The former DREAM middleweight champion and 2008 grand prix tournament winner reveals the scoop via M-1 Global:
"I could not make [middleweight] anymore. I am a natural heavyweight, I always had to cut from 93 kilo’s to middleweight. It was just to hard for me to do.... Yes, there (rumors) are true and I will be fighting Vitor Belfort."
Fresh off a first round submission win over Mark Hunt at Dream 9 this morning, Gegard Mousasi reveals that he will make his mixed martial arts debut in the United States against Vitor Belfort on Augus 1, 2009. It's an interesting match up, considering Mousasi recently left the 185-pound division and Belfort just made the decision to join it. There's no official word yet on what the contracted weight Mousasi and Belfort would compete at during Affliction 3, which also has not yet been confirmed by company officials. Stay tuned.
