UFC Quick Quote: Anderson Silva is in trouble with Wanderlei Silva

"Before he was my friend, and I trained with him for a long time in Brazil before he (left). But I don’t know why he started talking bullshit about me in Brazil. I don’t know why ... I think I’m inconveniencing him, understand? Because he knows who I am, and he knows it’s possible he’s in trouble with me."
-- Former PRIDE middleweight champion (93 kg/ 205 pounds), Wanderlei Silva, comments on his former friend/training partner and reigning UFC Middleweight Champion (185 pounds), Anderson Silva, during the recent UFC 99 media conference call. "The Axe Murderer" will face former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin at "The Comeback" at a catchweight of 195 pounds. It will be a transitional fight for Wanderlei, who looks to make the full drop to 185 pounds immediately following. The former Chute Boxe teammates are not shy about the fact that they haven’t seen eye-to-eye in a while. After leaving the team, "The Spider" was reportedly forbidden by Chute Boxe coach Rudimar Fedrigo from competing in PRIDE, where Wanderlei was the champion — until, that is, his friend, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira intervened. Now that Anderson is the champion, Wanderlei showed no hesitation in moving down in weight for what he said is to "fight against the best guys in the world, every time." Anderson has stated Wanderlei’s move is "pretentious." And the war of words continues!

Looks like Silva is going to have his hands full in both classes. Some big guns are coming for him.

Yeah because Lebel and Wanderlei Silva are the same fighter, good logic there.
Silva is in trouble with Wandy, not saying Wand will beat him, but he will do more than his last two opponents combined.

no i agree with JoW and have said this previously myself although Wandy is far superior to Leben they are the same type of agressive fighters predominantly swining hooks and overhands and i think Andersons laser precise jabs and crosses will crumble wandy a la Chris Leben fight although i think Anderson will respect Wandy’s power and who knows Wandy could clip him…but i highly doubt it! either way it would be an exciting fight but il concentrate on Wandy – Franklin – it will be a great fight also! :D

thanks randy… I know wandy its 10 times the fighter leben is, im just pretty sure it will end up the same way just a little more longer, and im a big wandy fan but i rather see more wandy vs marquartd

Would be a great fight, but not sure Wandy will be able to make it to #1 contender status to get that fight with Andy. Plus he needs to stop talking about Andy and worry about Franklin.

yea i dont see him beating franklin..i love wandy but hes pretty much in the same place chuck is..hes gone through some bad kos over the past few years just like chuck…rich is a smart fighter..hes only been finished by andy and machida…both of them top 5 p4p in the world..
i just dont see wandy walking in there and beating rich..wandy is gonna run at him full speed and rich will counter him and if it goes to the ground rich will dominate

Me too. I like Wanderlei, but Franklin is just too technical for Wanderlei to be throwin’ haymakers at. I predict a TKO or a split or UD win for Rich.

Wands will crush Franklin, like you never seen before!

Alpha,
Say it aint so. I have to disagree man. If you’re thinking with your head and not your heart, the oddsmakers have it right. Wandy is indeed the underdog. I have a chunk of change on Rich.

I see Franklin ending up like Jardine. Franklin can be as technical as he likes but with his lack of power he more than likely will not be able to knock Wandy out, and I find it hard to beleive that he will avoid getting hit with that knockout punch throughout the whole fight. Wandy is the most aggresive and hard hitting fighter Franklin has faced and the most dangerous since being beaten by Silva (I think more than Henderson), I don’t think his technical skill will see him through to a descision win.
by Ade on Jun 4, 2009 7:41 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ade: I see the fight going pretty much the same way as you do.
IMO, I dont think Rich can KO wanderlei with his hands. HIs only hope of ending the fight is to catch wandy with a Kick, but I dont see that happening. Rich wont be able to withstand the aggressive assualt of the axe murderer. God forbid wandy locks rich into the Tai clinch, Rich will INSTANTLY BREAK MENTALLY!!!! Hope he brings his plastic surgeon to Germany!
sounds like wandy’s trainers are forcing him back to his technical roots. Wandy is very capable of fighting a technical fight which is something that not many people know. Those who doubt me should go back and watch his 1st fight against cro Cop which basically took place under modified K-1 rules, with no judges. THe fight ended in a draw, but wanderlei Clearly got the best of cro cop in that fight. Wandy respected Mirko’s striking so he fought the most technical and intelligent fight that I had ever seen out of his entire career. Sounds like his trainers are emphasizing fighting a technical fight.
I have little doubts that wanderlei will win this fight!
AS for Wandy vs. Anderson. Anderson would def be the favorite but anyone who thinks Anderson would just blow through wandy is CRazy….Andy might win the fight, but he will be tested in the process!

franklin is middle of the pack at best. he’s never beaten anyone near the caliber of wanderlei. to say that franklin is gonna start defeating guys of that caliber at this stage in his career is nuts, in my opinion!

