chill out Alpha, i’m not upset at all, I just like to hype the fights up and play a little ala Tito Ortiz for us to have some fun.. He showed his italian warrior spirit and that was good enough for me… Diaz has one hell of a chin! hope he takes this fight, he needs to stop playin now

LOL Smith is getting embarrassed, that dude needs to learn how to bob and weave to get his head out of the way! horrible technique from Smith, and Great from DIaz!

Damn that sucks that you got to watch the fights at that hour!
I don’t know much of this Robin Soderling i’ll go with Federer’s for sure!

by Alpha Male 360 on Jun 6, 2009 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
so sad, cause i kinda knew deep inside that Andrei’s mind couldn’t be right.. this is the same thing that happened to Cro COp, you need to get an easier opponent after getting KO’d to get your career back on track..
by RoB on Jun 6, 2009 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
hehe, Clubber Lang is a huge black dude with a mohawk that Rocky fights in Rocky III…
Federer is the favorite but Söderling has beat the better players in the tournament (Nadal, Gonzalez) so i think it’s 50/50..

by RoB on Jun 7, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
so that’s it, I knew Shields was going to win.. Lawler has been overrated for so long for beating guys like Smith and Trigg, he has no ground game and he’s only throwing power punches.. he’s still the same guy that lost all those fights in the UFC…

I actually did quite well. I bombed the Main Event (f^ck Jake Shields, I hate him), and although I am a big AA fan and wanted him to win, I put a bet on Grimm. I called Diesel, Whitehead (who should change his nickname) and Diaz. Didn’t make a prediction on the Calvacante fight, or the rest of the undercard.
by Synyster on Jun 7, 2009 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Anybody that’s smart knew to bet on Grimm… There were too many factors working against Arlovski coming into this fight but everybody was just staring blind (as usual) at the fighters names thinking OOh Arlovski is gonna dominate Rogers “who is he, he hasn’t fought any real fighters” just like people thought/think after Mir beat Nogueira that he’s gotta be a top 5 HW in the world now, cause it said on paper that MIr beat the man named Nogueira…
The physical and the mental factors coming into fights are crucial and overlooked for the most part, once you hesitate you’re done and im sad that it happened to Andrei here.. That was also what happened in the Shogun/Forrest n Mir/Nogueira fights with Maurizio n Nog coming in injured, problem is that u never know anything up until the fight starts..
now right after the fight you think that smart thing for Andrei should have been to match him up against a BJJ fighter or atleast somebody without that much punching power, you could almost tell that Andrei was afraid by the look in his eyes before the fight… bad management!…
I also think that something many ppl are bad at recognizing in MMA, is that after you get KO’d once and twice ur never going to be the same mentally, it takes time to recover and reuild confidence these guys are not robots lol…

I got Whitehead, Baroni, Diaz, AA and Lawler winning their respective fights. We’ve already had one shock with Feijao getting KO’d..I just hope AA doesn’t get KO’d by Grim so all the Fedor haters can once again decree that he isn’t P4P no. 1.

That’s exactly what I hate about the Diaz boiz… nuthin’ but punks. He could have easily been gracious in victory – he completely dominated Smith. Instead, he trashes Smith’s training partners and camp. Nice.

I feel so bad for saying it but he deserved to lose because of that.
by Ca$z on Jun 7, 2009 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
but you know what, AA should always fight in a boxing ring… he has nowhere to go in an octagon like that, and horrible management for taking the fight against Rogers on short notice, when he’s scheduled to box soon, laughable when you think of it, they couldn’t have thought that he was just gonna walk straight through him after getting KO’d in his last fight…
by RoB on Jun 7, 2009 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well maybe in the Affliction ring because it’s huge but in a ring you can get trapped easier because the escape angles are narrower.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I still cannot believe that happened.I am a big Arlovski fan,but he just does not have it anymore. He looked so good against Fedor, all to get destroyed by Rogers,I can’t believe I just typed that.
What has happened to all of the former greats, they are starting to drop like flies
by scott on Jun 7, 2009 12:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It does not matter what he is fighting in ,if you can not take a punch, you can not take a punch,so unless he becomes Machida over the next few months ,he is done
by scott on Jun 7, 2009 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know but a ring still favors technical standup fighters, because you can lean against the ring ropes and get away, in an octagon it just stops.. An Octagon is pretty much made for Wrestlers to get takedowns against the fence
by RoB on Jun 7, 2009 12:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t know. People will disagree with me on this, but I’m convinced he’s already showing the results of accumulated damage. When you get knocked out really badly it can actually take a long long time to fully recover. I mean against Fedor, his head not only ate a brick to the chin but he smashed his head off the canvas.
Just look at all his losses, nearly all KOs. He also got dropped with a jab while sparring recently.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 1:00 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well yes RoB, that’s true too. Both have advantages and disadvantages for strikers. I do reckon the corner of the ring is a worse place to get trapped though.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That is true, but he shows that he can not take the slightest blow, just like Chuck,so he will eventually get KO.That is what I like about the cage,is there is no where to go,No getting wrapped up in the ropes,no being able to dip and lean on the ropes
by scott on Jun 7, 2009 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
There is this thing called defense, Andrei has all the physical tools to be succesful which a guy like Chuck has not (old man can barely move on his legs).. to compare him to Chuck is not right, Andrei’s punches are much tighter than CHuck’s..
Don’t you worry scott, Andrei needs 6 months or something to rest and work on his defense.. It was a mental thing tonight that he needs to fix, he should never have fought tonight in the first place, don’t know if he needed quick money or what it is that made him take this fight? cause it was wayy to fast taking on a beast like Rogers with huge KO power after getting KO’d in your last fight.. He made the same mistake trying to get the title back right away from Sylvia after he lost it via TKO.. He needs a smarter guy to help him with his business, it just seems to be all over the place with him jumping from different organizations taking fights on short notice..

