I can’t wait for Brock to smash Mir!!!!! Go Brock!

by bulletproof tiger on Apr 21, 2009 1:00 PM EDT reply actions

Here, here!

by attakdog on Apr 21, 2009 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions

mir thinks he can be Fedor? Wow this egomaniac is losing his damn mind!

Brock is going to smash this fool back to being irrelevant!

by john on Apr 21, 2009 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions

what do you want him to say John? “Fedor will kick my ass?”
he says fedor is #1, says he’s jealous of the guys who have gotten to face fedor. Get your mouth off Fedors dick long enough to see that Mir was very respectful of Fedor!!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Fedor would have a tough time with any of the UFC’s top 5 HW’s imo. His last fights with Arlovski/Sylvia didn’t impress me.

by MikeD on Apr 21, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

john just think if you’re a fighter is your mentality going to be “i can’t beat this guy?” god no you would end up getting hurt and what reason would be left to fight? if you don’t think you can beat the best then what are you doing it for? that’s why he said that, not because he’s an egomaniac but because it helps you mentally by thinking you can beat someone..

by randy murders on Apr 21, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Frank Mir is a cool guy…
Kev is right you have to believe in yourself cause if not you’re already done!

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Kevin, be prepared for john to get his panties twisted with your comment! Know one can even mention Fedor in a bad way when his girl friend john is around.

by JV on Apr 21, 2009 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions

lol you guys are nuts! U guys are so damn easy to get a rise out of…By now yo guys should get that I sit around all high and Mess with you dudes, and you guys BITE every damn time! hahahahaha. U think I dont know that you guys will jump down my throat as soon as I mention my favs like Fedor, Shogun n Rampage? or that Im going to get FLAMED for hating on Mir, Forrest and Frank Shammy? Just messing around, i dont fault Mir for this interview he came off respectful…..

But, I hope Brock hunts that interviewer out in Eats him alive! who is he to make fun of brocks Penis tatoo? THats just for us Keyboard Warriors! hahahaha

by john on Apr 21, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions

John, you came more biased than I even imagined you could. He said he wants to fight Fedor. He never said he could even beat him, just that he thought it was possible. There is absolutely no way for Mir to have been more humble.

And what the hell would it take to get you to not jump all over Mir no matter what comes out of his mouth. If he said “yeah, Brock will probably beat me in the first round”. You would say, ""probably!" Wow this guy is an egomaniac because Brock willl “definitley beat him in the first round.”

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir stands small chance like everyone else against Fedor but hes a decent fighter and wish him luck against Lesnar. Get past Lesnar first ten talk Fedor.

by c-war on Apr 21, 2009 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, I already attacked you before reading this so count me on the “get a rise out of” tally. There are a lot of people who post seriously about their favorites like cheerleaders. They give no effort to removing their own bias. It’s just, “I like figher X” “I hate fighter y” Everything fighter “y” says is stupid, blah, blah. It’s funny that adults are like that.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions

LoL,good one john!

by Alpha Male 360 on Apr 21, 2009 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

i think john is right, mir has lost his mind he is going to get smashed by lesnar and will never be worthy of fighting fedor so why even mention it.

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions

cause the interviewer asked him about Fedor..
Frank is a smart guy and is tellin it like it is

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions

if he is tellin it like it is he should have said i got brock to worry about.(and that he is not worthy to fight fedor) thats keeping it real right kevin.

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions

No Roy, that would be answering in a PC fashion which is the opposite of “keeping it real.” They asked who he would like to fight. Key word, “like.” He anwered honestly.

And never say “I think John is right.” That’s a rediculous thing to think.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

NO worries….you guys did make me laugh my ass off! I really am not that biased and crazy…just Klownin wit you dudes.

I would actually love to see Fedor fight Mir. I would Cherish every moment of that fight! lol but, If Im “keeping it real” then I would have to agree with Roy that Mir doesnt deserve to fight Fedor….but I would welcome/pay for that match up, so Im not hating~

where does that intervier get the ballz to say that about Lesnar? hahaha, good for him! We say it, but do so behind a computer scream…that twirp put his ass out there on camera!

by john on Apr 21, 2009 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Is it possible Fedor could go undefeated forever?? Ask yourself this John and be prepared buddy…

by McArthur on Apr 21, 2009 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah john,i hope that interviewer, get a interv with Brock, that wold be funny!

by Alpha Male 360 on Apr 21, 2009 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

no one should be expected to go undefeated, it unfortunet that some day he will lose and all the haters will have a hay day and try to down size all he has all ready accomplished.

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed roy

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions

john- how can we jump down your throat when Fedor’s dick is stuck in it?

by LJ on Apr 21, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

“Fedor, undefeated forever?” Hell yes it is possible! All he fights are washed up UFC rejects. John knows the answer to that question, it is easy.

by CaptainAmerica on Apr 21, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

washed up UFC rejects?.. AA would knock Couture and Nogueira to death!