Maybe but at least he doesn’t have the arachnophobia!

I disagree, and I think Dana is hoping wand destroys Rich (secretly of course), he knows not only does wand want to fight anderson, it’ll be a great fight!

uh-oh…i smell trouble, hehe!…Wanderlei’s gonna get “axed-murdered” by the Spiderman…betting my right nut this time.

dont be too sure syd u might end up being less of a man…ur making urself look impotent saying those words…just wait for the ace vs axe fight and you’ll see how greatly in danger spider is..

word on the street is wandy use to kick the spider’s a** all the time in chute boxe. if he could do it then he can do it again

Wanderlei needs to get over himself and actually start winning fights again.
by ramon on Jun 4, 2009 2:07 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wanderlei is the man you need to get off andersons nuts. It was originally Anderson that started talking shit anyway and apparently Wanderlei has knocked him out cold in training so he’s allowed to make a sly comment or two.

Rich via KO on wandy a la Nate quarry KO (long shot but my gut instinct!)
by Randy for Couture on Jun 4, 2009 6:41 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Oh I’d love this fight… I hope they make it happen b4 Wandy loses to somebody on the way. I’d rather see it then Maia or Marquardt rematch vs. Spider. Give Hendo/Bisping winner their due. Then let Wand fight somebody like Cote… and then make it happen!!

Big fan of Wandy but I hate to keep saying this but Wandy is done…there will be no Anderson fight after the Franklin fight…and if they fight Anderson would destroy him, heck he even would have destroyed the Pride Wandy as well…I’m a big Chuck fan as well but no matter how many times I hear that Chuck has had a great camp or is refocused, there comes a time when reflexes, hand speed and the ability to take a punch are gone…Wandy still has that knockout power(Jardine) but everything else seems to have vanished. The notion that fighters don’t develope weak chins are completely false they do all time….it’s called getting old and getting old doesn’t have a number it’s different for all fighters, I hate to bring up boxing but I remeber Sugar Ray Lenard fighting Duran, Hearns and Hagler and taking their bombs on his chin and not even blicking, but then as his reflexes were begining to fade and his chin getting weaker he was getting knocked down and hurt by fighters like who in the past would never have hurt him, eventaully he got knocked out by Hector Camacho, that says it all!!!! Wandy owned Jackson, they both were going back and forth trading shots, now he gets knocked out by one of those punches that in the past he proved he could take, Henderson same thing, first he was able to take his shots, now he can’t and again with Cro Cop….all this being said, I will be rooting hard for Wandy with my heart but my mind already knows the outcome.

I was a big Wand fan but after hearing him run his mouth like this over and over again…..it’s obvious that he knows his career is almost over so his trying to stir up some drama so he can secure his stay at the UFC a little longer. Anderson Silva completely ignores all of Wand stupid statements. You would think that dumb ass wand would get the picture geez what a moron. Concentrate on the Rich Frankling fight first becuase if you loose this one you will be on thin ice with Dana White. Try winning at least 3 in a row and then talk about the spider…Dick head!

Wanderlei Silva is THE MAN!
He fought people in heavyweight, light heavyweight, when he normaly is a middleweight.
I SAY WANDERLEI ALL THE WAY !!!

Said this on another thread yesterday, but I met Forrest the other day at his book signing and he said Wandi is looking NASTY in training and he thinks that he will be Rich.
Granted they are training partners so he’s not gonna say “he’s gonna get knocked out Nate Quarry style” but still. Forrest also said Wandi can be an animal in the cage 1 minute, and then turn around and be like “hey! come meet my kid”. He said it is extremely bizzare haha.

Wanderlei will make Andy look like a normal striker in this match up. The main difference here is that Wandy knows for a fact he can KO the champ.
by Insain on Jun 4, 2009 9:40 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wandy needs to focus on Franklin first.
by donkeyballs on Jun 4, 2009 12:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wand needs to think one fight at a time, he has Franklin next, after the fight he could star talking of a next possible fight
by MARIO MAYANS on Jun 4, 2009 12:24 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I dont remember reading Silva saying any thing about Wandy.
But anyway, hes got to get past Franklin. Which I think hes got a big problem with!
