How come there is not ONE single mma website covering this news??

Mania you guys need to make a thread about this..The UFC has even gone ‘out of there way’ to take the video off of youtube. That has to mean something?
..What was Anderson thinking?
by WTF? on Apr 20, 2009 9:25 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree and also mentioned this in another thread.
I actually disliked most of the talk regarding greasegate 1 even though I could sympathise with BJ and the fact that it is still cheating to a degree.
But if GSP is gonna get so much stick (when it wasn’t even him to blame) then why should everybody disregard what I think is a worse situation with Anderson (doing it himself right before the fight)?
by Ca$z on Apr 20, 2009 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
lol, there is gonna be a greasing controversy after every fight! I don’t know, I’ve been pondering it all weekend, the event as a whole sucked, sounds like the untelevised fights did too. That said I have no problem with the main event. Yes, Silva is a BJJ black belt, but it’s not a BJJ match. The fight starts standing, if leites can’t take him down, there is no reason for Silva to hop into his guard! This fight screwed it for maia/silva, but in my opinion, Silva should be done at mw. Have a mini tourney Hendo/Biping, Marquardt/maia for the title and move Silva up. Give him Jardine at 100!

What do think about the greasing though Kevin??
I personally think that the grease during the fight will get spread out over most of the body during a certain amount of grappling exchanges anyway but to do this in front of Thales and the whole world BEFORE the fight is a little suspicious to say the least. Especially as we are still only just seeing the dust settle from the GSP fiasco!
FFS talk about giving Leites an unfair start….he only has his sub game to pray on for the win and Anderson goes and lubes himself up like he’s about to enter a bodybuilding contest!

you want my honest opinion? well here it is. Silva is bored! In my opinion, he is the #1 P$P fighter in the world and has no competition! Not to mention he wants to box. He’s basically saying “fuck you UFC.” he seems to want a challenge, so give him a Jardine, Alexander or even Rampage! Yeah I said it! The greasing was purposely done, in Canada in support of GSP! Speaking of GSP, his style would make for a great fight with Silva, but those of you saying GSP takes it, are nuts! GSP would look like he did after the first Serra fight, but worse! All you guys not liking Silva’s last 2 fights are not allowed to like Machida in the next sentence!

how bout this…Tito Ortiz vs. Anderson Silva!!! I’d pay to see that fight!!!
by kevin on Apr 20, 2009 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
hehe, they have to sign the big boy first.. I don’t wanna see it because it would be unfair to Tito, he is a marketable fighter and him being beat by an unmarketable Anderson Silva ain’t right..
by RoB on Apr 20, 2009 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
thats the point! Tito has a huge following still and could market the fight, he’ll stand and bang, and if he does take Silva down, his Jits sucks so silva would stay down there with him! I’m just trying to suggest exciting fights that may be competitive!
by kevin on Apr 20, 2009 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wow Kevin thats a bold statement! You never know you could be right. lol
I honestly believe Anderson wasn’t doing anything on purpose but that doesn’t change the fact that he did it. Anyway I’m sick of talking about greasegate which is why I never got involved the first time round but I thought it only fair that if GSP got chastised then it is only fair Anderson should be too to some degree.
BTW Interesting little comment from Rashad as well about chuck. I think he is being a disrespectful though saying “you have to wonder if he is on the border of a medical problem or something” comment.
I just think Chuck is not able to hang with the upper tier any more. Doesn’t change what he has done in his hey day though which is a hell of a lot more than most fighters. People are acting like losing to Shogun is a really bad thing. I think Shogun would do the same to Rashad if you ask me!

wow, you guys are ridiculous! you call that greasing? HE’S WIPING SWEAT FROM HIS FACE! So I guess now guys can’t sweat…
this is why all of you knuckleheads shouldn’t be worrying about “grease” in fights. Guys get sweaty, vaseline that’s applied to a fighter’s face gets else where when a glove hits it and then hits something else. for crying out loud!

the difference is he’s not putting extra from his hands onto his body or his trainer isn’t he’s just smearing it off his face which really was probably nothing to begin with…

