UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian (155-pound limit)

Round one: Penn comes out aggressive. Head kick from Florian blocked. Leg kick from Florian is caught and Penn lands a right that puts Ken Flo on his butt but only for a minute. Nice elbow from Penn as Florian gets back up against the cage. Both guys are tied up in the ring. Elbow from Penn. Their tied up against the fence now and Penn is trying to land some rights. Florian gets free and now is going for a take down on Penn while their clinched up against the fence. Penn slips out and lands a good right. Florian goes for a single leg and cant finish it. Penn ducks under a left and lands a big right!!! Florian looks rocked, and then Penn charges in and lands a flying knee!! Another right from Penn and thats the bell. Penn took that one 10-9 but it was pretty close until the last minute flurry.

Round two: Florian looking to keep some serious distance from Penn. Leg kick from Florian, and then he charges in and their clinched against the fence once again. BJ with underhooks. They get free'd up once again. BJ with a slow methodical pace trying not to gas himself and Ken Flo looks a little more hectic trying to push the pace and the fight. Florian again goes for a double leg and Penn is having none of it. Penn in the clinch lands a decent knee. Florian misses one of his patented elbows. Florian misses with a superman punch. Penn with a lazy looping left and Florian goes for a single and Penn is stopping it once again but Penn is starting to gas. BJ with a great uppercut and then a left hook on the button. Head kick from Florian. Leg kick from Florian. Thats the bell, a close close round id give it to Penn 10-9 but Florian could have won it easily.

Round three: Head kick from Florian misses. Florian goes in for another take down Penn lands a knee while their clinched up against the fence. Nice elbow from Penn and a uppercut from Penn also. Florian didnt do much up against the cage but for some body shots. Florian with a good right and Penn lands a solid left. Florian once again grabs the single leg walks Penn over to the cage and is holding on. Good knee and then right hook from Penn. Florian again pushes him up against the cage and is just content to hold him there. Penn sits down and hits a switch escapes and lands a good right. Florian looks for a superman punch but gets hit with a sharp right from Penn. Again id say 10-9 Penn although it was another close round. Florian cant seem to do much in the clinch up against the cage.

Round four: Kenny attacks and Penn catches him with a good right. Again Florian presses him up against the cage. Penn lands two really good uppercuts and then gets a big double leg take down. Penn looking to pass. Florian with some good elbows from the bottom but Penn is landing some of his own from half guard. Penn is looking to pass to mount. Penn starting to land some big rights now. Nice elbow from Penn. Penn jumps into full mount now and hes landing some big shots and Florian is covering up and he gives up his back!!! BIG left elbow from Penn now. Penn now gets his back again and locks in a rear naked choke and its in tight!!! Thats it!!! BJ Penn with a HUGE submission victory.

Final result: BJ Penn defeats Kenny Florian via submission (rear naked choke) in round four

-end-

Forrest Griffin vs. Anderson Silva

Round one: Both guys are circling looking for some feel and distance. Nice leg kick from Griffin but Silva catches it lands a glancing right and then a leg kick of his own. Inside leg kick from Griffin. Silva charges forward and then lands a right that drops Griffin but doesnt hurt him. Griffin gets up and smiles. Silva was patient and didnt charge. Griffin throws some punches and Silva taunts him. Silva standing in front of Griffin with a Roy Jones bob and weave and drops him with a straight left!!!! Griffin gets up and seems to be throwing marshmallows. Griffin charges in and Silva lands a straight right while backing up. Griffin goes down and hes out!!! WOW, Silva wins on a punch that didnt even look to be that powerful I am AMAZED that Forrest Griffin did not get back up after that punch. None the less Silva once again dominates.

Final result: Anderson Silva defeats Forrest Griffin via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

-end-

Amir Sadollah vs. Johny Hendricks

Round one: Leg kick from Amir. Head kick from Amir blocked. Another leg kick from Sadollah. Hendricks lands two big lefts and now he lands a bunch of unanswered uppercuts dirty boxing style. Sodollah falls and Hendricks is pouring it on. Sodollah is trying to get to his feet but the ref stops it!!! Wow that was a definite early stoppage there. Hendricks did some serious damage with some heavy shots, and very well could have finished it but the ref stopped it early.

