MMA Quick Quote: Fedor Emelianenko was ready to show himself to the Japanese fans

Of course I want to fight in a real fight, especially in Japan. We are now in the process of negotiations with Dream and other companies, other organizations, but we have not reached any concrete decision yet. Regarding this exhibition match (with Shinya Aoki), I was ready to show myself to the Japanese fans -- I think we've missed each other a lot. Of course, I wanted to show my technique to the Japanese fans, who are always supporting me ... MMA is everything for me -- everything in my life. It's a way I can represent my country. It's a way I can please the fans that support me, and this is something that I can do best. So this is all. My life.

The last man to hold the Pride FC heavyweight title and current WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko (29-1) reveals to Sherdog.com that he is currently negotiating a deal with Japanese organizations to eventually return to the country that made him an MMA superstar. "The Last Emperor" was on hand at M-1 Global Challenge on Wednesday to participate in an exhibition grappling match with Shinya Aoki while a deal for his next fight continues to simmer. The only question is -- will it be for Affliction? Or DREAM?

Still don’t know why he wouldn’t even fight one fight in the ufc.. but doesn’t seem like it’s gonna happen. i don’t even care cause the ufc is so stacked with great fighter we love to hate every PPV is a stacked card.

I don’t like the way Fedor seems to be dodging the UFC…where the best competition is. I don’t think he can be considered for the p4p crown simply because he doesn’t regularly fight the best.

dude in his last fight he Knocked Arlovski out of mma and sent him running to those pillow boxing gloves. arlovski, I bet could beat both UFC champs Brock and Mir…so stop drinking the dana white cool aid, and BOW DOWN!!!!!!

by john on Apr 30, 2009 5:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He could undoubtedly beat them both standing up… and he could undoubtedly lose to both of them on the ground.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 30, 2009 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mir cant take Arlovski down. NO CHANCE IN HELL!!! HIs sprawl is legendary and was holding up against Fedor’s takedowns…brock could very well take him down, but Arlovski could leg lock him…and if Brock decided to test out his new stand up, he would get knocked back into the WWE!!!! Keep in mind, I like Brock, but Andre is NO JOKE!!!

by john on Apr 30, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mir would have a tough time AA down, you’re right. But if he got him there, he would outclass him and submit him.

You don’t have to sing Andre’s praises to me. I have long thought he is perhaps the best technical boxer in MMA, and he was schooling Fedor standing up until he got dumb.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 30, 2009 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know JJ…It just pisses me off that everyone sucks Andre’s nuts, but when you bring up Fedor…all of the sudden, beating Arlovski doesnt mean anything…Im not saying you, but so many people on this site are like that!

I don’t think Fedor wants to challenge himself anymore. His gut looks bigger every fight. He should DEMAND that his last Affliction bout be against Barnett… who the hell else is he going to fight in their stables?

What was that I read in the Forrest interview about Anderson calling out Fedor? Where can I read that?

by BNF on Apr 30, 2009 1:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Last thing I saw (which was just before the Leites fight in his gym) was Anderson saying he would not be able to compete with Fedor dut to his size / weight and wanted to see other people close to him fight fight him and suggested maybe another rematch with Noguiera. Fedor would crush Anderson.

by Ca$z on Apr 30, 2009 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

White said that Silva also expressed an interest in fighting heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, who is under contract with Affliction. White has made several attempts to sign Emelianenko, none successful.

Soares confirmed that Silva would like a fight with Emelianenko and said that size wouldn’t be an issue. Silva walks around between fights at 215 and Emelianenko fights around 230.

"We’d come in at about 220 if we ever got that fight," Soares said. "Anderson thinks that would be a great fight for him. He didn’t say he expected to blow him out, but he thinks he can give him a very good fight."

But long before he considers fighting Emelianenko, he has to worry about a match with Griffin.

Again with this fedor BIZ!!!

Gaawwwwd cant they just sign him in the ufc. Whats the deal with dana anyway. Omgaaawwwd just give him a freakin contract and bring few of his fighters in there.

I want to see him fight Gaberiel gonzaga or Brock lesnar specaily lesnar i was a HUGE wwe fan 7 years ago when brock got in it and its interesting to see myself evolve from wrestling fan to an mma fan and likewise in brocks prespective.

