frank is training in the wrong way, he will never match Brocks strenght. He should be training speed and footwork to counter his expolsive power.

by Nokia on May 26, 2009 7:42 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

im sure he’s working on the speed and footwork. having a 6 pack is as much aboput cardio as it is about anything else. he’s obviously improved his conditioning and will be faster this time around b/c he’s lost his body fat. frank is a true martial artist and he knows what he needs to do to win, not to mention i think he has a much better training camp and guys around him than brock does.

i’m rooting for frank mir in this fight

i think i’m 1 of very few who actually like him but never mind there will be more people jumping on the bandwagon when he wins just like everyone has jumped on machida’s

i also extremely dislike brock lesnar i’ve give my reason why a million times before in previous threads so i’m not going to keep saying

WAR MIR

Mir can’t match Lesnar’s speed either. The dude is a freak is faster than a lot of LWs. Mir’s only chance is to hope Lesnar makes another rookie mistake and steps into an ankle lock or slips and falls, giving Mir top position.

Mir Mir!!

by Sweden on May 26, 2009 7:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I watched this over the weekend and I liked it. I like Mir when I see vids of him like this. Sometimes he comes off as cocky and a bit of a dick but there is no doubt he knows what he is talking about most of the time.

I am glad he is confident going in against Brock as I think he has the right to be. He is the much better striker and BJJ guy. If he doesn’t get caught with any big bombs I see him winning this one.

I personally wanna see Brock get beat up in the stand up and come out of this one knowing what its like to be in a REAL fight. I think that will make him more humble. Mir has been there and I think that makes him more careful about how he approaches a fight.

by Ca$z on May 26, 2009 7:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I am having a hard time picturing Mir beating Brock. Mir might be improving, but Brock will be the much more improved fighter out of the 2.

IMO, brocks mentality was fatally flawed in their 1st fight. He was just too damn nevrous and anxious. He rushed through the entire fight understandably since it was his 1st UFC fight and his 2nd “real fight” overall. with all that said, I still feel as though Brock should have won that fight. Mir was on Queer street while Brock was hammer fisting away at his dome. Ref should have stopped the fight rght there, but instead he stopped the fight, deducted a point and gave Mir time to recover.

Mir might be improved, but Brock will be the more improved fighter. Brock stand ups will still probably be better then Mir’s. Maybe not technically, but his speed, strength and reach advantage will be so much that it will Mask the holes in his striking. Also, I have a feeling that Brock is going to have a solid chin. He seems like the type of guy that will just get pissed when he gets hit hard, instead of crumbling and covering up, like Mir does….but of course, we havent seen Brock really get hit, so that is just a hypothesis. I have nothing concrete to back that claim up.

I dont think Mir can beat Brock standing. I dont think mir can beat Brock in the clinch. I dont think Mir can get the fight to the ground, unless brock dumps him on his ass. Mir will be not only fdacing a much more improved brock, but more importantly he will face a more improved and composed brock…IMO, that alone will be enough to beat Frank MIr…..Even if brock takes it to the ground, a more composed Brock should make him much more difficult to get caught in a submission.

Brock is going to win this fight. Then Mir will be matched up against another top fighter….lose and go back to only being relevant as a commentator!

by john on May 26, 2009 9:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope your wrong John. Mir said he has worked to take much less damage on the ground and if Brock chooses to fight there, no one rolls with him for 25 minutes w/o getting sub’d and Brock isn’t the going to be the first to do that. He also said he hopes it stays on the feet b/c he’s been working on his boxing.

