouts. Last night left me kinda sad though. Jens and Faber had some bad luck. If Jens had some sweat on his head he would’ve gotten out. I hate it when fights end that fast (except Aldo’s that shit was awesome!). Hope he doesn’t end it after this, its not like he can’t compete or got his ass whooped. Just got caught.

Would’ve liked to see Faber sans broken hand.

by Nokimono on Jun 8, 2009 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

On the Adam Carolla, is that how it is spelled???? Adam said that Fabwer was UNDERPAID…..Faber agreed and said taht he will make at least $100,000 for this fight.

Faber mentioned there are bonuses OTHER than FOTN, SOTN, KOoTN…..He says they will give him a nice bonus(in locker room after fight or soon after) and say good job, or some other way of giving him more money that is NOT reported the the commission.

So, IF FABER is ADMITTING that he will make OVER $100,000 for one fight…IT is probably safe to say that it is more than 100k

by fightfan on Jun 8, 2009 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions

thats so whack that Brown makes so little, 25 minutes in the cage as the main event title holder? The worst part is that Jens fought for like a minute barely on the main card, and he hasnt done sh*t lately, but made more than the champ or the number 1 contender. However I would bet that Mike Browns locker room bonus check was fat. So fat indeed that if you slept with it you wouldn’t tell your friends.

by JRE on Jun 8, 2009 2:49 PM EDT reply actions

Its crazy there are crappy UFC fighters who make a lot more that him.

moped money!

by Nokimono on Jun 8, 2009 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Brown deserves to be paid a lot more than that, it’s a travesty that he was paid less for retaining his title in a great main event against the WEC’s poster boy than Pulver was for being beaten early on yet again. Hopefully he can get a better deal for his next defence.

by David W-S on Jun 8, 2009 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s being paid roughly the same as Faber, and lets be honest Faber has way more draw and is more of an asset for WEC then he is.

by ShaiZ on Jun 8, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

What’s with Cerrone and a couple other guys walking away with change? I wonder if Cerrone’s people wouldn’t sign the deal unless he got that extra 54 cents? lol. Just seems kind of weird.

by DB on Jun 8, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

hahahahahaah

by bump on Jun 8, 2009 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions

where do they get these numbers from? UFC pays out in even numbers usually, Donald Cerrone — $17,682.54? Why the 54 cents? hahaha just kinda weird. Did they see how much money they made and then gave people percentages or something?

Funny story about the Aldo fight. My dad was grumbling before the fight wanting it to be the Brown vs Faber fight already. I turned to him and said “Don’t worry it will be over quick. Swanson isn’t even in the same league as Aldo” and right about then Swanson went down. I knew it would be over quick, but no way did I think it would be that quick. I like Aldo a lot. In my opinion he’s the fastest guy in the Featherweight division, with pin point accuracy in all of his strike [especially the knees], and his ground game is what he’s known for. We haven’t even seen him on the ground yet, but he’s supposed to be top of the food chain. And the best part about Aldo is he’s only 22 years old! Even if he looses to Brown [assuming he gets the next title shot] he’s got plenty of time to grow and mature as a martial artist.

by DB on Jun 8, 2009 3:16 PM EDT reply actions

These guys deserve better salary for the show they presented. UFC makes lot of money so that it is worth of paying at the same level of gains.

by Eddie Rock on Jun 8, 2009 3:37 PM EDT reply actions

The reason these fighters salaries are so low is because the show was free on VS!! The WEC would not draw big PPV numbers so they are still trying too build up the brand by doing free shows on cable. Without pay per view revune coming in, this is what these fighters can expect to make per fight. Instead of bitching about how low there salaries are, I suggest fans start buying tickets to the WEC, buy some pay-per-views at $40 a pop so these guys can start making some money.

by Doubled on Jun 8, 2009 3:45 PM EDT reply actions

Apparently Faber said in a talk show he will definitely take home 6 figures with the locker room bonus that is not disclosed and I am sure Zuffa is taking care of brown because I do not think he is going to be beaten for a while at 145. That means Aldo also, Brown is a huge 145 once he gets into the cage and I think he will catch Aldo with a right hand if he tries the fancy crap.