Final result: Johnny Hendricks defeats Amir Sadollah via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

-end-

Kendall Grove vs. Ricardo Almeida

Round one: Almeida charges in and is going right for his bread and butter with a take down attempt. Grove with a thai clinch up against the fence using his reach. Nice elbow from Grove and Almeida is still trying to work the take down. Nice looping right from Almeida as he charges in. Nice body kick from Grove lands with a snap and Almeida tries to use the leg for a take down but Grove stuffs it again. Grove with a brief guillotine attempt. Grove is really working the underhooks to his advantage. Almeida with a body lock and leg sweep finally gets a take down. Grove stands up Almeida with his feet but cant slip out. Almeida right back on top in full guard. Almeida to half guard. Almeida now into side control and Grove is using the fence to stop from giving up his back. Grove stands up using the fence but Almeida with a big pickup slam and is right back on top. Thats the bell and while Grove did amazing early on with his take down defense and clinch Almeida capitalized late and won the round. 10-9 Almeida.

Round two: Almeida fake right and goes right to the double leg take down and gets it. Grove with a tight full guard. Grove slips right to the arm bar and has it locked in tight!!!!!! Almeida is in trouble!!!! WOW but somehow he slips out. Back to full guard of Grove Almeida is counting his lucky stars. Grove almost pulled a shocking submission. Body triangle from the bottom from Grove. Grove just working some elbows now. Almeida now working some good ground and pound with some solid punches. Almeida now into side control after Grove attempts a knee bar. Grove gets back half guard, but Almeida is landing some serious punches and elbows. Grove back to the feet. Nice knee from Grove, and Grove lands a great uppercut that snaps the head of Almeida back and then a BIG knee right on the chin. Almeida just holding onto the legs trying to get back his bearings and Almeida then gets another take down right at the bell. Grove actually was winning early in the 1st 2 mins with an amazing arm bar attempt but Almeida recovered. 10-9 Almeida.

Round three: Inside leg kick from Almeida. Almeida with a slippery right and then jumps right into another take down. Grove walks up the cage and is right back to his feet. Good knees from Grove to the stomach. Nice jab from Grove as they separate. Almeida looks tired and jumps down to the mat sloppily. Grove with two big elbows and then let him up. Almeida looks gassed. Nice knee from Grove. Almeida tired and gassed dives into another take down and is lucky to get that one. Grove trying to land punches from the bottom and briefly goes for an oma plata. Nice elbow from Grove from the bottom. Almeida just riding out the clock at this point. Grove rolling over for a kimura and gives up on that. Grove kicks off Almeida and jumps to his feet. Almeida lands a good right and now goes for another double leg but doesnt have the gusto to finish it off and Grove is landing mutiple elbows at the bell. Grove looked good and probably did much more damage and put in much more work along with an amazing near finish with an arm bar, but Almeida held the dominant position all fight.

Final result: Ricardo Almeida defeats Kendall Grove via Unanimous Decision

-end-

Kurt Pellegrino vs. Josh Neer

Round one: Neer with a right and Pellegrino lands a solid one of his own. Neer with a front kick and Pellegrino with a good body shot then goes for the double leg take down and nails it. Pellegrino jumps into half guard now. Neer works his way back to full guard and Pellegrino is working some elbows. Neer looking for an arm bar now. Kurt slides his way out and now working hammer fists. Neer locks in an arm bar!!! But pellegrino manages to slam his way out of it. Nice right from Kurt. Neer now looking for a triangle. Pellegrino gets to half guard and lands a big elbow now and is peppering in some body shots. Pellegrino smothering Neer, but Neer is keeping him honest with great submission attempts from the bottom and thats the bell. Pellegrino gets it 10-9 but he didnt do much and Neer seemed very close to a good submission locking in.

