Yeah,in that case, you must love hot-dogs sausages.j/k!Seriously though,i’m from a 5 millions hab.city, and happen to hunt, like many others too.But being a biologist myself i totally understand and respect your opinion!

Alpha,
I didn’t know you were a biologist. Do you have an opinion on the whole vaccine vs autism debate? From what I could tell, it’s inconclusive at best. But my wife and I are considering spreading out the shots over a longer period of time.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 27, 2009 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions
Well punch,i didn’t know much about ASD and MMR vaccination, because i’m in eco/bio,but from what a heard is that,no difference were found between cases and controls for measles antibody response. There was no dose–response relationship between autism symptoms and antibody concentrations. So then again i’m not totally sure so i’ll go check in the Bio journals’and comeback to you with a better proper answers.
by Alpha Male 360 on Apr 27, 2009 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions
Don’t go out of your way. It sounded like the anti-vaccine crowd feels it’s the volume of shots these days. They point out it went from 12 shots in 1985 to 35 at present. They think the toxins that accompany many of the shots have a combined effect that hinders brain development. It seemed to me that babies with existing conditions or compromised immune systems were more at-risk.
The opponents claim that the studies done this far have been limited to a few children. They compare it to cigarettes. They say “just b/c you can find three smokers who don’t have cancer, that doesn’t mean cigarettes don’t cause cancer.”
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 27, 2009 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions
Right, but it’s a problem of the anti-vaccine crowd moving the goalposts of scientific evidence further and further back. It originally was a problem of Thimerosol in the vaccines. That was taken out in 2001 and yet autism rates continued to climb. Then, it was specifically the MMR vaccines. The original study claimed that there was a connection, but 16 independent studies were unable to reproduce the same results in the lab.
But here’s the kicker – the original study that was used by the anti-vaccine crowd was discovered to be fraudulent. The man behind the study had cooked the numbers to maintain his thesis.
So now, the claim is (as you say) that it’s a problem of too many shots.
I am not a biologist, but every reputable scientist has basically said THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN VACCINES AND AUTISM.
The problem is people are taking Jenny McCarthy’s word for it. Jenny McCarthy is not a scientist. She is not a doctor. Telling parents to not vaccinate their kids is incredibly dangerous. There were over 130 deaths because of measles in the past year, and almost half were because parents refused to vaccinate their kids because of Jenny McCarthy.
by Collin on Apr 27, 2009 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions
That was an,interesting subject,so i couldn’t resist to check a little bit more.I came to the same conclusion, like you said babies with existing conditions or compromised immune systems are more at risk. The exact incidence of autism can’t be defined, because autistic disorders develop insidiously over long periods of time,or the disorder is present at birth but not obvious until later.Even the first hospitalization does not indicate the timing of the, occurrence of symptoms, and diagnosis of autism does not always involve hospitalization. So,i would say go ahead, like you and your wife are thinking. With a longer intervals of shots, you’ll have time do diagnose any symptoms.
by Alpha Male 360 on Apr 27, 2009 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Thanks Alpha and Collin. While Jenny is the face of the movement, I don’t take her word for anything. I’m an engineer and I can’t help but try to find the scientific basis for the claims. Everything I found failed to convince me one way or another.
It is pretty crazy that autism has increase 100-fold. Or, at least, the diagnosis of autism has increased 100-fold. But a lot has changed since 1985…. a lot more than an increase in vaccines. It will be interesting to see if they solve the riddle in the next few years.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 27, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions
the reason autism cases rise, is more people are trying to get the diagnosis. My wife has a cousin, her daughter was diagnosed with autism. Now I’ve speant time with the girl (take her places he mom can’t afford to take her). basically In my non medical background opinion, she just lacks a parent that truly cares and works with her. She got the diagnosis she wanted that A. gave her an excuse and B. gets her a monthly check. I’m an old school firm believer in parenting. My 7 year old reads books that 6th and 7th graders read and comprehends it. Why? because both his parents are smart and work with him! Compare kids with parents that care about scholastics as well as sports with parents that care more about themselves and you’ll find the answer to many questions
***all my opinion that can be backed with simple research!
by kevin on Apr 27, 2009 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions
My daughter is 1.5 yers old now and she’s speaking in full sentences and blowing me away all the time. Besides my wife and I, she has spent a lot of time with my Mother. Between the three of us, she get’s constant stimulus. I can definitely agree that in the first few years, development is tied heavily to parent interaction.
But 100-fold increase Kev! Something is going on other than shitty parenting. Some healthy kids acutally become more autistic over time. And I’m sure there are some great parents with autistic kids. I just keep thinking that if we take into account what your saying and cut the sat’s in half, there’s still such a rediculous increase that it seems something else is at play.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 27, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions
no doubt about it punch! 15 years ago, no one was getting tested, now everyone is, hence the rise in diagnosis! It’s like anything else, the more juice it gets the more cases you’ll see!