Anyway respect to fedor for beating Andrew arvlosiki and Tom sylvia even though dana prolly sent them to assasinate fedors hype using boxing.

But cant hate boxing bro cause i train that shit and judo is the shit bro. War sambo War judo War fedor

Fedor, do yourself and all MMA fans a favor and fire your management team. They are steering your career into the gutter. Unless something changes you will simply be remembered as the best fighter to never compete on the biggest stage in the biggest market for MMA.

by Drake_Labatt on Apr 30, 2009 3:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

WAAAAH.

Get off Dana’s nuts girls.

Carrer into the gutter…….funny stuff. What would put his career into the gutter would be to stop fighting top 5 HWs and go to the UFC and fight WWE wrestlers and guys he has already beaten, just to satisfy a bunch of TUF Noobs like you.

by introvert on Apr 30, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

At this date, Fedor doesn’t need to sign with the UFC. There isn’t a heavyweight in any organization that can touch his record or his legacy in MMA. He could stop fighting today and he will still be better than ______ (insert any HW fighter here).

There are plenty of great films made outside of the Hollywood studio system and for far less money. The UFC is the be all, end all for many up and coming fighters, but apparently fighters like Nick Diaz, Frank Trigg, Jason Miller, Manhoef and many others are doing fine. Scott Smith was cut by the UFC and is probably making way more money and putting on exciting fights.

Lastly, Mr. Captain America thinks there are many issues with being signed to the UFC, he just decided to simply stop fighting in the courtrooms.

Do you remember how much money Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arvolski made in their losing efforts against Fedor?

by Vee on Apr 30, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you realize that those high salaries are what lured those fighters to an upstart promotion, and that those very salaries are what will put Affliction out of business? Do you realize that the casual MMA fan still has no idea that Affliction exists?

I’m all for other orgs promoting fights, but the Affliction business model has failed miserably.

HOW DO YOU WRITE IN BOLD Vee????BTW nice scratch!

by Alpha Male 360 on Apr 30, 2009 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor can do whatever he wants.

He does not have to satisfy a bunch of fairweather fans because he is not with the UFC.

Regardless of his Q rating with the casual fan…

by OJR on Apr 30, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

@OJR, at this point in his career . . . yup, that is basically it.

@Jeremyjackson
While you do have a very valid point, Strikeforce may prove to be a very viable MMA organization, especially if they grow with Showtime on cable.

The key point here is that Fedor will be fine because there are organizations throughout the world that will be a bit more agreeable than a UFC contract. Japan loves Fedor, Fedor loves Japan.

@Alpha Male 360, use regular html open and close tags.

by VEe on Apr 30, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

drop this whole fairwether/casual fan crap, not only is it a contradiction in terms but if anything the real fairweather fans are in Japan. They like watching the freakshows and Sapp is a superstar to them. Fedor will go back to Japan for easy fights and inflated pay, he lives on his own terms and those terms are – protect his record and rake in the cash from suckers who think hes the best. Duuuuuuh

fedor should just sign with DREAM, since they also co-promote with other u.s. organization.

this has nothing to do with what were discussing but i hope andre arlovski does not retire from mma and go to boxing… there’s still fights that WE the fans still wanna see, i personally want to see ARLOVSKI vs. OVEREEM! broskiii

What lawsuit are they talking about????

by UFC Champ on Apr 30, 2009 3:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Dream is becoming a joke. They had some great events through 5 but it is clear they can’t get viewership and are desperate to get a main event. Fedor and Aoki was somewhat fun but in no way “real competition”. Any legit heavyweight could power outta those sub attempts. Look at the latest freak show tournament they put together. What a joke. They need to stick to the smaller weight classes and not heavily favor fighters to make them look good. It might entertain the Japanese but it looks disrespectful to the sport to everyone else.

by Japan MMA=Fun Time Circus on Apr 30, 2009 4:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Besides the money I agree with what Vee said. Fedor does not need the UFC to be considered the best HW ever to fight in MMA, only thing people can have a legitimate argument about would be his P4P status because he hasn’t fought in the UFC. He already stated he doesn’t care where people rank him so I’m certain Fedor will never be in the UFC. I’m guessing he will end up in Dream

by rydinlow on Apr 30, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

well if strikeforce could pony up the dough we might still get him back in the USA; one can only hope.
