I’m not going to watch the video, because I don’t take Cung Le serious! Who has he fought? Who will he fight next? There really isn’t a middle weigh champion in strikeforce, is there? Go fight Anderson Silva…oh wait, then we’d all know what a 36 year old joke who has never fought anyone really looked like! Go do your movies, I give him props for that, but to actually ever have to considered him relevant in the sport is laughable to me!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 12:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cung Le is marginally more relevant in MMA than Kimbo, but not much more. Nobody’s going to give a shit if he does turn his back.

by attakdog on Apr 21, 2009 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

thank you attackdog, and good comparison! His skill set is more relevant, but then again, any fighter with a wrestling or jits background takes him down while doing one of his gay ass kicks!

One disciplined, one dimensional strikers like Cung Le used to get taken apart at UFC1, he has no hope whatsoever of hanging with the big boys in the modern UFC. Anybody who argues differnt is clearly deluded.

attakdog-

…And that is the real reason why he has disappeared off the map.

Although I cannot blame him for doing so…

by OJR on Apr 21, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Isn’t making money and doing what you love relevant?.. lets face it Cung is doing the right thing here, no matter what you say..

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

absolutely Rob, so give up mma, go do movies and stop doing mma interviews so I can forget about a guy with zero quality wins!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think he should give up mma completely, he is doing movies right now and he’s reppin the sport.. He also seems to be a good coach for Anthony Johnson..

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, I think he should fight his first top 50 ranked opponent, get KTFO then give up. And stop talking about Anderson Silva because you’re not on his radar!

by attakdog on Apr 21, 2009 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

who cares if he ever fights a top 50 opponent? Cung is a bigger star than most in mma anyways..

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So’s Kimbo and that’s sad!

by attakdog on Apr 21, 2009 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

why?.. it gives attention to the sport.. Cung has a passion for the sport, and he beat Shamrock for the title, what more do you want from him?

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The kind of people Kimbo attracts we could do without! Cung’s so passionate for the sport he pisses off for months on end filming b movies, never defending said title he won off Frank Shamrock, who’s last relevent fight was 12 years ago!

by attakdog on Apr 21, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he’s living with MMA every day.. It’s not all about getting in a cage fighting

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol, I’m with attackdog on this one. Kimbo is a joke and any fan he brings to mma is just as much a joke! “why does he need to fight anyone top 50?” maybe because he wants to consider himself the best and call out the best! If thats not reason enough, I don’t know what is!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lets not compare Cung to Kimbo.. I have no problem accepting who he is or what he brings to the sport! I am a fan of Cung no matter what

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t give a damn about Kimbo..

dude quit riding cung lee’s nuts he has like 7 fights or sumthing and only one of the people was even ok. His second best competition in his carrer was SAMMY MORGAN like come on sammy morgan? i think ive seen him get k.o’d more then anyone in mixed martial arts, ive even seen him get ko’d more then chuck. so please cung lee just go die :)….or go make some more mma movies with the guy that was on so you think you can dance the movie or whatever the movie was called…….but for the record id much rather see anderson fight cung lee then thales ….cuz atleast cunglee would throw a punch and not try his patenent soccer slide to his back and complain when anderson doesnt jump into his guard

by JG on Apr 21, 2009 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

dude i don’t care about what he’s accomplished and who he’s fought or not, he has great standup skills and i like him for doing movies and for who he is..
I’m not even talking about his game or saying that he’s all that

by RoB on Apr 21, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

jg the movie is step up and its a pretty good movie. but i agree with all the hate infact im an instagator(bad spelling) and will take shots at cung whenever i get them so give scott smith a title shot so he can knock your overatted ass back to hell

by Jared on Apr 21, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

how do you know the movie is good? it starts friday!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course Cung Lee isn’t a ‘A’ Level fighter. He’s 36yrs old, his interview explains his perspective. He’s humble, thoughtful and got a good head on his shoulders’… Im sure Cung Lee couldn’t hang in the UFC… but I respect him for accepting his role in the ‘midsize show’…

by DAVE A on Apr 21, 2009 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Channing Tatum was in the step up movies, and that was what he was talking about..
great post Dave I agree!

now that we all saw what diaz did to shamrock can we really bealive that Cung le is on the top of his game? he has to fight a top 5 in his weight class so hat we can really say Cung le is the SH!t.. i like the dude but it’s been a long while since frank shammy

by mikeybear on Apr 21, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cung Le is the greatest stand up fighter in the 185 division and can wrestle. He does have weak jiu-jitsu but no one has been able to beat him. Frank Shamrock is a master on the ground and very well rounded but that is the only name Le has beaten. I don’t think Le sucks but he has got to fight more. Any fight he gets from now on will be someone good. 3 fights a year at least.

by hatteras on Apr 21, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cung Le has incredible form when striking and is fun to watch. He is also very respectful of other fighters, which is a quality I admire. However, I lost some respect when he refused to say when he would fight again. Afterall, he is the Strikeforce middle weight champion and he owes it to his organization and fans to defend the title. He certainly realizes that being the champion increases his marketability for movies, which can mean big bucks. If he fights Lawler, Diaz or Scott Smith, he has a legitimate chance of losing. I would have more respect for him if he simply stated that he was taking a break from fighting to pursue acting and would return to fighting when the acting opportunities slowed down.

by DrPepper on Apr 21, 2009 8:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I totally agree- i really don’t like him, and for him to make a statment in a video that he thinks he can beat Anderson silva is laughable… Anyone who is champ of an Organization leaves the belt holds up a weight class and does movies is a loser to me. Make ur movies u bum (its not even good trust me on that- the thought of a guy who trains on a empty bus in the middle of the night to prep himself for a fight is just a sad sad sad movie to me). This goes for Couture when he gave up the belt to do that scorpion king movie, and the same goes to Roger Huerta- hang up the gloves then go do movies if you like..

by ricky on Apr 21, 2009 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Don’t be a DumbAss, he never ever said he could beat Silva… what interview were u listening to?… all he said is that he would give it 100%. It’s ok to have an opinion BUT GET YR FACTS RIGHT!

by DAVE A on Apr 22, 2009 5:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

KEVIN,
Totally agree! He is the worst “champion” in MMA history and a disgrace to the sport.

