Marcus Davis: Dan Hardy is a 'disrespectful punk' whose face will be Swiss cheese at UFC 99

Props: UFC.com

Quoteworthy:

"'Hate' is a very powerful word, I know.... But I hate my opponent at UFC 99. I hate Dan Hardy. I really can’t stand this guy and I am counting down to days to June 13, to the Lanxess Arena in when I can smash this kid in the mouth. I want to punch holes in this guy’s face. Hardy has gone so far beyond what is professional. This is more than another fight in the UFC for me, more than getting a win and working towards getting a title shot. This is war.... I’ve only met him maybe three times.... On none of these occasions did Hardy have the guts to say anything disrespectful to my face ... like the little coward he is, he’s done all his smack talk from behind his keyboard like a 14 year old living in his mom’s basement.... Hardy, you disrespectful punk, all this crap you’ve been talking hasn’t had the affect you wanted it to. I’m not going into this fight all crazy, swinging wild to give you any kind of chance you know you’ll need to have a prayer of beating me. The only other person I genuinely hated going into a fight was Jess Liaudin, who talked a lot of crap before our fight at UFC 80. And he got knocked stone cold for his disrespect and wasn’t heard from again. All this BS has done has put pressure on you to back up all this talk. You keep saying you are having fun talking all this crap, but your fun time ends in two weeks."

Marcus Davis rips his upcoming opponent at UFC 99: "The Comeback," Dan Hardy, prior to their welterweight "war" at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, on June 13. "The Irish Hand Grenade" and "The Outlaw" have duked it out via verbal fisticuffs before the fight was even booked. Now the heat appears to have reached a crescendo, with Hardy intimating that Davis is exploiting his Irish heritage and it's just a gimmick. Davis also wasn't too fond of a RomoShop contest that Hardy apparently coordinated a month or two ago. So is this beef legit or will the pair hug it out and down a few pints at the pub on fight night?

i hope davis does indeed knock him out! hardy calling him a plastic paddy, usually only used for jackasses who put on an irish accent, i havent heard davis talk like an irishman, besides davis was well recievied in dublin by the fans! being from ireland myself i see no harm in what marcus is doing! does hardy really need this bs to give himself an advantage, is it just hype, or is he really not confident to let his skills do the talking??

by jslim on May 31, 2009 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah Hardy is a mouthy guy for sure. I dont think this is hype either. Close youre mouth and do your job Hardy. Im down with pre-fight shit talk but Hardy has been a bit ridiculous with it. Good luck to you German fans, might get a chance to catch some of his teeth after Davis sends them flying to back row….. and i dont even like Marcus

Marcus and Dan both faced Forrest Petz in 2006. Dan lost by UD, Davis submitted Petz in the 1st.

Oh come on. I can pick any fight and show one fighter winning while another lost to that fighter, it means jack. Also, 3 years is a long time ago and Dan Hardy is better than you give him credit for. Yes I am from England and I will be backing Hardy, but I do wish he would shut his mouth sometimes.

However, he has a point, everytime I see Marcus Davis he is either Welsh, Irish or English before you know it he will start claiming that he is Jamaican as well. Marcus – YOU ARE AMERICAN, just live with it. I am half Welsh and part Irish as well, but I don’t go around telling everyone, as far as I am concerned I am English, that is where I have lived all my life.

by Nuts on Jun 1, 2009 4:28 AM EDT up reply actions

dumbest post I have seen in sometime. Why are you knocking him for celebrating his heritage? HE was born in the United States, but his ancestors were not, so take it easy. He is definitely not a “plastic paddy” and I can’t wait until he smashes that POS Hardy.

by Jake on Jun 1, 2009 7:25 AM EDT up reply actions

First off being Irish-American doesn’t mean you can’t display your roots. America isn’t the land where your forefathers came from, its the land where they came to. So all he is doing is displaying where his ancestory comes from so I don’t see that being big problem. The best part of all is Davis goes into his fights with intent on finishing them. He has lost once in his last nine fights in the UFC and that was by decision to Swick. I really think Hardy picked the wrong guy to try and build his name off of. I was pretty excited when I saw Hardy KO Rory but he’s not going to have that same luck against Marcus. BTW this is some grade a trash talk by Davis, seriously if I were Hardy I’d be shlttlng myself lol. “And he got knocked stone cold for his disrespect and wasn’t heard from again” RIP Dan Hardy

Marcus Davis is the most boring “Self proclaimed exciting fighter” in the sport!

