Weapon X: Matt Hamill has something new for Brandon Vera at UFC 102

Props: MMA Fanhouse
Quoteworthy:
"I have a lot of things to add. I add more moves every time I fight. Every time I fight, there will always be a new move, so at UFC 102 against Brandon Vera, I'll have a new weapon that no one has seen. The old Matt Hamill is not the new one. I can do things that are not expected."
-The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 contestant, Matt Hamill, has some cautionary words for opponent Brandon Vera, who will face "The Hammer" at UFC 102 from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, on August 29. Hamill has long been considered a one-trick pony because of his superior wrestling -- that is until his show-stealing (and surprising) knockout of Mark Munoz via head kick at UFC 96: "Jackson vs. Jardine" last March. Can history repeat itself in Stumptown? Or will Vera finally show Hamill "The Truth?"

Alright Jesse, a bit too far with this photoshop! I can only pray that Hammill stands with Vera and that the Old Vera shows up! He may just kick and knee Hamill so hard that when he wakes up, he’ll actually hear the crowd cheering at Vera’s vicious knock out! One can only hope!

what is he talking about.. maybe jumping hook kick?? I dont know..
Matt – stick to what your good at.. takedowns/GnP.. If you get cute with Vera.. you may just find your head on Dana’s lap at UFC102

Agree that Vera is the favorite in this fight. That said, Vera hasn’t looked particularly strong or even fit fighting at 205 so far. Hamill is one strong sumbitch, and if he can capitalize on that (his one advantage) that will be how he could beat Vera.

I would bet my life that Hamill now thinks he’s a striker. He will definitely stand with Vera. It should be a funny fight. Also his fight with Reese had the worst standup i have ever seen in MMA period. I wish you dq a fighter for being shitty.

Kevin and John.. or anyone who has been to a UFC event. Im a philly native and cannot wait for tickets to go on sale. $$ isnt a big deal, but im wondering what are the best seats for the $ you dish out. I heard the floor seats are awesome if you wanna meet fighters and celebs and shit in between fights, but cant see the fight if it goes to the ground? could someone help me out.. thanks

be ready to spend $$ on floor seats. When they came to Omaha for Fight Night, our tix were $100 and we were just above floor level. We had a great spot though, right next to where the fighters come out. Lot of big screens so you don’t miss any of the action.

I had floor seats for 97 last weekend…bought them on e-bay for $600 each and they were about 10 rows back…

im assuming they’re much more for a PPV event especially for a first time city. vegas are like 800 for floor, im hoping not.. either way looking forward to august 8!

CHarr552: I live in Philly, and if you have missed it we are planning a group trip to UFC 101. Im assuming like me, you are already familiar with the wachovia center? For our group trip we are getting a whole luxury box. YOU know, the ones that are at the end of the 1st level! Box fits 12 people, tickets around $400 a piece, and it includes food n alcohol. We still have around 4 or 5 seats available for you or anyone else on this site that is interested.

just contact one of us a week or two before the event and we can exchange numbers or something. Any maniacs that are attending this event, but are sitting by themselves, are ALL WELCOME to kick it with the rest of the maniacs during that weekend….just get in touch with me or Kevin.

Hamill’s gonna knock Vera back onto the undercards
he’ll punish Vera’s with body shots n take downs which’ll gas Vera. Then Hammer will get his TKO
Just hope he doesn’t come in as a kickboxer cause of one headkick, ubt I think he’s learnt a lesson since Franklin. Maybe his surprise is a sub attempt

LMFAO!!!….that is hilarious. dude i like hamill chances here. vera needs to go back to the bottom of pitt and start from scrtach he cant just go back into the mix like he feels he should. i have hamill winning this by grabing veras head and punching hi in the face till its a wet messy pulp.

I think we’re going to see some good old fashioned Muay Thai fighting from Brandon this time. But yeah, I pick Hamill by decision.

