I’m not a Forrest fan but at least with him in there, this fight is going to end; A. Silva won’t get the chance to dance around play with him, he’ll have to fight.

by O damn he got caught on May 15, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hate this matchup. I think criteria number one should be that A. Silva’s next opponent have serious KO power. Number two should be someone who has decent GnP. Forrest has neither. I love Forrest, but how can he win this fight? Outside of Forrest pulling a crazy sub out his ass I don’t see it happening. And why give Forrest another L. I don’t get it.

All that being said, I will still be pumped when the fight starts.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on May 15, 2009 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the only thing I don’t get is how he keeps getting these fights; he gets KO’d by keith Jardine, then gets Shogun (considered best LHW in the world), then he gets TKO’d by Evans and gets A. Silva, best p4p in the world… How the hell do you get these kinds of shots coming off of loss’s??

by O damn he got caught on May 15, 2009 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well he beat Shogun and then Rampage, two formidable opponents.

by MikeD on May 15, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m not gonna go there, suffice to say that neither Shogun nor Rampage really showed up, either night.

by O damn he got caught on May 15, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dont even get how u guys find forrest funny! I dont even come close to laughing when listening to him speak. To me it just sounds like its forced, as if he is just trying to hard to be funny!

This match up is Silly. THere isnt a single thing that forrest can do to make Silva uncomfortable in a fight.

THe fact that Forrest is completely outclassed in this fight should be proof that he is an over rated light heavyweight. Maybe not over rated, but there is a pretty big gap between Forrest and guys like Rampage, Shogun on 2 legs,Machida and Rashad, who I who’s odds I would like against Silva. Forrest on the other hand has simply NO SHOT!!! Its going to end ugly for Forrest…Everyone knows how this fight will play out, but Im still thrilled to see it in Philly. Forrest will be spending some time in Pennsylvania hospital the night of August 8th, n Silva will be up at old city Partying!

john, you ever gonna get back to me?

by kevin on May 15, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Forrest just lacks KO Power. He was beating Rashad. He usually has a great guard. I don’t think he’s overrated. I just think he lacks KO power. All the other top tier LHW’s have it and he doesn’t. So he either wins or get’s KO’d. I think it’s formula for him to bounce in out of top 5 over his career.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on May 15, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

@ OD:

Consider who he lost to. A loss to a high ranked fighter doesn’t drop you that much in the rankings. Look at Rampage. He got his ass kicked by Griffin (Page’s own words) and barely got by Jardine (sqeaker decision). Now he gets a title shot. That kind of thing happens in all divisions. Guys at the top don’t go to the back of the line with one loss.

Forrest beat Shogun (supposedly the best; fanboys are coming out now that he’s winning again) and Rampage. Then lost a title fight to Rashad Evans who is still undefeated. Why wouldn’t he get to fight Silva? Silva has not proven himself at 205 yet.

by wAyNe on May 15, 2009 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well! The best striker that Silva has faced are:Franklin,Sakurai,Hendo,Cote,Leben,Murray,Rivera?
We have to,consider that Forrest is at least basically equal to the best strikers Silva has gone up against! So it,will be a hard fight till the last bell.I think Forrest has the size to put Silva on his back and GnP him and get the TKO.
Also Silva tends to get on the “cruise control” and get lazy during longer fights. We have seen this before! In old fights that lazyness are THE reason why,he lost previously.Forrest has proved more, than once that he,will fight till the last second!

by john on May 15, 2009 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

your from Philly, you should be used to getting your balls busted, isn’t that what you guys do?

by kevin on May 15, 2009 5:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ovaries: Forrest’s guard is the most over rated thing in mma! He always gets TKO’ed out of his guard! He sucks at controlling his opponents posture thus eats big shots that his bitch made chin cant handle! lol..also who the hell has he ever submitted out of his guard? he holds no wins by triangle, kimura, armbar, gogo’s, omo’s…..and his sweeps r nothing to write home about either.

So I am so damn sick oof all the talk about how good his guard is because I wouldnt rate it any higher then average. Yes he is a pretty decent grappler in general, but his guard is just average.