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir and Lesnar would be KO’d too if they fought Andrei..
UFC’s hw divsion is washed up if anything

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I always thought that he would eventually lose, but thats only assuming he stays in the game too long. Right now, NO shot in hell that he loses….but 3 years from now, if he is still fighting, I could see it happening and it will be a real shame to hear all the damn haters whenb that day comes. YOu know u r great when people are dying to see you lose cause you dont believe its possible!

by john on Apr 21, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Could Andre sustain a punch from Brock,I am a huge Arlovski fan ,but there is certain question when it would come to Brock,he had problems with Roy Nelson’s ground game, can he stop Brock’s shoots ,no,that is a very simple question to answer. The UFC’s HW division is not that bad Rob and you know it.Yes,I think AA would beat Couture,Nog,and Mir,but he should have beat Fedor, but he wanted to show boat and it cost him ,so by saying AA would beat these fighter’s is not really discrediting UFC HW division.AA is a great fighter

by scott on Apr 21, 2009 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

can aa take one of brocks punches? could brock even land a solid punch on aa?

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

but to Captain America’s point Andre was not a washed up UFC champ,Dana has openly said that there is an open invitation for AA to come back,I highly doubt Dana would give an open invitation to washed up fighter

by scott on Apr 21, 2009 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, remember what you have seen ,AA chin is very questionable, and Brock does not have to hit people flush to KO ,ala Randy. Also remember how fast Brock is ,the guy ran a 4’6 in the 40

by scott on Apr 21, 2009 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

i don’t know about him having a weak chin, its definetly not a granite chin but he has been knocked out by fedor, tim, and rizzo those are some big hitters, so is brock but he has a ton of power without the striking skills.i think aa could avoid his punches on the feet.

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

could Brock absorb punishment from Andrei is a big question too, cause Andrei would be the one landing since he is a much better striker..

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Props to Mir for keeping a light atmosphere during the interview. He had plenty of chances to get cocky.

Why should Mir not want to fight Fedor? When Mir comes out the champ on July 11th, wouldn’t we want to see champ vs champ??? Not washed up ex-UFC champs vs someone in his prime?

May 23rd – The Machida era begins
July 11th – Mir stops the giant, again!
Aug 8th? – BJ will be doing just that.

Its going to be a great summer! Man, there’s just too much down time between events!

by UFC Champ on Apr 21, 2009 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Fight announcement***

Rampage vs. Machida fighting over the UFC Light heavyweight title will go down at either UFC 102 or UFC 103 which is rumored to take place in the UK

by john on Apr 21, 2009 6:05 PM EDT up reply actions

YES!! Let’s go Rampage!!!

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions

lol, when did Rashad lose the belt? He’s going to, but you can’t make an announcement yet!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Um, that fight could end up being Rampage vs Evans… let’s not hand Lyoto the belt until May 23.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 21, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

no you’re right Jeremy..
Rashad might win that fight just cause Machida has never fought an explosive puncher with the power Rashad posseses, he’s been fighting ground fighters so far in his UFC career, truth be told Thiago Silva’s standup is horrible..

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, Thiago was a perfect opponent for Machida… flat-footed, slow and untechnical, keeps plodding forward. Machida looked like a world-beater against him, but Rashad is a different story.

I still like Machida in that fight, but it won’t be a cake walk.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 21, 2009 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I know, I know…just trying to piss a few people off. In reality I think Rashad has a good shot at retaining the title. He is a legit top 3 fighter at the moment. Once shogun decapitates another top fighter, I would bump shad down to number 3. I do question how Rashad will beat a top opponent that he hasnt made Jardine already face..hahaha Low Blow!

I think Shad has a good shot at successfully defending his title, but in my eyes Machida has to be the Favorite to beat Rashad…Yes they are both undefeated, but only Machida manages to win fights without being hit….I Acknowledge how skilled shad is, but he hasnt ever fought a top fighter like Machida…so I have to see shad beat Machida to believe it….Regardless of what happens in that fight, there isn’t a doubt in my mind that shad will Lose to Rampage whenever they finally fight. The big question is can Rampage beat Machida or Shogun?

The point of me posting that news above was: According to an “industry insider” Page will get his title shot at uFC 102 in Oregon, or UFC 103 which is rumored to take place in the UK!

by john on Apr 21, 2009 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Evans vs Machida will be a great fight either way. Two guys in their prime – can’t beat that. I do hope its Machida on top.

by UFC Champ on Apr 21, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

You know, I got to wonder if Rampage’s KO power is really all its cut out to be. I mean, his last couple of KO’s have been Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, and Marvin Eastman. Silva and Chuck are both on their last run of fights, and Marvin Eastman, well enough said. Forrest and Hendo and Jardine took some pretty good shots and hung in there. Looking at those stats, you got to wonder if Page’s power is a bit overrated. Chucks been on a decline since his loss to Rampage, and although he was invincible then, it was his first real striker he fought in a while, and that loss led to a steep downhill fall. Decisions the un-knockout-able Henderson (I’ll give him that), but could only catch Forrest real good once. Ko’d Wandy, but apparatnly everyone can do that nowadays. Most recently, couldn’t finish Jardine, who many think his chin is suspect (not me however).

