I know. Leben is coming off a steroid suspension though. Would be good to see where theyre both at.

nah, Reljic is gonna pound Cote out into a pretzel pulp.

leben would be a good fight…. plus i have not seen leben in a while… Cote is talked about a lot lately and i have no clue why. He hasnt done anything to get me excited for a fight other than run his mouth. He had a sloppy fight with Big Dawg and well Anderson Silva didnt even have to throw a punch or kick to TKO him… lol
by Gil on May 12, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions
I can’t view the video while at work, but Cote should fight someone near the top. Chris Leben doesnt qualify, even though Leben beat Cote.
I don’t think he should be given an automatic rematch with the Spider just because he was injured during the fight. The UFC wouldnt be able to sell it. However, I’ll give Cote credit, his last real loss was to Lutter in ’06 during the TUF Finale. Give Cote the loser between Hendo and Bisping, or the loser between Marquardt and Maia. Personally, I think any one of those guys would take out Cote.
by Stryker on May 12, 2009 11:25 AM EDT reply actions
I like the loser of Marquardt/Maia as an opponent for Cote more than lose of Bisping/Hendo, unless, Bisping loses, then it would make sense. At this point in time, having Hendo fight Cote would be a waste of 5 months of Hendo’s life. I’m not saying that it is a guaranteed win, but what does a win over Cote do for Hendo’s career??? He wants to figth the best of the best at 185 and 205. Unfortunately, Cote does not fit this criteria.
A rematch with Leben would be the best matchup for us fans, because you know the fight would not dissapoint and they The Crippler and The Predator would both be looking for the KO the whole time. I remember Goldy getting his panties all in a wad over their nicknames during that fight. If anything, he should have laughed at Cote’s Hulk hands…

on topic, who cares about Cote?

I do, Cote is one of the better MW’s in the UFC and he has an exciting fighting style which is nice standup!

by McArthur on May 12, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Kev,
You can take me off the maybe list, and unfortunately, I have to be a no. It really saddens me to admit, but I simply can not afford to go to both the event and a cruise (before the jokes start flying in from the people that don’t know, my wife has lupus and therefor can no longer work as a hairdresser, but the state is being a bunch of f*ckers as usual and bs’ing and wasting time before allowing her to collect, so if you still got something to say F YOU!) During the weekend I was about 90% there on convincing my wife (and explained my way of getting the $350 for the ticket super fast and easy… no more details.). THEN, yesterday I find out that my 3 year old dog has an inguinal hernia and requires surgery. I have no idea how much that it will cost me, but I know it ain’t cheap. There are only 2 things that come before MMA in my life – my wife and my dog.
If something changes drastically between now and then, like Kobe and LeBron meet up in the NBA finals and I’m able to flip some tickets really quick, then perhaps I’ll be able to go (but even then its a longshot), so for now count me as a NO, and if I do come thru on flipping tickets, I’ll have to take my chances that a seat or two are still available, but I doubt they will.
Sorry, you don’t even know how dissapointed I am….
Mike

