Bobby Lashley vs Bob Sapp on tap for June 27

Colossal heavyweights Bobby Lashley and Bob Sapp are on a collision course to meet at the Gulf Coast Coliseum, Biloxi, Miss., on June 27, according to Larry Pepe of ProMMARadio.com.
It’s a titanic match up that is expected to be among several mixed martial arts bouts slated for the pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is being coordinated and promoted by Prize Fight Promotions
Lashley -- a former WWE champion and decorated amateur wrestler -- is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Jason Guida at "March Badness" just last month. Most expected the American Top Team-trained fighter in just his second professional fight to steamroll the journeyman.
It didn’t happen -- Lashley looked a bit green against Guida an his inexperience was clearly evident.
Lashley has recently indicated that his ultimate goal is to be a major player in the UFC, but understands that he must first become a reputable fighter prior to a potential debut, vowing to improve and work his way to the top.
He’ll have another chance against "The Beast" on fight night.
Sapp is no stranger to the sport, as well as the occasional freak show – he recently bested a character from a Japanese anime show, "Kinniku Mantaro," at Fields Dynamite!! in Japan on New Year’s Eve 2008.
The former NFL offensive lineman is a bonafide star in "The Land of the Rising Sun," however, that popularity has not carried over to the United States. In fact, the 6’5" 350-pound Sapp dropped his United States debut against 6′11" 330-pound South African, Jan "The Giant" Nortje (2-5), via embarrassing first round technical knockout under the Striekforce banner last year.
Lashley and Sapp typically rely on their size when fighting, but neither of them will have that advantage on June 27. It should be an interesting sight to say the least.

LMAO, Lashly stands less of a chance at beating Sapp than any fight in recent memory! Lashly had a tough time with Guida!!!
by kevin on Apr 21, 2009 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Actually it will be cool to watch- i’ll admite that lashly is very green still, but give him a chance maybe he’s improved a little, what event is this on anyway??

I’m not so sure about that Kev. Sapp is terrible. I think Sapp is less of a challenge then Guida was.
I can’t believe big Nog fought this chump.

Well back then, he was 2-0 and much hyped like HMC was against Fedor.

This freakshow bout belongs in Japan! Hope Lashley gives him a beating though, it’s hilarious watching Sapp cower when he takes punches.

How is this not happening in Japan? I guess drug testing will be left out of this fight.

UFC needs to provide Spider with some formidable opponents. They short change all their fighters, the abuse those guys endure for the price isn’t even worth it most of the time. If Lidell the most aggressive striker in MMA is defending Silva at the point of his exit from the sport, people need to listen. Leites laid down over and over, this worst time was when Anderson had him in the clinch and he slipped out and laid down. If Anderson did not get what he wanted out of the fight after all the training, then the fans don’t either. I love it….sending a beautiful message to the UFC,“get someone in here who is worthy”. The UFC wants to move him up but don’t like the idea that Silva has to vacate the Middleweight title, it would make the division useless; uncredible. UFC should strongly consider offering up 1 fight contracts. I think a lot of people have either forgotten or don’t know but Martial Arts isn’t about killing your opponents. It’s about: Outthinking (check), Outpointing (check), Outlasting (check), Outaggressing (check), Overpowering (check). Spider didn’t want to be assailant of Brasil on Brasil crime. The whole GSP/Silva would never work. Anderson is way to long for him and his lack of striking prowess coupled with his affinity to want to “RUSH” is a recipe for his @$$ getting laid out. AS forever.

most agressive striker in history? what drugs you taking. liddell was always a patient striker id give the most aggressive striker to wandy no questions. shogun is in there too and maybe even the last empereror
by Jared on Apr 21, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions
nope i agree e-dub liddell is the most agressive striker shogun is garbage and wandy got tko’d by liddell’s agressive striking
by kingkong on Apr 21, 2009 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions
Hey?? When did that happen? I seem to remember them having a three round borefest, no TKO’s. Have you ever seen Pride Kingkong?? Wandy and Shogun are miles more aggressive than Liddell ever will be. Liddell’s a counter puncher and doesn’t go looking for knockouts, rather waits for his opponent to make the mistake, thus patient, NOT aggressive. Jared is correct.

I love the maybe, you just never know with the freakshow that is Bob Sapp.
by Scott on Apr 21, 2009 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Yes he is hilariously bad, but I can’t help but enjoy it when he goes down like a sack of bricks to blows that a lot of fighters half his size could handle.
by Scott on Apr 21, 2009 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions
It is always funny watching a grown man cry, especially one his size.
by attakdog on Apr 22, 2009 8:27 AM EDT up reply actions
Lashley’s size and wrestling background gives him some credibility and potential. Sapp….well he just f8cking huge! I don’t know much about him, is his size genetice or…enhanced?

guess bobby lashley doesnt want to be taken seriously as an mma fighter and would rather just be a side show. between this and his appearance at the last tna ppv he clearly doesnt have sights set on going to the ufc at least in the proper route.
by bobby o'shea on Apr 21, 2009 3:53 PM EDT reply actions
he wants to fight you can’t blame the guy if you were just getting into the sport are you gonna refuse fights hell no you want to get your experience and who cares who your fighting, people took crocop seariously and he faught bob sapp lashley is new in this sport give the guy a break he just wants to fight
by kingkong on Apr 21, 2009 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Was Lashley at TNA?
He said himself he wasn’t too happy with fighting Guida and now he’s taking a fight with Bob Sapp? Thats a total 180 on his opnion of taking this serious

when Sapp got poped by Cro Cop and he begain to cry, it reminded me of South Park, when Kyle hit Cartman in the face and he started balling.

to who ever wrote this……how do u figure there isnt gunna be a size difference…………sapp has 100 pounds on lashley
by JG on Apr 21, 2009 5:28 PM EDT reply actions
What I want to know is how do you have all that muscle and strength and not be able to just plow right through a guy?(just an assumption that if you have big muscles you have a crap load of strength)
I mean when these guys fight they just look HORRENDOUS. And guys that are 155 look like they have more drive and can enstil more fear then these two.
I mean sapp looks like a freaking Teddy Bear, you just wanna hug him. I mean I felt sorry for him when he started crying like a baby when cro-cop punched him lol or was it someone else?
by Alex on Apr 21, 2009 5:42 PM EDT reply actions
so many haters. so what if he wants to fight sapp. so what if he wants to do wrestling too. as long as he can still beat other mma fighters it really shouldnt matter.