If it stays on the feet, Brock only has to land one good punch so I think that’s a bad idea. If it goes to the ground, I have no idea how you avoid damage from that beast. The only thing that gives me hope is thinking of how Heath lasted on the ground. Let’s hope Brock hasn’t become even more damaging on the ground.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on May 26, 2009 9:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mir needed countless punches to put away Nog. Granted, nobody had ever done that before, but Brock can end the fight with one punch. That shot he landed on Herring 3 seconds in effectively ended the fight even though Herring managed to survive in turtle mode for the final 14:57. He also put Randy on his can with one shot and finished him off with hammers. Even if Mir is landing punches at a 3-1 ratio, Brock will still do far more damage.

by PW on May 26, 2009 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Very true. Im positive that Brock has been training his jits too. He is super explosive. If he gets ahold of an arm or a leg.. he could literally break it in half. Im kinda feeling sorry for Mir to be honest. I would like to see him win just because he is a stand up, honest, man who is a very decent fighter. His time is almost up tho. Brock still has a while to go. I see Brock by devastation… literally.

by enzo-enormous on May 26, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock has a great chin, you can see it on his neck. The only thing would be if he didn’t like to get hit and gives up if he’s taking hard shots which many fighters do..

by attakdog on May 26, 2009 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John – I guess we wanna both see different outcomes. I am a fan of neither fighter and I just think Brock only has 1 way of winning this fight and that is by using his power and strength. I disagree that he will be that much improved as I have seen very little improvment through any of his fights.

IF and it a BIG IF Mir can avoid the big bombs he will out-technique Brock I am sure of it. Brock will improve but it takes most people years to be truly effective strikers and grapplers against other talented fighters and although I do see the weaknesses in Mir is is a BETTER all around fighter.

by Ca$z on May 26, 2009 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mir’s a better striker than Lesnar, are you kidding me? Mir sucks, just because he TKO’d a half fit , half dead Big Nog, don’t get excited. Lesnar will destroy him if it’s kept standing, too much power!

by attakdog on May 26, 2009 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Better striking = whos got the most power does it????

Mir has been doing Kenpo karate for nearly 20yrs since he was a kid while Brock has been training stand up for wait….2 yrs!!!

Technically Mir IS the better striker and should be able to make the same mistakes in thinking he can get hit with big shots and get away with it. If Mir uses his hands wisely he will dominate Brock easily and you will quickly see a frustrated Brock try and take him down instead.

Technique wins over power every time if used correctly. The question is can Frank pull it off.

BTW I am not saying frank WILL win this fight…I am saying he should if he uses all his abilities to do so.

by Ca$z on May 26, 2009 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mir is a better strike than Lesnar, no doubt. When Lesnar fought Couture, Randy was outboxing him, he just didn’t have the size to throw Lesnar around or impact him with his punches. Mir is coming in bigger than Randy, which is a plus. He may not match Lesnar’s size, but he will not be outweighed by 40+ lbs. Lesnar’s size and strength are the mystery, not his skill. However, I don’t know if Mir wants to stand and trade. It’s true, one Lesnar punch may have Mir seeing stars, but if his boxing is as crisp as it was against Nog, he should be able to avoid cranial damage and take the fight where he wants it. The big question mark to me is once it hits the ground can Mir move Lesnar around, or is Lesnar’s weight going to be too much. For the sake of MMA, I hope Mir wins this and makes a statement that you can’t just walk into the UFC w/o any substantial training and win a championship.

“If Mir uses his hands wisely he will dominate Brock easily” -

No chance, this is murrrrrr you’re talking about, not Machida. Mir’s striking is god awful, all that Karate for 20 years and he aint got many KO’s??? One punch from Lesnar will do more damage than 10 from murrrrr. All the technique in the world means nothing if you cant damage your opponent.

by attakdog on May 26, 2009 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is the same Frank Mir who couldn’t dominate the standup with cage rage midget Ian Freeman?? Look what happened when AA got hold of him! Seriously if you cant dominate a cage rage dwarf standing up, what hope have you got of dominating a behemouth like Lesnar?

by attakdog on May 26, 2009 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mir couldnt dominate Wes sims…he got Ko by the biggest striking whimp in the world…Pe De Pano! lol YOU dont improve on your chin. If mir got Ko’ed by Pe De Pano Cruz, and his chin couldnt hold up….how in the world will it hold up against one of Brocks sledge hammers?

I cant believe how good the UFC’s marketing machine is. It has the biggest die hard fans on this site confused thinking MIr is all of the sudden a top fighter. There will be a rude awakening for many of you guys come july 11th. By the time 2010 rolls around….We wont even be talking about MIr except to bash his one-sided, cock slurping WEC commentary!