Hardy’s speed will be the difference. Marcus is going down!

by john on Jun 1, 2009 7:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Davis is doing nothing wrong by being proud of his heritage
He got it right when he called Hardy on the gimmick thing
And nuts, I dunno what you’re talking about when you’re sayin that he’s claimed to be English and Welsh. He never once did. I’ve been to 3 shows with him on all of em and he’s always been the Irish hand grenade, he even changed it for a while to Celtic hand grenade I think to avoid any heat from the English fans
I’ve always enjoyed watching him fight, he stands and bangs and does it well enough to only have one loss to Swick who got the better of him with his wrestling

by IrishKev on Jun 1, 2009 7:54 AM EDT up reply actions

Watching a Davis slugfest is about as appealing as watching two tramps fight over a sandwich. It might be entertaining to watch but only because the overall standard of the two fighters is so piss poor you always end up with a highlight reel KO. Davis has fought what 9 times in the UFC??? The best guy he fought’s Swick and got thoroughly beaten. If I’d fought nine times at WW and won 8, I’d at least want to have fought Kos, Hughes, Serra or somebody in the top 10. That tells you how good this guy is and how highly regarded he is in the UFC pecking order.

by attakdog on Jun 1, 2009 8:20 AM EDT up reply actions

So he loses one out of nine fights and he’s no longer relavant? Is Swick who has really only lost to Yushin so irrelavant as well? Your a tool plain and simple. Probably also from the UK so it makes sense why your hating.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jun 1, 2009 9:23 AM EDT up reply actions

good post attack dog! I think he knows he is old, and is happy padding his record by fighting b-level fighters. Problem is, HARDY is NO JOKE!!!! I love Hardy in this fight via decision!

Its cool to be proud of your heritage, but come on man….Davis doesnt even ever fight in the USA anymore. I am a thousand times more Italian than Davis is Irish. I speak and read the language Fluently. I spend about 2 months per year in Italy where ALL OF MY FAMILY STILL LIVES. I even have duel citizenship…making me a citizen of Italy and America…..but I am an AMERICAN 1st and foremost. Davis has basically alienated all his American fans, and I agree with Hardy, that this is rather gimmiky.

i think the whole Irish persona is much more of a gimick then Hardy rocking a red MOhawk. The guys is an english Punk rock fan who loves the sex pistols. The way he dresses and looks is no different than a white American kid who loves rap music and dresses in Baggy Rocawear clothes….NOTHING wrong with that! tO each his own. I think Hardy is GENUINLY himself….and I dont get that same feeling from Davis!

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 1, 2009 9:34 AM EDT up reply actions

I am from England Corgito, you are correct, that has nothing to do with my hatred though. It’s all to do with the fact that he’s a fraud who claims he’s this great oi-rishman just because his great great great grandfather once found a four leaf clover and drank a pint of guinness. The truth is Davis is about as Irish as I am mongolian. I cant stand fakes!

You are also correct that Davis is irrelevant. Okay he’s only lost one out of nine but all his wins have come against UK cans who clearly arn’t good enough for the UFC that’s why his record looks so impressive and it’s why he’s fighting fellow bum Dan Hardy and not next in line for a crack at GSP!

by attakdog on Jun 1, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah Alpha, i got the 2nd info that you posted. THanks again man!

by john on Jun 1, 2009 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Hardy is a prick but is right to call Davis a “plastic paddy”. He claims to be so oi-rish, yet was born and raised in America, so were his parents, and fights under the American flag yet still claims to be this big Oi-Rishman parading round in a kilt. Total Fake! My great grandfather was born in Scotland but you dont see me staggering round the streets glugging whiskey, whilst wearing a kilt and blowing bagpipes! The facts are you can’t claim to be more Irish than any other bloke in America.

Your a sh!t fighter too Davis! You’ll probably win this one coz you’ve made your living KOing British cans and Hardy’s a big headed tool who’s bound to think he’s Bruce Lee after he KO’d the bloke with one working lung in London, so he’ll stand and trade and you’ll KO him. Means nothing though coz Hardys not top 20, never will be, you’ve only fought Swick who is and got thoroughly beaten. Davis you’re a bum, retire so I dont ever have to see you clogging up yet another European show!

What?Syn,which fight make you believe that Hardy’s a top 25 WW and can survive 1rnd with Davis?Gono??…Hardy lose to Petz,Baron,Yoshida(Baron and Yoshi are actually good, but still…)Baron and Petz skills are No way near Davis game!

