BE is reporting that it looks like the long awaited mega fight between Barnett and Fedor is back on for affliction 3
by john on May 5, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Oh man, I hope so. Affliction may as well blow up the arena with Fedor and Attencio inside it if they match him up with anyone else.

Barnetts a scrappy veteran with good standup but hes gona get knocked out or submitted. Its not to much mystery in that matchup but id still like to see it.lol

Haven’t read thru the whole thread yet, but I saw on ESPN First Take during lunch that Chuck Liddell is close to retirement decision (being reported by SI)

Fedor-Barnett will be an awesome fight, if this Affliction card is as stacked as the last 2 and they pay more feasible wages then I like there chances of lasting longer, especially if they can continue to work with other promotions like Strikeforce and Dream.
On the fight itself, Fedor will win of course and I bet it will be by an early stoppage. Hopefully this will shut up the doubters and naysayers that claim he only fights cans as Barnett is another former UFC HW champion and is better than anyone in the UFC’s HW division.
by David W-S on May 5, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions
The Legacy you missed out calling Barnett one of the best submission Heavyweights in the world, because that is exactly what he is, and he will be the one of the toughest and best all round highly skilled fighters Fedor has ever faced. Fight would have been better if it had happened a few years ago, but am looking forward to it all the same.

John i got a quick question to ask you man.Just to make sure im not alone on this.Say u were 190 ibs b4 starting ur cut to 155.Wouldnt that affect ur all around phsyical strength if its u 1st time.
by The Legacy on May 5, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Legacy: i havent had to cut weight yet, but I will have to in the future and I DO expect it to affect me the 1st couple times. My suggestion wuold be to do a TRAIL weight cut 1st…THats what I plan on doing now that I am sidelined from training with an injury to my face.
David S: I agree with your entire post, but as the biggest Fedor cocksucker on Earth, I will tell you right now, that Fedor can Ko King Kong, and these TROLLS will still Hate on him! Its really sad, but a reality I have learned to deal with!

I ain’t John but man, you should know the answer to your question, unless you’ve been livin’ under a rock this past decade and haven’t noticed that all fighters who make a significant cut in weight the first time around would definitely be gaunt and exhausted due to all the lost bodily fluids.

First of all let me be a wise a$$ 4 you.I was talking to John so anyone elses input definantly wasnt needed at the time.Im not a frickin meat head wrestler so im not sure how much dropping that much weight affects your overall “physical strength”.Thats what i was refering to,common sense would tell any1 that losing that much water would drain you in sometype of a way i was just curious of “how much” it effects your over all physical strength thats it.We all learn something new everyday mma Einsteins.Im pretty sure i school you girls on a few things also:)lol.I was rushing also,so i couldnt detail my post like i wanted 2.

by McArthur on May 5, 2009 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, the Anderson fight was lame. From my expierences in Vegas, UFC events are the best sporting event to attend.
The fact that I dispise Rashad will have me rooting for Machida. I think they are both really finding their stride right now. Rashad has KO power, but was getting beat by Chuck and Forrest until he ended the fight. He will not be able to time Machida and should get owned in the stand up until Machida TKO’s him or wins a UD. Based off of my analysis I would assume you like Rashad? :)
by BNF on May 5, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions
BNF: word for word, that is exactly how I see the fight playing out!
by john on May 5, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Don’t be foolish boys. Rashad may have lost those rounds but they were awful close and some judges gave those rounds to Rashad if you look back. Rashad has 5 rounds to get Machida’s timing down and I really don’t think it will take all that long to get it. Machida hasn’t fought anyone with the ability to work angles and is light on their feet like Rashad. Soko, Tito, and even Thiago were faily immobile and that made for an easier target. None of them have decent head movement either.
by Buster Bluth on May 5, 2009 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions
On another note…I’ve never been a fan of Diego at all. I’ve never cared much for his attitude but he actually was very respectful on Inside MMA. I watched the whole episode and I came to like him a little. Then he said that Rashad was going to beat Machida down and that Rashad is one of the P4P best there is and that he’s an incredible fighter…now I’m Diego fan.