The way I see it, in the eyes of the UFC, Cote earned a title shot. During that title shot, he injured himself. The fight was unfinished. Yes, he got a Loss on the record, but he didn’t really lose, so he should still be seen as a top contender (in Dana’s eyes). I pity the guy, for not knowing what coulda been. Pitting him against Leben is a slap in the face. Yes, it would be entertaining, but Leben should work his way up. I like the Cote-Bisping matchup (after Bisping loses to hendo) or Marquardt-Cote.
by Stryker on May 12, 2009 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions
I would like to see him matched up with Dennis kang, but I dont know if that can happen since Kang is Canadian…not sure if they train together or would be willing to fight each other.
If not, Let cote get SMASHED by sEXYama after he is done disposing of Alan “THe man with a million faces” Belcher!
by john on May 12, 2009 4:10 PM EDT up reply actions
whats with “the man with a million faces”?
and what the hells with all these non-american guys not wanting to fight others from the same country! dammit, its really aggravating. all these brazillian guys in the ufc dont want to fight each other (minus a few). can u imagine if the majority of american fighters were like, “no i wont fight my countryman”. its not like you are betraying your country
by Synyster on May 12, 2009 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions
everytime I see Belcher he looks complete different in the face. I swear he just changes faces every single fight. It freaks me out…thus the man with a million faces.
FOck that! I want to see Cote vs. Goran Reljic!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cote/Almedia > Silva/Leites, you really want to talk about sloppy fights,
by TOXIC on May 12, 2009 11:28 AM EDT reply actions
Cote fight someone at the top?? He is .500 in the UFC. A rematch with Leben would be cool. He is not a bad fighter, but he is not a top fighter either.
by Doubled on May 12, 2009 12:36 PM EDT reply actions
I’d like to see him beat the sh!t out of Bisping after Hendo destroys him.
by ---Caesar--- on May 12, 2009 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions
i think him vs bisping in sept might happen if bisping loses in july
by bryant on May 12, 2009 12:43 PM EDT reply actions
Cote vs Bisping would be an awesome fight. Dosent Marquardt train with GSP so Cote and Marquardt must be training partners. Hendo vs Cote sets up for fireworks someone will hit the canvas for sure. Cote vs Silva wouldnt sell people already seen this fight.
by Cory on May 12, 2009 12:45 PM EDT reply actions
depends which Silva…Cote/Wand would sell and could be a great fight
by McArthur on May 12, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I’d love that fight too.. Cote/Wand would be a great standup fight, but i’m pretty sure that if Cote is back in shape that Wand is getting KO’d..
did anyone notice that Paulo Thiago was being ranked 6th at WW, that is crazy!..
by RoB on May 12, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions
that is crazy…which rankings? The best rankings imo are HDNet shown on Inside MMA with Bas
by McArthur on May 12, 2009 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Wand would not get KO’d by Cote. I just dont see that happening. If it did, I think that’d be one of the greatest upsets in a while. Maybe since Mir-Nog.
by Synyster on May 12, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions
ok, maybe not but do you see Wand taking Cote out?… You can see the WW ranking right in the beginning of this video McArthur
by RoB on May 12, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions
WOW!! Rob, I’ve been swearing by the Inside MMA ranks for more than a year now but there’s no way he’s 6. I think he’s undefeated but a win over KOS shouldn’t put him there. And there’s no way Hughes should be 5. From their ranks I would EASILY put Kamp, Carlos, and KOS still above him and maybe not Hieron. Jeez, i would even rank Swick, Serra, Karo, Hardy, Rumble, and Davis higher than Paulo Thiago….agreed??
by McArthur on May 12, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions
I just checked Thiago’s record and yes he is undefeated…but I don’t recognize a single fighters name he’s beaten…
by McArthur on May 12, 2009 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, I wouldn’t rank him that high. That’d be like ranking Houstan number 6 after his win over Jardine. Or Dos Santos after Werdum. I dunno WHERE they got the idea to put him up there. I agree, ANY of those cats could wipe the floor with PT. Especially Swick, Hardy, Davis and Rubmble. Sherdong even ranks him in the top 10 too i believe.
And the stoppage of the KOS fight was crap, but we wont go there.
RoB- By history and records alone I see Wand taking him out. BUT, Cote may have the better chin. Wand has the intimidation factor going for him. At first look, you gotta go with Wandi, but after you analyze it, I can see it being closer than what most see.
by Synyster on May 12, 2009 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions
their is precedent for this type of ranking. Soko made it up to the top five after he Ko’ed Nog n Arona

almost anything can happen on any given night in this sport and styles make fights so Thiago might lose to someone that Kos beats and what happens then?.. they gotta have some sort of a points system when making these ranks
by RoB on May 12, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions
MMAMania should have it’s own ranking created by us…
by RoB on May 12, 2009 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions
the ranks on MMAPlayground.com are based solely on the members of the site (which is a fuckin lot). every person who has an account can rank fighters by weight divisions and P4P. Check em out. Because of the high number of active users, the nuthuggers who would still put – say Chuck Liddell in top 5 – would be canceled out by everyone else.
by Synyster on May 12, 2009 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions

by RoB on May 12, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions
cote would wipe the floor with wanderlei. someone said that wandy has the intimidation factor going, not so much anymore. plus cote wasnt scared of anderson. i see that fight ending with wandy twitching and cote getting his hand raised.
by Clinton Jackson (formerly Jared) on May 12, 2009 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions
well i do too, Cote punches harder has better chin and is a more technical striker! he just proved that in his fight with Drew Mcfedries (who would probably be tough test for Wand too in the standup)
by RoB on May 12, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Wandi is intimidating no matter what. The only other guy who looks scary in a staredown is Andrei and Rampage.
You do have a point though, Cote is fearless. The guy was not afraid of Anderson at all, and that alone will help in big fights. Hendo would’ve done SO MUCH better vs Anderson had he not been scared ( and DONT DARE try to tell me he wasnt scared in that fight. )
Regardless, it is a fight I wouldn’t mind seeing, but probably not Cote’s first fight back.
by Synyster on May 12, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions
glad to see people with common sense, sure wandy gave us amazing fights and some of the best knockouts ever. but his time is up now. dont be surprised if some small name guys beat him. i dont like this but its mma, now that theres tons of new and more well rounded fighters theyll begin to take the place of our favorites.
by Clinton Jackson (formerly Jared) on May 12, 2009 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Hate to break it to you guys, Bisping is NOT losing to Hendo. I would love to see Cote fight Jason McDonald ( I know he recently got cut ), or maybe throw him in agasint Wandy if Wandy drops down to 185, 2 sluggers going at it, I would def be buying that paper view.
by ItsJustMe on May 12, 2009 12:54 PM EDT reply actions
i like Coté as a fighter but i dont think he can outstrike Wandy. Jason mcdonald – yes would have been nice. Maybe Koscheck or Sanchez?

