UFC Quick Quote: Sean Sherk has left the building

"Sean sherk ran out of the ring and out the doors and down the street in his fight shorts and no shirt."

-- UFC President Dana White Tweets that former lightweight champion Sean Sherk bolted from the Octagon and into the streets of Las Vegas following his unanimous decision loss to Frank Edgar this evening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. "The Muscle Shark" eventually returned to the venue to submit his post-fight urinalysis. If he didn't, Sherk would have been in major trouble from the Nevada State Athletic Commission ... and perhaps local authorities.

I missed the event last night. I did catch the second round of the Machida fight lIve.

FOCKIN sean SHERK!!!! I have never liked the guy! i hate his skill set, I dont like his personality, I thin he is a cheater, and I NEVER root for him.

I Identified Sherk as my “lock of the night”, and placed my biggest bet on him………….BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

if all my other bets didnt hit (minus Serra who I had chump change on)…I would be down a nice chunk thanks to this FOCK FACE Sean Sherk!

I didnt get to watch this fight yet, but did “T-rex arms” really get outworked by a natural featherweight?

FOCKING SHERK!!!

All Hail, King Machida! TOld you FOCKERS that Rashad wasnt going to be close to his level, and that it was going to show!

Where the Machida HATERS at today?

john,
you should be able to collect your money from Sherk’s trainers…one of them clearly told him he is a good boxer…why don’t guys stick with what they’re good at.

HAHAHA _ I imagine him dropping to his knees, arms in he air, yelling NOOOOOOOOO!!!! :)

by DownUnder on May 24, 2009 1:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No kidding. He basically just gave away that fight. In all honesty, neither of them were ever in any danger of getting knocked out, because neither of them have enough punching power. Maynard showed Sherk exactly how to beat Edgar, and for some reason Sherk decided not to use it. He got one perfect double leg with almost no resistance, and for some reason he never really went for it again. His corner should have been screaming “takedown”. Instead he just kept losing all of the exchanges for the simple reason that he has 2 of the shortest arms in mma. Not to take it away from Frank, but there really wasn’t any reason for Sherk to lose this fight.

by naturalshadow on May 24, 2009 2:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

“2 of the shortest arms in MMA” HAHAHA. It’s true. It annoys me when fighters don’t go to a plan B. It’s like they choose not to use their brains when they fight. Sherk clearly at some point in at least the middle of the 2nd round shoulda said to himself, “I am losing these exchanges and I have never knocked anyone out in my life, maybe I should try to take him down now instead.” Seems simple enough.

by RedDog on May 24, 2009 3:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I totally agree. He went for his first shot in round 3 when he was tired and already behind on the score cards. Why he didnt shoot in the first and especially in the second when he knew his standup wasnt working is beyond me. For some reason when some dominant wrestlers learn striking they seem to forget their wrestling. Both Sherk and Evans fell prey to that today!

by mikeharmon on May 24, 2009 3:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sherk should have learned something from his fight with BJ….. his standup is not his bread and butter.

lmfao wtf?

by JG on May 24, 2009 1:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Man, he deserved to lose. I hate wrestlers to try to stand and “bang” for the sake of being exciting. So obvious that he’s tryin to win fans back after the steroid bs. That said very impressed by Edgar. I really like that kid and man did he have a performance tonight. Highest respect and no more talk from me about him dropping to 145.

True.

by naturalshadow on May 24, 2009 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sherk, you are not a boxer. For your own sake, stop thinking that you are a standup fighter, you are a wrestler. It’s good to evolve and add more tools to your game, but they shouldn’t replace your pre-existing tools. that’s like going from being a one-dimensional fighter with just wrestling, to a one-dimensional fighter with just boxing. Except you are good at wrestling and so far you’ve sucked at just boxing.

I want to see the Sherk of old. Apologies to supporters, but F’ you guys who bashed him for lay and pray. He was immensely successful with his old style and I said in the middle of his fight tonight, “I don’t want to root for him anymore if he is going to do this.”

He used to fight
a striker…take hime down and pound him.
a bjj guy..take him down and pound him
a fellow wrestler..outwrestle him, take him down and pound him.

Any style, he would use his game plan and overwhelm. Bring it back.

