Yushin Okami shooting for September return and possible Silva rematch

Quoteworthy:
"I'd torn my ligament around the end of April. I really wanted to fight (Dan Miller), but the doctor had stopped me. He told me I would recover by June if I sit still. Currently I'm focused on upper-body training, and by July I will be back to my usual regimen. I want to get back into the Octagon, if possible, to fight in September. I believe [Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin] will be a good fight. (Silva) does best at 185 but I don't think it's a wrong decision to fight in 205. The records say I won but I really lost the match (against Silva). But I believe because of this fight I've grown stronger. The next time I fight him things will be different. I am confident of that."
The last man to own a victory over UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, Japan’s Yushin Okami, talks about a possible September return and a desire to rematch the Brazilian arachnid. Okami was set to battle Dan Miller at UFC 98 before his knee imploded during training, effectively shelving him for five months. "Thunder" has won seven out of eight UFC fights, putting him firmly in line for an eventual rematch with the champ, who coughed up the "W" at Rumble on the Rock 8 back in 2006 courtesy of a disqualification (illegal kick).

Okami is the only one left until Hendo smashes Bisping to even come close to an interesting fight

I for one would love to see Silva smash this pussy, but why waste one of the last fights on his contract!
Off to play poker fellas!

This will make it 3 wasted fights in a row for Silva. I seriously want to see Marquardt get a rematch. Hopefully he gets by Maia, and then they can dance.

Your completely incorrect, thats totaly BS and you know it. Okami had him on the ground and then he side kicks Okami out of nowhere. I know its completely unintentional but if you get clipped once in a fight it becomes easier to get clipped again. Thats why they don’t force fights after an accidental knock like that.

No way that blow was illegal as fuck, I mean I know the ending sucked but that was not okami’s fault don’t punish him, punish silva with the loss.

Take a point, take 5 min. and recover. He took the easy way out and his win bonus!

this is supposed to be a real sport…so the deserving should fight for titles. Okami deserves it. I know he isnt exciting, but he deserves it so let him fight!

Isnt it already set in stone that winner of Hendo/Bisbing will face Silva? I also heard that the UFC and OKami do not have a good relationship..Anyone know if thats true?

Well, Rampage’s immediate title shot against the winner of Rashad and Machida was set in stone as well.. I now don’t trust what the UFC says will happen until fight agreements are signed.

it must be true that okami isnt liked by the company. they dont like guys who go to a decision, ie machida before his last few fites. All this guy does is keep on winning. I think his with franklin really killed him, not b/c he lost but b/c he didnt show up for the first two rounds. the guy is 7-1 in his ufc career, 2 wins by tko, 1 by sub, and 4 by decision. there is no reason why he doesnt deserve a title shot. Of all the other four contenders, Maiea, marquart, hendo, and bisbing, I think Okami is better than all of them and could be every single one of them. But its clear the ufc isnt about putting the best fighters against each other anymore, they was to put on the fites that will sell the most ppvs, and him against silva wouldnt be a big draw.

The Rampage comparison isn’t the same. The title shot was his, he turned it down. The UFC didn’t take it from him. And Okami has done everything in his power, other than beat Franklin, to earn his shot. He’ll need at least one tune-up fight before getting in with Silva, but his overall body of work is worthy of a title shot.

Well he admits he feels he lost to silva
I think the only danger okami provides against silva are takedowns and possibly lay n pray a decision
But silvas td defense seems much better now
Both fighters improved id still have my money on silva hands down tko in 2nd

maia/marquart vs okami would be a nice match up. winner gets fight after hendo/bisp. maybe. really would have liked to see franklin fight marquart.

GTFO Okami, Marquardt and Maia and Hendo AND Bisping are ahead of you, go away.

If Wanderlei beats Franklin, have him make his move down to 185 against Okami, if he loses then have Okami fight the winner of Maia/Marquardt for next in line after Bisping/Hendo winner.
Okami has all the tools to be a great fighter, he is just missing that intensity and finishing ability. I remember before whenever everybody hated on Lyoto and look where he is now…

This will be an extremely boring fight and likely go to decision. Silva will win, but he will get booed in the process. Not a good fight for Silva until he has some more thrillers under his belt.

I think hes been more deserving than Cote or Leites. You got to give him that.
