Leonard Garcia vs Jameel Massouh in the works for WEC 42 on August 9

Former WEC featherweight number one contender Leonard Garcia (12-4) and promotion sophomore Jameel Massouh (21-5) are on a late summer collision course for WEC 42 from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday, August 9, according to MMAWeekly .

"Bad Boy" made a name for himself at UFC 69 when he went back and forth for three rounds with Roger Huerta in a brawl that was awarded "Fight of the Year" by the promotion. Garcia lost the decision that night, but certainly left his mark as a scrappy and talented fighter.

Feeling a little too small to compete with the endlessly talented roster of fighters in the UFC’s lightweight division, he made the move to the Zuffa-owned WEC in order fight at his more natural weight of 145 pounds.

In his two fights under the WEC banner, he put down top ten fighters Hiroyuki Takaya at WEC 32 and Jens "Lil’ Evil" Pulver at WEC 36 - both by first round knockout. The Lubbock, Texas native got his crack at the featherweight crown against newly-minted champion Mike Thomas Brown, unfortunately Brown was too much for him and submitted him in the opening frame after a brutal knockdown.

Now Garcia will look to exact revenge against Massouh, who came up short in his promotion debut against Rafael Assuncao at WEC 40: 'Torres vs. Mizugaki' last April.

Priot to the loss, "The Sergeant" was the winner of four straight, including a unanimous decision win over Ryan Healy back in November. He’s an aggressive fighter who has finished 80 percent of his wins before the final bell (nine by submission and seven via technical knockout).

A win over an established competitor like Garcia would likely rocket Massouh up the featherweight ladder.

The main event of WEC 42 will feature 135-pound champion Miguel Torres (37-1) and undefeated challenger Brian Bowles (7-0) clashing in a five-round affair for the right to be called the king of the bantamweights.

I thought they gave Huerta/Guida Fight of the Year. Huerta/Garcia didn’t even make the “Best of 2007” DVD. Which, by the way, was 1000x better than the “Best of 2008” DvD. They should’ve called it “Most Hyped of 2008”. Not that they weren’t bad fights, all on the 2008 dvd were headliners of some sort. 07 was for real, the best fights of that year, ranging from PPV headliners, to UFN co-main events, and even a PPV undercard match!

I think that they should do “UFC 2008: Best Knockouts” and a “UFC 2008: Best Submissions” then a culmination of Best of 2008.