Wayne: this shogun fanboy, never once doubted or stopped rooting for shogun! Not all of us are bandwagon hopping homo’s!

by john on May 15, 2009 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

how do you know I been breaking your balls without your phone?

by kevin on May 15, 2009 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wayne: I won’t get into why I don’t feel Forrest has really beaten Rampage or Shogun, but at %100 I feel either fighter would THRASH him. Rampage even came out and said he was joking after the Forrest fight when he said he “kicked his @ss”, he’s also said in several interviews that he doesn’t feel he lost that fight (and I agree with him). Page, went on to KO Wandi, then beat down Jardine, I don’t know how you saw that as a “squeaker” decision, Rampage clearly won every round.

Forrest getting KO’d by Jardine and then getting a fight with what most people viewed as the worlds #1 LHW in Shogun at the time was undeserved imo. Now coming off a TKO loss to Rashad Evans, he gets an even better shot at a man considered the top P4P fighter on the planet. It’s all about who you know apparently, not how good you are.

by O damn he got caught on May 15, 2009 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But Forrest vs. Shogun was a good match-up. The good thing about Forrest is that he matches up well. This nonsense about him being undeserving doesn’t fly.

Of course there is a hierarchy of fighters but that doesn’t mean every match-up has to be systematic. I like the arbitrary selections.

I don’t know how anyone could not like this fight.

by Johnny Farnham on May 15, 2009 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not saying I don’t like the fight; I’m looking forward to it myself; I think Griffin is a tough durable guy that can take a lot of punishment and keep moving forward. I’m just saying it seems like he catch’s a lot more big breaks/opportunities than is warranted.

by O damn he got caught on May 15, 2009 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I hear what you’re saying. I suppose, being technical, he probably does get more opportunities than others, but some fighters are more marketable than others and it’s just the way it goes. But it’s not like he is a complete can; he’s a top ten LHW so he has that flexibility and marketability on his side.

I’m all for it.

by Johnny Farnham on May 15, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This fight was booked for one reason and one reason only. Forrest is not going to dance around the Octagon without engaging. He is going to bring it, unlike Silva’s last 2 opponents. Both these fighters admit to being hyperactive children and this is going to be a high energy fight. Forrest is obviously the underdog in this one, but I will never count him out after watching him beat Shogun and Rampage.

by DrPepper on May 15, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John, Forrest does have a pretty good guardy. He’s contained a lot of guys. He’s lost out of his guard twice to top-level fighters. I’m not saying his guard is phenomenal or anything but he can stay alive off of his back with most LHW’s. Also, I never said he had an offensive guard either.

Man, I point out the guys flaws and say I don’t think he stands a chance against Silva, and that’s not insulting enough, lol.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on May 16, 2009 12:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

forrests style is tailor made for a silva ko. forrest will be lucky to get out of the first round. 2nd rd KO, silva by broken nose. alfred e newman is going down.

by buttcrack obama bin laden on May 16, 2009 12:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ovaries: I wasnt trying to attack you, I just think Forrest guard is over rated. He has no Ko power, so to justify him being a good fighter, people bring up is AVERAGE Guard n make it out to be something special!

Odamn: Great post man! That is EXACTLY why I hate on FOrrets! He hasnt EARNED half of the opportunities that he has been presented, and I hate that! It honestlty DRIVES ME INSANE!!! Watching Silva put him on queer street will be liberating!

by john on May 16, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m not asking this as though you won’t have an answer, as I’m sure you will, but who do you think he should be matched up with to, as you say, earn the right?

I suppose these opportunities have stemmed from his original fight with Bonnar and being the victor, then facing Tito Ortiz, despite getting smashed in the first round, he held his own against him. As we can see now, it isn’t anything particularly spectacular but at the time he was considered the junior fighter and he proved he could hold his own with the higher echelon of fighters. (Once again, before all you haters cry foul about me saying Tito is high echelon, as I said, at the TIME he still had some prestige. I still think Tito is a good fighter although he’s one dimensional and pretty much done.)

But don’t tell me you thought his fight with Tito was not entertaining.

And Forrest had his chance against Shogun because it was Shogun’s welcoming to the UFC, he hadn’t proven himself yet (in the UFC) so it was worthwhile to have him fight Forrest, someone with skill who provides entertaining fights even when he loses. It’s better that way as opposed to just giving him a fight with the champ.

by Johnny Farnham on May 16, 2009 12:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Forrest DESERVES to be fighting guys like Banha Cane, Tiago Silva, Rematch with Jardine (who I still dont think Forrest can beat), Brandon Vera, I dont know that Forrest can beat Rich Franklin or Dan Henderson either!