Round two: Neer has a small mouse under the left eye and cut on the bridge of his nose. Leg kick from Neer finds its mark. Both guys land a leg kick simultaneously. Nice right left combo from Pellegrino. Big right from Pellegrino and then he shoots in and has one leg while Neer sprawls out. Pellegrino relentless and sucks it in and finishes the take down. Neer tries and almost gets a triangle choke but Pellegrino again slips out. Full guard for Neer as Pellegrino tries to improve position. Nice right from Pellegrino. Nice elbows from the bottom from Neer. Neer with another brief arm bar attempt but misses and now he goes right to another triangle attempt and Pellegrino is trying to pass during the attempt and slips into half guard and out of the submission. Pellegrino now in full mount!!! Neer gives up his back and Pellegrino has both hooks and is looking to finish the fight!! Thats the bell, again Pellegrino 10-9 easy for his domination on top. Neer though has been really close to locking in a submission mutiple times so lets see if he wants to keep it on the feet or try to keep working from the bottom.

Round three: Body kick from Pellegrino and Neer with a front kick. Pellegrino dives in and lands another take down effortlessly hes 3 for 3. Familiar spot for both fighters as Pellegrino is on top in the dominant position, while Neer tries to lock in a desperate submission attempt instead of trying to work his way back to his feet. Elbow from Neer on the bottom and it looks like Pellegrino is bleeding from the top of his head. Pellegrino posturing up to do some damage. Neer with another triangle attempt and again Pellegrino shrugs it off with ease. Half guard for Neer and Pellegrino is still working his way to the mount. Full mount for Pellegrino!! Neer slips out and is finally on top himself but with only 30 seconds left its too little to late. Back to the feet and Pellegrino goes for a take down and Neer sprawls out and now is landing some big elbows on Pellegrino unanswered!!! Thats the bell there was not enough time left for Neer and Pellegrino should take this fight unanimously.

Final result: Kurt Pellegrino defeats Josh Neer via Unanimous Decision

bj Penn got this by whatever he wants in the 2nd round, after his lost to gsp he’s gonna come in focused

Anderson silva tko in the first round

we will have a new LW champion after this, bj is overrated, and the rest of MMA has passed him by, becuse of his laziness, lack of commitment, and motivation. k-flo by tko 4th round

by dtoto on May 31, 2009 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol, BJ is the best LW in the world and has only lost at WW to Hughes (who he beat when he was in his prime) and GSP!

by kevin on May 31, 2009 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope Kenny breaks his jaw so he cann’t talk after the fight. BJ is the best right now but Florian is on a roll! And Anderson vs. Forrest? Where have I been? Awsome fight. I like Forrest so I think Silva has bitten off more than he can chew. Also, I would hope they show Alessio Sakara vs. Thales Leites, and George Sotiropoulos vs. Rob Emerson.

lol, Silva “bitten off more than he can chew” in Forrest? Maybe if he were fighting Fedor at 205, but Forrest?

by kevin on May 31, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Silva by TKO. Stop hating on BJ guys, you may not like him but you can’t deny a man’s talent because you hate him.

BJ is amazing at 155 and considered to be the best in the world by 90% or more of the MMA community at 155.

With a loss to GSP (who is HUGE compared to BJ) everyone thinks BJ isn’t any good anymore? I think his new focus and dedication will be shown against a very game Kenny.

Relax Bennie, AKA “BJ nut hugger”. I know GSP was bigger. BJ has a BIG mouth and needs to stop acting like a sissy. There I will say it!!! He is the best 155 out there right now and that is why he is champ.. But Kenny has earned this shot and I think he will take it.

by iagoof22 on May 31, 2009 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

BJ and Kenny both at their best: BJ takes it hands down.
BJ off and Kenny at his best: Kenny has a solid chance.
I know Kenny will be at his best.
I don’t know if BJ will be at his best.
So I put a little on Kenny knowing I might lose it.
Thant was my logic.