I’m just thinking out loud guys. But I really do think that Rampage will NOT get the LHW title back. Shad and Machida are both WAY faster, better footwork, and better technique. Rampage will get frustrated, and get caught, and knocked out. _ defeats Rampage Jackson by TKO to retain UFC LHW Championship.

Shogun now, even though it was a one-rounder, and Chuck looked slow, showed promise to me. I was skeptical about him, and picked agaisnt him, and thought he would gas, but I was impressed with a few thing by him:
-the pace he was able to keep up
-leg kicks
-takedown on Chuck
-immediate transition to the leg lock
-killer instinct

by RedDog on Apr 22, 2009 12:03 AM EDT up reply actions

well your thinking wrong.. a chin is a chin no matter who the fighter is or how good he is!
that Rampage uppercut made Forrest eyes roll back into his head and he should not have jumped into his guard and let him recover..
And Rampage has way better technical boxing skills than Rashad and Machida does, If Rampage hits you cleanly on the chin it’s lights out!
Chuck Liddell’s power was overrated if anything, it seemed like guys went down just because they didn’t like getting hit hard not because he knocked them out or anything

by RoB on Apr 22, 2009 1:14 AM EDT up reply actions

hahah! good one, that mikey clown doesnt even know what he is talkin about..and about guys who worry about andrei gettin hit by brock? u should worry about brock being ripped by andrei coz he cant land a punch while andrei is pulverizing his cock tatoo..worry about takedowns? that’s really funny in a sense that ever since brock became an mma fighter he never really taken down anyone..he cant even takedown a 60 year old…rofl

by gaara on Apr 22, 2009 3:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Haha I’m laughing to hard at everyone who is saying Mir doesn’t deserve to fight Fedor… where were they when Randy was trying to do it? Damn man the guys wearing the real HW belt cause he took it from Nog and beat Lesnar already. If your a top dog at all you want to fight the top dog to get recognition and another win and more than likely a huge paycheck. Also to anyone who thinks Arlovski’s chin is suspect watch the fights. If there is any fighter who wouldn’t be knocked out by shots like those then please let me know who it is cause I would like to see him match up against Fedor. Arlovski is one of THE most skilled HWs in the world. His stand up is sick and most people don’t even know he has a solid ground game. That lard Roy never had Arlovski in dangerous territory the entire fight so if you want to talk about how he was beating Arlovski on the ground go watch that fight again. Arlovski would absolutely crush Lesnar. but everyone knows that if you give Lesnar a year or two he’ll be an unstoppable force in the UFC. lol cause we all know Fedor will never be going to the UFC.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Apr 22, 2009 7:16 AM EDT up reply actions

I like Mir. I hope he pulls it off. I doubt we’ll see Brock bum rush him this time. I think Brock is going to test his hands against Mir this time.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions

“Test his hands” Thats the key to this fight Punch. All Brock has to do is keep it standing.

by JV on Apr 21, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I actually feel a little more comfortable with it being on the feet. When Brock is in Donky Kong mode on the ground I get nervous thinking it will get stopped any moment. Anyway, I think it inevitably ends up on the ground. I think they trade, Mir lands a few, then Brock lands one that puts Mir on his back. Then Brock hits the ground to finish him. More than likely Mir can’t lock him up in guard and the ref stops it. But just maybe Mir will pull off a sub. I guess I would be surprised to see Brock let Mir up if he rocks him.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

i like mir. hes def cocky, but all fighters are cocky in their own way. i think mir is funny, he says thing purposefully to get a rise out of his opponent. when he says things w. that little grin you can tell the big reason hes saying it is to get a rise out of them. i think its kinda funny, though i must say a few times on the ultimate fighter i thought he went a little far

by Phil on Apr 21, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Mir will submit Lesnar again but I expect him to stand up with him for awhile. Even if Lesnar lands a blow to put him on his back he’ll have to decide if it’s worth it to try to pound Mir out. The last time he tried to do that he got caught in a submission. I just don’t see Lesnar’s “bully” style of fighting as enough to get by a skilled mma artist like Mir.

by greggo on Apr 21, 2009 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Punch…

“Donkey Kong mode” – I can’t stop laughing!!!

by UFC Champ on Apr 21, 2009 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Ovary Puncher: IMO, Brock would definitely let Mir up after he rocks him. He wouldn’t want a deja-vous of a kneebar again would he? hehe!