I fu*kin hate this dude.

by SoCalStunNa on Apr 21, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

totally agree with you Kevin

by jjdnb on Apr 22, 2009 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

once he settles down and gets to the ufc, wins the middle weight title in A.S.‘s last match, and dominates for the rest of his career, you ppl will be the sameone’s jumping on the cung bandwagon. u all disgusted me, and i can’t wait to be the one to tell ya all “i told you so”.

by JohnnyKcage on Apr 30, 2009 7:05 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have only seen him in the one fight vs. shamrock, but i think he is extremely talented. That being said it is overdue for him to defend his title.

by canadianmma on Apr 21, 2009 12:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

if you say you won’t turn your back on mma then stop taking long layoffs to make movies and fight.

by ian on Apr 21, 2009 1:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I bet he’s only doing this interview to indirectly promote his new movie.

by Lights Out on Apr 21, 2009 2:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lawler, Smith, Radach, Diaz you want me to keep going?

by lokie on Apr 21, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, but all you’re doing is showing the lack of contenders in strikeforce! Who (top 5 mw’s) in the UFC, could he beat?

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree Kevin, but he said he could beat him in strikeforce so I gave him a few names, and to answer your question about the UFC ill go with zero Cung would get destroyed

by lokie on Apr 21, 2009 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Never seen him fight, but my impression of Cung is of a prettyboy and a sellout.. I don’t blame him for making $$, but he’s trying to be the next Rock.. make your name in the fight game (I know WWE is not real), then do movies. Cena is doing the same thing. The little bit of this interview that I saw was wishy washy, just like a politician and his heart is not in mma any more. Talking about not missing his opportunity to enter movies and how difficult it is. Don’t expect him to come back. A couple of months ago he talked about facing Anderson Silva, hahahah.. Notice when Anderson walked out, Cung was in the front row in the background and looking down and texting.. never looking at him.

by DirtbagHtr on Apr 21, 2009 4:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ahhahaha for real , i didnt even see that i wish i woulda, thats so funny

by JG on Apr 21, 2009 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah right when he got cage side and about to get vaselined, look at the front row gate, during that whole time. It wasn’t like a passing shot, it was all stationary. Didn’t Cung interview last month about taking Silva? Him and Dana were pretty chummy backstage (Dana video Blog Apr 18 part 1 I think?). Don’t be surprised Strikeforce moves on without him, and Dana signs him.

Wasn’t Strikeforce the name of WWF Tag Team Rick Martel and Tito Santana or Tom Zenk, hahahaha

Robbie would smoke this guy.

by Dennis on Apr 21, 2009 4:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Ya’ll are crazy to say this guy would get killed in ufc. Frank was a 5 time champ in the ufc and Cung Le killed him. This guy has never lost and in ufc 1 througfh about 20 there were no real strikers. The best strikers are still in K-1.

Chuck came over from k-1 and in his prime was the best 205 in ufc history. guess who else came from k-1…Anderson Silva, Cro Cop and the current heavy weight champ of strike force Alstair Overeem. The money wasn’t there to pull great strikers into mma before but now it is so the days of the wrestlers are over.

by hatteras on Apr 21, 2009 4:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I literally can’t stop laughing right now, where do I begin? What year was Frank Shamrock the UFC champ for the last time? Frank also fought a stupid fight, he never attempted a takedown. Lets be real, and almost everyone starts at K-1 (strikers), Cro cop, Silva and overeem were also in pride, so I don’t quite get your point!

by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

How long ago was Frank the UFC champ? Please name one person Frank beat in the UFC who is relevant in todays MMA.. He beat Tito Ortiz, but I garuntee you he couldnt have once Tito developed world class cardio. Frank Shamrock is a Joke. LOL I can name you a dozen middle weights that would take in to Cung Lee. Im sorry but the fact you brought up Frank to make your point just makes me laugh

by lokie on Apr 21, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

hatteras you gave me a good belly laugh there, you make so many crazy statements I can’t comment on them all. lokie, you were being generous saying you could name 12 mw’s that would beat cung le, i think I could literally name 50 without breaking sweat lol.

by attakdog on Apr 22, 2009 4:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

hatteras, Frank Shamrock isn’t remotely relevant in modern mma but he still had more than enough tools to get the job done against Cung Le. His giant sized ego got in the way though, believing his stand up skills to be magnificent when in fact they’re piss poor, so he stood and traded and no surprise got badly injured. Any intelligent, remotely well rounded current fighter would take Cung down and sub him in under a minute. One disciplined fighters like Cung Le went out with the ark.

by attakdog on Apr 22, 2009 5:12 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Many are mad at Cung because they love watching Cung fight and cant, but Cung is not fighting because he wants to let his elbow heal, i think most of us would be doing the same thing if in Cung’s shoes or given same opportunity, He had been fighting for a lot longer than 95% of mma fighters who are still competing, i love to see Cung in the cage, but i understand because his body is slowing down, i am thankful for Cung’s fighting, and wish him the best. Some fans are so ungrateful, look at Chuck, dropped him like a used napkin, and he’s fighting his heart out at 40 (too bad his body cant go on) Be appreciative for these guys, it’s only fair for them.