GSP,would look, like he did after the first Serra fight, but worse!”Dont fucking say thing, like that. They are ,people who,can say the same about you(your nuts)to think that GSP would get dominated by the spider IF that match up comes up.What i’m saying is that you have a good and strong opinion that a lots of peoples respect, that’s why we are keeping to read your comments(how, could you not?Especially when you comment on every news that Mania post.)I know that you don’t like the guy(GSP),but man, please stop insulting peoples for thinking otherwise. Also i recall heard you said that the ice man, would be too much for shogun. And now your saying that you where taking for Shogun this week-end.Make up your mind buddy!

Shogun is still in question, I need to see him in a 2nd round to be convinced! Leites was exactly the joke I thought he would be. Matt Wiman is WEC at best, Kongo has earned a fight with a real opponent!! Why wasn’t Quarry first round TKO of MacDonald Televised??? Brian Stan is not a UFC level fighter. Why do all these WEC champions come to UFC and look like garbage? Cantwell is going nowhere. I think this whole event was a sloppy production job!!!
They should spend more time producing a quality 44 dollar pay per view than this blog!! Don’t get me wrong, I like the blogs, love the behind the scene stuff, and I’m probably just mad because this is one of the worst ppv’s I’ve seen in a while and I usually don’t complain about them but WTF!!!
These fights just out right sucked! Wiman Stout fight of the night? Are you kidding me? I think they should of sent a message and gave no one fight of the night. Krzysztof gets submission of the night with a third grade Kimura on a “I have no ground game Stan” Pathetic!!!

Part 2:
I really enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes of Chuck n Shogun in the locker room right before they made their entrances! This is what a like of the blogs, the behind the scenes with the fighters…I hate watching Dana make stupid bets and goofing off with his friends. BUt the behind the scene fighter footage is invaluable!
I really dont like Dana calling the Silva fight an embarrassment. MMA isnt like other sports…Abandoning your gameplan doesnt just cause you to lose in mma, it often causes you to get hurt. Fights start standing up. Silva stuck to his gameplan of not going to the ground with tHales. Its thales’s job to get the fight on the ground if thats were he wants it to be….Just falling down and hoping Anderson will come down to the mat is simply unacceptable, but I dont think it was as terrible as many people are making it out to be!

I know hommie…thats why I didnt call you out! I took a mental note the past couple of weeks on who the REAL Shogun fans are….and you are definitely on that list. Thanks for being a real fan, and not crucifying one of your favorite fighters during his darkest hours…We stood by Shogun during his tough times, and now we will reap the rewards by getting to watch him take the LHW division by STORM!!! All top UFC lHW’s need tyo be put on NOTICE!!! His knee looked great! Did you see the way he was winging those kicks at chuck. I havent seen him commit to Kicks the way he did against Chuck since entering the UFC and that tells me that he is finally getting comfortable on that knee.

I’m a shogun fan John, but you’re getting ahead of yourself here! Yes he KO’d Chuck, but in the fight I was watching, Chuck tagged him and had him moving backward a few times as well as took shogun down. Lets be real, He definitely KO’d Chuck, we didn’t see enough to make us say he’s 100% back to form. Just my opinion and keeping it real for you!
by kevin on Apr 20, 2009 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Silva worked his gameplan and he punished Leites throughout. Its not his fault that Leites did not want to stand up.
Shogun looked good. Let’s hope he stays that way.
Chuck should stick around. He lost to a young lion in Shogun. No shame in that. I would worry about Chuck if he started to lose to some cans.
by OJR on Apr 20, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I kinda agree OJR but I would hate for Chuck to take a step down in comp. Division seems too stacked for him right now. I would hate to see him fight someone like Schaefer
by McArthur on Apr 20, 2009 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
OJR and Mcarthur, it’s 100% a financial thing! Chuck is one of the highest paid guys in the UFC and gets a ppv%! Unless he takes an enormous pay cut to fight cans, he’s done! Dana doesn’t want to slap his best friend in the face with a 200k a fight plus pay cut and no back end cut, and then feed him cans!
by kevin on Apr 20, 2009 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s what I’d like to avoid seeing OJR. Hell everyone in the division is younger than Chuck. Trying to evolve your game at 39? It’s a little late. That’s the problem with letting Chuck stick around to fight the b level fighters like Hamill, Vera and Thiago Silva- I don’t want to see him get KO’d by them. I don’t want him around painfully trying to stay relevant. Now is not too late and is a good time to go.