This is a great matchup for Anderson. Good call by Joe Silva – makes up for putting Thales Leites in there in a main event.

by Drake_Labatt on May 15, 2009 2:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think we will see a new record for the most combined leg kicks thrown in one round. Then, we will most likely see another highlight TKO from Silva at some point in the 2nd. Should be fun…

by Cole on May 15, 2009 2:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I hope Forrest beats Anderson.
I have a feeling that he is going to take a punch in the face and drop to the ground though. :|

by natas on May 15, 2009 2:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I give Forrest a shot in this fight. He has only been TKOed from his guard. He needs to tighten that up for sure, but he has a solid chin and can put Anderson on his back and control the fight. It is only a 3 round fight. If it were 5 I would say it is a different story.

i’d say jardine knocked him out from standing considering jardine DROPPED him with a punch, i think forrest is in for it here, he can win but he better be smarter and sharper then ever

by randy murders on May 15, 2009 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So did Rashad. Of course, Rashad wouldn’t have known to do that if his BFF Jardine hadn’t done it first.

by PW on May 15, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL.

Jardine: “Hey, Shad. Here’s the plan…punch him in the face. He’ll never expect that.”

Give me a break!

by wAyNe on May 15, 2009 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lighten up wAyNe. It was a joke in reference to the fact that Jardine KO’d Griffin, then Rashad beat Griffin. And Jardine beat Liddell, then Rashad KO’d Liddell. And Jardine fought Rampage shortly before everyone expected Rashad to fight Rampage. So Jardine has given Rashad a blueprint for his last two fights and what was thought to be his third.

by PW on May 15, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course being in the same camp helps, but Rashad would have won regardless. He’s a smart fighter and the champ for a reason. Too bad he has to face Machida next though.

I think this fight will be a replica of Forrest Evans fight .. with Anderson dropping him with a sharp punch and then raining down punches until Forrest taps.

check out the latest interview with chuck lidell on mma madness:

"I need some time off anyway, and when everyone stops worrying about it, I’ll make my decision on my own," Liddell said.

"Right now, I couldn’t say that I’m not going to fight again."

"I’ll listen to [White] as a friend, but he’s not going to make me do anything," Liddell stated, before issuing a warning:

"The last thing you want to do if you want me to do something is to tell me I have to do it."

"I told [White and Hackleman], ‘It’s between you guys,’" Liddell said. "They both care about me in their own way."

I guaran-damn-tee that this fight will go to a decision, and it won’t be a lopsided victory for whoever wins, it will be an evenly fought contest. Either way, Anderson Silva’s credibility as P4P no. 1 will take a blow after this fight, win, lose or draw.

by jayshogun on May 15, 2009 5:27 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i’ll take that bet. forrests straight ahead style is similar to most of silva’s ko victims. counter striking is his bread and butter, look up silva’s ko’s and you’ll see what i’m talking about. forrests style is similar to a rich franklin with no ko power.

As i try to think about who poses the toughtest matchup for A. Silva, the guy that would give him the most problems……it keeps coming around to the same guy…..GSP. I feel GSP will handle Alves. Not easily, but i don’t think it will be as close as everyone thinks……and that pretty much leaves nobody in the WW division to challenge GSP. It will be an obvious matchup, as soon as Silva beats Forrest. Even though GSP is in a lighter weight class, i think that GSP is easily the stronger of the two, and he’s every bit as athletic. Mark my words, these two will meet, and it will be a superfight for the ages.

Who else out there would pose the most difficult fight for Silva? I’d be curious to see what everyone thinks…..

by kg on May 15, 2009 6:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Shogun.
Rampage.
Fedor.

by scissorfight on May 15, 2009 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he will be huge compared to GSP! You guys fail to realize how big silva actually is! Forrest is a big LHW and won’t have a big size advantage over Silva!
Fedor/Silva is the dream match! Anyone who says otherwise is crazy!

KG totally agree with ya. I’d love to see GSP and silva go at it. Silva is a beast period but GSP is a stud and I’d love to see them go at it! Hey but I’m still pumped to see griffin and silva could easily go either way. And the reason I love this fight is there will be no dancing just straight fighting between two amazing competitors.