Davis is going to ‘SMASH HARDY’

by DAVE A on Jun 1, 2009 3:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Davis is old. Hes going NO WHERE in the division. Hardy, Saunders, Hazelett, those guys are the future of the WW division…. And I like Davis a bit more than Hardy, and the guys I like always lose, so I’m trying something different for 99. lol

by Synyster on Jun 1, 2009 9:03 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL!I hope for you that’s gonna work!
True though…Davis is going no where near the top of the WW division!

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 1, 2009 9:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Davis is an old man, content on padding his record by beating b-level fighters. LIke Syn said, guys like Hardy, Saunders, Hazlett, Rumble are the future of the WW division. Davis is what he is, a solid welterweight that will NEVER crack thew top 10. Hardy is improving so much from one fight to the next that bringing up his old fights against Petz, Baron, and Yoshida really HOLD NO WEIGHT in this debate.

MMAmath NEVER adds up, especially when dealing with a young fighter that is constantly improving. When their careers are over, Hardy will go down as the much more accomplished fighter…Only question is if he has ALREADY Surpassed Davis….My guess is YES!!!!!!

Hardy FTW! I dont even like Punk Rock music, but I would love to go out n have a drink with Hardy. Dude seems really cool and Brash and I like that! Guess its the same reason I am such a Bisping fan!

by john on Jun 1, 2009 9:35 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t see why his loss resume HOLD NO WEIGHT in this debate?
Your the first to bring resume of fighters when you bash at them or trying to explain your point of view!
If you, consider the cans that he face in the last 3 years improvement then i’ll say to you like you say to other YOUR NUTS OR CRAZY.The,only improvement that i can notice is that he got able to win a SPLIT decision over Gono. And please don’t tell me that Rory Markham is a great achievement either.Stop smoking, one second and go see the cans that he face and then comeback,so we can continue to argue!

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 1, 2009 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions

John, I agree that these two may be meeting at a crossroads for both of them. Hardy, still learning and adding to his arsenal and Davis may be running out of opponents that his skilk set matches up with.
However, I don’t think Davis is far enough past his prime to be overwhelmed by Hardy. The truth is, due to both of thier fighting styles, this could go either way. I’m just giving Davis the edge in this one.

By the way, even though I think Hardy is a big mouth, he showed some class when he went on tour to visit wounded US troops.

by Jrandolph on Jun 1, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

I had Davis at No.10 at the time of the Swick fight, but he dropped right back down then.

One guy who I was surprised to find out that was rather old was Koscheck. Here I was thinking he was 29 AT MOST, only to find hes 31.

Alpha, I’ll either be right or happy as far as results go. I think my deal was picking the guys I liked to win, even when I kinda thought the other guy was going to win. But NO MORE! I will pick intelligently from now on!

by Synyster on Jun 1, 2009 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions

*Skill

by Jrandolph on Jun 1, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL!I still got that problem!
I’m always picking my fav fighter even if i’m certain that i’m gonna lose. When 2 of my favorites fight each other i’m picking for the one that i have follow for the longer laps of time.Even if the other one is better!
Not really smart i know but it make the victory even better in those circumstances.
Yep!I should learn,to to pick more intelligently too!Especially when it’s time for betting!

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 1, 2009 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah… betting on favorites doesn’t end well… experience talking there…

by Synyster on Jun 1, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

alpha…I dont think it hold much weight when you talk about really young fighters that are constantly improving or I dont think past fights hold much weight when we are talking about declining and aging fighters. For example, talking about how Chuck LIddell knocked Babalu’s head off 5 years ago, doesnt help when analyzing how his last fight owuld play out…or another Example: A guyy like Saunders who is young and improving at a tremendous rate, cant really use his old fights to analyze his fight with Swick…I base analysis on young fighters but what I see in the Octagon, not really what I see them do against their opponents, like speed, technical striking, footwork, jits, clinch game. If you got speed and great footwork against a can, its not going to disapear when you face a better fighter. Skills are skills! THats just my two cents on the matter…Not saying I am right and your wrong, but Im just saying what I take into account when analyzing a fight! agree to disagree!

YOU never once heard me boast about his win over Markham! I based my prediction on his much improved footwork, and speed! I dont think he will dominate davis at all!…but If you asked me to make a prediction I would say Hardy wins a split decision.