Can everyone stop talking about how awesome Arlovski is and how he could have beaten Fedor?
Please. And he wants to box. Bad idea.
by scissorfight on Jun 6, 2009 11:59 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Like Fedor said, AA just had a bad gameplan.
The gameplan for Fedor was almost perfect though.
Hopefully I still get to see a rematch. :)

I know, the guy’s a Sambo champ and he does even use it anymore.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 12:38 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He actually looked a lot better against Fedor than he did against Grim
by Hypn0Toad on Jun 7, 2009 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree,Me and my broth-in-law where watching and i told him AA doesnt look like he is there to fight.
by SluggerCitySoldier on Jun 7, 2009 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He needs to stop fighting in octagons, there’s a reason why K-1/Boxing is being contested in a ring, cause it’s better suited for technical standup fighters and it always gives them a place to go.. AA would still do great against Fedor if it’s a standup fight, it would be the same he would still control the fight with his reach..

Holy $h!t. Clubber Lang just laid out Andrei 300 in 22 seconds.
Seriously, where does Andrei go from here? He’s like Chucky and Wandeco now, can’t take a punch anymore. It’s kind of sad.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 12:02 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Are you slow? Anyone would have dropped with those 2 punches from the Grim.
by natas on Jun 7, 2009 12:08 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed, however the punch that set those up and rocked Arlovski didn’t appear to be a great punch. Easy for me to say of course.
by JTD on Jun 7, 2009 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah I know but he clipped him with the left hook and that’s what hurt him. Watch it again dude. I’m not talking about the 3 punches when he was against the fence.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I completely disagree that Wandy cant take a punch. When your hit right on the button, it happens
by enzo-enormous on Jun 7, 2009 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I also wonder the effects that all the cumulative damage someone like Wandy has sustained. And we only see a fraction of that damage.
by JTD on Jun 7, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah me too. I know as the fighters get older and the wear and tear builds up they get slower and get caught easier. But I’d like to see the results of a visual fields test (it tests your peripheral vision and detects blind spots and such). There’s also rumours Nogueira’s sight is deteriorating in one eye.

It’s always a chance to get scar tissue on the brain after seeing the light when you get knocked out, and next time the brain won’t take the same punch… Howard DAvis.Jr talked about that in an interview after the last Chuck fight
by RoB on Jun 7, 2009 12:47 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
you know after too many concussions you have to stop…
by RoB on Jun 7, 2009 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The brain also becomes looser in the skull and gets rattled around easier as the tissues around it break (can’t remember the term).
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 1:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well forgive my hyperbole but I think you know what I mean. It’s the same with Chuck.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Im my honest opinion Arlovski needs to switch training camps, Roach who is great at boxing isn’t really helping out Arlovski much in terms of MMA or else Arlovski is focused on boxing too much. Hell I bet you Sherk could knock Arlovski out, just kidding on that one but you get my point. I don’t care how good AA was doing against Fedor the ending still would of been the same if not a sub in later rounds. Fedor will TKO Barnett as well, his only chance would be to catch Fedor in a submission but imo Fedor is one of the best on the ground in all of MMA. The way to beat Rogers is to take him down which Fedor or Barnett would not have a problem with.
by rydinlow on Jun 7, 2009 12:12 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Agreed. They’d make short work of him on the ground.

C’mon, Lawler, you should have pounded Shields to bits.
Lame…
by BigRedOne on Jun 7, 2009 12:14 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I was shocked, Lawler just surrendered his neck.
by Hypn0T0ad on Jun 7, 2009 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Who says you need to have decent striking when you got good BJJ like Shields or Maia
by rydinlow on Jun 7, 2009 12:16 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Lawler just stuck his neck out and begged Shields to grab it. WTF?

I gotta say, that was a very good fight card. The UFC better look out cause Strikeforce knows how to put on a good show.
by Hypn0Toad on Jun 7, 2009 12:26 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
it was a good night of the fights but the announcers/commentators are clueless and annoying as fuck!
shields needs to get in the ufc i’m not interested in seeing him fight cung le at all.
by AzCombat on Jun 7, 2009 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This is the second time that I have seen Strikeforce and probably the last. I can’t stand the production value and the announcers.
UFC has spoiled me to much. :P
by natas on Jun 7, 2009 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The last time you’ll watch a Strikeforce event! Why? I thought it was a great night of fights, no?. Just mute it if the commentators bother you that much.
by RobH86 on Jun 7, 2009 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
natas, they’ve actually got better commentators than the UFC in the fact that they are not as biased as Rogan and Goldberg are, it’s painful to listen to Rogan and Goldberg trying to make certain picked UFC fighters from Dana and the boys to look good at all times even when it sounds crazy…
by RoB on Jun 7, 2009 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
commentators shouldn’t be hired by the company at all, but it’s an easy way for Dana to make sure they’ve got control over everything…
by RoB on Jun 7, 2009 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah that’s true, also back before they bought Pride they could only say fighting overseas or in Japan if they were refering to a Pride fight but Strikeforce mention the UFC and all the other orgs.
I do like Goldie and Rogan best though because of the Goldbergisms and the Rogan rants. They’re definitely the funniest.
