A healed Brandon Wolff doesn't want to get his ass kicked again at UFC 98

Props: Canadian Press
Quoteworthy:
"I got beat up pretty good. He got me good. I made the mistake of staying in a Muay Thai clinch a little too long and I paid the man…. I was more mentally distraught than anything. I was just unhappy about how I got destroyed in my debut. But I healed up good. And I just wanted to get back in there as soon as possible. . . . I was just happy to get a second chance. I didn't think I was going to get one…. It was the first time ever that I've got my ass kicked. It was a good learning experience -- something that's never going to happen again…. It just didn't go as planned…. I'm really fortunate to be fighting again in the UFC. And I feel like I owe myself and everybody else out there a war, an exciting fight. And that's what I've been preparing myself for."
Brandon Wolff talks about his future career inside the Octagon after "sustaining four facial fractures, including a fractured forehead, and a broken nose" in a brutal loss to Ben Saunders in his Octagon debut at UFC: "Fight for the Troops" in Dec. 2008. The Hawaiian is set to battle Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC 98: "Evans vs. Machida" on May 23, vowing to not make the same mistakes twice in his encore performance, which is great news for whoever picks up his hospital tab.

It seems that Strikeforce agreed to nick Diaz vs Roy jones.
After reports surfaced that Dana White had nixed the idea of a fight between Roy Jones Jr and Anderson Silva occuring in the UFC, Strikeforce founder, Scott Coker, agreed to make the fight happen in Strikeforce. Nick Diaz would be fighting Roy Jones Jr.under MMA rules.
“We would absolutely set this fight up. Of course we would have to run it by Showtime for final approval, but I don’t see why we wouldn’t have this fight” -Scott Coker
It now seems that the only hope of seeing one of the legends of boxing stepping into a cage will be through Strikeforce.

Kevin you have been talking about this for months now, and it seems like you have and 3 or 4 openings left for weeks. I hope its not all for nothing…

JRE: It wont be “for nothing”. Worst case scenario, the ones of us who are definitely going, just get good seats in the crowd! Suite is the only seating that we need a certain number of seats to go…..no matter what, you better believe we will be ROCKING my hometown come August 8th!

I’ll give Wolff respect for getting back in the octagon. Shows he’s got plenty of heart. Unfortunately, I saw nothing from him to make me believe he won’t wind up on the wrong end of another beatdown.

This kid took a beating and could have starred as a Cling-On in the new Star Trek flick.
Lotsa heart to come back and fight in the Octagon again. Yoshida might have gotten KO’d by Koscheck in his last fight, but, Yoshida’s no joke.

He suffered a broken Forehead? Damn, I have never even heard of that Injury. that cant feel good.
I woiuld be lying if I sat here and told you guys that I know much about this Wolfe guy….All I know is that he made my boy Saunders look like Anderson Silva! lol….He is probably better then he showed but Yoshida is no JOKE!!!! No shot in hell that Yoshida loses this fight!
Cant wait to get the odds on this one….Yoshida is a freaking lOCK!!!
YOshida/Sherk Parlays……TAKE IT TO THE BANK!!!!

I doubt that the beatdown would have been the same if his opponent hadn’t towered above him the way he did. He was that much taller that he didn’t even need to pull Wolffs’ head down to hit him with those knees. I do not know enough about his skills to say he will win his next match, but I am sure it will be a better performace and probably a true representation of his fighting abilities. His boxing ability, even though he didn’t manage to land many shots, indicated that he does poses some striking ability.

I’ve never even heard of someone having a fractured forehead before. Sounds painful.
by mburtoni on May 7, 2009 5:32 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah I was gonna say that too.
Saunders first ever to fracture a forehead in MMA?
by DirtyML on May 7, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Can’t wait til Saunders puts the same beatdown on mike the prick swick…
by PACO on May 7, 2009 5:36 PM EDT reply actions
Yoshidas gotta win this or hes toast.
And well if wolf wins hes gonna get another chance, unless its lackluster.
Saunders vs swick………. Thats gonna be good.
Saunders is my call.

interesting fight since that both of these guys got their @$$es whooped at the same event.
Zenko go KTFO by Kos on the same night that Saunders hand Wolff a serious beat down.
by the Levi on May 7, 2009 6:53 PM EDT reply actions
Saunders brutalised Wolff so bad it was almost hard to watch, key word almost. He’s only been kept on by the UFC so that he can get another beatdown, once Yoshida wins this one easily he’ll have redeemed himself a little after that brutal KO to Kos.

PREDICTION:
Brandon Wolff comes out hard and strong throwing bombs because he feels like he has to prove something. Ends up in a clinch with Yoshida.
Yoshida judo throws his big head and puts him in a anaconda choke like he did to “Hor Machine”
by skelow on May 7, 2009 9:56 PM EDT reply actions
yoshida will take him down and choke him out in under a minute, so no worries about a beating here.
by battery on May 8, 2009 6:30 AM EDT reply actions
That fight for the troops card was full of beat downs. Kos and swick scored crazy KO’s. I think this card even had the Cory Hill leg snap and that guy got his elbow hyper extended in an arm bar, but wouldn’t tap. That was a crazy card.