Fedor is too busy grappling with Aoki to think about fighting or hunting Lesnar.

You think Brock would tap Aoki out do you?
by introvert on Apr 27, 2009 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions
all brock would have to do is grab aoki and twist anything he has a hold of. do you really think aoki could even compete with brock?
by sac165 on Apr 27, 2009 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions
You are obviously a little confused about the difference between submission grappling and MMA. Aoki would be way to fast and slick for Brock to do anything in the way of submissions….he wouldn’t even come close to hurting Aoki. Maybe he could lay on top of him for the entire match, but other than that he’d do jack shit.
by introvert on Apr 27, 2009 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions
Well Aoki vs Fedor in this grappling exhibition should give us an indication!
by Ermac on Apr 27, 2009 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions
introvert, brock is a world class grappler that is over 100 pounds of muscle bigger than aoki. please tell me a way aoki could beat brock, armbar? brock could curl him with one arm. triangle? i see a wwe powerbomb getting out of that. choke? brocks neck has more muscle than aoki does on his body. if they were the same size than aoki would win, but there is no replacement for displacement.

I hope introvert was joking!? If not all have is wow you are special very very special LOL.
by Puck Head on Apr 27, 2009 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Where did I say Aoki would beat Brock?
I’m simply stating that Brock wouldn’t tap Aoki….no fuckin’ way. Sure, Brock would pick him up and slam him down…but unless Aoki has never trained submissions with a HW he isn’t tapping just because of a size difference.
Have you guys never watched ADCC? I’d imagine if you did, you would know that Aoki came in second place in the ADCC Absolute tournament…..Absolute means “open wieght”…for you guys who don’t live anywhere other than the UFC/WWE world.
by introvert on Apr 27, 2009 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions
I know what your saying a 285 man with arms bigger than Aoki’s body wouldn’t be able to grab a limb and twist his arms? Think about it for a second introvert his hands would wrap around Aoki’s little wrist his other hand would wrap around his Aoki’s little bicep and he would be able to snap that tiny arm any wich way he wants.

Nothing like an America redneck hunting deer at the “ranch”. These shows make me laugh…go to the “ranch”, toss out a few bails of hay, lay out some salt licks, then shoot the pet…er I mean “deer” in the back yard. lmao.

I agree, those hunting ranches are stupid. IM not against hunting but the way they do it down in the states is just F^%$ed. I know a couple of X Conservation Officers and they can go all day with the stories about American hunters and fishers, they just take hunting to a level that is totally rediculous.

I don’t hunt and totally feel the same way as u guys, hunting seems like such an asshole thing to do… but on the other hand I eat meat and occasionally eat wild game. Am I really less of an asshole because I don’t do the dirty work? Hunter’s take pleasure in it, and I guess that’s one way to define the difference between me and them… In a strange way, hunter’s are more forthright about eating what they kill vesus the average meat consumer.