Cote destroyed McFed. already. You guys should speculate matches that HAVEN’T happened already. Rematches are always good, but most are unnecessary.

Cote vs. Kang
Cote vs. Akiyama “tHE SEX MACHINE”
by john on May 12, 2009 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions
The UFC will not throw Cote a top notch fighter like Hendo, Wanderlei. For his first fight back after knee surgery. They will give him a pretender such as Leben,Bisping, Maia. Maybe new years Cote vs Wanderlei.
by Cory on May 12, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions
How did you compare Maia and Bisping to Chris Leben? They are both on the verge of title shots while Leben is coming off a drugs ban and a convincing defeat to Bisping, he is barely in the top 20 of UFC MWs.
If Cote’s back in Sept, then he should be ready for 103 in England. I agree with you guys, I’d like to see him face Akiyama, Kang or Gouveia, basically anyone who can stop him because I don’t like the guy, his boasting over his fight with Anderson (in which he clearly lost the first 2 rounds before his knee collapsed on him) as well as his boring performances against Smith and Almeida haven’t endeared him to me and I want to see him lose.
by David W-S on May 12, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions
This guy makes me fuckin sick!!!!
I was watching mma connected which is a canadian mma news show and all he was doing was shit talking anderson silva and after anderson destroyed his legs he was saying after the fight that he thought that he “Fucked” Anderson silva up. Gimme a fuckin break.
The most classless fighter ever
by Raditz on May 12, 2009 1:45 PM EDT reply actions
you misunderstood…when he said he fu&ked him up he meant that he fucked his style up which is why Anderson couldn’t get shots off…right or wrong thats what he meant…its a good show though
by McArthur on May 12, 2009 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Cote already fought MacDonald under TKO I believe. Cote won via rear naked choke. If Wandy loses to Franklin, then Cote vs Wandy would be sweet. I really don’t want to see Cote vs Maia; that has all the potential of being just like the Almeida fight.
Wait, now that I think about it. Cote vs Gouveia would be a good fight for both of them. I put the two of them at around the same ranking in the division (low top 10). The winner would be top 5 and maybe 1 fight away from a title shot.

Frank Trigg admits that he became famous after losing to Matt Hughes twice in the same manner.
Cote likes to mention that he lost to Tito Ortiz taking the fight on short notice. Now his new claim to fame is giving Anderson Silva problems and being the first fighter to take Silva to the 3rd round. (And he did feel that he f*cked Silva up.)
Cote vs Okami
by Vee on May 12, 2009 2:31 PM EDT reply actions
Going into the Ortiz fight I didn’t like Cote’s cocky attitude.. After the Scott Smith fight, and making funny faces whilst sticking his tongue out; I was definatley even more critical of him. But after the way his TITLE fight ended in him grabbing his own knee and falling to the canvas, and then afterward having the audacity to say Silva was scared of him; I just plain can’t stand the guy now.
by O damn he got caught on May 12, 2009 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions
I like him, he believes in himself and that’s what you need to do to get anywhere.. his performance against Anderson was still good!
by RoB on May 12, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Bisping has already lost to hendo mentally, back when hendo and rich were going to fight for the spot Dana asked bisping who he wanted to fight. He replyed with a stutter, “Rich Franklin”. That jackass is afraid of Hendo period.
What a hell was going on with Cote in that interview? He looked all coked out or something, with his cowlicked hair!!!
by rockoner on May 12, 2009 3:43 PM EDT reply actions
Who cares? He probably be on the next round of “comeback” TUF like he was on season 4 cause he isn’t beating any body above C level fighters. Grove was tee’ing off on him and Almeida beat him IMO.

If Lietes werent fighting Sakkara, you should have Lietes vs Cote. The last 2 undeserving fighters to fight Anderson Silva for the title. Man i get pissed when i see 2 fights of ANdersons contract wasted on fighters like that. Scratch that, his last 3 fights include Irvin in there. And people get mad at Fedor for not fighting top competition…..
Fedor has destroyed 2 former UFC champs in his last 2 fights, and Anderson silva has had bad performances agasint 2 B level fighters…..and people still argue and say Anderson is the best pound for pound fighter in the world….really???
by Adam on May 12, 2009 6:12 PM EDT reply actions
couldnt agree with you more adam. But its not his fault. Joe silva is to blaim on that one.. but if you think about it.
