I agree with hardhat, that is a pretty nice place to train. Padded roof for mma/bjj, and a weight room and a traditional hardwood dojo inside.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never done it, but if the reward is great, I see nothing wrong with it. Some people abstain from sex or don’t eat meat, I do both…to each his own!

by kevin on May 18, 2009 5:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You don’t eat meat and abstain from sex? Pretty tough. well I guess when I’m a little bit older from now, I’ll be treading that path…

by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on May 18, 2009 5:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do have sex and do eat meat, I’ll take it easy on you syd, I know english isn’t your strong suit!

by kevin on May 18, 2009 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol, re-read your statement. English is my strong suit

by Bennie Blanco on May 18, 2009 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

“I do both” as in I eat meat and have sex. it’s called proper english! I practice both would mean I abstained! I do see what your saying, but syd knows I have a kid, so i though he got mixed up! I can see what you’re saying, but I think I’m right!

by kevin on May 18, 2009 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He basically said some people dont eat or have sex, BUT he does both. meaning he doesnt abstain from it read it again

by DSmith on May 18, 2009 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see little front kicks thrown to keep Rashad from coming forward and possibly trip. This is shaping up to be a really interesting and exciting fight. I really wonder how Rashad will respond to Machida’s style and if Machida will attack Rashad or just sit back.

by A Lynch on May 18, 2009 4:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think we’ll see a more aggressive Machida in this fight. He knows Rashad is a counter-puncher and he knows he has to go after the belt in a title fight. Machida’s speed and skill will be too much for Rashad, and if he’s rolling with Ishii you know he’ll be prepared on the ground as well.

by Jeremyjackson on May 18, 2009 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rashad is going to look clueless!

by john on May 18, 2009 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I wonder how he linked up with Iishi?

by john on May 18, 2009 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

kevin probably Lyoto’s father speaks Japanese fluently he spent his childhood (and maybe teens years?) in Japan, so probably, being the father of a LHW UFC contender, someone from Ishii’s management talked with them and he’s training and getting introduced to MMA with them. Not sure, but this seems what’s most likely to me.

by krezylobstah on May 18, 2009 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Iishi had a look around at alot of training camps, including Xtreme Couture but he decided he wanted to train in Brazil instead. I guess someone then suggested he go train with Lyoto for Rashad.

by Ermac on May 18, 2009 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

JJ!Like i told you the other day…I think that Suga, will be capable to close the distance, while eating, ones of Machida’s strikes. When Machida’s throws his right jabs,he’s also make a huge step foward. If Suga, can shrug off the blow, while stepping forwards then he,can clip Machida’s on the chin pretty hard.Plus when Lyoto’s getting hits,he have a tendency to backpedal without any defence.Look to his old fights you’ll see what i’m talking about!I’m thinking that Rashad explosiveness, will make the difference in that fight! But if Lyoto wins(b/c he’s so much more technical striker, than Suga)i won’t be disappointed either!

by Alpha Male 360 on May 18, 2009 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We’ll see, Alpha. Machida’s stabbing jabs are all about timing. He won’t just throw it out of nowhere, and his head movement is so good when he comes in that he is very hard to catch. I suspect that if Rashad steps forward, Lyoto will step sideways and counter with straight, short punches.

Machida does drop his hands when he backpedals sometimes, but that is against guys he knows are too slow to catch him. He may also be trying to bait his more sluggish opponents into foolishly lunging forward with a haymaker.

Can’t wait to see what strategy both of these guys bring into the cage on Saturday. They are both talented and worthy champions, although Rashad tends to behave like a douche. I’m going to make a concerted effort to not be hopelessly inebriated by the time the main event starts this time. I want to actually be able to remember this fight the next day, unlike UFC 97.

by Jeremyjackson on May 18, 2009 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL!you, can always record it…that’s,very helpful on those times!I feel the same way though…i can’t wait!

by Alpha Male 360 on May 19, 2009 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

jJ: I also think that machida ONLY drops his hands to try to bait his opponents into coming after him agressively, shich is exactly what he wants!

The guy is a genius, I dont think any of his motions are wasted, He is constantly setting something up 3 moves in advance!

by john on May 19, 2009 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he looks good in his trainig and it should b a good fight however im still pulling for rashad, one thing i will say his english has come on really well , its difficult to learn a new language and he done a fine job

Machida will win by round 3…Head kick KO..A great Samuarie will win over kick boxer/wrestler..just no comparison. Rashad got nothing to offer – he just got lucky in his last 3 fights..he was losing to Forrest untill it went to the ground and Machida has way better strike than Forrest.

I am usually a Rashad Nuthugger..but Machida is going to kick the piss out of him. I have no doubt in my mind that Machida is going to be champ after saturday. That guy is just amazing. Its not that I am doubting Rashad, I just don’t see Rashad having the tools to take Machida out.

I watched the video a few times…

His timing is like no other fighter I’ve seen. The Karate “base”…who is Rashad going to train with to counter that?

Are there any other fighters that have a Karate background at his level?

This is going to be a great fight.

by DubNub on May 18, 2009 10:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

GSP has a karate base! He can train with him

by BadNutz on May 18, 2009 11:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah karate men bleed on the inside, Machida is going to be the new champ an no one going to knock him off the peak for a long time.

by bigmcmac on May 18, 2009 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

GSP doesn’t have the same style of fighting as Machida. I think GSP started with Karate but then developed into traditional MMA skills.

Maybe I meant fighting style. That camp he comes from is unique to say the least.

You know what I hate? The Machida haters.

I appreciate Martial Arts for what it is and Machida is a masterful fighter. Why get your face smashed in if you don’t have to?

I have a feeling the people who find Machida boring are the ones you see in the crowd at UFC events who have no appreciation of skill, more than likely wear “Beer hats”, do “rock n roll” finger gestures at the camera (while sticking their tongues out, of course) and are booing if they don’t see blood 10 seconds into a fight.

Probably the same people who think someone with a flat nose and scars is “Hard”, to me it says he gets punched in the face a lot, nothing more.

The skill of fighting is to stop your opponent while taking as little damage yourself as possible, in that Machida is one of the best there is (alongside Anderson Silva), it’s not their fault if their opponents aren’t up to the job. Do not compare them with Kalib Starnes, running away while not trying to stop your attacker is simply running away.