Having said that, I dumped a lot of money on Neer. I bet on McCrory and Silva (even though I will pull for Forrest), but Neer is my money boy. I will be biting my nails during that fight.

BJ! BJ ! BJ! WOW, ADAM G, I know you copied the list of who was on who’s side, I said RNC 4th rd, that was my prediction, ADAM G confirm it. I said BJ PENN wins 4th rd RNC, best prediction I ever made. And A. Silva, I am completely WOW’d by, I thought Forrest was gonna put up a fight, but wow. That was crazy, Silva is such a monster, I have to take back all bad things I said about his last 2 performances. I was wrong, and I am not ashamed to admit it. I will eat my words on everything I said about A. Silva, his striking skills are insane.

how is he overated at lw,he has long been known as the best LW in the world, and I really do not like BJ,but your statement is just plain ignorant, you should have your MMA fan card pulled.I will be pulling for Florian, but I am not stupid enough to say that Cry baby J is not the ,as of right now, best LW in the world .

I would be surprised if Kenny defeats BJ.. I’m a fan of both Martial Artists.. BJ Penn @ 155 is Micheal Jordan in his Prime.. unbeatable.. Wow.. Anderson Silva 2.. is blazing this card hot fire. My bleak reality puts me.. every few minutes or so.. on this forum.. to check out the results.. I’m thankful just that at this point.

by PhilQNY on Aug 8, 2009 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not too smart picking against BJ after he had a bad showing last time. Same goes for the Spider. Both guys were dominant as I expected to prove to everybody they still are the rulers as champions.

by sudnvictory on Aug 9, 2009 1:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ok buddy first all. Whos takin Bj anytime soon! Kenny was the Number one contender bucko and still Bj worked his the entire fight.

Everyone whos a champ in the UFC is gonna be there for a while gaurenteed.
UFC has broughtin itself to a level noone expected.
The Champs and The Best fighters in the world. They’re all unstoppable.
George St, Pierre Rapped Thiago Alves all five rounds.
Anderson Silva makin griffin, look like a little girl and doesnt even make it out of the first round.
BJ Penn, Leave him alone. Homeboy’s a G!
Lesnar, Beast straight up
Lyoto Machita, whoopid rashads ass.
Stop hatin on the champs.
there champs for a reason!

god damn! you fall for any promotion scam, do you actually watch the fights, you probably picked BJ= blowjob to beat gsp, bj got lucky aganced hughs, they keep saying he beat hughs when he was at his best, the fight was one of hugh least entertaining fights, like he didnt care about defending the belt anymore, bj barely beat pulver, shit i could beat pulver, i know theres alota fags that like mma, especially blowjob fans,,…oh im sorry….*bj fans, time and time again these losers come on here picking the stupidest fighters, actualy im disappointed that this is all the lightwaights have to offer as a champ, i can name 20-30 fighters better then blowjob, anyways dont fall for anymore dicksuckers opinions like this guys, also amir sucks as well, look for the upset

by randy murders on Aug 8, 2009 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just out of Curiosity, would you please name the 20 or 30 fighters tht are better then BJ at 155#. That maybe the most ridiculous statement made hands down in any MMA Forum in the last 5 years that I have been in them. So you pick’em better then the pros and the fighters themselves? The over all majority of fighters, not keyboard warriors, FIGHTERS have BJ as the #1 155#er. Please back your statement up with facts, not opinions…

weak card

by JRE on May 31, 2009 12:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

only 2 fight deserving of main card status imo, even though i’m a huge fan of Pellegrino, and watching him kick the sh*t out of Neer will be really cool, it’s still not main card ppv worthy. It would make a great fightnight co main event though.

by JRE on May 31, 2009 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I mean really Amir S? 1st fight in the ufc after winning tuf like 3 years ago? UNDERCARD!! and dont even get me started on how uninteresting Kendell grove is…

by JRE on May 31, 2009 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s exactly what i thought when i saw the lineup. Pellegrino is the definition of a choke-artist. He’s got world beater skills but i won’t ever bet on him to step up.

by NameNotRequired on May 31, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

More like how uninteresting Ricardo Almeida is. Kendall is not a dull fighter by any means. Getting knocked out or dishing out punishment, Kendall brings it. He’s gonna knock out Almeida I think.

