MMA Quick Quote: 'Dont call it a comeback' for Kevin Randleman ... it's a rebirth

"LL Cool J has a great song: ‘Don’t call it a comeback. I’ve been here for years.’ Don’t call it a comeback. I don’t think of it as a comeback. I look at it like I needed to go back to school and learn a lot more. I’m just going to give it my all Saturday night. I don’t anticipate anybody at 205 being able to knock me out or take me out. Think of it as the ‘Rebirth of the Monster.’ But I’m not a monster anymore. I’m not running around in the streets like a crazy man. I just want to fight. I just want to be the guy I always was but was too scared to be. The best thing that ever happened to me was the UFC firing me because I was just too crazy and too out of control. There has always been so much chaos in my life that now that it’s calm I feel nervous. But not because I’m fighting Mike Whitehead or whoever on June 6. I’m not nervous because I’m angry. I’m nervous because I know for one year I’ve trained for this fight. I’ve been training because I knew I had to be ready to fight once I got that contract. And my last three fights I’ve gotten better and better and better. Right now I feel like I’m in the sewers. People don’t know my name and that’s exactly what I like. I’m not fighting again for the fame. I’m fighting for the money and for the wins. And I know that the wins will take care of the money."

-- Former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman talks about his return to action against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 2 contestant Mike Whitehead on the main card of the "Lawler vs. Shields" event tomorrow night (June 6) from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. "The Monster" (17-12) last competed on the second Sengoku card in May 2008, pulling out a unanimous decision victory over Ryo Kawamura. The fight was Randleman’s first MMA bout since 2006, which was a submission loss to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at Pride 32: "The Real Deal." It’s been a pretty bumpy ride for ex-Hammerhouse fighter in recent years. In addition to surviving a SERIOUS staph infection that could have killed him if went untreated, Randleman — who is now training with Xtreme Couture out of Las Vegas — was also stopped for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), intimidating a public officer and other charges in Sin City in late 2007. He also served a suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), which was issued for providing a non-human urine sample following his loss to Rua. Now with a clean bill of health, new wife and insulated from bad influencers, Randleman feels it's now or never. Can he do it? We'll find out in 24 hours or less. He's just a little excited.

Randleman NEVER had his touch. 1 of the most over rated big name fighters in the world. All the physical gifts, just WASTED!!!!

Match him up against Whitehead and u get 1 of the most irrelevant fights in mma today!

Your a tool john! The other day when I talked alittle sh*t about Fedor you got your panies twisted. Your were quick to defend his opponents (which Randleman was) and say they were legit wins. But now your saying Randleman “never had his touch” “1 of the most overrated big name” So did Randleman become legit when he fought Fedor?

JV: I try to respect peoples opinions, but JV…you are just DUMP! Simple as that..you cant even help it. I never once in my life said I was happy with all the opponents fedor has faced. So i dont even know why u would bring this up. Was I impressed by Fedor in the randleman fight? Damn right, I dont care who fEDOR was fighting. Seeing Fedor lifted 15 feet in the air and getting suplexed on his neck, getting up as if nothing had ever happened, and submitting randleman about 30 seconds later was extremely impressive you TWAT!!!!

You can write back and talk trash all u want, but I am honestly not going to answer you because its a complete waste of my time. U r a Moron! Anyone who is on this site day n night, never misses a fight and is still completely clueless is not someone, I should waste my time and energy talking to. Enjoy your day.

Sorry, but thats real talk!

hey mania check tmz about tito, juanito suing him…maybe a story there.

by Nokimono on Jun 5, 2009 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I checked that out and what a joke. If he wins this it just goes to show how stupid our legal system is. If you can sue someone for saying you ripped someone off in an interview its a joke. You know I can beleive Juanito is pulling this shit? I guess since Page and Kongo left he has to make money somehow. " I know Ill sue one of the richest guys in the sport" Your a joke of a human being Juanito

Rebirths don’t happen at 39. He’s gonna start diving for takedowns as soon as the bell rings. No offense but yea, no new tricks for this old dog.

he’s just a lil pumped…he doesn’t look like he would produce human piss..ahaha..not the best past, but hey leave it all behind and bring it on..

ANYONE, ANYTIME….I am not like those other fighters that say they will fight anyone that is offered. When Scott Coker says its go time, then its time.

Too bad “The Monster” is a hypocrit. He will fight anyone anytime, as long as he has a chance to win the fight. His camp must of told him what a real monster Feijao REALLY is…..so the fake monster quickly recanted on his ANYONE, ANYTIME rant that he spewed just a week before turning down the Feijao offer

by fightfan on Jun 5, 2009 10:51 PM EDT reply actions

very ape! this man’s gone berserk! Even if there’s a rebirth, he ain’t comin’ back to his old form. But I like the fact that the monster fights for the money, and to win. Though I don’t think he could win with a lot of new breed fighters around.

Syd, I meant to respond to the other thread regarding the UFC vs the world thing.
People were talking about the precedent of one organization going out to challenge another. You are right, in that the NBA and even some other pro sports have made similar crossovers.
However, M1 is talking about putting up championships. That would be more like the CFL challenging the NFL to allow one of it’s teams to play in the superbowl. Back in the day, it would ave been more like the split leagues of the ABA & the NBA. If the UFC wanted to do it, fine, but I don’t think it’s that radical for them to ignore it completely.

Sorry about the digression guys. Randleman’s a nut, and does Sisco know his dad is still fighting at 39?

Its fitting he references a song that was popular around the last time he was relevant