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Apr 21, 2009 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I was puling for Mir in the first fight. Both guys come off like jerks to me, but I recognize that what we see may be what is intended for tv viewer consumption. I try to give every one the benefit of the doubt.
I think I’ll be pulling for Brock in this one, then I want to see Lesnar VS Carwin at some point.
The Fedor thing is kinda getting old since there is nothing we can do to setle the matter.

by Jrandolph on Apr 21, 2009 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

i think brock is gonna take this one and they prob meet again..
Fedor would prob meet Brock if he wins.

by randy murders on Apr 21, 2009 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

thanks Mikeybear, you just jinxed the card! anytime anyone says a card is “stacked” it disappoints!!!!!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

lol. thats what it seems like. 94 was “stacked” 97 i thought was “stacked”… from now on, every UFC event card officially “sucks” (reverse psychology anyone?)

by Synyster on Apr 21, 2009 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Brock is overrated! I hope Mir dominates him in the stand up and when he gets taken down (because Brock will take him down) he submits him again. I would love to see Brock arm barred! I hope Mir shows that size isn’t the only criteria for a fighter. Technique, experience and skill still matters!!!!

War MIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Chief on Apr 21, 2009 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions

My exact sentiment brother!!!!!!!!
WAR MIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Rajiv on Apr 21, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Chief,

I’m rooting for Mir, but you aren’t giving Brock his due. You left out the category of coordination and speed. Brock is rediculously strong, fast, and coordinated. It’s the last two that separate him from the Hong Man Choi’s (Sp?) and Bob Sapps of the world.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions

And I suppose I should throw in that Brock started with perhaps the most useful skill to have, wrestling.

Brain is with Brock, heart is with Mir.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I believe Brock has the tools to beat Mir. I just believe Mir has it to a greater extent. I don’t dislike Brock, except for the penis tat. I think Brock is the future, I just believe he’s not the immediate future. Once he learns the rest of the sport he’ll be a dominating force. Right now with people who can keep up size wise I think he’ll go down. Mir is a pretty big guy himself. I think eventually Carwin will beat Brock because he’s doing it the right way. He’s got all the same tools as Brock and the size. The difference is he’s gaining the experience and the confidence going through the ranks instead of being on the top to start with. Brock could surprise me, definitely a possibility. I just hope Mir gets the win. I feel he’s the more deserving of the two and has just as much potential.

by Chief on Apr 21, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Cheif,

Don’t forget, Carwin has something like 10 MMA fights under his belt AND he’s undefeated, so he’s in a better experience position than Brock. He can take a few shots from heavy a hitter like Gonzaga and come back within the minute and knock him out…now that’s a tough guy.

Can’t wait to more of Carwin, maybe next against Mir for the title?

by UFC Champ on Apr 21, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Brock is going to beat down Mir.

Lesnar is a much better fighter with a lot more cage experience since they first met… and Brock was dominating that fight.

His athleticism and size DO matter… a lot. This time he won’t panic if Mir goes for a sub… and his jitz defence is probably better too.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 21, 2009 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions

ufc champ you are forgetting how important the quality of your opponent is. carwin has ten fights but only one against a decent fighter. i think he has a bright future but his quality of opponent has to get better. remember when everyone thought randy would beat brock because carwin didn’t really give him much trouble when he was training for that fight. brock looks alot more agile than carwin, and i think his strenghth and his ability to close the gap with gsp type speed is amazing for his size. carwin needs to fight kongo next.

by Buttcrack Obama bin Laden on Apr 21, 2009 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I’d like to see Carwin/Kongo too… but then they’d better set it up soon or who’s going to fight the champ next?

I think Carwin would roll over Kongo once he gets him down.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 21, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t say a lot more cage experience. He beat up Herring who is nothing more than a gatekeeper, albeit a great gatekeeper. He also beat a old and undersized Couture. Both great fighters but both I think Mir can also handle.

His athleticism and size do matter, I don’t deny that… but Mir is not exactly small. He’ll only give up about 20lbs which is less than anyone else he’s fought.

Like I said in previous statements, Brock can obviously pullout the win here but I think Mir will be just to well rounded for Brock’s size and athleticism to amount to much.

by Chief on Apr 21, 2009 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Chief, I’d say 5+ rounds in the cage with very good fighters(post-Mir Brock) is a LOT more experience compared to 1 minute in the cage against a can (pre-Mir Brock).

Does he have a lot of experience compared to Mir, or any other UFC heavyweight for that matter?

No.

Does he have way more experience and cage savvy than the Brock that fought Mir the first time?

Yes. Yes indeed.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 21, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, I can’t argue with that.