I would also like to see Faber fight Leonard Garcia or Manny Gamburyan if he stays at 145. He wrestled at 133 in college so how about making the weight cut to 135 to test the waters there, then the WEC can bring in Kid and Joe Warren.

by Jared on Jun 8, 2009 3:50 PM EDT reply actions

and people wonder why torres want to come to the ufc. Not only could he compete with the best but he can actually get PAID!!
Im sure they are making something in bonuses but its still not enough considering these guys are the best in their weight class!

by ItsNormlToSmokePot on Jun 8, 2009 4:15 PM EDT reply actions

Now I see why Brown works at ATT. These dudes need to make more money! He also needs someone to negotiate him a better deal. Even with the (to show) pay and the win money he still made less than Faber. Last I checked he was the champ before the fight. How does he have to win to still make less than Faber. I know someone will probaly say that Faber sold the fight and deserves more, but I say the champ should have made more. B.S. in my opinion.

by BeerMan on Jun 8, 2009 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah its disgusting.

by Green Inferno on Jun 8, 2009 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

no its called a contract. he’s probably making the same amount as he was before he was champ. No worries, he’ll get a much better deal soon.

by killer on Jun 8, 2009 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions

that pic of money even looks fake, so too i hope are these terrible salaries…you wonder why people go to affliction or strike fores you ufc huggerz

by iamdanawhite on Jun 8, 2009 5:59 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t think MMA fighters are overpaid – the ones that are good enough to make a career out of this seem to do ok, and those that don’t… well, since when should failure be rewarded?

If you want a reliable, safe paycheck that comes with health and dental, go get a soul-crushing 9-5 job like all the rest of us.

What this really demonstrates is how bloated other pro sports are and how insanely overpaid their athletes.

by MattNY on Jun 8, 2009 6:01 PM EDT reply actions

9-5 soul crusher! lol i love it! thats why i work for a friend 20 hours a week, no taxes, no dress code, come in whenever i want… livin the dream

by brendan on Jun 8, 2009 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

so you think ufc fighters whose payroll doesnt even equal 1/3 the gate! is fair…if you makn money so many billions like the ufc then spread some alll monopolies turn bad look at Gates and pc’s then apple came along

by iamdanawhite on Jun 8, 2009 6:04 PM EDT reply actions

Wow Brown is making Less than Faber, Gamburian and Pulver! Pulver is the really shocking one……he has not looked good for a long while now.

by jamie on Jun 8, 2009 6:51 PM EDT reply actions

Pulver deserves at least what he gets if not more based on what he has done in the sport. The travesty here is not Pulver making more, it’s all these guys making less when compared to top name UFC talent. Again, it’s great we get to see it for free, but the WEC needs to go PPV to raise fighter salaries.

by sudnvictory on Jun 8, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I have to jump on the pay bandwagon, too. It seems like their pay is proportional to their weight! A stud like Faber is making 25k…..doesn’t make sense despite the fact that he is probably making a LOT more in bonuses/sponsorships we don’t even know about.

As a fan, I love the fact that I can watch WEC on Versus for free but I think that has to be hurting the fighters salaries. I will certainly pay the PPV fees to continue to watch WEC matches if and when they stop the free stuff.

And as I said on another thread, this card was one of the best cards I have seen in MMA….it’s a shame the fighters aren’t making more when guys like Arlovski are getting huge $$$ to get KTFO.

by sudnvictory on Jun 8, 2009 7:19 PM EDT reply actions

yea its a SHAME.IM STILL NOT PAYING FOR ANY FIGHTS WHEN I GET THEM FOR FREE.

by Nick on Jun 9, 2009 1:06 AM EDT reply actions

HOW THE HELL is gamburyan making more (on the public record) than Brown & Faber? He’s never really been that great. Somebody please explain this to me so i can get down off of this ledge.

by WDC on Jun 9, 2009 4:56 AM EDT reply actions

THE PROBLEM: Fighters are way underpaid. and and if you disacgree you are stupid and ignorant. These guys train for months for one fight with out a salary or health insurance. if they get hurt training to put a show on for YOU. that comes right out of their own pocket. For the leve that they are competing at this is horrible. And the UFC/WEC is by far the worst. I mean are you serious!
Kyle Dietz — $1,840
James Krause — $1,692
Seth Dikun — $3,940 (Includes $2,000 win bonus) HE WON!
Rolando Perez — $2,890
This makes me wanna throw up. Its a good thing these guys love what they do cause there is NO other reason why they should be doing this.
THE SOLUTION: A fighters union. Get all the fighters together and go on strike. I love watching MMA but I would be even happier to see everyone go on strike and have there be no fights for a while. I think that the minimum pay for the UFC should be around 12,000. So that no matter what each fighter takes home 12,000. The ufc has more than enough money to pay for this. They should also have healthg care and retirement. This is a good video on the subject.
