UFC fighter Houston Alexander rescues child left in car on May 6

UFC light heavyweight Houston Alexander is used to knocking out opponents inside the Octagon. On Wednesday, May 6, "The Assassin" did his part to help knock out child neglect.

According to WOWT.com, Alexander discovered a child left alone and crying inside an unlocked Chevy Lumina in a parking lot near his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, and stayed with the girl until she was safe.

After searching local businesses for her family, the child's mother was found at a local plasma center giving blood, accompanied by a cousin who was supposedly left in charge of watching the girl.

The police have charged the mother with Misdemeanor Child Neglect and notified Protective Services regarding the incident.

The Nebraskan is currently on the sidelines mending a broken hand that forced him out of his fight against Andre Gusmao at UFC 98 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 23.

Alexander (8-4) was relatively unknown to the masses until he burst onto the scene with two destructive performances inside the Octagon, taking out top contender Keith Jardine in his debut back at UFC 71: "Liddell vs. Jackson" in May 2007 and then crumbling Alessio Sakara at UFC 75: "Champion vs. Champion" less than four months later.

He quickly returned to Earth — practically crash landing with three straight losses to Thiago Silva at UFC 78, James Irvin Fight Night 13 and Eric Schafer at Fight Night 15.

However UFC President Dana White appears to be giving the charismatic father of six at least once more chance to prove he belongs with the top mixed martial arts promotion in the world.

After his actions last Wednesday, it's easy to see why the Zuffa brass would want to keep him around for as long as possible.

The mother then slapped Houston to the ground and finished from the mount with effortless ground n pound.

I kid. I kid.

Good job Houston.

Yeah, I can’t believe when parents do crap like this. I wonder if they cracked a window for her.

by LJ on May 11, 2009 12:11 PM EDT up reply actions

In a plasma center. Nice. Let the kid suffocate while this skank is selling fluids for $20.

The sad thing is she probabaly thought that she was doing a good thing by giving blood and that she’d be viewed as a model citizen. So much for that public image.

As for Houston, I don’t rate him as a fighter but he’s done some remarkable things out of the octagon. This is why he has been given so many chances in the UFC despite some lackluster performances. If he was a more well rounded fighter, Houston would be a massive star in the sport, but unfortunately for him his skills don’t match is marketable personality.

Sounds like she was giving plasma, and not donating blood to the red cross. She probably just had money on her mind.

by LJ on May 11, 2009 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Either that or she’s sellin off the plasma to get her hands on some more drugs.. U gotta be pretty absent minded/not in your right mind to leave a kid in a car by themselves for hours on end. Kids lucky it was Houston that found her and not some sicko.

Christ! Has he saved an old lady from a mugger? Stopped bullets with his bare hands? Did he find Bin Laden? I suppose I have to put a moratorium on how sucky his ground game/how weak his chin is for a while. Fine.

by DSmith on May 11, 2009 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

he can do everything else – donate kidneys, save children from cars everything except string a couple armbars/triangle chokes together..pity!

since im nearly 1st comment….

how many of u are on UFC Fight Club?

by Randy for Couture on May 11, 2009 11:45 AM EDT reply actions

Burn that retarded mother. Why are people still leaving kids in cars? I’m in the fight club but it is useless, I only sign up to get first crack at tickets, why?

by jay on May 11, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions

i used to be a member of the fan club but i only had so i could get tickets faster, worth it in that sense but thats about it i guess.

by ruan-fiy on May 11, 2009 11:49 AM EDT up reply actions

+1. Part of the reason he is so 1 dimensional is because he is a good father and works hard labor to support his kids. There is no doubt Houston is a good person.

by Bill Maher on May 11, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions

A step up from saving baby kittens I’d say. How can you not root for this guy?
He’s not only one of the most exciting fighters out there but he’s saves children too!
I hope he comes back healthy. Good luck sir.

by scissorfight on May 11, 2009 11:47 AM EDT reply actions

cmon this guy has so many kids i reckon it could be a set up to get back in Zuffa’s good books!! hahaha kidding!

Alexander is the man seriously, cant wait to see him back in the octogon

by irishlilpete on May 11, 2009 11:53 AM EDT reply actions

Im in the UFC fight club Randy but haven’t visited since the day I got it. Wasn’t what I thought it was gonna be for $80. I guess I didnt read the site well enough and thought I could watch past fights for free but not the case.

by rydinlow on May 11, 2009 12:04 PM EDT reply actions

Then whats the point of giving them $80.00 ??

by O damn he got caught on May 11, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly, a bit of a scam. I didn’t join and I still had good seats at all the events I’ve gone too.

by RobH86 on May 11, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Have you tried getting tickets at face value for one of the events that sell-out in record time? Without the fight club you won’t see an event in Canada, the U.K. or 100.

by jay on May 11, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah i bought a ticket for ufc 85 lower tier, row b i think and i was happy as larry but i got there i was at the upper end and felt pretty ripped off i paid 200 pound plus for ok seats all the other times have been pretty good infact i’m in the UFC 75 dvd during rampages entrance

by ruan-fiy on May 11, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s the only reason I’m a fight club member. I log in the second I can to get the seats I want- always 2-3 row from the floor. Perfect. You also get to go to the meet & greet and interview sessions before the weigh-ins thereby giving you prime seating for the weigh-ins close enough to get extra autographs from the guys who are just there hanging out like Wand & Page- they’re always there. That made the $80 worth it for me. I have no idea what else the fight club offers quite frankly.

by DSmith on May 11, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

is their not like a bloggers spot or something and u also get a free key ring ha ha lol

by ruan-fiy on May 11, 2009 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

i was just gonna add you guys on the fight club??.. yea its not that great i just got membership twice for when the UFC came to Ireland so i could go to the Q and A.

about tickets tho ->> the past 2 events ive bought like decent enough seats about £70 but when i got there, irelands security was so bad i just walked straight into the £300 seats when the gates opened and i was literally 5 YARDS AWAY from the octagon the whole night, sitting with VIPs and Rich Franklin’s wife haha
but from now on ill buy a nosebleed ticket cheap as i can and who knows maybe il take Danas seat next time – the last event i had long ass convos with him since he was lik 5 seats away from me! :D

yea nothing better than seeing yourself pull a dumn face at one of the entrances when you buy the event you went to see on DVD (UFC 72 and 93)!!

by Randy for Couture on May 11, 2009 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions

randy for couture check out ufc 75 the crazy dude screaming kick his ass when rampage makes his entrance thats me if ur reaction on the dvd is worst than mine then hats off to u haha lol

by ruan-fiy on May 11, 2009 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Wife got the membership for me as a present already paid for. I logged on wasn’t what I expected and never went back. Plus it was only $80 and nothing else in this world to get me for that little of money. It made her happy that it was the first thing in our 13 years she got me that I didnt know about. So as long as it makes her happy to think Im enjoying it that’s all I care about.

by rydinlow on May 11, 2009 12:21 PM EDT reply actions

Well maybe he should become a policeofficer or a fireman then, caus he aint very good at fightin’.

by lolop4345 on May 11, 2009 12:46 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah because he has ammassed a record of 8-4 and went on a bit of a losing skid so now he sucks right? Just curious what does it take to be good by your standards?

by Dragon on May 11, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions

This pretty much guarantees a lifetime contract with Zuffa.

by RichT on May 11, 2009 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

No, actually he is from Ohama, Nebraska, which is small suburban area named after Japanese textile mogul Hountos Ohama. People get that confused all the time. No worries.