I also think Carwin would take Kongo.

by Chief on Apr 21, 2009 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Carwin/Kongo would be a great match up as a prelim to a title shot. I like Kongo, but he seems to lose the matches that count and win against the meaningless guys.

by UFC Champ on Apr 21, 2009 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

@MikeD

What about Fedor’s domination of Tim Sylvia didn’t impress you? I’ll admit he didn’t look great with Arlovski, until he KO’d him stone cold. Fedor would chew up the UFC top 5 HW’s, and easily the “#1” Lesnar.

by James on Apr 21, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

mikey my dear bear…i cant believe you still believe that cult..hahaha! wake up son please…im not saying that fedor will be undefeated forever but not in the ufc..certainly not..

Did Mir forget that he said Fedor wasn’t even a top 5 Heavy weight a few months back???? Quite a turn around……….

by Venzia on Apr 21, 2009 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir is jacked out of his head….He knows Brock smacked him around in 1rst fight. And with little to no experience Brock Man handled him. Brock has more raw talent in his little finger than Mir holds in his prepie head. I hope Mir realizes he will be facing a whole new animal next time he squares off with Brock. I PREDICT A 2ND ROUND TKO…BY GROUND AND POUND…GO BROCK

by Robin on May 13, 2009 11:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Hey John wait until Brock puts that big penis tattoo in your mouth along with his fist! I can assure you John that any interviews you expected with Brock are no more. I used to like Mir but I cant believe he wont admit that he was being pounded by Brock and had it not been for the ref stopping Brock and accusing him of hitting Mir in the back of the head but anyway Mir was completely embarrassed in the second fight it was if Brock was fighting a woman.

by HDNKR on Jul 19, 2009 1:53 AM EDT up reply actions

…I’m kinda cheering for Mir. Hopefully it’s a good fight… like longer than 90 sec. this time.

by rawbert on Apr 21, 2009 1:01 PM EDT reply actions

It might be longer than 90 seconds, but I don’t see it coming out of the first round. Brock by 1rd destruction. Which is kind of a shame, because I do like Mir…

by Reservoirdog119 on Apr 21, 2009 1:02 PM EDT reply actions

What a great interview! Anyone who says Mir comes off bad in this one is crazy! I get the impression he speaks directly from his heart. “If people say you look great in a 90 second loss, obviously expectations weren’t too high.” PRICELESS! I really think Mir does know “rock bottom” and is a smart fighter who will have a good plan coming in. I think Brock may be the future of the HW division, but I’m definitely rooting for mir!

i can only hope that he will end up in the ufc, but i am not sure of it, theres japan and strikeforce but i pray that one day someone gives or both give a little and he ends up in the ufc before long. i would love to see him fight brock or even mir just to shut people up.

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Fedor can’t run away from the UFC forever. Eventually he’ll want to fight the best to bring some sort of closure to his career. By that I mean, to settle it one way or another.

Can you imagine being even 50 years old when you’re washed up as a fighter and someone says, you weren’t the best because you didn’t fight the top “prime” guys back in the day? There would be nothing you can do about it then, so its time to do something about it now.

One fight in the UFC doesn’t prove anything, it would have to be at least 3, we all know that once can be a fluke win or lose – so I would want to see something more concrete, that way no excuses for anyone.

by UFC Champ on Apr 21, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

one could be a fluke how about 30, i would love for him to come to the ufc but its people who don’t know the sport that think he has something to prove.who in the ufc does he need to fight?maybe brock but the rest?the only other ones randy, nog and maybe mir don’t prove nothing.

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Fighting top contenders proves nothing?? You’re dead wrong about that. So you’re saying nobody is worth fighting in the UFC? So according to you, Fedor has nothing to worry about? Whatever.

by UFC Champ on Apr 21, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

no hw in the ufc is worth fedor fighting except to prove idiots wrong. like i said brock because he is the champ and who else? randy at 45 no, nog already done that, mir i don’t think we be much after he loses to brock.carwin sure but carwin has only beat one guy gabe, gabe maybe but he needs to string some wins together, cain to young has what 4-5 fights?kongo no thanks don’t need to see him fight a striker.is there someone else?

by roy on Apr 21, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Roy, the level of Fedors competition hasnt been great, there are a long list of fighters on there who were kickboxers, side shows, not heavyweight or well past their prime. His best wins were Cro Cop and Nog, apart from them who has he beaten that stands out? Beating a ex-champ a few years after they drop the belt is so far from beating an actual champ. Just look at the rapid decline of chuck. Fedor has never had a fight in a cage either. He has a lot to prove if he wants to be considered the best heavyweight in the world.

by PanicZoo on Apr 21, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Thats exactly what I mean PanicZoo. Fighting nobodys and has-beens don’t account for much. Other than the two fights you mention, not many stand out. Everyone wanted the Randy fight – but yet again another guy passed his prime.