i will never be a shogun nuthugger unless he is fighting rashad then i will call him the greatest fighter ever right up until he kills rashad then he sucks again..
he looked gassed after his entrance breathing through his mouth, he was gassed when he knocked chuck out and through a dangerous haymaker.. if he fought machida like that he would be down on the canvas..
by randy murders on Apr 20, 2009 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kevin is right. Its a financial and a personal choice that he is making for Chuck. Look how people have gone from Legend to chump by continuing to fight past thier prime. It will be a hard pill for Chuck to swallow but he will have a lot of other avenues to pursue in this sport anyway.
by Ca$z on Apr 20, 2009 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Shogun did beat Chuck, I hated every second of it.
So I was wrong, but we still didn’t get a clear picture if his cardio got better. SHogun ate a few good ones from Chuck – the fight did seem pretty even up until Chuck got tapped on the chin and colapsed to the canvas.
Oh well, I still hate Shogun.
by UFC Champ on Apr 20, 2009 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
so Kevin: Shogunj didnt look good because he was moving backwards and got tagged a couple times against a legend? Who ever fighst without backing up and getting tagged a few times?
Regardless of us only seeing about 5 minutes worth of action by shogun, he looked way better then he has ever looked in the Octagon. Just his movement, and the way he was commiting to his kicks…tell me that he is getting comfortable on his knee. Being comfortable on his knee means that he is able to push himself harder in training which will equate to continued improvement in his cardio. Remember, Shogun skills were NEVER the question. He is EASILY one of the most skilled and well rounded fighter in the Light Heavyweight division. His recent problems are stricktly cardio based, which are understandable considering the 2 knee injuries/surgeries, long lay off….He had tremendous amount of pressure on him saturday against Chuck…I almiost crapped my pants when I saw how nervous he was and how focused chuck was during their enterances….
In closing, The important things I took from his performance are, his knee looks good. He trusts its! Its also important to notice that he had his back up against the wall, in a really nerve wrecking situation, and the young kid rose to the occasion.
I am ready for him to take a next step up in competition, so that he can eventually take back his throne as the King of the light heavyweight division. Shogun will be champion in 2010!

by RoB on Apr 20, 2009 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not a Shogun hater and would love to see him exert himself in the 205 division. Just like most people, I thought he was going to be the next big thing when he was fighting for pride. I think the jury is still out on Shogun. He has had some injuries and has not looked great since coming to the ufc. His victories over Coleman and Chuck have done little to convince me that he can be an elite fighter in the ufc. I hope Shogun can string together a few more victories and show he belongs in the upper class of the division.

1. Dana owes me a main event
2. Stout is my Ontario homie but IMO Wiman was robbed
3. Shogun, I told ya BNF….again

5. Not a big Chuck fan and never have been, but thanks for the

I won a nice amount of money on that fight. I used to like the Crow back in the day, but I knew that version of the crow wasnt going to show up. IMO Herman and Banha were the easiest bets of the event!
This was a very easy event to bet on! I went 5 for 5 on my bets. I actually did lose a bet. I bet $10 bucks on Leites in case he upset Silva. woulud have won me $70. I was better off just throwing that $10 bucks on Silva to win $2…hahahaha.. I didnt think THales would win the fight, I just bet it because of the crazy odds….so I am not really counting that bet as a lost!

