Dana White: The UFC is Ontario bound in 2010

Props: Yahoo Sports
Quoteworthy:
"We’re coming (to Ontario) next year. I’m very confident we’re going to be there next year. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be. We’ve put on two successful events in Montreal. We’ve been putting on successful events for almost 10 years now. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be in Ontario. We know what a big market it is. We know the economic impact it will have on that [province]. It’s ridiculous. We’re going to get in there. It’s all talk now. But other than a boring main event, I don’t think there’s anything up in Montreal that they saw that would keep us out of Ontario."
UFC President Dana White reveals his continued plan of securing a show in Ontario, Canada, at some point in 2010. White has expressed a desire in the past to hold a UFC event in Toronto at the Rogers Centre in front of as many as 50,000 fans. Considering that one of the world's most popular fighters is a Canadian named Georges St. Pierre, that may not be such an unrealistic goal. He will however have to wait until mixed martial arts is legalized by the Ontario Athletic Commission because the sport is currently banned in that part of the country...for now.

Does Canada have any equipment for that?? hahahaha. We suck.
by UFC Champ on May 22, 2009 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions
Getting it legalized is the very first step. I compete in grappling tournaments, and call it ‘continuous sparring’ for striking tournaments to get around the rules, but Ont. needs to get with the program. I have trained out of Xtreme Couture in Toronto also, so no we don’t suck, we have the equipment dude.

There are more places to train than XC which opened what? a year ago?
Anyways, I was refering to our underfunded Military program buddy.

As long as y’all keep hooking us up with legal weed and cheap prescription drugs, we’ll happily kick some ass on your behalf.

LOL at Dana saying the only negative thing that happened was the performance of the flopper in the main event.
by ViolentMike on May 22, 2009 9:08 AM EDT reply actions
Yea I was laughin at that; speaking of boring on a side not, was playin Undisputed Carreer mode and accepted a fight with Machida, WOW, even in the damn game he runs like a b!tch. At the end of the fight I end up winning by decision and Mike goes “Well Joe, I think we’re only gonna need half an energy drink after that one” while the crowd boos. Even in the game playing against him is boring! Laughed my @ss off!

When this event happens in Toronto it will be the BIGGEST event the UFC has ever had. The potential in Toronto cannot be found anywhere else in North America. WAR T-DOT!!!!!!
by TOMMY-OUZO on May 22, 2009 9:14 AM EDT reply actions
I WILL be at the first event here for damn sure! Go get ’em Dana!!
by UFC Champ on May 22, 2009 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions
Well, the WWF/WWE sold out the Skydome (or Rogers Center) a couple of times for Wrestlemania. The UFC might be able to do that too if they put together a hot enough card. GSP would have to be featured in the main event, and you’d need to stack it with some big match-ups.
I would be there for sure.
by Drake_Labatt on May 22, 2009 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions
this would sell out easily. hope it gets done and they’re able to finally have events in ontario.
why not a picture of skydome (rogers centre) though?
by battery on May 22, 2009 10:17 AM EDT reply actions
I think holding an event in a baseball stadium is a bad idea. You would have to watch on the Jumbotron to see anything. Why not just hold it at the ACC? Also Toronto is a dirty crime filled city, keep it in Montreal. I live 30 minutes from the Rogers center but would still prefer to drive to Montreal then go to T.O. to see an event.
by jay on May 22, 2009 11:47 AM EDT reply actions
Dirty crime filled city?? Are you for real? Montreal is WAY worse!
by UFC Champ on May 22, 2009 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions
I agree with you Champ…Toronto is pretty clean, and the crime rate is lower than any major city in the states.
by MM_Eh on May 22, 2009 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Montreal is worse for organized crime. Toronto is the worse for little “gang bangers” running around shooting people indescriminately. So while there is more crime in Montreal, you just don’t see it unless you are hanging out with the bikers. How is Montreal worse??? Check the stats instead of just trying to protect your cess-pool of a city. T.O. is the worse city in Canada bar none.
by jay on May 22, 2009 1:12 PM EDT up reply actions
I see you haven’t been to Vancouver ‘jay’. I will deal with “gang bangers” anyday over underage sex-slaves. I don’t understand why everyone is so down on Toronto.
by MM_Eh on May 22, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Jay is totally right!I’m from MTL…!Right now the problem is that a lots,of bikers are in jail leaving the turf to shitty gangs. The same, can be said for BC.The clean up need to be done soon b/c we will become, like T-Dot.But in normal MTL is,one of the safest city in CANADA!
by Alpha Male 360 on May 22, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m not trying to bash MTL…my family is from there, and they have without a doubt the best strippers ever…hahaha…but Toronto is a nice city as well.
by MM_Eh on May 22, 2009 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions
No worries bro,we are all Canadians here!I know that you didn’t try to bash MTL just, like i didn’t want to for T-Dot.
Those gang bangers really mess up our city real bad!
YOU are absolutely right about the girls here(stippers)!
WE have the best, that what i was trying to point out to Kevin the other day!

McArthur-
Thanks for the knowledge.
I will return the favor if you have questions about the states or latin countries.

Niagra Falls around Canada Day is always good. McArthur’s list is good, but I wouldn’t leave out Algonquin for camping though.
by MM_Eh on May 22, 2009 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions
good call MM!!! Was up there 3 weeks ago campin…gotta be up there early to beat the bugs
by McArthur on May 22, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions
The bugs are brutal up there for sure. Mt. Treblant is always a fun trip as well.
by MM_Eh on May 22, 2009 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions
All of Canada rocks period.
As for the Mafia/Biker activity in MTL, its the same in the T-Dot.
Vancouver’s Asian gangs are popping people in broad daylight left right and centre according to the media. In T.O we have a bunch of kids that think their straight from New Jack City causing public problems.
by UFC Champ on May 22, 2009 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I’ll be at the first event for sure. I think the Rogers centre would sell out no problem, but I’m hoping that the ACC holds the event.
by MM_Eh on May 22, 2009 11:49 AM EDT reply actions
Damn I hope this get this done, But think everyone lol GSP is fighting UFC 100, Anderson Silva UFC 101. Give GSP time to put the weight on and that puts it around next year… Could Toronto first event hold the biggest fight in the history of the ufc? Damn I f-ing hope so, I will be going, only about a hour and a half drive from toronto.