Funny how Guida is exciting most of his career and has two boring, albeit winning perfomances… and is vilified universally on these boards.
Anderson Silva is exciting his whole career, has two boring, albeit winning performances… and people line up to make excuses for him.
The interesting thing is that Guida is fighting the only way he can to win against more well-rounded fighters… while Silva could easily destroy his opponents in an exciting fashion but is instead INTENTIONALLY boring.
Quite the double standard.
by Jeremyjackson on May 5, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions
You no something i dont have nothing against Guida nd i think ur rite about him using his tools to win fights against the more well rounded guys. But i think if Guidas gona be a 1 trick pony than he needs to be a little better at it by adding some descent ground n pound and submissions in his arsenal. It just seems like now that the competitions getting stiffer hes becoming even more 1 dimensional. With just wrestling,no strikes,no subs, just basically wrestling.Thats a lil boring if ur not dumping guys on there head throughout the whole match up.seriously
by The Legacy on May 5, 2009 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m one of Anderson’s biggest defenders and at the front of the anti-Guida brigade but I have my reasons. That prat of a judge gave Silva only 48-47 against Leites, which was one of the dumbest scores I’ve ever heard, but Ando never once complained but when Nate Diaz deservedly won the fight according to one of the judges, Guida whined about it being an SD instead of a UD after not doing enough to win in my opinion and he even had the cheek to blame his horrible hair for not getting the nod in every round.
He also called Bisping the worst ever TUF winner after beating Danzig in another boring performance, after having no prior history with the Count and not even being in the same weight class. Have you ever heard Ando insult any fighters in a similar way?
The guy is an arse out of the octagon and to me his boring and in the latter case undeserved wins make me hate the guy even more.
by David W-S on May 5, 2009 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Oh, I agree. It’s boring as hell.
My point was the inconsistency fans exhibit when they condemn one fighter and excuse another in very comparable circumstances… and I think Guida could make the case that in his situation, there is at least a benefit to being boring: he won’t win a barnburner against elite lightweights.
Just throwing it out there.
by Jeremyjackson on May 5, 2009 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Did you see how bad theyve been bashing Anderson lately.lol.It almost brought a tear to my eye.I couldnt imagine how he feels. At least Dana doesnt pull any punches on lack luster performances.lol