Stop drinking the UFC kool aid…use your eyes, and BRAINS people. Mir is lucky to be mentioned in the top 20!

Anyone think GOnzaga deserves to be UFC champ? I sure as hell dont! Do u people have any idea what GOnzaga would do to Mir? Try dominate him in every single second of the fight till he bashes his face in! Yet, he is supposed to be ready for Brock?

Sorry I dont see it that way!

by john on May 26, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you could almost say that Mir was stopped on a cut in his fight against Pe De Pano cause he couldn’t see anything from all the blood and that was how PDP got the TKO.. What i’ve seen in alot Mir’s fights though is him giving up and just covering up til the ref stops it!

by RoB on May 26, 2009 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Great point John, Mir is so lucky anybody is talking about him as even being top 20. He would get destroyed by Gonzaga, add to that list Carwin, Velazquez, Couture, a 50% fit Big Nog, Cro Cop, Dos Santos the list goes on. Gatekeepers like Herring would own him. Don’t get me started on what guys outside the UFC woud do to him, Fedor, AA, Barnett, Werdum etc. Imagine Mir trying to apply his gay leglocks when Fedor’s caving his face in. Come june 11th, we’ll thankfully never be hearing from him again.

by attakdog on May 27, 2009 4:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My how we forget that Mir did plow through everyone in the HW division and won the HW title?? He is a champion, he knows what it takes, and his recommitment should be scary for any opponent no matter how large.

One more point, Mir comes from a Karate background just like a recently crowned champ?? Can this be coincidence??

WAR MIR!!

by UFC Champ on May 26, 2009 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LMAO like Mir’s striking is comparible to Machida’s. That’s made my day, I haven’t laughed so much for years.

by attakdog on May 26, 2009 11:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry did I miss something?? I didn’t use any specific references for Mir’s strengths or weaknesses. I simply stated Mir’s accomplishments which includes winning the HW title, and his discipline, no references to striking.

I guess its like Mir’s entrance song in the words of NAS, “People hate what they can’t understand…”

by UFC Champ on May 26, 2009 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You were hinting that because Machida won the LHW belt with a Karate background then Mir would win the HW belt because he’s from a Karate background. Only difference is Machida’s Karate and general striking are a thousand time better than Mir’s.

you should really take a listen, while i agree at times he comes off as wayy to cocky, he is a great representative of the sport. he talked alot about the sport, commentating on the wec, and evolving as a fighter and martial artist.

Mir has to out finesse Lesnar, not out power him. All this “crush” talk is really making me feel like his confidence could be his biggest enemy. Once again, Mir’s only chance at being successful in this fight is to submit Lesnar.

by MMAMoneyLine on May 26, 2009 8:56 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Mir has no chance. Brock by KO.

by mikehunt on May 26, 2009 9:31 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i dis-agree, mir has one shot, submit via some type of leg/ankle lock. this will need to happen in the first couple of minutes of the first round, once the strength of lesnar becomes apparent to mir , he is done, lesnar is crazy strong, mir will not knock him out, lesnar has to much neck strength, his neck is a tree trunk, no head snap, no knock out. mir cannot submit via rear naked for the same reason, he cannot arm bar because the guns on lesnar make that next to impossible. mir can’t dirty box because lesnar will toss him around like a rag doll.mir cant take lesnar down , period. so any type of ground game will be initiated by lesnar. mir can attempt kicks, but one mistake spells disaster. my prediction, lesnar dominates. middle second round , via ground and pound.

by daz on May 26, 2009 10:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The only way Mir wins is by getting a leg lock again and I don’t really see that happening. I think Lesnar wins by TKO in round one. Mir is lying when he says he hopes it stays standing because he will have no chance to go toe to toe with Lesnar. I would bet money that when Mir gets hit he will immediately fall down and hope Lesnar goes to the ground with him.

by Anderson Silva on May 26, 2009 10:17 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

oh no!! Mir has abit of a six pack, so that must mean he’s gonna whip Brock. LOL!!! Maybe in his dreams.