Pellegrino/Neer you say is co-main event for UFN, but not MAIN CARD worthy of a PPV?? lol. Thats dumb logic there. Co-main event UFN usually are PPV openers… which is what that fight is. And Neer will break Pellegrino.

I think Kenny can outwork BJ till the final bell, but I dont think he can finish him. I think if BJ wins, it will be in the 2nd round. If not, Kenny is new champ.

And I hope Forrest wins, but I’m being realistic, so Anderson by TKO in the 2nd.

by Synyster on May 31, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought you said you’re being realisitic about forrest?

by NameNotRequired on May 31, 2009 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I am. I think Anderson will finish him in the 2nd. I think Forrest is game enough to last a round.

by Synyster on May 31, 2009 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Neer-Batman will be one of the more exciting fights of the year with Neer winning on a late TKO. Kill-Flo via arm triangle in the 4th. I think Forrest tries to use his size to bully Silva against the cage until getting choked out in the 3rd. I hope Sotiropoulis somehow simultaneously breaks Tha Og From Tha OC’s jaw and arm. The rest of the fights do not interest me.

by PW on May 31, 2009 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sounds like someone is a lil sour. I will be leaving for the arean in 3 hours, but why the fuck am i hearing reports about the first bout not starting till 8. On the ticket it says 7:15. 6 fights in 2 hours. Pushin it i think.

Forrest just got knocked the fuck out. And we will see how the florian-Penn fight goes.

by belfort_fan on Aug 9, 2009 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is a good card and a great main event! BJ better be fit and ready for a war because Kenny will be, I am not betting on this fight since it well be a close one to call. Nice to see Kendall back on the show fights, hopefully he’ll stick around for a while. I love Forest but I don’t think he’ll have the game plan to be Anderson and Silva will KO him in the second round, kind like the Sandman.

by mmamac on May 31, 2009 12:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree, one of Forrest’s best weapons is the leg kick, and we all saw how well that one worked for Irvin in his fight against The Spider. (Not to mention how Rashad was able to capitalize on it against Forrest when he took the belt.) Forrest better be focusing on wrestling and closing the distance – if he can use his size as a big 205er he may have a chance in hell of not being utterly dismantled.

i think bj will retire after thus loss, we have to remember bj is 4-4 his last 8 fights, he will realize after this latest loss, he no longer has the heart, or excuses to explain away his losses. todays lws are all well rounded, just as big as bj, stronger, with way better cardio. talent doesnt cut it by itself anymore. hOPE KFLO is an underdog because i will make lots of money

But he is 3-1 in his last four, and the 3 came at 155.

BJ will beat Kenny. Sherk bloodied Kenny up and beat him, out muscled him….I know KenFlo has been on a roll since then….All other things being more or less equal, I think BJ is a bigger, stonger fighter then Kenny and if he comes into the fight with good cardio, he should win by TKO in the 3rd round.Go Neer!!!

LOl bj lost to pulver, a fighter that cant even beat featherweights, hughes is just a gatekeeper, and would get destroyed by the top WWs, facts are BJ is 4-4 his last 8 fights, no matter how you spin it, bj has lost almost one out of evry 3 fights, when kenny finishes him, you will finally wake up and realize how overated he is

No one knows for sure who will win until it happens. How can Bj be over rated!? This dude moves u to heavyweight to fight Machida! Just because of his loss to arguably the top 1 or 2 pound for pound Gsp!? Kenflow is good and I would like to see him win but I dont see it happening unless maybe gsp gave him some pointers on greasing and getting away with it LOL nah but watch this video if you have not already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvk5kp7sRHw and even if he did Ken doesnt have the size and power advantage that gsp had over bj

by El Paladin on May 31, 2009 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

that was many yrs ago, when machida was just starting out, machida and evryone else has evolved, bj has stood still, because he has no dedicaton, discipline, is unmotivated, and trains with a shitty camp. If bj wins more than one round against kflo, i will admitt your right, if he doesnt get bjs nuts away from your chin, and realize he isnt the god you make him out to be

by dtoto on May 31, 2009 11:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