I just want to see someone manhandle Guida like never before and just scare him, knock him out.. so next time he won’t come in like a retard!..
The judge that scored A.Silva/Leites 48-47 should have been fired on the spot, he was so close to giving the contender the win for doing absolutely nothing!.. It should have been 49-46 or 50-45 cause even when Thales took Anderson down it was Andy who controlled the ground action from the bottom so i thought it was going to be a 50-45…
by RoB on May 5, 2009 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions
I really like Guida’s work ethic and the whole “blue collar” thing, but I also agree that he relys on his wrestling too heavy. He wins fights, but they are slowly becoming one dimensional.
Diego, is on fire right now, so Guida better be ready.
by Jrandolph on May 5, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Guida has no way to win this fight. He wins by: 1. pushing a relentless pace and breaking opponents. Diego does the same thing. You cannot tire Diego Sanchez out. And 2. Wrestling/humping for 15 minutes. Diego is every bit as good a wrestler, maybe even better than Huggie Bear, so Huggie will get maybe 1 or 2 takedowns in the entire fight, and he’ll be lucky to get those. Diego also has excellent jits, so even if he ends up on the bottom it won’t bother him. Diego is going to press forward, beat Guida up on the feet, but him on his back and pound him out for the TKO.
by PW on May 5, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions
PW: I couldnt have said it better myself!
Diego’s jits is so damn good that even guys like Kos were petrified of taking him down. If you guys remember, Kos only would take him down the last 15 seconds of every round, and Diego would still be close to sweeping him or subbing him.
Diego is better then Guida in every single aspect of mma! I dont see any possible scenario that Guida could win!
by john on May 5, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Diego is going to destroy Guida, this is an even bigger lock than Pacman-Hatton. Anything Clay can do, Diego can do a lot better. And anything Clay can’t do, Diego can do well at to. After the shocking judging decision in his last fight, Huggy Bear is going to learn the hard way that he’d going to have to change his style in order to beat top LWs.
by David W-S on May 5, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree that Diego will beat Guida.
But David, Huggy’s current style is the ONLY way he beats top lightweights. What else does he do, outstrike them? Submit them?
That’s why Joe Silva matched him up with Diego… as you guys have pointed out, Diego is one of the few guys that Huggy’s style will be ineffective against.
by Jeremyjackson on May 5, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions
it takes two guys to make a fight boring. i don’t like guida’s style but if his opponent can’t nullify it than his opponent needs to shoulder some of the blame as well.
by JB on May 5, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Ei David W-S, I’m sure you watched the Pacman-Hitman fight. So, can you say Pacman’s gonna smoke Mayweather? but there are a lot of other fighters lining up against the Pacman like Sugar Shane Mosley and Cotto. But I would like to see the Pacman-Pretty Boy fight because only in our lifetimes could we get to witness 2 top pound-for-pound get at it. If you would call the Penn-GSP fight a superfight, then Mayweather-Pacquiao is an ULTRA fight!
by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on May 5, 2009 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions
I hear you on that Syd.But unless Mayweather has been healing his past injuries from his past fights, that match up maybe a little lump sided.Floyd had previous problems with his hand which will effect his punching power and a lot of cartiladge tears and stuff. He talked about it on the little mini Mayweather vs Hatton series.I think Floyd still takes it though even at 70 percent.lol.ITS MONEY MAYWEATHER BABE!!
by The Legacy on May 5, 2009 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, I think ring rust is gonna be a factor for Pretty Boy so sorry for him, Pacman takes on all takers! Where’s Tyson at?!? LMAO!
by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on May 5, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions
lol.Exactly,Nate or Huerta really arent as good of wrestlers as Diego.Nd theyre no where near as large or even strong i believe.Guida couldnt get Griffin to the ground with just a straight takedown, only thru the exchanges and scrambles.I think Diegos just as good of a wrestler as Tyson with a way better pace and scrample game.If they lock up this is gonna play a big part in the wrestling category.Plus Guidas gona find it very hard to get on the inside of Diegos right hand.lol.Believe me.
by The Legacy on May 5, 2009 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions
I haven’t got a shred of doubt that Diego will beat Clay…Sanchez WILL make some noise at LW. Hell, I thought he still could have made some noise at WW and give St. Pierre a good fight – although St. Pierre would have prolly beat him by UD.
by jayshogun on May 5, 2009 11:10 AM EDT reply actions
Listening to Sanchez hurts. I think the guy is slightly retarded. GSP would have stomped him.
by Tony C on May 5, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions
GSP would have knocked him out. don’t be silly, thats why he dropped down.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on May 5, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions
No, he dropped down cos it made sense. The only reason he lost to Fitch was because of Fitch’s ridiculous size advantage and even then, the fight was a split decision win for Fitch. I personally thoght Diego won due to his repeated sub attempts, which more than countered Fitch’s takedowns. Who has St. Pierre knocked out for u to think he has a chance of knocking out Diego – name one fight where Diego has even been rocked let alone KO’d? St. Pierre would beat Diego bu UD with his wrestling, NOT his striking. If it wasn’t St. Pierre at the top of the WW division, I really believe Diego would be champ. At LW, he needs 3-4 impressive showings before he is ready for Penn I think.
