MMA Quick Quote: Phil Baroni hypes up his Strikeforce fight against Joe Rigg

"Really, there’s not much to say. Joe’s 25 years old and he’ll have his day. On June 6, I’m knocking him the (expletive) out. I’m going to (expletive) him up bad. I’m going to bust him up the whole (expletive) fight. It’s up to him how long he wants to last. Whether he wants to last one round or he wants to last three – I’m going to (expletive) him up. Never mind being in shape. I’m not thanking anybody for being here. Any promotion that has me, it’s lucky for them. No one’s kissing anyone’s asses. I’m just ready to fight and beat the (expletive) out of him. He looks like he’s been overtraining. I’d say he’s about maybe 155 (pounds). You don’t look like that big at 170 right now. Something’s wrong with him. I asked my agent – I said ‘hey get me a southpaw to fight.’ My agent’s pretty stupid. He said ‘What’s that? He didn’t know what a southpaw was. So, I said 'It’s a (expletive) left-handed fighter.' I’m real good at fighting lefties. Lefties are made to order for me. They eat straight right hands and I’ve got a pretty (expletive) big one. I’m going to put it right on his kisser. It’s do or die for me and I ain’t (expletive) ready to die. I got a lot of fighting left in me. Joe’s young. I’m a man now and I think he’s a boy. Someday I’ll probably commentate for Joe when he’s fighting for a world title. This is my time. I’m going to take care of my business and that starts with Joe and everyone else at 170 pounds with Strikeforce."

-- Phil Baroni being, well, Phil Baroni during the recent press conference to promote Strikeforce: "Lawler vs. Shields," which is scheduled to take place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo., on June 6. "The New York Badass" is lined up to take on Joe "Diesel" Riggs on the televised Showtime main card. And if you've heard him talk about the 170-pound slugfest, it's not a fight you are going to want to miss. Baroni could give lessons to other fighters on how to generate buzz ... he's damn good at it. Now let's see if he can back it up in the cage on fight night.

Win or lose I gotta admit I like seeing a Baroni fight. It usually ends up him getting his ass kicked but occasionally he does f*ck someone up like how he talks about it.

Should be fun for a minute or two.

Riggs R1 TKO

naaaa, Riggs is gonna feel Italian KO power!!!
Phil always brings it and i love watching him fight..

by RoB on May 20, 2009 10:13 AM EDT up reply actions

One thing I noticed is that Ken Pavia (his agent) is a complete (expletive) moron in more ways than I thought. Didn’t know what a southpaw is and you represent HOW MANY (explative) fighters?

in the mma world is manager and agent the same thing, or no? Maybe not, but still. Come the (expletive) on!

Probably attended a Dana White seminar on how to win friends and influence people.

by O damn he got caught on May 20, 2009 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Phils been talking like this since the start, Dana used to be a mild mannered gentleman before 2006.

Well.. less of a jerk.

by DirtyML on May 20, 2009 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Watch the Pride Grand Prix 2003, the one where Chuck fought Rampage, if you’ve got the behind the scenes interviews and what not you can see a completely different attitude.

by the way, I got Baroni!

by kevin on May 20, 2009 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions

by PW on May 20, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, Baroni’s creating a buzz, we’d all like to see him get KTFO! by Riggs!!

by DAVE A on May 20, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Phil Baroni is the (expletive) man, he’s the show. The NYBA will knock Riggs head off.

Damn thats a big @ss fist!

by O damn he got caught on May 20, 2009 7:45 AM EDT reply actions

I hope Riggs smashes him! Baroni’s an ****!

by UKMMA on May 20, 2009 7:48 AM EDT reply actions

Anyone want to take bets on when Baroni will gas out. I say he starts to gas just as he arrives at the cage for the pre-entry pat-down. He will definitely be winded by the time he actually makes it up the stairs and onto the mat. Classic Baroni… All talk, no cardio!!! Riggs by TKO.

by Cole on May 20, 2009 8:40 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL, seriously though Baroni has lost weight, probably toned down on the roids and has to be in good shape to make 170lbs. I say he’s got 3 minutes in the 1st round to KO Joe Riggs or it’s lights out for Baroni!!

by DAVE A on May 20, 2009 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Baroni will be knocked out in this fight! That’s a guarantee!

by Phasebook on May 20, 2009 7:58 AM EDT reply actions

Hard to believe Riggs is only 25…I know we say this on every Riggs thread but the dude looks like he’s in his mid-thirties

by kevin on May 20, 2009 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions

yea I know…I would pay for this card with the addition of AA…

by Robert(1) on May 20, 2009 9:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Definately a solid card. Strikeforce are really doing big things following this Elite takeover and putting some cards to rival a decent UFC card IMO.

