Yep, its kinda bland without him; he pretty much carried those two for the most part. PR wise anyway..

seriously, someone remind me what these guys did for the sport? I have no clue. They look like douches.

by Stryker on May 1, 2009 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

basically, they provided fighters with sponsorships so they could afford to train professionally for their fights, at a time when mma wasn’t big, and there weren’t a lot of sponsors. They definatley helped take this sport to the next level, cause the early UFC’s were a bunch of guys that came in to fight, then probably went back to work on monday, they really weren’t professional fighters.

thanks for the explanation. i thought they just sold shirts…but they still look like douches :)

I can’t believe Hollywood removed Wolverine’s Canadian heritage and made him an American for this flick. Not that I give a crap about this movie, but when I was a kid I loved Wolverine, and the fact that he was the only bad-ass Canadian comic book hero.

I guess a Canadian super-hero can’t be awesome anymore or sell tickets.

Friggin’ D-bags.

Funny,i didin’t know that wolverine originate from Canada.I always believed that he was from Alaska.Though,i’m not sure that i would like him more knowing this before? My favorite was Thor….i know lame, but you know, when your kid,you always want to be the strongest.

by Alpha Male 360 on May 1, 2009 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The movie had wolverine as canadian…calm down jj

by kevin on May 1, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It has him as an American who worked as a logger in Canada for a while. If you read the comic book you would see that they completely changed his history.

“According to the comic books, Wolverine was born in Canada in the 19th century. He spent some time in a mining colony in Alberta, he lived with the Blackfoot tribe (where he met the love of his life, Silverfox), he fought in the first and second world war with the Canadian military, he worked for Canadian intelligence, and a secret Canadian military department fused the metal adamantium to his skeleton to make him indestructable.

The point is, Wolverine’s comic book origins place him as a Canadian who spent most of his life in Canada. In fact, the American creators of Wolverine once considered getting rid of the character but were persuaded to keep developing him by the lobbying of a Canadian artist working for marvel (John Byrne). John Byrne stated that as a Canadian, he did not want to see a powerful Canadian superhero be dropped and subsequently he pushed hard to keep the character alive.

Unfortunately, Hollywood has decided to scrap Wolverine’s Canadian heritage for an American one. His history now includes fighting in the American civil war, fighting in the Vietnam war, and being a product of the CIA. As for Canadian content, he escapes to Canada and becomes a logger to avoid US government operatives."

Wolverine?? Who gives a crap!!! Hell I keep reading about him and forgot what MMA story was about. Oh Ya, Mask. Mask should be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

by iagoof22 on May 1, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If u say so JJ, beginning of the movie had him as a kid in canada in the 19th century. have you seen the movie?

by kevin on May 1, 2009 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Goof, I hardly think it is our fault that you have the attention span of an ADHD-afflicted gopher.

And kev, that blurb is from a website I was perusing… if it is inaccurate and the movie does portray Wolverine as a Canadian national, then my bad.

by Jeremyjackson on May 1, 2009 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he says in the movie “I’m Canadian” and the movie starts off in the 19th century in canada and he’s a sick kid…I’d say he’s canadian!
it’s ok JJ, you sound like a big fan!

by kevin on May 1, 2009 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good one JJ. I am sorry I don’t like cartoons. I am over the age of 20. I work, drink and enjoy sports. This is about a man that ment something to this SPORT and a great TV show missing the bigest piece. If you want to talk fiction tv. go to nickelodeon.com.

by iagoof22 on May 1, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol, You had me until you said it was a “great” tv show! I’m over 30, nat geo, gangland, heroes and prison break are all good tv shows. go back to drinking and watching flavor of love igoof!
It’s not a cartoon douche, its a movie!

by iagoof22 on May 1, 2009 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Haha Goofy, thanks for the bio. I didn’t realize that our conversation “ment” (lol) so much to you. If you’re over 20 you should try getting out of your mom’s house on a Friday night. For old-timers like Kev and I, this is all we have!

by Jeremyjackson on May 1, 2009 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

JJ, I am a old man that works a pays the morgage and bills. I left the basemant 25 yrs ago. I don’t get out much with a 16 year old daughter. I have been part of this site for years and I like reading comments from Kevin, John, Stinky, and yourself. But you four are the first to tell someone not to disrespect fighters. Mask is very inportant to MMA.

by iagoof22 on May 1, 2009 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kevin, I enjoy your post, You really tell me alot. No joke. But I am tired of people telling me I am new or I don’t know what I am talking about. I remember UFC 1. I have been a fan from day 1. And I wrestled in the Olympics. So I may know more than so of you guys that make me out to be a idiot.

by iagoof22 on May 1, 2009 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

by Alpha Male 360 on May 1, 2009 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve long had a similiar wrestling goal, and I’m training hard for it.

I’m shooting for the 2012 Special Olympics, 300kg weight class.

by Stryker on May 1, 2009 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I got one for christmas a few years ago, every now and again when it’s cold, I wear it to bed. I won 2k this week in 2 poker tourneys and was looking for a synister shirt at mmawharehouse, I couldn’t believe an affliction t-shirt was 90 bucks. who buys a t shirt for 90? I’ll go to old navy and by 20 shirts and still have enough left over for a coffee!

by kevin on May 1, 2009 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah it sucked , ive been fighting for like 2 years and every Xmas my mom/sister think they are doing me a favor buying me tapout shirts…if i was sponsored by them, that would be a different story

by robbyc on May 1, 2009 12:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

kevin, when I read the first few words of the post after stryker’s tapout tatoo post, i thought you were about to say you got a tapout tatoo for christmas. it was just a split second, but you can imagine the flamingness I was thinking. but I totally agree about the 90 for a shirt thing. waste of money.