by jayshogun on May 5, 2009 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions
O and sherk by tko matt hughes by head kick, GSP has sick standup, he could ko sanchez.
by Dragon on May 5, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions
no he couldn’t… TKO if anything but that would be incredible too
by RoB on May 5, 2009 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Lol yeah right, I don’t know why everyone thinks Diego is so amazing. I was exagerating when I said GSP would KO Diego but he would easily finish Diego. Diego’s only chance would be UD but thats a joke to, he’s never had a five round fight let alone with someone as skilled as GSP or Penn. Diego isn’t even going to be able to get past Florian or Sherk lol. Diego was smart to get out of the WW division while he was still on top. Thats the only reason he’s regarded as highly as he is in the LW division. Also how is Fitch being bigger than Diego an excuse? Thiago and GSP would put a serious hurting on Diego no doubt in my mind. Lol thanks Dragon for the examples.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on May 5, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions
easily finish Diego or not.. He couldn’t finish Fitch or Koscheck why would he finish Diego, how and why?.. Fitch being bigger than Diego is not an excuse, it’s just the only reason Fitch won (which he didn’t imo)..
by RoB on May 5, 2009 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions
He wrestled Kos and Fitch took a beating like nobodies business. I don’t think Diego would have the heart to hang in there with GSP. Diego is a decent well rounded fighter but anything he can do GSP can do better. Maybe he’d have a Fitch outcome but I know Diego would not look pretty at the end. I think it is much less likely that Diego survives five rounds with GSP than GSP finishing Diego.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on May 5, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t think Diego could beat GSP, but I also agree that he would not finish or KO Diego. Diego is an animal with a cast iron jaw. I defy anyone to name a fight where Diego has been rocked…..it’s never happened. Diego has the cardio to go five. As far as the weight disadvantage with Fitch, it makes a huge difference. Diego scrambles as good as anyone, and Fitch’s size was likely the difference that kept him from getting submitted. Diego is a bad ass. I won’t say that he’d beat GSP or Alves, but I guarantee he’d make it interesting, and he wouldn’t get knocked out. Now that he’s a LW, he can enjoy the size advantage that he gave up at WW. I think Sherk and Kenflo present a bigger challenge than BJ. Especially if it’s a 5 round fight….Diego will wear BJ out, and that’s a fact because we’ve seen it before.
by kg on May 5, 2009 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions
If it would be so easy for diego to beat georges then why did he drop down like a little bitch? No way he makes it out of 2 rounds with gsp, no way. The only reason gsp did’nt finish fitch is because that dude is tough as nails, you can’t take anything away from st. pierre just beacuse jon fitch is a tough mother fucker. Plus he hit fitch with about 6 or 7 shots that would have flat lined mose WW’s.
by Dragpn on May 5, 2009 2:34 PM EDT up reply actions
ok ok.. maybe a ref stoppage, but i promise you that Diego would never ever quit, he has the heart the chin and the will to go all 5 rounds…
Fitch took a beating because all he has is wrestling and GSP was better than him at that..
by RoB on May 5, 2009 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t know I think gsp would have been able to ko him, not saying he would, but it’s a definite possibility. It was a smart move to get out that weight class though, If I was a WW or a MW I would get the f away from gsp and a. silva those guys are hanging around for a long time. And don’t even start with the Thiago crap that guy has a punchers chance and that’s it.
by Dragon on May 5, 2009 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Sorry I didn’t mean it like Diego would throw in the towel. I’m actually a Diego fan but I rank him below GSP and Thiago but I think he could actually beat most of the other WW’s out there. I also don’t think he would be able to beat Penn, Sherk, or Florian. Diego is well rounded and does have a pretty solid chin with a great GnP. He’ll be top 10 in either division but I don’t think he has the skill set to take the title and maintain it. But then again Diego hasn’t peaked his skill so in a year or two I could be eating my own words. I’m still looking for him to waste Huggy bear and then maybe get a fight against Sherk. If he beats Sherk then I think that would flip my whole opinion on Diego. I’d love him to prove me wrong cause he’s an exciting fighter to watch. great arguements tho Rob
by Cogito Ergo Sum on May 5, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree, one fight at a time. All Diego needs to worry about is destroying Huggie Bear. Everything else will work itself out in time. As i said earlier, let me make it clear that i don’t think Diego could beat GSP. However, i also don’t think he’d get knocked out either. Yes, Fitch hung all 5 with GSP, and Diego is just as tough as Fitch. Diego has the never say die attitude, and i think he has the ability to will himself to not get knocked out. BJ, Kenflo and Sherk will all present problems for Diego, but this kid is constantly evolving so i wouldn’t put anybody above him with the exception of GSP.
by kg on May 5, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions
I can’t wait for Diego to destroy Huggy Bear, I’m sick of that filthy caveman lookalike talking shite then putting on boring performances. Since his comments about Bisping I’ve hated him and his fat talentless brother. I’m still angry that Guida got the decision over Diaz and if that wasn’t bad enough he actually bitched that it wasn’t unanimous.
Diego may be weird but he’s a lot more talented and exciting to watch than Huggy Bear and he should destroy him standing as well as submit him if it goes to the ground. Depending on how easily Diego and Sherk win their next fights, I’d like to see BJ/Kenny-Diego and Sherk/Gray or Diego/Sherk for a title shot.