Kevin,
Isnt that a little bit of a douche comment to say that a deaf guy will get hit so hard he might finally hear??? pretty stupid man, have some respect for a guy who has overcome so much.

O rly? It didn’t take Matt Hamill long to finish off Reese Andy, whom Vera couldn’t finish? I know this comparison doesn’t work, but it says a lot about Vera not being aggressive enough.

Terrible photo….just aweful.
He’s right, though. He gets better every time he fights. Sign of a good fighter.

This should be a great fight and I’m very excited as I will be there. I usually go with the thai boxer since I train in that discipline, but I see Hamill winning this one. Vera’s leg kicks looked great last time, but if he tries that on Hamill he will be taken down and ground and pounded out.
by bluepit on Apr 22, 2009 11:54 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah because Matts GNP is so deadly. LOL I like Matt but what is going to do hold vera down?
by lokie on Apr 22, 2009 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If you look at his record and watch his fights that is usually how it goes. Like I said I want Vera to win, but he can’t do anything to Hamill once they are on the ground. His hip control will be too much for Vera. Hopefully it stays standing with some false confidence from Hamill’s last fight.

The only difference we will see from Matt in this fight is he may have different coloured fight shorts.

Both looked good in their last fights. Fight could go either way to be honest. Bet both come in and respect each others strengths to a split decision for Hamill due to take downs.

Since Hamill is trying to become a dynamic stand-up artist…. I predict Vera by TKO round 2. I dont understand why some people ignore their biggest advantages. Its one thing to grow in other area’s, but to forget your strength’s?
by RyGuy on Apr 22, 2009 12:19 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t expect more than his left hand lazy jabs. Vera will destroy him…

I thought Matt had made some improvements when he fought Bisping a while back. His striking looked sharper in the first two rounds and he was out-striking bisping for the most part. He still won that fight in my opinion. What a hack job that was. Anyway, since then though, he hasn’t shown the same discipline in his standup, minus the KO of munoz who is basically just a wrestler anyway.
by Fidel Cashflow on Apr 22, 2009 12:24 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That fight was on TV recently and at the time I felt that Bisping won the fight, but after rewatching it I have changed my tune and Hamill should have been awarded Round 2 after winning Round 1. Bisping still won Round 3, but it should not have been enough.

Vera will be too strong standing up and i believe he will not have any problems on the ground with hamil. Dont forget vera has a very underrated ground game. If we see the vera that showed up to his last fight then hamil is gonna be in some big trouble. Vera will be too fast in my opinion and i see the first round with both men measuring each other out for the most part and then im seeing vera coming out strong by the end of the 1st and with that said i say 2nd round ko Vera winner. Representing the"757"

Just saw Hamill outside the Bell Center in Montreal over the weekend at UFC/borefest97. Seems like a good guy. I’m thinking that he’ll be too much for Vera. Vera’s performances have left a lot to be desired, except for the last one – where he was fighting a no-name can. If you look at Vera’s physique, it’s obvious that he doesn’t train as much as he should. I see a victory in the 2nd for Hamill, by GnP.
by Caknakker on Apr 22, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Awesome pic! lmfao! That being said, I think Hamill will overpower Vera and take a decision!
by Dana's a CrossDresser on Apr 22, 2009 1:28 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If Hamill thinks he’s a kick boxer and stands, he’s getting knocked the eff out. If he sticks to his bread and butter, or should I say peanut butter a jelly, then he’ll GnP out a TKO. Kids got crazy retard strength.

A real plug battle here. I still cant believe that either of these guys are still in the UFC!!!!!!! This wont be worth watching…….good lord Dana give us loyal fans something to get excited about!!!!! PLUG VS. PLUG WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

new weapon . . . hammill needs to start wrestling again for this match or he will be tko’d. its great for him to add weapons but he needs to do so intelligently. vera kicks a lot harder than rich franklin.

I would give all four of my testes to see Hammill knock Vera out.