Dana is right, to be the best you have to fight the best.

by roy on Apr 22, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Roy they werent the best, not even close, washed up wrestlers like coleman and randleman? For real? Tim and AA had both been cut from the UFC roster. Hong Man Choi is a slow, innacurate unfit kickboxer wirh zero ground game, same with Zulu. Hunt is an awesome guy and a good kickboxer but should never have been in with a top MMA guy as he has no ground game either. Linland and Bubalu are MW and LHW and not even top in their own weight divisions. Kosaka is a small guy and middle of the road journeyman, Semmy Schilt kickboxer with no ground game, Heath Herring good allround MMA guy but not top notch opponent.
To answer your question he should fight Couture, Gonzaga, Carwin, Dos Santos, Kongo, Mir, Lesnar. Theres 7 viable opponents 4 of them ranked in the the top ten.

by PanicZoo on Apr 22, 2009 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Brock will likely be a pretty big favorite. not in my mind, but gamblers make the line and lots of people will be betting brock which will drive Mir into a big dog. wait until last minute to bet this one for best odds!

you might want to go back and watch their first fight. I don’t remember how they compare on paper, but it looks like brock is 1 1/2 times bigger than Mir. I love Brock, can’t wait for him to get past this and fight Carwin. Now that’s a dream match right there!

For that one I got my money on Carwin…

I thought Randy did pretty well against Brock… if Randy wasn’t so much smaller, he could’ve had a better chance…

That all being said, as a considerably larger guy, I think Mir has a good chance. What, Mir is about 255? Brock is what, at best 275 on fight night?

by yoshi on Apr 21, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

randy handled carwin when training for brock, so what exactly is your reason for betting carwin? randy was in phenomenal shape and was drained by the second round. brock’s camp says he was 283 going into the ring against herring. look at how much bigger he was than herring in their fight. herring and mir are similar in size. brock put mir on his ass with a straight jab in their last fight. i like mir but i dont think brock stands over top of him this time. he will stay on him and break him similar to the herring fight.

by the Levi on Apr 21, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m rooting for Alves all the way, but its going to be interesting to see how he deals with GSP’s strength, size, and athleticism. I’d say that Thiago is the better striker, and he has a powerful sprawl, but Hughes was able to get Thiago down once, so I’d put money on GSP getting him down more than that. GSP might be more tentative with his shots though, for worry of getting caught with a knee on the way in. Thiago also has great defense on the bottom, but he might wear out in a 5 rounder, and eventually GSP’s relentless GNP would take him out.

Looking at GSP’s past UFC opponents, they’re virtually ALL known for their grappling more than striking:

BJ,Fitch, Serra, Hughes, Koscheck, Sherk, Parisyan, Trigg…He’s never faced a striker like Alves before. This fight poses some very new problems for him. I’m really looking forward to it.

by --utaptout-- on Apr 21, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Mark my words. “GSP will make a great fighter in Alves look mediocre.” GSP isn’t going to be rushed (no pun intended). GSP isn’t going to trade. He will avoid and determine where the fight goes.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 21, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

GSP will use Greco takedowns on Alves. I’m pretty sure that GSP, Greg Jackson, and their camp have Alves’ devastating knees scouted. He’s not just gonna put his head down and try to take him down.

by Pat on Apr 21, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t quite get all the hype around Thiago Alves. His 7 fight win streak is pretty impressive, I will say that. On the negative side, the Hughes fight might have been good but he came in at 174 pounds and it wouldn’t have even happened had Hughes not agreed to fight at a catch weight. I don’t think that’s the first time he showed up overweight either (although I could be wrong). GSP hasn’t really faced a great striker yet, but I’m not convinced that Alves is one. Also, the same could be said of Alves’s opponents thus far in the UFC, none of them are known for their amazing striking. GSP, when he chooses to show it, does have amazing striking. GSP wins this one fairly easily if you ask me…that is if Alves can show up on weight.

I have to be honest, I like Mir more every time I hear him and I like Brock less. Mir is not overly honorable to the point that he is boring and annoying but he is honest, seems to be smart and he does not take himself too seriously while at the same time taking the belt and the game very seriously.

He was not always that way in my eyes but he has grown and I hope he stops Brock again.

by MikeD on Apr 21, 2009 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions

How can you say the Arlovski fight wasn’t impressive for Fedor. If anything, it was much more impressive. It makes you come away saying “wow!”, how do you beat this guy? I am not even a Fedor fan (neutral) but all the people that highlight the fact that until the flying knee Arlovski was winning makes me laugh me a** off. Fedor has the intangibles (eerily calm, very mentally strong and super tough) that you just can’t train or teach. They are things that you have to develop on your own and usually from a relatively early age.
Andre will never have those and I happen to be an Arlovski fan.

by Adam T. on Apr 21, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it’s interesting how Fedor-worshipers act as if the first three minutes of that fight never happened. I love Fedor, but I think there’s a strangely irrational nuthugging that is constantly exhibited by his fans.

