Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker no longer in the Kimbo Slice business

Props: Sherdog.com
Quoteworthy:
"We had an option to exercise Kimbo’s contract from Pro Elite. Basically out of all those fighters we took, he was the only one that we didn’t grab –- it was an option to take [Slice’s contract.] With that option, there was an expiration date on it. In the very beginning, we tried to have dialogue with them about trying to make the deal a little more realistic and we just couldn’t work it out. At the end of the day, if we would have worked it out, we would have exercised the option. I still think that we’ll continue the dialogue and at some point, if he really wants to fight in MMA, then we’ll let him fight for us. Why not? Why not put him back in the mix? We just need to talk about a different arrangement, that’s all."
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker talks about passing on the contract of former EliteXC heavyweight Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson. The San Jose-based promotion, which recently purchased select Pro Elite assets (including the contract of Ferguson) appeared to be somewhat interested in keeping him on board for future programming on CBS and Showtime. However, it was unrealistic to think they would pay him $500,000 (what he got paid for the Petruzelli fight) to bang with middle-of-the-road competition. In the end, the two sides could not find a common ground financially, and Slice is now officially a free agent. Where will he surface next? Boxing? Japan? Alabama? Take a stab at it in the comments section...

the fact that Kimbo thought he’d get that kind of money is making me laugh! He’s literally worth maybe 25k to show 25 to win. That means if you put him up against any strikeforce HW’s we’ve talked about today, he’d get 25k for 20 seconds of work!

Haha, yeah. And if Kimbo thinks he’s going to fare any better in boxing, he’s in for a rude awakening.

Sorry to change the subject, but I prefer talking mma around here instead of backyard BBQ fighters!!!!!!! lol
Let me ask you guys a question about Kenny. Im going list world class lightweights, and I want to know which ones you guys think Kenny can beat:
Tatsuya Kawajiri
Eddie Alvarez
Diego Sanchez
Sean Sherk
Hellboy
Aoki
JZ
Mach Sakurai
gomi
josh thomson
El nino
Imo, one of my dream match ups would be:
Ken flo vs. Mach Sakurai
by john on May 20, 2009 7:12 AM EDT up reply actions
kawakiri – kenny would probably take a sub victory
eddie – kenny would definately kick his ass

sherk – could probably take kenny out again
hellboy – kenny by decision
aoki – aoki might catch a sub but hed probably get tkod
jz – 50/50
mach – cant call that
gomi – im gunna say kenny by sub
thompson – kenny i think
el nino – kenny
i tried everyone has there own opinion

thats gold….the only time he’s been wrong in picking a winner is when he picked Forest to beat Rashad

McArthur, I always like to remind people that Randy picked Tim over Nog and most recently he picked my boy Chuck over Shogun.

I can’t wait for his boxing debut. I am looking forward to it as much as i am to Sylvia getting KO’d by washed up extraordinaire Mercer.

From a business sense, what we think doesn’t matter as much as what the average fan thinks. We all (most of us on mmamania anyway) knew he sucked from day one. I’m just curious what his loss to Seth did to the opinion of Joe Blow.

MIKE PYLE,just sign with the UFC!And he’s being tapped as a last-minute replacement if any of the welterweights on UFC 98 card are forced to drop out at the last minute.

by Alpha Male 360 on May 20, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions
Haha! Now that really didn’t sound right didn’t it. I also thought Kevin’s comment the other day about sex and red meat was quite ambigious to the point that kev though english wasn’t one of my “strong suits”. But English[and hollywood]was actually my 1st language before I learned the language here…in any case, we’re cool with Kimbo in Japan[if that’s what billjames wants.]…

I’m not sure if he wants Kimbo going to Japan or himself go to Japan!
When is the Canne festival, that you want to present something(movie)?

Thanks for the interpretation Syd. Well the Japanese have a strong appreciation for spectacles. He’d actually do well there.

I think Dana should give hm a chance…..i cnt even keep a straight face saying that. ha
hopeully he does try his hand and at boxing cus im sick of him. just wonering if Bas wil continue to coach him even if he goes overseas.
Neways ne1 think we should do a fight prediction poll for the EVANS VS MACHIDA FIGHT like for the GSP/BJ fight because it could go either way and its gonna be 1 helluva fight??
by Randy for Couture on May 19, 2009 10:35 PM EDT reply actions
Well if there’s another Adam-G like threader here, then why not. As for me, Machida via Urine shot/solo bukkake!

by RiverHorror on May 20, 2009 3:04 AM EDT up reply actions
Bas stopped training him after Kimbo refused to work on his submission defence for the Shamrock fight. It’s bad enough not learning how to defend leglocks when you’re set to face Shamrock (even if he is washed up) but for a novice to ignore the instructions of such a renowned and respected trainer like Bas is sickening and shows what an egomaniac Kimbo is. I’m glad that Strikeforce didn’t sign him up, the guy has no business being in MMA.
As for Lyoto-Rashad, I’m going with a Rashad UD but it could go either way.
by David W-S on May 20, 2009 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions
thanks for that info – excuse my ignorance on the topic – just dont look up on my kimbo knowledge..
good to know though i can actually hate kimbo now since he dissed Bas! b4 i thought he was just a guy who struck it lucky so although i had no interest in him or believe he should be in MMA i had no problems with him as a person but now its personal! lol
im a total Lyoto fan but just something about not doubting Rashad and Greg Jackson and his gameplans has swayed me to pick Rashad..but i could change my mind – im dying to see Page and Shad though cus i couldnt see Rampage beating Lyoto – heed get 2 impatient and make mistakes esp if he didnt check the leg kicks!

Kimbo is all washed up. He doesn’t deserve a fight whatsoever. He should hang up his gloves because he has pussy whipped chin.

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on May 20, 2009 1:28 AM EDT up reply actions
I’m tired of everybody disrespecting Kevin Ferguson. My brothers sisters cousin by marriage said that he heard that “Kimbo” didn’t want to sign with Strikeforce. He signed with Youtube so that he can avenge his one loss on his otherwise perfect record of unsanctioned overrated fights against cops. Look for Kimbo Slice vs. Sean Gannon at Youtube 100. The early line has Slice at -120.

he’ll go into boxing, which is what he should have done in the first place…he’s too old to start in mma…too much to learn. he already has pretty good “boxing” skills they can build on. but mma? not so much. i don’t think his heart was in mma anyway…all he ever wanted to do was stand and bang (uh, like boxing).
by B_Hos on May 20, 2009 12:07 AM EDT reply actions
Yeah, but the guys he’ll meet in boxing like to stand and bang, too… and unlike Kimbo, they’re good at it. They may even have extensive formal training that (gasp) could surpass the Asskicking 101 class that Kimbo attended behind Taco Bell.

just feed this douche to lashley already…just to show how much of a fucking mma fraud he is…him and lashley have the same amount off mma experience…they weigh about the same…classic grappler vs striker…

dude the fight was close as hell for 3.7 seconds, give the guy some credit…he was holding his own up until then…shit happens…he dominated the entrance…he looked good in the staredown….dude was winning every aspect, he was the aggressor..and for like 3.9 seconds he was winning the round….
and if all rounds were 3.9 seconds long he would have won the round…kimbo just got caught…u cant say he didnt dominate that fight for the first 3.9 seconds, dude had cage control…he was winning in every aspect, he was the aggressor, he was moving forward….dude fought a brilliant 3.9 seconds…dont take away all of that just because he spent the next like 12 seconds getting humiliated and murdered…
