***Wow Freddy, that one transcends even my ability to fail you. I’m forced to call in the Wandy fail wagon.

I think this is when Chuck Liddell lost the decision to Jardine.
by O damn he got caught on May 13, 2009 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Actually I think it was the Liddell KO to Evans? Anyone?
by Jesse Holland on May 13, 2009 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions
yea 99% sure it was after the Rashad fight because there was talk of a remtach between him and wandy thus wandy’s dissappointment!
by Randy for Couture on May 13, 2009 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions
interesting how dana is calling for chuck to retire whhen this guy has gotten destoryed as badly as liddell in his last 5 fights. he’s 1-4 and 3 of the 4 losses have come by KO, not TKO like liddell has, there’s a difference. I think if silva is destroyed in this fight he should retire, though im not sure that will happen but this guy has easily taken more punishment that liddell over his career yet no call by dana for him to retire.
wonder if this is part of the whole ‘brazilian time’ thing that shawn tompkins was talking about.

He does this after his workout with the snorkel, the ice helps the body heal up faster and ease the wear and tear. Also there’s a difference between being older, slower and physically not capable of competing at the highest level, which is where Chuck seems to be and Wanderlei; who is 32-33 years old, not over the hill and just in a bad slump.
by O damn he got caught on May 13, 2009 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions
Damn He Got Caught…that’s gotta be the most naive thing I ever heard. Wandy hasn’t been the same since Crocop knocked him out. People change after getting knocked out a couple of times. He’s still strong. He still has that power. But so does Chuck. These guys just aren’t as good as taking the shots like they used to and lost a little bit of head movement as well.
by Jon on May 13, 2009 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions
so how is he naive? Its alot harder to tell someone that is only 33 to retire.
by McArthur on May 13, 2009 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions
Who has KO’d Wandi, think about that; Cro Cop, Hendo, Rampage; all 3 known for their KO power. Why didn’t he go down when Chuck hit him in the face 50 times during their match? Chuck never landed some pretty damn good shots; but nothing flush on the jaw or the temple. Wandi took a crap load of punishment in that fight and held up just fine. Then in the next match KO’s Jardine.
Your logic doesn’t hold up; it’s not his chin thats the problem, its his style. Please name a fighter that wouldn’t have been KO’d by those shots, Rampages left, Dans right, Cro Cops left kick; who wouldn’t have gone down catching one of those flush? No one. And how many surgeries has Wanderlei gone through? I think maybe one elbow surgery? Maybe a knee surgery? How many fights does he pull out of due to injury?
Chuck never had good head movement; he always moves straight back, find a fight where Chuck is bobbing and weaving, and link it to me please; and that left that Shogun caught him with, imo didn’t look all that devestating.

oops, I mean Chuck landed some pretty damn good shots

33 is definitely not too old, but Wandy does have a lot of hard miles on him. Ultimately however, it’s up to the fighter to decide how long they wish to fight. Wandy vs Franklin will likely tell a lot. It is for sure a fight he cannot afford to look badly in.
by CL on May 13, 2009 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions
I dont think the Franklin fight will tell us much of anything. A loss for either guy can be attributed to the irregular weight class. And because of the irregular weight class it doesnt really effect their future standings in the MW and LHW divisions. Not to mention both are elite fighters, and a loss to either guy is nothing detrimental to a career.

Dude really??? Come on now… watch it again:

Looks pretty “Devastating” to me
by Ballam on May 13, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions
I know, Ballam… Shogun winds up and steps forward with a huge left that catches Chuch right on the jawline. Looks like a punch that would KO pretty much any LHW to me.
by Jeremyjackson on May 13, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Looks like it caught him on his cheek right below the eye, and looked like Chuck also started moving backwards at the time, so momentum should have been moving with the punch. Imo, thats not a devestating KO shot; just an indication of Chuck’s chin. I don’t think that shot would’ve KO’d anyone it hit. You can’t compare that to Wandy’s KO’s those were without question much more powerful.
by O damn he got caught on May 13, 2009 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Should watch it again JJ, that punch does not land on his jaw line.
by O damn he got caught on May 13, 2009 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions
And look at the punch again and watch where he throws it from, he doesn’t barely wind up at all. It wasn’t telegraphed 1 bit.
by O damn he got caught on May 13, 2009 6:13 PM EDT up reply actions
Maybe not the jawline, but still the jaw, not the cheek. And once again, that is a full-power bomb thrown from the body. His hands aren’t in front of his face when he throws it. He plants his feet wide and leans into it. If Chuck was eating Wanderlei’s shots a year ago and not buckling, I’d say he got hit with something pretty serious there.
by Jeremyjackson on May 13, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions
I guess I just don’t see it, when I look at that impact its above Chucks jaw on his cheek closer to his eye, Shoguns right leg is also moving forward at the time of impact off the left hook, it looked like a good solid shot but not the one I’d expect to put Chuck away like that.
by O damn he got caught on May 13, 2009 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions
I still don’t think that would have shut Chuck down 3-4 years ago, the other post is in moderation so I won’t repeat what I said there; should be up in a few though.
by O damn he got caught on May 13, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions
I think Chuck’s reflexes have cost him his fights lately, not his jaw. The Rashad punch would have dropped anybody. The old Chuck might have weaved enough to make these punches glancing blows, instead of full-impact bombs.
Then again, maybe the old Chuck wasn’t fighting guys with good enough stand-up to hit him squarely. It’s hard to know for sure.
by Jeremyjackson on May 13, 2009 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions
if you watch the punch from a side angle – it shows that it was not as powerful as it looked and not even that fast – it is as odamn said an indication of chucks chin!
by Randy for Couture on May 13, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Wandy is much younger than Liddell, plus the fact that he may not be such a close personal friend. Dana’s view on Chuck is to try and help a friend not an employee.

I have done it after finishing each of my Iron Man races. It’s an uncomfortable, but effective way to instantly reduce inflammation, muscle fatigue and pain. The cold causes a lack of blood flow to extremities. It “resets” the body’s inflammatory process and in that, speeds healing.
It feels like every nerve in your body suddenly screams at once.

I think he’s in there looking for Anderson Silva’a last couple of performances.

ice is a great repair system for small muscle damage and swelling, anyone who thinks that that the whole body submerged in ice water is easy has never suffered sports injury. which is probably a large percentage of the key board warrior’s who blab on here.