How is Bj not a complete fighter he has sick Bjj (black belt) and he can strike damn good ask sherk or daddy or even gsp on their first fight.. Im not making him out to be a god thats funny though I just call it like I see it. How do you know how he trains or how motivated he is are you training with him?? Bj is the best 55er in the world he is good thats what im saying every1 seems to bash him for his last fight. I like Kenflo but you gotta beat the champ to be the champ. Nuts off my chin haha you are like a chat room tough guy dont post things up here you wouldn’t say in person that shows traits of a coward btw

by El Paladin on Jun 1, 2009 2:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

like i said, the proof will be in the results, watch the fight in august, if bj wins more than one round i will admitt you are right, if kflo wins the fight, and wins at least 4 out of the five rounds, or stops bj before that just admitt you were wrong about how great bj is deal?

You an Ididot Just cause he lost to a huge Gsp Thats nothing to be asahamed of he has 20 lbs of muscle on him!!

by Nor-Cal Mexican (formely phlicutioner) on May 31, 2009 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

BJ was too small compared to GSP and he got owned because of size and strength not to much i think GSP is a much more well rounded fighter but he still has enough to beat K-Flo

Anderson has been boring in his past 2 fights and Griffin never backs down from a fight so this should be an exciting fight. Forrest said it himself a while back:
“Im not that technically gifted but throw me in against anyone at 205 and ill make it a fight”

Cant wait for the main events but the card on a whole is poor!

by SoCalStunNa on May 31, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no bj didnt just get owned because of size and strenght only, he got owned because gsp, is just a more skilled, and better fighter period. even if bj was the same weight, and had the same muscle same thing would happen to him. BJ has more holes in his game than gsp. GSPs overall standup is better than bjs, bj is just a boxer, with no leg kicks, gsps wrestling is better tahn bjs by far, only thing bj has advantage is bjj, and gsp has rapidly closed the gap on that also, as he is a bb bjj also, and goes to brazil to train with the best, we dont have to mention anything, about cardio, dedication, work ethic either, because gsp has bj beat there also, so for all you bj nutthuggers who think gsp only beat bj because of his size you are dead wrong

by dtoto on Jun 1, 2009 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

also gsp has far better takedown defense, and takedowns than bj, sorry forgot to mention that, so give gsp props he is far more skilled

by dtoto on Jun 1, 2009 10:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

GSP does not have better takedown defense than bj. and the weight advantage does play a big part. i am not doggin on GSP he is an amazing fighter and ultimately i think the final result would have been the same had bj gained more muscle but it would have been a more even fight.

well i’ve said before that forrest doesn’t care to be champ..and he says he’s gonna man up for this one..cuz he didn’t care when he fought rashad..i dunno..i see him going a round..maybe two with silva..and he does have all the heart, he is not big on KO power..so really i just see him eating mat..
yes bj is a wicked fighter and i will always love him for handing hughes his first loss..BUT..he better be flawless when he fights cuz his attitude of late has put a real downer on what i think of him…
amir had better be something spectacular too after all this non fight b.s…

I see Forrest taking this one in a decision or surprise submission again. I am not sure why, he just seems to lift on the big occassion’s (most recently Shogun and Rampage). No one gives him a chance in this one, so it will be interesting to see how he performs. Looking forward to it.

What Latino!? The main event and co main event are sweet I truely believe Kenny is going to give BJ his toughest fight at 155 win or lose doesn’t matter if your not cheering for this might be one of the best fights to watch for any MMA fan enjoy it man. And Silva has his biggest test today, I know most believe Silva has too much talent for Forrest but I think Forrest will give us fans once again another great showing. Even if Forrest doesn’t win I think he will get respect for making Silva look at least human for once. And all the other fights or pretty even fights and should equal good entertainment.

