UFC 101 announced for Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on August 8

We passed along the good news more than a month ago that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) had designs on staging its first-ever event in Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 8, 2009. Today, the promotion made those plans official, announcing that it would storm the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia with UFC 101.
And fans in the "City of Brotherly Love" have to be pleased with the pay-per-view (PPV)-worthy show that is expected to roll into town in little more than three months.
It's now confirmed that lightweight champion BJ Penn will put his 155-pound title on the line against number one contender Kenny Florian in the main event of the evening. UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will also be in action, stepping up once again to compete at light heavyweight against former 205-pound champion, Forrest Griffin, in a three-round, non-title special attraction.

UFC 101 tickets are not yet on sale, but the promotion promises to release that information shortly. Therefore, if you're interested in attending it would be wise to check in with us early and often to ensure that you don't miss the boat -- tickets will more than likely move lightning fast.

I live on the otherside of the pond unfortunately. Suppose I could still go to the one in Germany if it’s not sold out but I wasn’t planning on it. I’ll probably wait until it comes back to London or I might wait until they come back to Dublin. Hoping for a Paddy’s Day return in 2010. Fingers crossed.

we got 5 seats or so left in our suite. 400-500 (estimate) includes food/beverage. I talked to the sales rep at wachovia today. I left a deposit so we are first on list and have first choice of available suites. He told me the UFC is difficult to deal with and from what he’s heard it was a terrible negotiation getting this event booked!

Dana may be hated for his tactics and such but knows what he’s doing here. It’s the only way Anderson can salvage his reputation(marketability). Forrest is gunna bring it to him and I just hope for a 2-3 round stop from either one. I’ll be rooting for Rorrest to just look good cus I think he gets knocked out.

I have season tix for the FLYERS (who were so unjustly bumped out by the penguins a few days ago) and I can tell you that the Wachovia is an amazing place to see any kind of event. I’ve been to tons there. The boxes and suites are amazing and there isnt a bad seat in the house. i can see the wach from my house, i fucking love this!!!!

Hopefully the Phils will move their game up to 1:35 or 3:55 so it can be the best saturday fuckin ever. No kevin your not nuts.. but it will be a mad rush to get those five seats. first event in Philly doubt ppl are just gonna go themselves. Im already down with like 6 buddies and the wicked witch. You have a smart idea let us know how it turns out. we will still have to make a MANIA section in the parking lot beforehand.

I’m taking a ride up with ViolentMike. Although a suite sound sweet, lol, we’d much rather be part of the crowd! Can’t wait to see Forrest live again. We saw UFC 55 Fury when he got his 1 and only TKO over Elvis Sinosic, haha!