Exactly. The only 2 people i really think might give Diego a bit of a challenge is Florian and Sherk. But i believe BJ is the ultimate test for him.If BJ and Diego ever fight,Bj might actually take his cardio serius for 1nce to give a great 5 round war.BJ has great power but even with his signature uppercut and his good boxing i really didnt see him hurt Jens Pulver at all on the feet.I think Diego has a similar chin or even better. If Penn doesnt come in the best shape of his life to fight Diego he will lose brutaly and more than likely get finished.

Actually gsp has 0 ko’s on his record but 8 tko’s, and the spider hasn’t really knocked anyone out cold since he’s been to the UFC, meaning “OUT COLD” like lying unconcious for a few minutes. Both guys obviously have the ability to do it but just haven’t yet, plenty of nobodies have KO’s on there record. Sanchez hasn’t looked so good against stevenson IMO but I hope he takes huggy bear out, don’t like his style, and his annoying hair, wish he would lose a few in a row and get cut from the UFC.
by nathan on May 5, 2009 11:55 AM EDT reply actions
To be honest i think the reason Diego probably couldnt put on the expected extremely dominating Lw debut performance against Stevenson was becuz that was actually his first time dropping down to LW after walking around at 190Ibs.I dont think he could of did the cut any better but he loss a significant amount of muscle in the drop and i believe that it might have sapped his physical strength a little bit.Nd think this time his body will be more adapted to the cut just like Florian was his secnd time around and he’ll be just as strong as he was at WW if not a little stronger.I loved his performance against Stevenson becuz it was still dominating regardless,he out classed him in all aspects and made it look pretty easy.He also displayed great stand up,i think in this fight Diego will be alot more comfortable and we’ll see a New Juggernaut without a doubt.

Huerta decided to go to Hollywood to make some movies, DW didn’t like this decision so he put Huerta’s contract in the freezer, and because of this we won’t see “el matador” fighting for long long time if he ever decides to come back. shame

I know a lot of fans are down on Huggy these days after a few less than impressive outings, but I get the feeling he may just pull off an upset. Sanchez tends to struggle against opponents who establish their gameplans early (i.e. Koz) and who dictate the pace of the fight (i.e. Fitch). Like him or not, Huggy bear is a cardio machine and always sets a breakneck pace. Sanchez is still new to LW and hasn’t fully adapted to the weight cut. If Huggy sets the tempo, and controls the clinch, I think he ecks out another split decision. On the flip side, should he choose to exchange with the Nightmare, he will find himself on the wrong end of a TKO…

The thing with the Fitch fight tho is that the gameplan was for him to use his size advantage against diego and grind out a decision, which he did.Guida is not as big or powerful a wrestler as Fitch and Diego was anticipating it going to the ground and submitting him with his new found jiu-jitsu skills. But it didnt work out that way and he wound up letting the clock go by coming short on points in a split decision alot of people think he might have one.Kos doesnt even count he was out of it becuz of the staff infection it effects your blood and overall energy and he stand up is 10xs better than it was in the Kos fight.Guidas in trouble.

I agree The nightmare should be able to take this 1 with his wrestling but if he decides to slug it out anything can happen.

not sure why diego is hailed as the second coming in the lw division. let’s be honest; he won but was underwhelming against joe daddy.

That’s a bit harsh. Joe is not an elite 155er but he is a tough out for most of the regular 155ers. Not to mention the fact that this was Diego’s 1st test at 155. Joe is far from being a can.

Diego bro, it is “immerse yourself” not “submerge yourself”. Tighten up the interview game before the big ones on the big networks!

Diego would do the same thing to Guillard that Stevenson did…..survive the initial 60 second onslaught, and tap his ass out with 2-3 minutes left in the first round…..

If Diego wins against Guida, itll probably be by decision….If Diegos evolving, who’s to say Guida isn’t; especially after fighting many tough battles and knowing hes up against a former top WW. Both Diego and Guida have stronger chins than many fighters, but they shouldnt get too overconfident cause Anyone in MMA can get knocked down or knocked out, given the right shot. My bet would be on a diego decision over Guida. As for Diegos future in LW division, he must have a alternate strategy when facing Florian. He should NOT strike with Florian. If he faces Sherk, he must work on avoiding takedowns, cause Sherk is a strong wrestler just like Fitch who may keep him pinned down for an entire fight. Am not gonna even mention Penn yet. Only after he proves himself against Florian and Sherk, can we only guess his next strategy. Either way, i hope he has a good future in MMA, cause he is a great fighter.