Forrest Griffin vs Anderson Silva? Should be a good fight. Two amazing fighters, just, different styles. They both have a chance. I’m pulling for Griffin, and whp knows? That guy will and has pulled threw some pretty tough fights, something that other guys Silva has faced haven’t been able to do. So he has a real shot. I like Silva, but I’m hoping on Griffin to win. And Florian over Penn, any day. BJ is a good fighter, and he lost to GSP, not only because he is larger, but GSP is a good fighter. I just think Florian will do as much as he can to get the belt, and I think BJ won’t commit.

by Captain on Aug 8, 2009 11:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Amir looked like he was getting up..was on his hands and knees the entire time and none of the punches on the ground were hitting.
Personally I think Hendricks would still have finished him.

by Motter on Aug 8, 2009 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Basically Captain Hendricks caught Amir who went down on all 4’s and Hendricks was punching with nothing more than grazing punches while entire time Amir was moving around and looking at Hendricks and was standing back up when the dumb bald ref stepped in and stopped the fight.

omg….. i thought forest had a chance to beat anderson. but after i seen the fight….. anderson is in whole different level.

anderson Vs Machinda would be awesome but i dont think dana would give it that easily. maybe 3-4 more 205 fight anderson might get a fight.

by jhk on Aug 9, 2009 12:03 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

DANA & company want that fight belive me! However, Machida n’ Silva are best friends and training partners… they don’t want to fight eachother and they just may have the necessary star power to keep that from happening. regardless of what fans & the UFC want.

I like Silva, but it’s the truth. He didn’t fight any differently against Griffin than he did against Leites and Cote. Silva stood around taunting them, waiting for the attack so he could counter. The only difference is that Griffin actually did attack, where the other two didn’t.

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He’s got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He’s ingnored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there’s a hang up
You’ll find the Spider man.

Well, if Machida and Silva did fight, Machida would for sure hand him a beatdown. Nobody trains the way he trains. he’s on an entirely different level than anyone—including Anderson.

Where are all the Silva haters now? That was to easy…Silva is and has been on a different level since day 1. Bring in Rob Drysdale know for all of his smear talk, Forrest is going to submit him…Drysdale should have to get into the ring now with Silva for all his idiodic jibber jabber….

by Da Monkey on Aug 9, 2009 12:13 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Silva is and has been on a different level since day 1.

You’re right. Silva is on a different level, but when guys don’t attack him he just keep waiting around to counter instead of attacking himself. It’s probably smart on his part, but boring as hell when he fights somebody who isn’t aggressive.

by prokstar on Aug 9, 2009 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i agree! Robert Drysdale made himself look like a pure idiot. He first should have contemplated the chances of the fight ever going to the ground. Griffin looked tentative with every strike even past the ‘feeling out process’ and that let Silva time his movement. Griffin looked intimidated after the first knockdown. Drysdale would have been safer saying Griffin would knock out Silva. That would have been the safer bet to me with how Silva’s standup looked. Obviously these comments are after the fact, but Drysdale should at least know Silva’s ground game before comparing Griffin’s in the countdown. S*$t, is drysdale looking for a future beatdown from Silva

by Mutorcs on Aug 9, 2009 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think so…Drysdale as BJJ blackbelt himself should know a BJJ black belt from the NOG’s is no joke. Especially considering he wanted to train in their camp. I wonder if he beat Forrest as badly as he did to show up Forrest or to make Drysdale feel like an ass…

Ok I think Florian is going to give BJ his toughest fight at 155lbs since his loss to Jens in 2002. If it goes to rnd 4 that means Kenny is doing a great job and I believe Kenny wins a dec. Either way, Kenny will prove himself tonight as a great 155lb fighter worthy of being in the cage with BJ Penn… now watch me endup eating my words lol!!!

