Lyoto Machida can see the future -- and Brock Lesnar is in it

Props: Tatame.com
Quoteworthy:
"I don’t think about fight at heavyweight division, but I think about a challenge, maybe against the heavyweight champion, but it’s time for it now. My focus, for sure, is on my division now, later is later. Maybe a fight against Brock Lesnar. He’s a huge guy, showed himself very aggressive and strong, who knows if one day we can fight… I respect him as a fighter, he’s very strong, but I’m professional and I’d like to test myself."
Undefeated light heavyweight Lyoto Machida talks about life outside of his division and a possible fight against UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. Hopefully this fantasy doesn't cloud his focus on May 23 -- "The Dragon" has a very tall order in front of him: defeat reigning 205-pound champion "Sugar" Rashad Evans at UFC 98. A victory over Evans will likely set up a fight between the Brazilian and former 205-pound kingpin Quinton "Rampage" Jackson after a rumored stint on TUF 10, putting any kind of Lesnar "test" on the shelf...for now.

Guys take a look at this!Lyoto Machida and Atonio Inoki slap of respect?
by Alpha Male 360 on May 15, 2009 10:34 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I remember when I first saw that and wondered if it was for real. Another one to watch is Inoki beating one of his guys up for losing backstage. (dont have the link as Im at work and cant access youtube)
Its brutal and would be more than enough motivation to win a fight in my eyes!

I don’t even want to read all the posts that I’m sure will follow like, this guy is out of his mind, blah, blah, blah. He said “wants to fight” not “will win.” Wanting to fight the biggest baddest MF you can find to test your skills is cool IMO.

Lyoto vs Fedor? Maybe if Lyoto is as good as people say he is.
by RyanHobbs on May 15, 2009 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Rashad will be Lyotos toughest test. I never thought Thiago was that great. I was never convinced that Thiago Silva was top 10. In my opinion , Lyotos toughest test was in Tito Ortiz. I am not saying that Lyoto isn’t GREAT, but I think he still has a lot to prove and it starts with Rashad.

Why do you guys hate machida so much i hate rashad he’s to in to himself and there’s only three fighter i hate
Rashad
Matt Hughes
Kenny Florian
Mir and BJ Penn are starting to get on my nerves

Ihate kenflo because of one comment he made “I FINISH FIGHTS” o.k. am a fan then he go’s in to the fight with huerta and nothing not wanting to trade yes he won but he did not finish the fight
by SLEEPER on May 15, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
dude thats the only fight kenny won that he didnt finish the guy, he finished 7 people in 7 wins…that sounds like a finisher to me
by JG on May 15, 2009 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
and then he finished joe daddy pretty easily
by JG on May 15, 2009 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know that now but the first fight i saw of him was when he maid that comment and then i saw the huerta fight i thought iwas was goingt to see a war but that kenflo didn’t show i guess he disappointed me
by SLEEPER on May 15, 2009 11:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Huerta tried to bait Kill-Flo into a brawl, and Kill-Flo wouldn’t bite on it. Kenny spent the whole fight engaging him in a technical boxing and kickboxing match and won. Huerta is an insanely difficult guy to finish.
by PW on May 15, 2009 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The reason why he started saying that is because he was being criticzed early in his career for NOT finishing fights.
by Neeko on May 15, 2009 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Thats why he got me bad i like guys that put on a good fight win or lose i don’t care like alexander i don’t care if he won or lost as long as it’s good the only person thats not like that and i like is machida he can run all day and ill be a fan don’t know why
by SLEEPER on May 15, 2009 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
@Neeko
I thought he was saying that as a direct shot at Sean Sherk. Sean laid and prayed during their title fight, then he did the same against Franca.
by mikemick on May 15, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Sherk just layed and preyed Kenny, then why was he gushing blood all over the mat?
by O damn he got caught on May 15, 2009 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
How can you hate K-Flo!! Rashad (who I hate) and Matt Hughes (who I like but he’s starting to get on my nerves with some of his comments about other fighters) are on a completely different level.
by WB on May 15, 2009 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s easy.
Watch a fighter repeatedly use illegal strikes to the back of the head on a few opponents and you might get disgusted…
That’s about it.

Get off of kenflo’s nuts, seriously.

I never thought about it but I wouldn’t write him off. I think he would have a good chance. Brock has his size and speed but if any light heavyweight could beat Brock, it would be Machida.
As Lestat said, he’s a true martial artist, that is, he’s just so technical and well rounded. His style is so good that size is less significant as it would be against someone else.
He’s a great fighter.
by Johnny Farnham on May 15, 2009 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Thanks buddy. I also meant spirit wise, reminds me of Bruce Lee.
And I am not not a Machida bandwagon jumper he has been my favorite fighter for over a year now.