I’m still really disappointed about Babalu getting scratched off but now they have Arlovski / Rogers fight as well it is looking really interesting again.

If they continue to trade fighters with Affliction and Dream etc they could all be having some really good battles with respective champions from each org.

by Ca$z on May 20, 2009 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions

That’s what happens when you’ve had 30 fights and injuries, Diesel has had his share of battles.

by DAVE A on May 20, 2009 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

this Strick force card is looking good! should be a great night of fights!

by jet99 on May 20, 2009 8:07 AM EDT reply actions

im going for the Baroni. Riggs mised weight against Hughes, therefore i have no reason to go for him. plus, Baroni’s a real laugh.

by eightyproof on May 20, 2009 8:07 AM EDT reply actions

Yea Phil is funny as hell, his commentary cracks me up; I hope the guy wins, I don’t hate on Phil, he’s had a bad run but he’s also been in some good fights.

by O damn he got caught on May 20, 2009 9:15 AM EDT up reply actions

me too…the guy acts like a bit of a cartoon but he’s entertaining and isn’t afraid to give/take the big shots

by McArthur on May 20, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions

by JonnyBoy on May 20, 2009 10:21 AM EDT reply actions

how is he boring??

by McArthur on May 20, 2009 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions

How is he not?
I find him boring… live with it!

by JonnyBoy on May 20, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

mania, when does baroni ever back up his talk? they both suck but both seem to somehow get lots of press.

and baroni missed his true calling as a pornstar. i mean, just look at his facial hair.

by JB on May 20, 2009 10:25 AM EDT reply actions

I love to watch baroni fight…he is like a shamrock…anything can happen in there…its awesome to see this …Riggs will get knocked out… Efing diego snachez knocked him out…

by What? on May 20, 2009 10:35 AM EDT reply actions

lol take a knee to the head like riggs took from diego and most people are out

by lokie on May 20, 2009 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

NYBA via KO, or Riggs via KO, someone is gonna get KO’d, I’m just hoping it Riggs.

by Belisarius on May 20, 2009 10:42 AM EDT reply actions

Anyone else notice how Baroni was talking all sorts of shit about how any organization that has him is lucky and then later in the same interview he says it is “do or die” for him.

Or how he says he is going to "knock him the **** out but then says it is up to Joe how many rounds it goes. I think the guy is a tool. Go back to Japan where you can juice.

by mikey61488 on May 20, 2009 11:18 AM EDT reply actions

“The New York Douchebag” is going to get KTFO. He’s a really shitty fighter.

by Brand0 on May 20, 2009 11:22 AM EDT reply actions

Battle of the PLUGS, this I wont pay for. Baroni and Riggs, what a joke!!!!

by the spyder on May 20, 2009 11:25 AM EDT reply actions

LOL BrandO…good one, like someone mentioned earlier its hard to believe riggs is only 25, for some reason can’t see him being a great, but still hope he ko’s baroni.

by nathan on May 20, 2009 2:47 PM EDT reply actions

You never quite know what you are going to get with Phil the Phoney. He currently is on a 3 fight winning streak over 3 unknowns to me. He can be exciting but as previously stated, he is known to gas. I just have a tough time dealing with the ridiculous entrance like in the Joey Villasenor fight and then watch him get stopped 1:11 into the fight. I’m ok with brash when you can back it up but he’s over the top and then has a showing like that.

And that Riggs-Diego match pissed me off. It was a great knee but a little bit lucky because he couldn’t have timed it any better as Riggs was only a fraction of a sec from being considered a grounded opponent (on one knee).

by sudnvictory on May 20, 2009 4:02 PM EDT reply actions

Phil always bring it? He has gassed in every fight I have seen at the end of the first round. Brings it is more than 1 round when you are a professional.