I say bet money on 3 underdogs: Hardy, Saunders and Caol Uno! At least 2/3 of those dogs will win!

by john on Jun 1, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I will say if you think a young fighter getting a win over a crafty veteran like GOno isnt impressive…then you are just hating. i know it was a split decision…buts its the natural progression of a young fighter. when its all said n done, I think Hardy will be a pretty good fighter!

by john on Jun 1, 2009 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Fair enough john!
I,can guaranteed you that if he wins over Davis you won’t hear me say another bad words about him!
And thanks for your input of underdogs i,will take it in consideration when it,would be time of betting!

Hopefully Davis is mature enough not to let his hate dictate how he fights. Wading in swinging for the fences would play right into Hardy’s hands (or more likely, fists).

He needs to channel all this energy into a good game plan.

by Soups on May 31, 2009 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

Dan Hardy going to knock out the little wanna be Micky, and then beat the rest of the posers at 170, although he will never beat GSP, he is still going to make a bang in the WW division.

by bigmcmac on May 31, 2009 7:33 PM EDT reply actions

Wanna be Micky? The term Mick originated here in america . Hardy has a long way to go in the WW div before he smell GSPs jock. Time for Davis to knock him back down to earth, and hopefully his fans too.

by Mike on May 31, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Hardy’s in for a beating. How real is the hate? Will they hug it out? Or will Davis punk him off like Clementi did on Guillard? I give Clementi respect for being real.

Would that make Rampage & Rashad “fake” African Americans?

I kinda like Hardy’s spunk but have been a Davis fan for a long time. I wish Hardy would cool it with all the “we’re better across the pond talk”. The whole premise is ignorant at best.

Anyway, I see Davis taking this one.

by Jrandolph on May 31, 2009 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Actully yes, most “African Americans” have never been to Africa and dont follow its culture and traditions, never mind making any effort to improve living conditions, education, the effects of drought, disease, civil war, economic disater or political corruption in the continent they claim as their motherland.
The term “african american” is really just pandering to PC ideals.
I do agree that Davis takes this one, gnp finished with an armbar.

by PanicZoo on May 31, 2009 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Preaching to the choir, man. My point is, let a fighter say that about either of those guys and we’ll be issuing apologies all day.

On the other hand, Hardy is speaking out of ignorance when he refers to Davis as a “phony” Irishman. The U.S. is a relatively new nation, and many people (myself excluded) still have strong ties to thier “motherland”

by Jrandolph on May 31, 2009 10:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Good point, I guess the Irish arent as sensetive as Africans. One thing worse than being a fake ireshman is beaing a real Englishman.

by PanicZoo on Jun 1, 2009 3:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Hardy is being a “punk” but Davis does go overboard on his Irish roots. Surprised he doesnt have a pint of Guiness in his hand as he walks to the octogan to the song Wild Rover.

First off, it aint war, jackazz. Then he slams the guy for “talking from behind his keyboard”, just like he has done all over the internet and on the UG. I gotta say, I prefer it when these knuckleheads lay off the boxing-style hype and just be respectful to each other.

I’m looking forward to this fight, I think that both guys have done a great job hyping it up, it’ll be interesting to see whether Hardy has broken Davis mentality and taken him out of his gameplan or whether he simply po’d Marcus and made him more dangerous. I think that both guys will hug it out at the end but I’d love to see the winner punk out his opponent, the Clementi crotch chop was really funny and hasn’t been beaten since. I’ve got Hardy by UD, this should be a stand-up war and is my pick for FOTN.

I would love to see Hardy win. I have always felt Davis was a poser and trying so hard to show he has some long distant Irish heritage that it’s lame. Davis is so lame actually, he is right behind Tim Sylvia for MMA’s biggest tool.

by theCloser on Jun 1, 2009 2:21 PM EDT reply actions

actually, what makes him even more of a tool, the kid is obviously poking at Davis, and the dumb monkey is taking it all to heart. Hardy is far more intelligent, and I hope it formulates into a good gameplan. Hardy called him out to get his carreer to the next level, now he is getting inside Davis’ head. And that’s very easy to do apparently, too bad it’s a lonely place.

by theCloser on Jun 1, 2009 2:25 PM EDT reply actions

The whole thing is so silly. Hardy prob has said some stupid things, but it is the fight game! And you cant blame Hardy for calling Davies out, its a big advancement in his career.
But being realistic, I actually see Hardy winning this one.

Why? Because…his arms are a good few inches longer than Davies, and hes a lot faster than Davies too. Hardy will pick at him all night and if it doesnt end early by TKO, I got Hardy with a UD.

(And my choice is nothing to do with the fact Hardy’s gym is about 3 streets away from my house! hehehe)
