UFC 98 weigh in results LIVE for 'Evans vs Machida'

The official weigh-in event for UFC 98: "Evans vs. Machida" from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, has come to a close.
It was a close call for Matt Serra, who was seen in the sauna just an hour before tipping the scale. "The Terror" however was able to hit his mark.
Mike Pyle was given extra time to weigh in as a result of being called up on short notice to replace Chris Wilson. He reached 172 and was not penalized for the overage.
Outside of Serra and Pyle, it was a rather pedestrian affair with no real fireworks with the exception of an intense staredown between main event participants Rashad Evans — who drew a mixture of boos and cheers — and Lyoto Machida.
Here are the complete UFC 98 weigh in results:
205 lbs.: UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans (205) vs. Lyoto Machida (204)
170 lbs.: Matt Hughes (170) vs. Matt Serra (171)
185 lbs.: Chael Sonnen (186) vs. Dan Miller (185)
155 lbs.: Sean Sherk (156) vs. Frank Edgar (155)
185 lbs.: Xavier Foupas-Pokam (186) vs. Drew McFedries (185)
170 lbs.: Brock Larson (171) vs. Mike Pyle (172)*
265 lbs.: Tim Hague (263) vs. Patrick Barry (237)
155 lbs.: Phillipe Nover (156) vs. Kyle Bradley (156)
205 lbs.: Andre Gusmao (206) vs. Krzysztof Soszynski (206)
170 lbs.: Yoshiyuki Yoshida (171) vs. Brandon Wolff (170)
155 lbs.: Dave Kaplan (156) vs. George Roop (154)
Note: Fighters are allowed to weigh one pound more than the division limit in non-title fights.
*Because he took the fight on short notice, the NSAC did not penalize Mike Pyle for being one pound over.
Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, play-by-play coverage of the main card action tomorrow night (Saturday, May 23), which is slated to air at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The latest quick updates of the live action will begin to flow earlier than that around 8 p.m. ET.
It’s going to be a good night of fights so don’t miss it. And remember to check us out for all the pre, during and post-fight UFC 98 coverage you can handle.

pretty boring weigh in! They usually play the background promo for the main event and even the co main event. Today, just weigh em and get em out!

Rashad looked jacked at the weigh ins. Machida is getting a big head in my opinion as is too concerned with putting on a great fight and being agressive and going for the KO like he did against Silva. That type of attitude is not what got him to where he is…now is not the time to change.

*no colonel sanders… you’re wrong
rashad is about to receive his first (second) loss _
by Devin on May 22, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I am not sold on Rashad yet. I know he is a great fighter, but i dont know if he is a dominant one that can beat the elite on a constant basis. He is going to lose to Machida so thats not going to help his cause. I just dont know if I see Rashad beating fighters like:
Machida
Rampage
Shogun (healthy n in shape)
I could even see him struggling with someone like Rich Franklin or even thiago,Banha,Vera. He really never dominated anyone. He has always struggled in big fights:
Struggled to a split decision win with BISPING
DRaw with Tito
Struggled with Chuck until he knocked his head off
Was getting whooped by bitch ass Forrest until he took him down and smacked him around like the Biatch that Forrest is!
On the other hand…Machida just makes everyone look STUPID! He doesnt struggle with anyone! He DOMINATES everyone they put in front of him! HOw many rounds has Rashad lost? Machida has lost ZERO!!! You can probably count on your hands the number of times Machida has been hit. He is simply THAT GOOD! I know Rashad is a very skilled, well rounded, tough n GAME fighter….but I think Machida is simply on another Level and its going to show by the 3rd or 4th round tomorrow night! Machida probably wont finish Rashad….but its not gonna be as close as most people think it will be.
WE got a NEW LHW champion about to be crowned FOLKS!!!!
by john on May 22, 2009 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree John. Im not gonna take any credit away from Rashad for getting where he is as 18-0-1 is no easy task in this day and age in the UFC but he has not really convinced me either that he is a worthy champion.
There are a lot of champs in dfferent organisations across the world and most of them for some reason give you the impression that they are there for a reason and for me Rashad just got there by the skin of his teeth and not by really dominating top level fighters.
Sure he knocked out Chuck but he was getting schooled before he caught him and I just want to see him step up and believe in himself instead of fighting so damn cautiously.
The difference between him and machida is that Machida does what he does because of his style and Rashad does it cos he lacks belief in himself to remain the champion for very long.
Machida will win and win convincingly in my eyes and remain the champ for a while to come until someone comes with a truly effective gameplan to beat him and I just don’t see it happening any time soon.
Best of luck Rashad….you’re gonna need it!
by Ca$z on May 22, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions
guys getting schooled by Chuck? really? he was measuring him up and making him frustrated, he dominated him in that 2nd round and Chuck didn’t land anything worth mentioning.. Rashad isn’t dominating his opponents because that’s not his thing, he fights his opponents and Machida doesn’t, he just outpoints them..
by RoB on May 22, 2009 10:18 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t know john I think he’s one of those guy’s that fights at another level when the stakes are high. You have to remember he is still improving and a much better fighter from the Tito and Bisping days. With Jackson in his corner he usually is more prepared than his opponent in the fight wich evens the playing field question is does Jackson have a good enough gameplan for Machida and if not how will Evans react? I believe much better than T.Silva but I can’t wait to find out.

the man to beat loyoto currently resides at 155. His name is BJ Penn
by jd on May 22, 2009 6:02 PM EDT reply actions
JD didn’t know hot, neither were on TUF! It’s funny because of all the fighters in the world, he picks BJ (and he’s my favorite) even I wouldn’t have picked him!
by kevin on May 22, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions
Kev,i thought that BJ wasn’t,one of your favorites??
And i believe too that,BJ should have win that match in the 2th rnd…BJ was about to get a take down and the ropes stop him to get it.I’m positive that he,would have submitted Lyoto if it,would have been in a cage!
by Alpha Male 360 on May 22, 2009 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

How many times he will grab his crotch???
Maybe he will even flip off Machida when he starts getting beat
I wouldnt even doubt Evans would go as far to SPIT at Machida
How many kisses will he throw towards Lyoto