The outcome of a fight is not everything… how you get there is important. Fedor was getting badly outboxed in that fight. I think Fedor hits like a truck and has amazing submissions and mental toughness, but his punches look sloppy at times and I question his conditioning more every time I see him fight.

Obviously he destroyed Arlovski in the end. But if Anderson or GSP were completely dominated for the first three minutes of a fight, and then their opponent got overconfident and rushed in to get one-punched, I doubt Fedor-worshipers would be as impressed as they were when their God did it.

Fedor has dominated his weight class like no other MMA star, that can’t be denied… but he also fights in the weakest weight class, one full of sloppy and unskilled fighters who rely on size or strength or a one-dimensional skill set. He has also avoided fighting in the one organization that could really test him against the best crop of fighters. Besides Arlovski, a fighter with a nororiously weak chin, Fedor hasn’t beaten anyone impressive in a long time.

by Jeremyjackson on Apr 21, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

he was proving everyone wrong. arlovski was supposed to kill him in a standup fight. everyone said fedor had to take the fight to the ground to win. the great boxing trainer freddie roach talked about how fedor would get beat if he fought AA “like a man”. he fought possibly the best HW striker in mma, and beat him at his own game. lets see anderson beat maia in a bjj fight. or gsp beat anderson silva in a stand up only fight. you are not looking at why it was so impressive. i have never been a big fedor fan, though i do like him. and to win in a way that everyone thought was nearly impossible is very impressive. do you think brock can beat mir in a jiu-jitsu fight?

by Buttcrack Obama bin Laden on Apr 21, 2009 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions

You’re assuming Fedor determined where the fight went, and deliberately kept it standing although he was clearly at a disadvantage.

I disagree. Fedor was reluctant to get close enough to Arlovski to attempt the takedown because of AA’s skill and speeed. He landed a huge punch to end the fight, but if Arlovski had fought smarter then he would have kept peppering Fedor… at that point Fedor would probably have HAD to go for the takedown, and may or may not have been successful doing so.

I think Mir and Brock are the type of fighters that people either just love or hate. Personally i hate brock cuase he has no respect (look what he did after the herring fite) and love how mir has been able to come back from his injury and how intelligent of a fighter he is. He is a good representative fro this sport where brock is just a dumb meathead who beat a guy with no ground game in herring and and 44 year old lhw in couture. Hopefully mir’s working on his conditioning and striking. I really hope he takes this one, im sure he’s the underdog but then again he was the first time they met and when he fought nogeira as well.

well if you paid any attention ,you would know why he did the little rodeo thing at the end of the Herring fight,he pretty much was pulling the same kind of trash talking Mir is doing, and he told Brock this was not going to be his first rodeo. Also think how you would feel as a fighter,if everybody was hating on you for being a professional wrestler. What about Josh Barnett he still is a professional wrestler, nobody says a damn thing about him ,but Brock is a joke. The guy is a national champion wrestler ,with very unusual athleticism, but all he gets remembered for is being a WWE star.Which almost everybody in the world would do for the money they was paying him.All I am saying is people have some pretty stupid reasons to hate on a guy.Talk about a disrespectful fighter Mir has been a ego maniac for years now,I do not care about his wreck and his injury it still does not change the fact that the guy is plain and simple jerk and really comes across as one in every single interview

by Mark on Apr 21, 2009 3:11 PM EDT reply actions

Love him or hate him, he has a point. MMA is leaving the Martial Arts aspect and going more and more in to the world of entertainment. Fighters are not respected for the sheer fact that they are brave enough to step in to the ring anymore. Fighters are now respected for fast finishes, good physic and sadly showboating, cursing and acting shamefully in and out of the ring. I will not sit here and cry for the death of Pride FC, where the fighters and the crowd were more respectful, I am a huge UFC fan. I am just saddened to see the art that is Martial Arts (of all its ways and teachings) disappear before our eyes and give way to fighting styles and fighter mindsets that would dishonor an actual martial artist.

by Dubbie81 on Apr 21, 2009 3:25 PM EDT reply actions

As with anything successfull it all comes down to money. You will see the UFC go more and more toward an entertainment business. Fighters who really deserve title shots are already sidelined. Fighters who are popular can get a title shot with a win or two. Brock should have never had a title shot after 2 fights but whatever. If you are not marketable in the future then you will have no future. Hopefully I’m wrong but it seems to be trailing in that direction.

by CaptainAmerica on Apr 21, 2009 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with almost everything guy`s. Last UFC event Dana pretty much cut down Silva for fighting a smart fight? We want the best MMA fighters and realize not every fight is going to be a slug fest and it shouldn`t be. Not every style is as exciting as the next take Leites for example his style is boring to most but very effective and most MMA fan`s enjoyed his fights like NOG and Maia. Yes we expected Silva to go for the kill but he played it smart and made UFC history. But as far as Brock goes the guy is a one of a kind and Mir is just jealous that a guy with so little expereince can do what Brock has done in his first four fight? If Brock was fifty pounds lighter he still would be a great fighter but would have to do much like Bader or other less experience fighters and climb the ladder and has the skills to do it but because he is 285 pounds on fight night the advantages are to great. For example take Rashad he fights at 215ish as does Bader now add 45 pounds to Bader = 260 do you think Bader has a chance now? Example to equa the average MMA HW is around 240 against Brock 285.