Yeah, enter 80% of the site to tell us why this is a great idea. However if Shad said this it would be 200 comments about what a cocky piece of crap Shad is for mentioning Lesnar’s name. That’s the double standard I was talking about when it comes to people hating on Shad. Anyways, good luck at 98 Machida, you’re going to need it.

the Dragon is the man!! even A.silva says he can’t catch him, and u konw he’s a threat if silva can’t touch him- what a dream team to train with Big Nog, A.silva, Loyoto- if u throw GSP in their it’ll be a illegal camp to train with lol

by attakdog on May 15, 2009 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah your right, even anderson silva has stated numerous times, machida schools him when they spar, and even he cant touch machida, just goes to show how much higher level he is than anyone
by dtoto on May 15, 2009 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Everyone in a camp tries to pump up their buddies. I’m sure that deep down Silva believes he could beat Machida. You don’t go on a tear like Silva has without thinking you are close to invincible.

he would beat brock lol brock wouldnt be able to catch him

Dude is just saying he wants to test himself, I respect it. I have a feeling he might also get the “Spider-syndrome” to a lesser extent. I see him beating every threat in the division and after 3 or 4 fights (Rashad, Rampage, maybe Shogun) he will get bored with the competition and try and test the waters at HW.
All I care about right now is him laying a beating on Rashad.

lyoto better be focusing on evans because I dont think he is going to win at 98, I think evans is too strong right now.
Nonetheless I would love to see lyoto vs lesnar
machida would have a better chance to beat him then Mir does at ufc100… i see it going a lot like the beginning of the first fight, except this time i dont see frank being able to scramble for a submission……lesnar is a different fighter then he was the first time they met
by aj on May 15, 2009 10:35 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree with you about that. It kills me to hear Mir talking about how he schooled Lesner the first fight. Meanwhile, anyone watching the fight knows that 1. The fight should of never been brought back to the feet for the back of the head punch with no warning, as was done and 2. 30 seconds of unanswered ground and pound after being knocked to the ground by one punch would normally have the ref calling for the ringside doc after he called the fight to protect the fighter doing his punching bag immitation. In this case Mir. Instead the ref does not call the fight, takes a point away from Lesnar who then gets nervous thinking he went from being ahead to all the sudden behind on points and had to give up his position of advantage.
Lesnar has greatly evolved but is still green. I have heard interviews however with Mir stating that Lesnar will not be able to out muscle him as he did with other competitors. I hope for Mir’s sake that is pre fight psychological stragety because if he believes he will be able to match Lesnar on a strenght and speed level he is out of his mind.

Slow your roll there Lyoto. 1st Take care of business on the 23rd. Then go buy a PS3 and a copy of “UFC Undisputed” and fight Ham-Hock as many times as you like.
After you get your fill. Get back to work, finish clearing out the LHW division, then look for the next challenge.
I love the enthusiasm though.
WAR CHIDA!!!!

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Lyoto is a very intresting fighter and I love his style, but everyone needs to calm down. Evans is by far his toughest challenge so lets see how well he does against the top fighters @ 205 before we start entertaining thoughts of Lyoto vs. Brock.

Man I think I ma going to call out Chuck Norris. I hate these idiots who run their mouths. Just like he fights…..always running. He is good but Brock eats Steaks as big as this guy.

let’s see how this fight pans out..then on to bigger things..i hope this is an exciting fight..if he is as elusive as he seems he has a good chance..rashad is cocky but he is a real threat to anyones chin..i pray this does not turn into a dance party..with rashad doing a lil dance and lyoto trying to stay outta striking distance..as long as there is a bunch of stick and move, stick and move
by sarah on May 15, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Don’t worry yourself about Brock sun. He’s far too big for you to run around all night, you’ll be exhausted by the second round!
by attakdog on May 15, 2009 11:23 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
damn machida get ur head in the game and just beat rashad
by bump on May 15, 2009 11:28 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That will never happen. 205 is too stacked. Brock might not beat Mir (lost to him once) and Lyoto might not beat Rashad. If anyone at 205 can beat Machida it is Rashad. If Lyoto wins and should, he will have to face Rampage a fan favorite. If he wins that he will be an mma god like Fedor. Shogun vs Anderson is what I wanna see.
by hatteras on May 15, 2009 12:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Winner of Rashad/Lyoto will be a coach ( TUF ) with Rampage next season btw , my source is 100% .. And then the Coaches will fight in December.

my guess is 220
that was his weight when he fought bj i think
but regardless he doent look bigger than most lhw out there

‘’he’s very strong but I’m professional’’
so Lesnar ain’t professional?
I think Machida just pulled a rabbit out of his *ss.
But drinking pee and that maybe comes hand in hand.

Lyoto is highly skilled and very slippery. But, hitting a solid 285 lb monster like Lesnar doesn’t yield the same results as hitting a 210 pounder. Like hitting a 50lb bag and hitting a 100lb bag is totally different. Also, I don’t think he could withstand one hit, two at the most, from Lesnar. I just lost a little respect for Lyoto.