Its a good fight John. Cane is a beast and will give some people a rude awakening but I don’t think anyone will be taking him lightly now considering his resume so far in the UFC.
I was just happy to see Cantwell take all of what Cane could offer and still be on his feet when a lot of people were on here saying he was gonna get massacred. He is a tough, young kid who will learn a lot from this fight and come back stronger for the next one I’m sure of it.

somewhere in the ufc contract there should be a rule that you can’t show up with hair that you always gotta adjust (wiman!!) and your beard does not cushion the punch ahahaha..

I think if Chuck wants another fight he should have one! Like Hatton said “there is no ay im going out on a loss” so Chuck should have a final fight in his home town against a lesser opponent. the crowd was amazing with Chuck!

first time on all weekend! Forget the greasing, that was stupid on Andersons part, that looked very obvious, the fight sucked, Chuck i HOPE we havent seen you for the last time in the OCtagon, the crows was cray,……………..but the most important part……………….SHOGUN IS BACK MOFOS! NOW ALL YOU BANDWAGONERS CAN COME BACK, its ok, you can come back and support hi mafter all of you though he was gonna get koed and his career was over!!! MTF WAR SHOGUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHOGUN fought the slowest and oldest CHUCK I have ever seen. Sure hope he can compete with the younger and stronger 205 division. Forrest will bully him again. Sugar will punch him the f*** out. Lyoto and Rampage will destroy Shogun. Hes back but will never hold the belt period. I hope Dana finds another old man for SHOGUN to beat up. So all these SHOGUN nuthuggers have something to cheer about.

Although we didn’t get to see the fight go past the 1st I would assume it is pretty safe to say Shogun is back…
His footwork, fluidity of attack, upper body movement, and as John mentioned his committment to his leg kicks at full power are all indicators… not only that but he still looked completely fresh at the end…
F the fairweather fans…
Chuck fans are already changing their tune from “KO guaranteed for Chuck to Chuck is old and washed up”… This is the same Chuck Rashad beat to get in to title contention as well as Jardine…
Oh yeah..
WAR RUA!!!

its not the same Chuck….his chin has taken to much damage over the years and especially after that KO loss to Rashad.

They need to let the ref deduct purse money when we get a snoozefest like Silva/Leites. Then, instead of showboating and only fighting on his feet, Silva will have to get on the mat. Or Leites would have to engage on the feet.
And since it’s MMA, why stand them up everytime when one is on his feet, one on the mat? It’s like saying boxing/striking is more important in MMA. Why not, maybe after standing them up and getting no action, then next time one is on the mat, the other standing they don’t say, “OK Silva, this is boring on the feet, get down here in his guard. And Leites, if you simply jump onto your back again, the next start is Silva in side mount.”
Or, if on the feet no one connects, or only connects twice like all of round one, don’t they do like they would on a long boring clinch say “OK, time to make this fight move along, Silva, on your back, Leites, on top, next time we switch.”

if you want to get your opponent onto the floor to sub them, you have to take them down to the floor to get them there,
leites did not do this. he tried it once, didnt do very well, so just flopped onto the floor trying to intice silva.
once might have been fine, but no more.
Leites flopping on the mat unprovoked is completely different from silva not intentionally jumping on him.

I hope you are joking about those rules, that would make it where a BJJ guy would just run ,so they can be put on the ground, plus what is stopping the fighter from just standing up once the ref starts them again. It is bjj fighter’s job to get them on the ground, you can not reward someone for being one dimentional
by scott on Apr 20, 2009 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
also the reason they stand them up is not to say boxing is more important, but because all fights originally start standing, how many fight have you been in where you were both laying on the ground when the fight broke out

Did anderson have a bottle of oil then hide it when the commission came running up to address it? No
by Lyquid on Apr 20, 2009 12:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
but he sure did rub vasoline all over his arms and chest in front of everybody, and they gave GSP crap for his corner accidently getting it on him, nothing was said to Anderson when he did it himself

Poor Thales, Dana just walked right by him after he shook Shogun and Ninjas hand. Thales had to get up and tap him on his shoulder so he can ackowledge him. Im sure Dana didnt do it on purpose, but i guess Thales is just not a fighter that pops out at Dana, that really sucked. Im sure people caught that.