So what are you Lesnar bashers gonna have to say when he beats up on Mir and wins? And Lesnar does have talent, I’d say 2nd best wrestler in the UFC behind GSP, plus he has a good boxing base (chin down, hands up) in the short amount of time he’s been fighting. Only thing he is severely lacking is BJJ and he doesn’t even have to know how to submit people just stay out of submissions with defense. Plain and simple he made a rookie mistake and got caught in his first fight with Mir, I guarantee he won’t make the same mistake again standing above Mir with his leg in proximity to being submitted. Lesnar wins in the 2nd/3rd rd via TKO.

GSP is WAY MORE than just a wrestler! Oh yeah, this is MMA, you need more than wrestling – that will only take you so far. It’s like Chuck and his striking, only lasted for so long.

Hilarious job by the host ripping off Jason Ellis with the Brock Lesnar penis tattoo joke. Let’s hear it for originality!
Funny Mir references looking in the mirror at that tattoo with his endless list of corny tats. The arm band, his last name, the chinese writing etc….

No shit GSP is way more than just a wrestler, and no shit this is MMA. I just pointed out one aspect of MMA. But GSP is using his wrestling more than anything now since he got knocked out by Serra to put a beating on people with his GnP.

A lot of MMA fans just don’t understand how wrestling is such a huge advantage in the ring when your a better wrestler than your opponent. Barnett who some think is the #2 HW in the world lives and dies by his wresling yes he can sub and ground and pound but any fight he has been his main weapon is wrestling. Once he takes advantage with his wrestling he uses secondary styles but they are useless without his wrestling take wrestling away from him and he’s out of the top 30 easily.

Wrestling is the number one MMA style that improves your endurance and strength. It also greatly improves your balance and competitiveness in the ring. Now if you think wrestling is boring that’s an opinion and doesn’t take away the fact that the best wrestlers in MMA have a effective advantage, and yes Brock not only has the size and strength and speed advantage he also has a wresling advantage over most his opponents. Yes he can still get caught with a punch or sub that is more likely to happen early in his career than later but because of his freakish athletic size and wrestling skills he is able to fight amongst MMA`s best like it or not. For what he has done so early in his career is amazing but causes hatered among jelous MMA fan`s and fighters

Don’t know if it’s been said yet, but I can’t believe how cocky he is now, isn’t this the guy that nearly gave up after Vera beat him?

HAHA, Mir kinda looks like Jack Nicholson when he played the joker in Batman.

wow so many brock haters here, people say he didn’t earn a shot but who would say no to a chance to fight for the championship the fight was thrown his way, can’t blame the guy for taking the shot, mir is not impressive at all he will not beat brock this time mir will definatly not arm bar him thats for sure.
Mir has experience which is so important but brock has pure athleticism, speed, size and power thats hard to ignore Mir has great jiu jit su which is great for the ground game but i have a feeling this one will be alot of standing and mir getting his face beat in and hopefully closing his lips so he won’t talk ever again because hes a moron

Mir will beat Brock in 2 and then Fedor will get beat as well.

Mir by TKO. He will dissolve Brocks status as a top 10 heavyweight after that fight.

He dropped Mir with a JAB, a Fricken Jab and this was a long time ago. His oxing looked pretty good against Randy, and it is going to be hard for Mir and his “improved” striking to get close to guy with over 81" in reach. Lesnar via Decapitation.

Agreed, a pudgey Brandon Vera knocked out Frank Mir in the firsy minute of the first round. If he thought Vera hit hard wait until Lesnar nails him with a soild shot; he’ll cave the side of his head in.

I can’t wait to see what Mir has to say for himself after he gets destroyed. Talk about being a baby for pucks sakes, and one hand he’s talking about the respect in martial arts then he’s laughing at the Penis joke and crying about Brock making more money than him what a dip sh^t!

I feel like Mir is one of the best representatives of the sport. He is very humble but still confident in his own skills. He also is very well spoken. He does commentary on WEC and it really is night and day from when you just had to guess what was going on when it went to the ground sometimes in MMA fights. I really hope he is faking now about maybe not being in the best shape for the fight. I hate for fighters to have san excuse if they lose. Rather it be a fair fight with both in top shape. Brock could put a hurting on someone real quick but I still think the BJJ will win again.