by justagirl on May 26, 2009 10:21 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It wasn’t a dream, he already did, and will again.

by UFC Champ on May 26, 2009 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He may have won, but he whipped him before? When? Mir was being crushed in that fight. Worse so than Couture.

by jay on May 26, 2009 12:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was gettin’ whipped for 88 seconds of that fight and then he got lucky. I know it. You know it. Frankie knows it!

by justagirl on May 26, 2009 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Brock was lucky that he lasted for 88 seconds. He slipped out of numerous submission attempts while preoccupying himself with his misplaced hammerfists.

by UFC Champ on May 26, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

HaHa! You sound like you and Mir would be best buddies! Your comment is so delusion, it’s ridiculous. Brock put Mir on his ass and Mir got a break from Mazzagatti. Mir owes that win to the ref.

by justagirl on May 26, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well first of all he didn’t whop brock to any degree brock got caught mir was getting dominated and he will once again get dominated, Brock has way to much power for mir people think mir is so great because he had one great armbar against tim sylvia, I don’t think Mir is actually that good he hasn’t really beat to many great fighters, i actaully think randy and herring could both beat mir so lesnar will win via ko/tko late first early second round

by kingkong on May 26, 2009 11:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

agree with your analysis and time of stoppage.

by jay on May 26, 2009 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m not much of a Brock Lesnar fan but I must say If you look at this realistically; Brock has size, speed, strength & power advanantages over Mir. Yeah Mir has better jui-jutsu but Lesnar is a great wrestler and I believe a better puncher than Mir. Lesnar will not be careless this time and will pick up where he left off in the first fight- bashing Mir’s head like a melon!

by Rich on May 26, 2009 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’d like to see Mir land an uppercut inside and drop Lesnar like a sack of ‘Suga’.

by KS on May 26, 2009 1:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I am not sure if I am the only one, but Mir dosn’t come across as a confident combatent in this video, he comes across as an arrogant, obnoxious, and oblivious fool. He keeps knocking Brock for his record. Since he beat Brock, he has had one fight, one fricken fight. Granted this fight was against a legend, but a legend that looked more like a relic. Brock has spent almost 30 minutes in the ring since the first Mir fight, never mind the training. Brock dropped Mir with a jab, and no matter how Mir wants to play it, he had no answer for Brock until he stood up and offered him his leg. Mir won the first fight, and there is no denying that, but the same argument could be made that it was Brocks to loose, which he did. I wouldn’t want to take a punch from Mir, but I am not Lesnar. Lesnar will walk through what ever Frank has to offer on the feet and will win the fight. Mir deserves to loose, he may be the biggest douce and most arrogant fighter I have seen in the last 5 years, and he is either delsional to beleive the shite is he saying or it is part of his game. I hope Mir gets slain.

by DAWGG on May 26, 2009 1:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Brock and several other fighters could give Mir a run for his money in the “arrogance” category. Have you ever listened to one pre fight interview. Every guy in the world thinks that they are gonna win every fight, as well they should. And to counter you, I hope Lesnar gets slain, and unlike you Ill stay away from name calling.

by Dave on May 26, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can tell in the Videos the interviewer is asking them to trash talk. Mainly to hype the fight. It is probably in their contract.

by Anderson Silva on Jun 8, 2009 9:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i really hope brock uses his head and keeps this fight standing as i think the only way mir can win is by submission, so as long as brock don’t get too excited like the first fight i can see no way he can lose! I’m really not liking the way mir is talking all this shit either, as if he could crush brock, arm bar maybe but he’ll never crush him!

by ukmma on May 26, 2009 2:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Possibilities – a lot of caution by both fighters to counter act lot of “trick plays.” I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lesnar submit Mir, or Mir having some diving leg or arm grab. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it were canceled again for some reason. As far as the outcome – it seems like a undefinable scenario. What I don’t expect is it to go the distance, but the possibility is not zero. There’s also a possibility it could be over in less than a minute.

The closest thing to a sure thing is that the pay per view will be big.