I don’t see Ken as the gatekeeper. I believe Ken is the 2nd best 155er in the world just not good enough to beat BJ.

by rydinlow on Aug 9, 2009 1:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeh right…he was the 2nd best 155er going into the fight. BJ picked him apart in the standup and I don’t even think KenFlo won a round. BJ was just waiting for the break in space after the clinches against the cage to impose his counter boxing will. His gameplan worked and it does make KenFlo look like a gatekeeper with all the effort he exerted to do Jack s@$t against BJ in the 4 rounds. BJ sharpened his conditioning which KenFlo was looking to exploit. KenFlo just didn’t back up s$@t and I’m suprised he continued w his game plan after the first 3 rounds w how BJ looked. He just played into the inevitable takedown ending his demise!

by Mutorcs on Aug 9, 2009 1:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So, since Silva didn’t even break a sweat tonight, can we assume he’ll be fightinh Hendo in Nov/Dec? And I can already smell KenFlo v Carpenter for 155 gatekeeper.

by Mark on Aug 9, 2009 1:05 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Kenny did a good job, considering… BJ just too good at 155lbs. IMO it’s either Diego or Maynard next for BJ… I can’ think of who else can take BJ on and give him a challenge in the UFC? Those are the only 2 guys that come to mind.

by DAVE A on Aug 9, 2009 1:05 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

So, since he didn’t even break a sweat, is it Spider v Hendo in Nov/Dec? And I can smell a Fight Night headliner of KenFlo v The Carpenter from a mile away.

by Mark on Aug 9, 2009 1:08 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Silva is amazing. Made Forrest look like an amateur. Completely outclassed him. Hendo cant match up. Lets see GSP Silva. GSP has the best chance cuz of his commitment to takedowns off late. BJ is a legend enuff said. Great night of fighting

I’m the biggest Silva fan, but I can’t even celabrate that victory. WTF Forrest, you little baby. That was the most pathetic display I have ever seen in the ring. UFC please do not pump this guy up as a guy that has lots of heart, he showed they exact opposite. How the hell do you give up like that? What does Dana White do with this chump now. What a mockery to the 205 weight class and all it’s previous champions.

by MXN on Aug 9, 2009 1:27 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

first timer… BJ is the champ, so he is obviously at the top, its just too bad that he has such a big mouth and no respect, perhaps its just to hype the fights, but Hawaiians are not the most intelligent people (then again, there are alot of ignorant people out there). I can’t believe Forrest’s effort, I am sure he is totally humiliated. Tito has a big mouth too but at least he tried to stand up to the ego maniac Dana W. The fighters should really get together and control the fate of the UFC, most of them get totally taken advantage of, the pay is a joke, and one has to really try to kiss up to Dana if they want to fight, what a shame. Hopefully someone intelligent will unite the fighters and make things a lot more fair.

Thanks

Well, at least Silva did us a favor about clearing up who the #1 P4P is. GSP a complete game, but he doesn’t utterly clown former Champ and make them look like amateurs.

Only Machida can hand with Silva and I don’t believe they will fight. That fight might also be one in which neither guy can lad a strike.

Thank the mma gods that BJ won and he won like he did. That was could not have been more needed after the GSP fight.

He wasn’t hit with a significant strike all fight, he defended the takedowns brilliantly, he showed strength and condition (thank you Marv) and he f’n FINISHED THE FIGHT.

RNC, baby. The classic Penn finish.

Diego is next.

Great job, BJ!

I always wondered what goes on in these sites, pretty entertaining. I think I agree with most things I read that BJ is at the top (or he would not be champ) but his big mouth & lack of respect makes him a hard person to cheer for (like Brock) is it so hard to be a gentleman or a good embassador to the sport?). I can’t believe Forrest, it really seemed like he was druged or took a dive, what a shame.
On an other note, as much as I dislike Tito, he did try to stand up to that ego maniac Dana for the rights of fighters, it is ridiculous how badly they pay a lot of fighters, everybody has to be nice to Dana if they want to fight, I mean the guy puts himself on the covers of magazines.
The fighters should all ban and better dictate their fate, instead of being raped by the greed of Dana & the owners of the ufc.

Thanks