I think he changed his game because of the people criticizing him. Time to go old school.

by PJJ on May 24, 2009 2:14 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Good post PJJ. Sherk became the top fighter he is by wreslting guys. If you look at 3 of the 4 losses, all have been when he stood and traded: Gsp, BJ, Frankie. The Hughes lost, he just lost to a better wrestler, at the time.

by Synyster on May 24, 2009 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dont think he had a choice to box or not. Edgar wouldn’t stay down. Those little T-rex arms really put him at a disadvantage.

by kukuxumusu on May 24, 2009 2:31 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You have to think “what am I missing?”. Sherk loses to BJ and now to Frankie Edgar, a natural 145 pounder because his striking isn’t high level MMA striking. I mean he most likely would have lost to BJ anyway but he wouldn’t have lost to that little guy Edgar who weighed at least 15 pounds less than him at fight time. Ok, he did beat Tyson Griffin but that’s still not enough. If losing and trying to put on exciting fights is what he wants to do then he’s succeeding. If he wants to get another shot at a title eventually, then he is failing. I don’t know, I’m just shaking my head.

by Nepal on May 24, 2009 8:50 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

WTF, this is a good example why mma fighters should stick to what there good at instead of trying to be something there not.Sherk got confidence in his boxing after he outboxed Griffin, even-though thats not a big deal, and thought he was mike tyson or something. If Sherk would have used his wrestling, he could of easily dominated and finished edgar on the ground. But he decided to give a quicker edgar the fight by trying to strike with him.Edgar could of out boxed him all night.

lol and sherk was a safe bet

by andrewb on May 24, 2009 10:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i guess thats one way to handle it

by wm133 on May 24, 2009 11:45 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

His manager probably forgot to bring his “clean” pee pee sample, so Sherk had to run to the hotel and get it.

by just some dong on May 24, 2009 2:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He is nothing without his steroids. I think he has only won one of three fights since the steroid suspension!! The funny thing is that he is still trying to convice us that he was inocent.

by Spyder on May 24, 2009 5:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Why would getting off of steroids make you box instead of wrestle? His horrible gameplan is what lost him this fight.

by naturalshadow on May 24, 2009 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He may have lost a great deal of explosiveness without the steroids. If so, he may have had to change styles because his old style wouldn’t work anymore.

by Snork on May 25, 2009 2:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe he wanted to play a quick game of keno or make a bet on hughes.

by mak on May 24, 2009 8:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Spyder his only losses before last night were to hughes,BJ,and GSP. Not sure i would dog on that lol.

by mak on May 24, 2009 8:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Thats some b.s. if you ask me. This guy has been know to cheat in the past and who is to say this wasn’t planned win or lose. I know most of you saw the movie “The Program” back in the day about a high profile college football program. Well long story short there was a player on the team that was juicing and he got his piss taken out of his bladder and clean piss was pumped back in. This guys test shouldn’t be trusted because he can’t be trusted.

by cox4yalips on May 24, 2009 9:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Dude had nothing for Edgar last night. He tried to prove something by standing w/ him and look what happened. He should have used his biggest attribute to secure the victory. TAKEDOWN, TAKEDOWN, TAKEDOWN!!!

by tylerS on May 24, 2009 10:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hopefully this motivates him to come back stronger and with better game plans. He’s still toward the very top of the LW division

by ShitleTot.com on May 25, 2009 12:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cmon sherk. ur not a puncher, ur a wrestler so damn it, wrestle the guy. With his short arms and his lackadasical punch, no way can sherk knock any one out. So if I were him go back to his wrestling and LNP. hey it gets him wins. Dont go out try to bang when you know your strength is ur takedowns.

by big_evil on May 25, 2009 12:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

With arms like that he should be boxing john mccain. jk. anyway, can you imagine this clown running down the strip, zig zagging thru traffic in his jumbo shorts, then realizing “oh shit i have to dart back for that stupid drug test.” Dumb Fuk!

by WDC on May 25, 2009 2:09 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sherk is too predictable (one dimensional) kinda like Joe Daddy and don’t you just love when guys hype the fight saying they are going to knock somebody out….look at Sherk’s wins…..almost all decisions…..
